Memphis Grizzlies star Jaren Jackson Jr. is making a jersey change.

Jackson is changing switching from No. 13 to No. 8 after seven seasons in the NBA, he announced on Aug. 8.

It's rare that an NBA player of Jackson's status changes jersey number this far into a career while still playing for the same team. Former Los Angeles Laker star Kobe Bryant is the most notable example, changing from No. 8 to No. 24 after 10 NBA seasons.

In a reel shared on social media, Jackson referenced his father, Jaren Jackson Sr., who wore No. 8 during a stint of his NBA career with the Los Angeles Clippers.

"Change doesn't always come from something new. Sometimes it comes from remembering," Jaren Jackson Jr. said in a post shared on social media.

Jackson has worn No. 13 in each of first seven NBA seasons. He wore the No. 2 in college during one season at Michigan State. His father wore No. 2 with the San Antonio Spurs and Orlando Magic.

  1. Maybe since he changed his number to 8, he’d start averaging 8 rebounds instead of 5

  2. Aaron Gordon has changed his number *twice*.

    He wore 00 on Orlando.

He changed to 50 with Denver, because he has the most 50 point dunks ever, and got robbed twice.

Then he changed to 32 to honor his late brother.

    I respect each of these.

  3. “Jackson is changing switching from no. 13 to No. 8”Am I dumb or is the “changing”redundant here in that sentence??

  4. There’s too many Jackson’s in the NBA for the tweet to not include a first name

  5. There have been a lot more players than Kobe in recent years who have changed their numbers, including LeBron

  6. Sabonis changed his number last season and offered swaps for fans who had purchased his old jerseys. Hopefully JJJ follows suit.

  7. Fuck… I must be getting old. I feel like this cat has only been in the league 2 or 3 years.

He’s already heading into season 8?
