🔴LIVE 🔴 Miami Marlins VS Atlanta Braves/August 07/ Envivo/MLB THE SHOW 25
show has an NL East matchup. It’s the Miami Marlins going up against the Atlanta Braves. And now, please welcome. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. [Music] So, almost ready to get underway. Today’s starting pitcher, Spencer Strider. and singing. We were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. Well, he’s been a real quality starter for his club. And coming into this one, what stands out for me is that right-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 on the year. It seems that they have a hard time picking up his release point and tracking the ball into the zone. So, we’ll see how right-handers do against him in this one. And there’s a strike. Good heater at 98. Strider out there on the mound for this one and he’s a guy who had a really impressive college career but needed Tommy John surgery while playing for Clemson. You know, Boo Strider spent time with a sports psychologist at Clemson while rehabbing from his surgery. They talked a lot about the concept of purpose and the importance of having a defined goal for everything you do. You know, it’s something Strider now preaches himself. And a swing and a line drive into a right field and out number one on the grab. And time now for the Marlins lineup. And so far this year, this has not been a very good offense. Well, in this day and age, if you can’t slug and get on base, that OPS has to be at a certain level. If you’re going to produce runs, give your pitchers an opportunity as they’re facing tough offenses as well. Now, Kyle Sters, Chris, he’s definitely going to finish the year with a new careerhigh in homers. We just don’t know how many he’s going to hit quite yet. And immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Comes up empty. One out. Base is empty. outside low and that is ball one. See if he can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading the count one two. Don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you get hurt and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Next one misses. And that’s ball three. [Laughter] And that one hammered. That’s back there. That’s not coming back. That’ll fire up the dugout. His 26th of the year. Just like that, they move in front. It’s one- nothing. He absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer. And you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat. He’s that confident. He’s so good at getting his arms extended and that’s exactly what he did right there. You don’t typically want to pull a pitch in that part of the plate, but he doesn’t allow his wrist to roll over. Stays through the ball, gets the loft, and gets the home run. Augustine Ramirez stands in now and watches strike one. Part of the order coming through now and with one home run already in this inning, they’re definitely looking to do some more damage. Next offering is in for a strike. No balls. Two strikes. Swings and misses. Struck him out. He’s really good hitting the baseball the other way. So, credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch. Clearly, he had him fooled. Two out, space is empty. Now, a chance for Liam Hicks. Swing and a miss as he was late that time. No ball, one strike. Two out, space is empty. And that’s off the inside edge. One and one. Breaking ball. Misses down and away. Strider deals. Popped up to the left into foul ground. Catcher tosses the mask, settles under it, has room, and he makes the catch. One scores in the inning coming on this solo home run. It’s now one- nothing. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. back at Truis Park and today’s starting pitcher, Ronnie Enriquez. Tell us about him in that sub3 ERA. Singy. Well, anytime you can keep your ERA under three, you’re doing a lot of things right and you’re putting your team in a position to win a lot of ball games as well. And he’s doing tremendous out there on the mound. Every time he gets the ball, you expect him to go out there and dominate. And that’s what he’s been to this point. We’ll see how he is today. Bottom of the first and stepping in is the speedy Eli White. And that drops in for a strike. 01. [Music] You won. Ball one there. One ball, one strike. [Applause] Next offering in there for a strike. It’s a ball in two strikes. