Mike Green, Young Pass Rushers Ball Out in Preseason Opener | Baltimore Ravens Final Drive
The Baltimore Ravens first preseason game of 2025 wasn’t just a win on the scoreboard. It was a showcase for the team’s young players. And a group that really stood out to me was the edge rushers. In Thursday night’s 24-6 victory over the Indianapolis Colts at Mnt Bank Stadium, David Ajabo, Ada Isaac, and rookie Mike Green all made their presence felt in the backfield. Ajabo set the tone early, coming unblocked off the edge and drilling Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson senior for a sack that did unfortunately knock Richardson out of the game with a finger injury. Then later, Isaac added a sack of his own, meeting Green in the backfield after the rookie forced QB Daniel Jones to step up in the pocket. After the game, head coach John Harbaugh praised the entire group for their energy and impact. I thought Mike Green was, you know, really, really active. And it wasn’t just Mike. I mean, Mike was he was physical and active, run and pass, but all those outside backers. I mean, David Ajabo played really well. Diesa played really well. All those guys did a real nice job. Mike Green, who I talked about earlier this week after his impressive performance in the joint practice against the Colts, wasted no time showing what he can do in game action. on two third and long situations. He dipped around the edge with impressive bend, forcing Richardson to step up on one play and then he helped set up Isaac Sack on another by grabbing Daniel Jones around the ankles. He ended the night logging 14 pass rush snaps on true dropbacks and had an eyepopping 50% win rate. The rookie said he felt Thursday’s performance was a natural carryover from his strong moments in that joint practice. I love those two-minute situations because you get to just go out there and play fast, be physical, fly around, and I think that’s one of my strong suits. And um I I I think just being being able to go out there and just compete against those guys. Uh I mean it was great. It was fun. Um I like fastpaced environments. So, um, being able to go out there in two-minute and these coaches got a, um, some some trust in me when it comes down to getting to the to the to the passers. Even though this group had a great night, they realized that the win doesn’t mean there isn’t work left to do. But after the game, Mike pointed out what he learned about his fellow pass rushers, which will hopefully lead to more production in the future. If you look at all their all their um production, sacks, TFLs, tackles, batted passes, everything. Um it it it’s it’s because of how relentless they are. Um sometimes their first moves don’t work, so they go to their second moves. They’re chasing they’re chasing the quarterback around. Um they’re being disruptive. They’re getting knocked back on on the offensive line and being able to shed off and make plays. And uh I I I think when you play relentlessly um it opens more doors to make plays because um you can mess up a play or whatever, but um if you’re going all out and you’re and you’re putting a lot of effort into it, the play can end up winding right back into your hands. Listen, I know it was just one preseason game, but for a Ravens defense that thrives on pressure and relentless edge play, last night’s flashes from Ajabo, Isaac, and Green offered an encouraging glimpse into the future. And a reminder that competition in this past rusher room is pushing everyone to another level. AR broke his pinky
All I can say is that we are going to have a lot of difficult decisions to make once we have to start trimming the roster down to 53.
D-line pressure has been a limiting factor for years. Hopefully these young guys step up & help the secondary.
