our starting lineups. A look at the matchups here and who we’ll see for our starting five for both teams. Now here’s Witcom. Here’s copper. And one thing that makes this game so fascinating is all the different styles you can incorporate. What do you think is the best for winning though, Brian? Well, you know me, I love to grind it out. Slower pace, that’s what wins come playoff time. Yeah, maybe like in the ‘ 90s, Brian. I prefer teams that pick up the pace, take a lot of threes, and can outrun you. It’s rebounded by Thomas. That’s a surprise. out of character for her to miss those when the D’s not right in her face. Goddess. Here’s Save faint in off the glass. Well, with her 6’4 leg, Savi can gobble up. Also has the energy to get that rebound and go up with now. Here’s Clark pass to Mitchell. Here’s the teardrop and it’s good. Two points. Copper with the ball. Sodly. The screen from outside the arc is holding by Ali Boston. And it’s the fever ball. And in the first, a little over a minute and a half in, here’s Clark. scores off the crossover. Showing a lot of quickness right there. Tough to keep up with. Now here’s Whitcom. She’s covered by Clark. Pass to Whitcom. Now Goddess down to five on the shot clock and it’s Thomas missing. That’s the kind of D that’s needed when she’s got the ball near the hoop. They were all over her. Now here’s Clark. Quickcom defending. Austin sets a screen. Clark outside. Drills it from outside. Her ability is matched only by her energy, guys. She’s usually in the middle of everything for them. Pass to goddess Woodcom up top. They need this. It’s good from long range. The rapid fire threes coming from everywhere. I wasn’t sure they should try to get the three right back like that, but hey, it worked out for them. And you look at the career of Kalia Copper, she really took advantage of that 2020 season. Yeah, that was a wubble years. Sean and Braden see a lot of players opted out, but Copper, she opted in. She had by far her best season. And in the three years since, she’s been an allstar three times. And oh, by the way, finals MVP with the sky, too. Now, here’s Whitcom. Back to Copper has to god from beyond the ark. The fever pulling in. And we’re approaching about 3 and 1/2 minutes played in this first quarter. And here is Clark. She has five. The basket drops and she gets fouled on the shot. One free throw coming up for her. Well, the last title for the Mercury came back in 2014 and that team was historically good. Maybe the best team in league history. 29-5 record in the regular season, 8-1 in the playoffs, and they had a stacked roster. Britney Grryer, Diana Terasi, Dana Bonner, they helped lead Phoenix to their second title. First quarter of play and just over 3 and 1/2 minutes in. Copper up top. She’s covered by Ding. Copper no good. The Fever with the lead. Mitchell outside. And there’s the whistle. Foul hard on the shot and we’ll go to the line. That one ons. And you know, even before coming to the WNBA, Kelsey Mitchell was an established star. When she finished her college career, she was second all time in points. First free throw is good. and good on both. Tough question here for you guys. Who is the best shooter in the league? Well, I’m going to go with the easy answer. Sabrina Escu led the league in threes made last year and shot it at 45%. I mean, we’re talking about volume. We’re talking about efficiency. 45%. That was third best in the league. I second that. Plus, a 2024 NBA Allstar weekend, the Wally Creek Wonder almost beat Steph in that three-point shootout. And Brian, what do you think it is about Kalia Copper that makes her such a top tier offensive weapon? Most would say her pure skills, but you can’t overlook her effort level. When Copper’s on the floor, she’s giving you everything she has and then some. What’s up? You know, Kalia Copper is the kind of versatile player a team can really count on. She’s always there and ready to deliver, especially when it comes to points. Now, here’s Clark. She’s got eight. And the layup falls. That’s exactly what they’re going for in that possession. The Mercury Trail. Copper outside. Pass to Thomas. That’s in. She’s got two made now and she’s shooting two for three. Well, that level of toughness should energize Thomas’s teammates. She invites contact from opponents. Clark outside to the inside. And she was camped there in the lane. And she gets the 3second call now. Whitam. No scoring yet from her, but that’s likely to change. Here’s Thomas. can’t tie it up as that one’s no good. Now here’s Clark guarded by Sabi. Some solid defense from Sachi Sabi. Copper left side. Thomas outside. Can’t tie it up as that one misses. Here’s Clark. It’s rebounded by Thomas. Copper outside Whitam. Pass to Thomas. loads one up. Count that bucket. And that makes it a tie ball game. And it’s the fever ball. Clark outside. It falls for her fifth field goal of the night. Now shooting five for eight. Not much the D can do once she gets to the bucket. Thomas a screen. Leah Copper from outside drills the three-pointer. What a bomb from Copper. That kind of accuracy is marvelous. Now here’s Clark. 