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. One down. You know, Boo, you often think of sliders more for that horizontal movement, but most of the good ones have both vertical depth and that horizontal movement. And that’s what we saw right there. Good drop on the break and got him to swing over the top. Azie Alb’s up to the plate. Swing and a miss. Strike one. No balls. One strike. Had a strike in there. stays alive. [Music] Let’s go. Outside low and a count. One and two. That one ripped. This one’s got a chance. And that one hops the wall. and he’ll reach second with one away. Everything came together for him. This was a really nice swing. Didn’t quite get enough behind it to get it out of here, but once it got over his head in left field, it was extra bases all the way. One out, runner at second. Matt Olsen next up for the Braves. ball here. Rolls foul [Music] man at second. Ah, ground ball and that’s through the infield headed for the plate now. A long throw home. It’s offline. The run comes in. It’s 1-1. Well, we’re starting over again. All tied up. Just kept it simple. Played Pepper with the middle of the infield and took it back where it came from. And there’s just no one there to knock it down. One down. Marcelo Zuna next up for the Braves. [Applause] just missed. Boo. The runner at first needs to be careful right here. He’s dealing with a pickoff artist on the mound. And that one is downstairs. Two and 0. Last two pitches have been down in the zone. pitcher clearly trying to get that ground ball double play, but in this count he’s going to have to give in, elevate his pitches, and get back into this at bat. And a big swing and a miss. 2-1. [Music] Here’s the pitch to Ozuna. Ball three. Squirts away a little bit. [Applause] and ball four, two aboard. His ability to draw walks has been something that’s been part of his career since day one. Two on, one out. So, here’s Murphy now. He’s been really clutch with runners in scoring position this season. So they’ll have to be extra careful in this matchup. Drops into the glove and there’s two away. Batting six. Here’s Brian Snickers line up for the Braves. This an offense Chris is having a hard time scoring runs right now. Yeah, sometimes things just aren’t going to click. And unfortunately what happens is players press, they try to do a little bit more and they get out of their game. You’ve got to let the game come to you. If you chase it, it’s going to run from you. So, this is a team that just needs to calm down, relax, and understand that they’re going to come out of this. [Applause] Jurgson Proar up to bat next. Lays off for a ball. That one in there across the letters. It’s great to get on the board in the first frame of the ball game, but here’s an opportunity for them to really open things up with a couple of runners on. Let’s see if they can cash in on the ground to short. Lopez sends it across the first. That ends the inning and they limit the damage, but the RBI single pushes across a run. All even at one a piece. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. And welcome back to the ballpark. Second inning set to go. And now for the Marlins, Otto Lopez. [Music] Strider is a guy known for his velocity. He can bring it. But that wasn’t always the case. Coming back from an injury in college, Strider was throwing 94 to 96 mph. Boo when the Braves drafted him. Now he lights up the radar gun with tripledigit speeds. Late swing fouled. ball line drive caught. Man, that’s one of those at bats where you have to remind yourself it’s about the process. He did everything right right there. Nothing to show for it, but in your mind, you have to convince yourself that it was a very good at bat. [Applause] Marcy starting as the designated hitter, batting sixth in today’s lineup. And they went out and made a trade for him last season. Up and in. And one and one. Kenny Jansen doing home plate duties in this one. Not a huge strike zone from Jansen, so he can’t really be called a pitcher umpire, but he does like the bottom part of the strike zone. We may see some pitchers steal a few strikes down there, especially the ones right below the knees. That’s if their catcher can present it properly. What about an umpire’s height? How much of a role does that play in your experience and what the strike zone is like? Yeah, I think it pushes the strike zone up a little bit, which you know, as a former hitter, you like that. You wanted the ball up. You didn’t want to have to deal with stuff down in the zone consistently. Hernandez. Two down, base is empty. And up next for Miami, Ariberto Hernandez. [Applause] As the game has moved along, we see more and more information supplied by teams about the umpires. I’ve been in clubous where they have pictures of all four guys, nicknames, hometowns, and as well hobbies listed just so you can kind of small talk the umpire a little bit. That’s great. A change up missing. And it’s two and one. Tied up here in the early going. That clips the corner. Swings through it and that’s a strikeout. And the Marlins down quietly. Score remains deadlocked at one. ready to go for the last half of the inning. Now in for the Braves, Michael Harris II. This is a guy who’s in the lineup first and foremost because of what he contributes defensively, Chris. And when you talk about preventing runs from being scored, this guy is a big contributor. Next offering is fouled back. That misses and the count is one and two. I was always told it’s hard to take you off the field when you play really good defense, especially at a premier position. And that’s what he does. And a pinch. The hitting’s going to come around. He’s going to figure it out. But right now, his big asset is the way he plays the game on defense. [Music] Y’all, this is a good time to step out of the box, take a deep breath, reset. Couple of change ups. Probably won’t see another one here. Ground ball up the middle, a dive, nice stop, throws from his knees, and very nicely done for the out. Look at the commitment to make the play down on the ground from the knees. That’s not just arm strength, guys. That’s core strength as well. Look at that rocket across the diamond. Outstanding job. So, digging in, Nacho Alvarez Jr. [Applause] Right through there for a strike and there’s a ball. [Applause] Next offering in there for a strike and that is strike two. Got him looking. And there’s two away. Nick Allen next up for the Braves. And that drops in for a strike. Right side. Edwards on to first. Three up, three down. Inning over. And the Braves go down quietly. Score remains tied 1-1. All set for the start of the inning. And at the plate for Miami, Troy Johnston. Strider back to work. There’s a strike. 01 on the corner for a strike. Back door him with the breaking ball. just got the corner. There’s nothing you can really do with that and that skips in the dirt. 02 count. You got the opportunity to expand the zone. Could get the chase there. Let’s see what he comes back with next. One and two now. Fans another. And that’s three straight strikeouts. Wow. That’s a tough call for the hitter, but the pitcher will take that all day long. Not quite in the strike zone, but he found a spot that the umpire is going to, at least for now, allow him to get that call. So, hitters are going to have to make an adjustment, but pitchers are going to learn from those things and really try to exploit him if they can. Graham Paulie the next up for the Marlins. Foul ball there. swings through that one for strike two. Big time jam right there. I hate it as a hitter, but standing in center field, you can’t help but chuckle a little bit. inside. One and two to count. [Music] Oh, and he hit him. He had two strikes on him and he hit him. Now it’s the Marlins leadoff hitter, Xavier Edwards. He’s 0 for one. Bunting for a hit. Alb’s to first and he beats it. Everyone’s safe. Well, Singy, that was really nice looking. Able to get it down and in a good spot. And he makes it look easy. Bat angle was perfect. Barrel stayed above the hands. Can almost walk to first. Kyle Sters the next up for the Marlins. He’s already homerred in this game and that is out of play. The last thing he wants is to hit the ball on the ground, but I wouldn’t expect many pitches up in the zone. They’ll be pitching for a double play in this spot. Sway and a miss. That is strike two. Another 02 count right here. Pitcher just in the driver’s seat. He can go anywhere he wants to go right here. Just misses there. Man, oh man. I don’t know how you take that pitch. That’s as close as it gets on the ground. Two ball over to Alb on to Olsen. That’s two. Poetry in motion. There’s the second baseman. Turns the double play. Nice throw to first. And that’s the way to end the inning. Back here in Atlanta as we go to the last of the third and now here’s a speed threat outfielder Eli White and that’s in there for a strike. Little slider that finds Lamar. Man, I mean nice job just presenting it to be better than it actually was. Line drive base hit. Just kind of sliced that one into center. nice swing to drive that pitch up the middle. Could have easily bit out in front on the off speed and pulled off of it, but he was looking to use the big part of the field and he executed his plan perfectly. And now a chance to maybe get creative on offense with good speed on first. And here comes Azie Alb’s to the dish right through there for a strike. No balls, one strike. [Music] Y1 runner on the go. Pitch is low. Safe at second and he easily steals the bag and the go-ahead run is now in scoring position. Well, we all know this team is struggling right now and sometimes you just got to do something different to generate some offense. A little more aggressive right there to put the pressure on the opponent. We’ll see if it pays off on the scoreboard for this team. Man at second. That one pulled foul. [Applause] Here’s a one two. And that’s in the dirt. Two balls, two strikes. [Applause] And a swing and a miss. And he’s registered three Ks in this one. Here’s Matt Olsen. Singled and drove in a run his first time through. It’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position. Some guys just take it to another level. For him right now at the plate, it’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed. [Applause] at 96. That pitch is in for a strike. Enriquez checks the runner and he’s back in easily. [Applause] That one down the line. Hicks and he takes it himself for the out. Now batting hitter Marcel. Here comes Ozuna up to the plate. Walked his first time. And that’s in for a strike. White at third with two away. [Music] On the ground to third and that’s a fair ball. The run scores from third and it’s an RBI single and a 2-1 ball game now and he’ll make it to