12 points for her. Mitchell outside. Back to Clark from deep. It’s rebounded by Phoenix. Here’s Goddess. Quiet so far offensively, searching for first points of the game. Copper with the ball and it’s Howard picking it up. Just five to shoot. Copper for three. Clark pulls it in. The Fever trailing. Howard inside. Yep. Count it. Once Howard collects inside, just one thing on her mind. Score. Phoenix with the ball. Copper outside. Pass to Thomas. Comes up empty down low. Indiana with the ball. Clark would come defending. Clark with it now. Mitchell covered by Goddess. Back to Clark. Double team on Caitlyn Clark. The three ball and Kelsey Mitchell gets the three. This is the pure shooting ability of Mitchell at work. Allows her to score right off the pass. subtly the screen. Here’s Copper. Nice concentration to hit the double clutch layup. What an amazing trick shot to confound the defender. Oh man, that’s awesome. And she kind of just took him to school right there. Now here’s Clark. 12 points for her. Cunningham pass to Mitchell. Right side. Howard. Now here’s Clark. Shoots the three and it’s rebounded by Saki Sabo. Very close to making the defense pay for the lack coverage that time. Not a great habit to get into. Letting her get that wide open. And the basket by Copper. You see how focused Copper is on the drive. Just slicing her way to the bucket with confidence. Bark outside. Pass to Mitchell for Goddess. Shot by Mitchell. No good. It’s very dangerous to leave her open like that. Lucky break for the Diva. She missed it. Copper outside. And here is Sabi Thomas. She’s covered by Mitchell. Thomas outside. Here’s Goddess and no good. Had a chance to take the lead. And here’s Indiana. Here’s Howard. The shot is good on the assist from Caitlyn Clark. The attacking mindset of Howard. When she gets a good look inside, she doesn’t pass it up. on the wing. Kalia Copper the Fever pull it in. Pass to Boston. Count the bucket. Coming off a perfectly placed assist. It’s not just the size of Boston, it’s also her touch around the rim. Copper with the ball. She’s covered by Cunningham. Copper outside. Sweet little floater. We just love to see Copper turn on the Jets when she’s this hot. She wants the ball every time and she deserves it every time. Now here’s Clark. She’s got 12. Pass to Mitchell. Up and in on the layup. I’m not sure really in that set who was supposed to be on her there and apparently neither did the defenders. On the wing, Kalia Copper, she’s covered by Cunningham. You know, it’s just terrific positioning on her part to get the rebound to, you know, she might not have the size or the height, but she’s got plenty of smarts. Shot by Mitch Hole. No good. Mercury trail. Thomas outside and yep, it finally drops after rolling around the rim. Easy little jump shot for her there, guys. So, at the end of one quarter of play, still a close game. Beaver ahead. They lead by two. Quarter number two coming up right after this break. Don’t go anywhere. And the second quarter getting underway. No team gaining an edge so far. And what stands out to you from the Fever in this one? Lots of running to start the game here. It’s a tempo that they like and they’re getting some easy buckets in transition. And here’s Clark. Dantis outside pass to Parks. Clark outside. Clock at six takes the three and it’s Phoenix with the rebound. And 2023 featured the closest MVP vote ever with Alyssa Thomas finishing second. Yeah, it was interesting. And Thomas actually got the most first place votes but finished just behind Brianna Stewart just ahead of Asia Wilson. Thomas averaging 16, 10, and eight. All defense, too. About as good of an allaround year as we’ve seen. Well, the paint is Thomas’s bread and butter because she is very confident in her ability to score inside. Pass the hole. Here’s Parks. Oh, covered by Goddess. Clark with it. Now Hall still getting warmed up offensively. No buckets yet in the game for her. Three points from Hull. She leaves it all out on the floor. Now here is Goddess. Goddess up top. Thomas to the right side. shot is good. Yeah, it’s Thomas’s unselfishness that fuels her team. She helps them play an exciting style at the offensive edge. Now, here’s Clark. She’s got 12. Watches it, sinks the three-pointer. How about that for a response? We’ll give you a three and then we’ll take it right back. It’s turning into a three-point contest. Here’s Goddess Brown. She’s guarded by Dantis pasta. The three and the rebound goes to the Beaver. And we’re now a little over 2 and 1/2 minutes into this second quarter. Here’s Hull from outside. Off the mark. Now here is Goddess. And here is Dimes for three. There is the long range jumper. Indiana trailing pass to Parks. Clark, here’s the three. Brown grabs the board. Now here is Goddess. Cole defending now. Dimes. Thomas right side. Goddess. Dimes. She’s covered by Clark. Here’s Dimes. Thomas down low misses from short range. Now here’s hole covered by Goddess. Clark outside. Six to shoot. There’s the triple in for her seventh make in 13 attempts. You know, some players you give that shot to, but let me be clear, she is not one of them. Terrible job by the defense. Pass to Dimes. Brown with the screen. Now here’s Dimes. The right honor out of bounds. It’ll be Fever Ball. Both teams will make substitutions. Here’s Clark. 