second base with two gone. Puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI. Wasn’t able to elevate that one, but he sure hit it hard enough to get through the infield. There’s not a whole lot of time for the defenders to react and try to make a play when it’s ripped like that. Here’s Shawn Murphy. Fly to right his first time on a line. Base hit coming home. He’ll score. It’s an RBI single and they take a two-run lead. He was all over that one. Just a very nice approach and swing right there to use the big part of the field. Everything was on time. He stayed balanced through the entire swing and just launched that one into center. We’re under at first with two away. And next for Atlanta, Jurgson Proar and misses inside. And that’s in there for a strike. And now it’s even action in the pen down there. Valente Beayoo up and loosening in the pen. Number 66 warming up as well. So a foul ball makes it one and two. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. And a swing and a miss. Down on strikes. He’s notched four strikeouts now. Two runs, three hits, no errors, and one left. On to inning number four. It’s the Braves three and the Marlins one. And we’re back. And now the catcher comes up to hit. Augustine Ramirez. He’s got pop, which is a little sneaky because he’s so comfortable with taking his base hits to the opposite field, but he can jump you if you make a mistake. Ripped, but it curls foul. You know, these Marlins do a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of them. He’s only giving up one run, but the starter pitch count is starting to get up there, and that might be the best news yet for this offense. And that one is lifted in the air. White makes the grab. One up, one down. You know, sometimes all it takes is getting to the next arm before an offense does any damage. And that might be the case today. And here’s the first baseman, Liam Hicks. He’s 0 for one. Give it up. Well, the offense has gotten going and a pitcher wants to go out there, have a real quick inning, get those guys back into the dugout so those bats can stay hot. He swings and fouls one off. And look out, that one gets him. the second man he’s plunked in this one. And now for the Marlins, Otto Lopez 0 for one so far. This one in the air. Two away. Now batting number three. Next is the designated hitter, Jacob Marcy. Struck out swinging his first time. Well, the bright side is that that will help the on base percentage a little bit. And that’s a category no batter can ignore these days. OBP, OPS. Well, maybe that’ll ease the pain just a little bit. Hernandez the next to hit takes high for ball one. Hicks at second. Marcy at first. Two out of the inning. This one belted deep left field on its way. Gone. His seventh home run of the season and they lead it. It’s 43. Boog. His plan was to hit the ball hard and he was going to figure out the rest later. You can’t argue with those results. A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge, not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. And up next for Miami, Troy Johnston. Swing and a miss and it’s 0 and one. 01. [Applause] That one pushed to the left and fouled. [Music] Two down. Nobody on up and in. And a count one and two. That’s a really good job of laying off the O2 high fast ball is going to make that pitcher really have to respect this hitter even though he’s behind in the count. Gets a piece and stays alive. Breaking ball in there. Got him looking. He picks up his fifth strike out on the hill, but the Marlins get three on the homer. It’s now a 43 ball game. Back at Truest Park, bottom four. Here’s the center fielder, Michael Harris II. Boo. This guy’s just a tremendously talented center fielder. Gold glove caliber type out there. Offensively, he can do some things, but you know, also has some streakiness as well. I think the key just trying to find a way for him to be consistent day in and day out. you know, he saves runs in the outfield. So, that’s going to buy him more time to work things out at the dish and he can’t come up with it. Gets off a throw and they get it. The misplay made it a bit messy, but they clean things up for the out. Batting number 67. Now, the third baseman, Nacho Alvarez Jr. struck out looking his first time. Now a screamer into the outfield. Sters makes the grab and there’s two gone. Now batting the shorts stop. Nick Allen. Nick Allen digs in now. Grounded out. His first time. This is important. If he can go one, two, three here will be a very positive sign for him and for his team. Next offering is in for a strike. Two pretty nasty sliders to get this hitter in an O2 count. If you’re up there at the plate, you got to look up in the zone and spit on anything that’s down. Got him. And it’s a three up, three down inning. Braves are set down. One, two, three. Still down a run. It’s 4-3. And welcome back to the ballpark. Here’s the third baseman, Graham Paulie. Paulie, 24 years old. He’s playing today in his home state of Georgia. Check Swain called strike. That’s strike one. The Braves bullpen has some activity. Pierce Johnson getting ready to come in for manager Brian Snicker. Lee also throwing fouled off. He was late. [Applause] missed with a change up. Now one and two. Got him swinging. So he picks up his sixth strike out of the ball game. That slider wasn’t even close to the strike zone and he got him to chase. That’s just a bad approach right there. Either he was looking for something else and got completely fooled or he was sitting all over the slider and just couldn’t resist the temptation. But man, really expanded right there and didn’t have a chance of making contact with that pitch. Back to the top of the lineup. Xavier Edwards the next up for the Marlins. And a first pitch fastball is in for a strike. One strike. right through there for a strike. Goodness. I think he just took the best pitch he’s going to see in this at bat. You don’t get many like that in that location. I don’t know if you take that pitch against any pitcher out there on the mound. One down, base is empty and down on strikes. Make it seven strikeouts for him. So, two down now. And here is Kyle Stard. He’s already homered here in this one. Fast ball in for a strike. 0 and one. And a curve is down and in. So a foul ball makes it one and two. Swung on. Belted. That one is back and out of here. [Music] Another homer. His second home run of the game. And they add on. It’s 53. Just an excellent swing all the way around and it had that sound coming off the bat that gets everyone’s attention. Got a pitch to drive short to the baseball. Squared it up and the backspin carried it out of here. Ryan Snicker out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Spencer Strider out of the game and it’s going to be a start that he’d like to get a redo on. Not his best. Back with a new arm in a minute. Now pitching. Pierce Johnson will come in. He’s pitching on two days rest. Pierce Johnson. And here’s the catcher, Augustinine Ramirez. Go for two in this one. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. [Applause] And there’s a foul ball. [Applause] Swing and a chopper out to short. Throw on to Olsen and that’ll do it. But the solo shot stretches their lead even further. It’s now 53. You’re dialed into the show. back now to start the bottom of the fifth. The taking over on the mound, Jansen Junk. Definitely a guy that pounds the strike zone, makes hitters earn their way on base, and rarely gets in trouble because of free passes. Eli White getting ready to hit. One for two, Eli White. swings through that one. When you throw a fast ball by a guy like that, I imagine it’s got to feel incredible. Look for him to throw it again at some point. Swing and a miss. And it’s 0 and two. I think he was sitting off speed there. Going to count one and two. Well, that’s kind of what you expect in an 02 count. Excellent job of the hitter to have the plate disciplined to lay off of that pitch. And a swing and a miss. Now one away. And Chris, that’s a way to neutralize his feed by keeping him off base. And the defense breathes a sigh of relief because he puts pressure on everyone if he can put the ball in play. But that’s how you do it. Keep him off balance. Get him out of there and deal with the next guy. Here is Aussie Alb’s up to hit. delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. No balls, one strike. There’s a strike. Well, that’s really the money spot down and away. If you can locate that consistently, it’s going to be real tough for hitters to square that up. That’s what you love to see relievers do coming out of that bullpen. Pitch in the dirt and that’s ball one. O2 fast ball way out of the zone. I think he’s trying to speed him up. Got to stay back. Off speed’s probably coming. The one two two [Applause] line drive to short and caught. It’s never fun going back to the dugout after hitting a line drive that finds a glove. But you will get some high fives. You know, when you make great contact, you feel like you’ve done everything right. But in this game of baseball, not everything is in your control. Olsson in the box again takes a strike. That’s outside and the count is one and one. Two down, nobody on. Last half of inning number five up the middle. Oh, great stop from his knees. The throw and they get the out. This guy’s anticipation is off the charts. Don’t see many shorts stops better than that. Great job to complete the play and end the inning. All right, we go to the top half of inning number six. Here’s the cleanup hitter for Miami, Liam Hicks. Come on, Braves. That one catches the zone. That’s strike one. Johnson fills up the zone, forces contact. So, not a huge strikeout guy, but he’s going to make the hitters beat him. doesn’t issue a lot of walks. So, the pressure is really on the batter to make something happen. And although you like the fact that guy throws strikes, guy gets contact and not always great contact, the fact that when you have runners on, if that ball’s in play, there’s still a good chance that a run gets pushed across whether it’s earned or not. Command in the zone is such a crucial part of it, right? You know, it’s not just throwing strikes, but it’s throwing quality strikes and having quality misses as well. What’s a quality miss? Missing just off the plate rather than over the plate. And the batter will be the shortstop. Otto Lopez. Out to center. Harris after it. And there are two down. now batting number three. Two outs, space is empty. And now the DH Jacob Marcy. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Braves. Two outs. And that’s in the dirt and it’s one and one. Fast ball is outside. Swing and a miss. Two ball. Two strike. [Applause] That’s too low. And it’s three and two. Swings and he pops it up near the pitcher mouth. And that is that and one, two, three go the Marlins and it remains 53. back here in Atlanta. Bottom of the six. Marcelo Zuna coming up to hit. Marcela jump back to work. Check swing. No appeal. Really close pitch down around the knees there. And you could see him asking where it missed. probably doesn’t agree, but it appears he’s ready to move on to the next pitch. The one and that gets the top of the zone for a strike. Activity in the bullpen. Tyler Phillips getting ready to go. Gibson getting cranked up as well. [Applause] On the ground to third. leadoff man retired in the six. That’s what a good sinker is designed to do. Get a guy to roll over a little bit, hit the ball on the ground, kill some worms while you’re at it. Now at the plate, Shawn Murphy right through there for a strike. The Fish leading by two here in the bottom of the sixth. hammers that one deep left field and forget it. That should put a jolt into this home crowd. It’s 54. He just sparked this home crowd in a big way. What a swing. [Applause] He’s so good at getting his arms extended and that’s exactly what he did right there. You don’t typically want to pull a pitch in that part of the plate, but he doesn’t allow his wrist to roll over. Stays through the ball, gets the law, and gets the home run. Here’s Profar. [Applause] Misses just off the outside edge. I think that was a strike. One down. Base is empty. Slap the other way. Foul. [Music] [Music] And that one missing inside. A sharp slider. And that’s downstairs and outside. [Applause] popped in the air left field. That one gets down for a hit. That’s a ball that a lot of times you’ll see the shorts stop or left fielder be able to get to if it hangs up in the air long enough. But right there, it just died and found a way to drop in on the green stuff. But base hit man at first with one gone. And now the center fielder Michael Harris II. And there’s the strike [Music] [Applause] and that gets the inside corner for a strike. Profar the base runner at first with one out. One, two, in the dirt, but kept close. And the runner stays where he is. [Music] In the air, left field. Hernandez has a beat on it. He’s got it. And there’s two away. Now batting number 67, Nacho Alvarez Jr. Next up for the Braves. [Applause] That catches the corner. Swinging a ground ball and it goes just foul. That’s a ball. [Applause] This one in the air. Lopez. And that is that long ball draws the Braves closer. It’s now a five4 ball game. Back after this on the show. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the M, Dylan Lee, and he’s been racking up strikeouts at a high rate this year. Typically at least one in innings, so he’ll be tough to get to. [Applause] at the plate. Ariberto Hernandez. Hernandez. And that’s in there at the knees. Movement in the Atlanta bullpen. Aaron Bummer getting ready to come in for manager Brian Snicker. Hernandez getting loose as well. Come on y’all. Let’s go. Comes up empty. That’s strike two. Well, on paper, it’s favorable to have a fairly quick inning here with two of the three hitters he’s set to face batting from the left side. Same side he throws from. Next pitch is downstairs. [Applause] And a swing and a miss. One away. finished him off by blowing it by him up high, but they did a really nice job of setting that pitch up. The plan of attack early on was to keep everything down around the knees. So, that was a good call to change his eye level and run it by him for the K. Troy Johnston the next up for the Marlins who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. First pitch not close. and another ball. Struggled a little bit in this one. Couple of strikeouts earlier, but doing a much better job in this at bat to get ahead and find a good hitters count at 2 and 0. Good hitters count the 200. Tap foul at the plate. Way out front for strike two. Going to really need to hang in there with that front side against this left-handed breaking ball. Foul ball. Another 2-2 upcoming strike three and that’s two in a row. Well, tough night at the dish. Punching out for the third time right there. He just hasn’t looked very comfortable at the plate. A little unsure of his timing right now. Not picking up the spin and location of these pitches. He’ll have some adjustments to make. And at the plate for Miami, Graham Paulie. That’s a little bit low. Fast for a strike. That clips the corner. Was good pitch there. Billy had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, he had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Foul ball still a one and two count. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Now a fly ball to right center. Harris has a beat on it. And that is that. So they make short work of him there midway in inning number seven. And it’s time to stretch. Marlins five and the Braves four. Now pitching for we’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Tyler Phillips hasn’t pitched in the last three days. And now the shorts stop Nick Allen. The short stop Nick Allen. Close but called a ball. Ball one. Homeplayed umpires trying to tighten things up a little bit. The shorts stop takes the ball. Last couple of pitches breaking balls away. I think he’s going to have to come firm inside to be able to open up that location if he wants to go back there later in this count. Looking to get the tying run on base. Here’s a rocket to right field. puts it away for the out. Yeah, off the bat it looked like they might get that tying run on base, maybe even extra bases. No dice, though. A little unlucky on that one. Now it’s the right fielder, Eli White. One for three. Right through there for a strike. Trying to keep good speed off the bases. Pitch is in there and it’s nothing and two. Well, he didn’t like those first two pitches. Now in an 02 hole. He’s going to have to battle. Hope he gets a mistake. Owen Chu now. Check swing and that’s a ball trying to hold a one-run lead here in the bottom of the seventh. Highfly ball out to left field. Hernandez has this one sized up and there’s two away. Now batting second base Azie. So up next, Azie Alby’s. The outfield shifted pretty heavily towards right field. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Well, don’t expect too many more high fast balls. This is a good sinker ball pitcher and sometimes they can make mistakes trying to pitch up in the zone. Look for him to stay down around the knees to be effective. [Applause] the rope into right and that should be extra bases. Makes the turn and heads for second. And the double puts the tying run in scoring position with two away. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. [Applause] So the tying run in scoring position now. And now Matt Olsen up to hit. First pitch misses. One ball. No strike. [Applause] Strike one. Let’s see if he’s willing to use the whole field right here. Definitely pounding him away. Ruer at second. Two down. [Applause] That one is absolutely belted and out of here. And they add a couple more. It’s 65. Well, that swing changes things. Yes, it does. They were in striking distance. They found a way to fight back big time. Really great job of anticipation there. He knows he throws the sinker. That one down in the zone. You’re trying to beat it to the spot it’s getting to. Well, he won. Now the Marlins manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen. Tyler Phillips won’t go any further tonight and he leaves in a one-run game. New pitcher coming on. We’ll be back in a minute. [Applause] Pitching change here. Anthony Bender just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. There we go. Here’s Marcelo Zuna, the outfield playing him to pull with the center fielder position in that left center field gap. Started to swing, held up. Two down, nobody on. And it’s even up to Ozuna. One ball, one strike. Just missed. [Music] That one finds the zone and it’s two and two. [Music] fouled off and they’ll do it again. Base hit and that extends the inning. Now batting catcher Shawn Murphy [Applause] strike one to the catcher. Next offering is in for a strike. Perhaps not quite ready to hit. First two pitches by him for a couple of strikes. Now back is against the walls. Going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly. That one misses and the count one and two. Bzuna off of first with two away. Now this one gets away from the catcher. No advance though. [Applause] battling here as he fouls it away. [Applause] And down on strikes he goes. That is the inning. Braves pick up two on the long ball. It’s tightened up a bit at 65 now. Welcome back and a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Aaron Bummer coming on to face a righty here and he’s been fantastic against him this year. His numbers in those matchups are very good. Now it’s the second baseman Xavier Edwards. Three pitch strikeout last time up. Got to put up more of a fight in this one. [Applause] Off the mark there and it’s one and0. Movement in the bullpen. Rice Glacius getting ready to come in for manager Brian Snicker. Little bit low. [Music] And a foul ball makes the count. Two and one. And that one is inside. Kyle Sters in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. And that one fouled off. [Applause] [Music] on it. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. And there’s one away. Now batting the center fielder, Kyle Sters. So digging in, Kyle Sters. He’s already homerred twice. The last one back in the fifth. Just seems like he can’t miss right now. Seeing the baseball as well as anyone on the field. Now I know the odds are against him, but who’s going to bet against this guy right now? headed down the line and that will drop foul [Applause] towards first. Olsen takes it to the bag, steps on first and it’s out number two. Well, there’s a lot writing on that at bat right there. Nice job of the pitcher to bear down, make the pitch, get the ground ball. Excellent piece of work. Here’s the catch here to hit. Augustine Ramirez 0 for three. A fly out, a ground out, and a strike out. Swinging a foul straight back. Holding on to a one-run lead. And we’re in the top of the eighth. That one fouled off. Very solid inning on the mound so far here in the eighth. Holding on to this narrow lead. This is exactly what they were looking for. Bomber deals. Got him. And a nice inning of work there as he sets him down. One, two, three. Three up, three down for him there. Home half of inning number eight. Straight ahead. Braves six and the Marlins five. Now pitching back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. Cade Gibson. Pretty tight game, so they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. Here’s the switchitting left fielder, Juriken Pro. He’s been a great free agent side. ripped on a line. Johnston pulls it down and he makes the catch. And there’s one away. Sometimes you want to be aggressive early in the at bat. He was right there. Hard line out. First pitch of the inning, no reward, but hey, you got to keep swinging it. Gibson in his rookie season, 27 years old, and he was a 10th round pick in 2022. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Calvin Foscher getting loose out there. Base is empty, one away here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. That’s in there. One ball, one strike. [Music] Chopper right side, but it kicks foul. flew open a little bit with that front shoulder, but was able to slow his bat down just enough to make contact with that pitch. Keep the at bat alive. That one missed. [Applause] Had a swing and a miss. Beat him with a fast ball. came inside with that two- strike fast ball nicely and just bunched him up on the inside part of the plate. Couldn’t get around on it and catch it out front. Many times if you do, it’s a foul ball. And you know, a lot of pitchers, they really don’t like working inside with two strikes because they do not want to hit that batter. And when they’ve got him up against the ropes, got to figure out a way to put them away. Did a nice job right there. That pitch in for a strike and the count one and one. swing and a hard hit liner up the middle and a base hit. Joey gets on base and keeps it going. So now to the plate for Atlanta. Nick Allen in the air center field. Sters on the move, squeezes it, and that is that. So, no runs here on a base hit, no errors, and one left. Ninth inning coming up. Braves six and the Marlins five. Welcome back. And here comes the closer, Religius. Well, he’s the guy they hope to turn to out of the pin to lock down wins. So, this game has gone to plan more or less. Let’s see if he can wrap it up here. And now the first baseman, Liam Hicks. So important to stay within yourself, especially for this hitter. Not known to be a power guy or a home run hitter. He needs to set the table by getting on with a walk or a base hit. Ground ball right side. It squirts through and the tying run is on base. No, that at bat had a lot riding on it. Certainly a pivotal swing of the bat in this ball game. He kind of rolled over on this pitch a little bit, but he got enough behind it to shoot it through for a knock and he’ll take that anytime you can get him to find a hole. Otto Lopez the next up for the Marlins known for his late inning heroics. That to right. White makes the grab and there’s one down. Now back number three. He’s two outs away now. Here’s the Marlins DH. Jacob Marcy. [Applause] If you’re a base runner, you got to stay dialed in here. Look for anything in the dirt. Try your best to get in the scoring position. That’s in for a strike at 95. And it’s 0 and two. Fouled off the plate. They’ll do it again. [Applause] Foul ball still 0 and two. He’s mixing his pitches really well late on that fast ball after seeing the change up. See if he can elevate one. I think if he does, he’ll get the swing and miss. One-run game here in the top of the ninth. [Applause] Swing and a miss. Strike him out. And they’re down to their last out. And now for the Marlins, Ariberto Hernandez. [Applause] And that one hit to first. Steps on the bag himself. Ball game. Well, this was a tightly played game. Got a little of everything. Some timely hitting, runs on the board, key pitching and defense in certain spots. Definitely a fun one to watch. 65 the final here today. They hang on to win it by a run. For Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the show, I’m John Shami. We’ll see you soon. [Music]