18 points for her. Pass to Parks. Here’s Boston outside Cunningham. Parks. She’s covered by Thomas. Well, when you look at that 2024 WNBA draft, by far the most watched in league history and arguably the most talent we’ve ever seen in a draft as well. While the previous draft high was just about 600,000 viewers, this last one had 2.4 million, shattering the 20-year-old record. And really, to me, the most exciting part of the WNBA right now, it’s all the new viewers tuning in. It’s just incredible. That one’s off. Well, you just have to be excited about Aaliyah Bos. A young woman with tons of skills. She dominated in college and she’s going to dominate in the WNBA. And she’s good on the second. Well, you talk about Aaliyah Boston. She gives you everything you want in a pick. Outstanding around the hoop, elite defensively, and Boston, she can even hit threes as well to space the floor. Now, here’s Thomas. She’s got 10. Pass to Goddess. Thomas left side down low. Goddess, it’s good. And she makes her first shot of the game. Outstanding work in the screen and roll. Alyssa Thomas. What a superb pass. Now Parks Clark fires for three. Indiana again missing. Phoenix trailing here. Fast Alexa Thomas tries it from nine. Here’s Sly. Uses the glass to finish the layup. Because of Sabi’s impressive physical skills, I’m never surprised where she pulls off these contact finishes. Now here’s Austin with it. Pass the part. Hull good on the triple stretching the floor. Hull a strong three-point shooter. And so here is Phoenix trailing by two. On the wing, Sammy Whitam. She’s covered by Clark inside. And here’s Sly. Yep, that one goes. A mix of finesse and length gets Sabi the inside shot. Such a skillful player. Clark with it. She’s got 18. Goes back up and that’s two points on the layup. That rebound in the follow, it shows you what she’s all about. ready, determined, and a soft touch to match. Now, here’s Whitcom looking for a first basket still in this one. Kicks it out to St. Off target from three-point range. Clark would come defending. Clark outside and so she earns a trip to the line. official saw the contact and she’ll shoot two and it’s going to be on Sammy Whitcom. The first one falls. So, both teams changing it up here. And that one goes in. Two from the line that time. And here’s Copper. 15 points in the game. goes up on the wing and the basket by Brown. Using her lengthy wingspan to her advantage, Brown is able to dominate down low. Clark outside. Brown grabs the board outside. Whitam pass to Brown. Howard gets alive. Hopper with the ball to the left side wing. Shot clock at six. Back to Whitum. Let Beaver pull it in. Clark with it with thumb covering. Here’s Mitchell. In the hoop for her fourth field goal, four for seven shooting and looking for more. Superb work inside for Mitchell. She’s so good at finding space to shoot from the interior. Now a timeout called by Phoenix. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat up here. And here the Mercury four-point game to the middle. Here’s Brown. Good. And the assist goes to Kalia Copper. Oh man, she is so good at making those lead passes. Now here’s Mitchell covered by Goddess Clark outside. Six on the shot clock. Back to Mitchell. Shoots from the high post. They get it back. Here’s Boston. And at last they get one to fall. This is what Boston brings to your team. So much confidence in securing the offensive board outside. Solidly ask Brown. Now here is Goddess. Kick out to Copper buries it three-point range. If you let Copper get comfy, get time, and get set. She’ll just continue to bury these shots. Mitchell outside and here is Howard. Cunningham. She’s covered by Copper. Boston sets a screen to the paint. Brown grabs the board. Phoenix trailing here. Here’s Copper and she was fouled on the way up. Two free throws for her. You know, despite playing lots of time at the three, Copper is inside a lot, and it just kind of makes her a different type of matchup. Take a break. Take a break. ties it up and this next one could give them the lead. So, it’s both teams making substitutions here. And the free throw is good. Now leading by one. Indiana with the ball. Boston right side. And the shot is good. And so here is Phoenix. Now Whitam. She hasn’t scored yet. That I’m sure will change. it is good. And Whitam isn’t afraid to go in amongst the trees. Impressive finish inside. And Tim, you talk about never giving up. Sammy Whitcom graduated college in 2010. Didn’t make her W debut until 2017. That’s perseverance. Yeah. A 28-year-old rookie Sammy never gave up on that dream of playing in the league. In college, you think about, you know, her three-point shooting was good. It was 33%. In the W. That number is about 37 38%. And that improvement is why she has a spot here in the lead. Now here’s Copper. She’s got 20. Lets it go from deep. And the rebound goes to the Bever. Here’s Howard. Pass to Mitchell. Here’s Cunningham. Soft touch off the glass. Just a bundle of energy. Cunningham rolling through the lane. And it’s the Mercury with the ball. Trailing by four. Copper outside. Goddess. Copper outside subtle the screen fires from deep. Hold with the rebound. Now here’s Cunningham. She’s guarded closely and it’s rebounded by Saji Sabo. It’s stolen by Kelsey Mitchell and it’s the Beaver on the break. Cunningham with the bucket. Now that’s a quick bucket. She’s very solid in transition. Well, she does love the chance to get out and run. And we finished one half of play. The Fever on top. They’re up by six. And we’ll be back right after halftime to get the third quarter underway. Start of the third quarter here after a closely contested first half. Man, it has been an incredible game here from Caitlyn Clark. She has that slasher mentality and we really saw evidence of it in the first half. She got to the rim again and again and kept on scoring. Look, we know that she’s got that great first step, but she must have woken up on the right side of the bed today because she looks fast out there. The Fever leading right there. Pass to Mitchell and the call will be against Mitchell. That is her first foul of the game. Way to get there first and absorb the contact. Yeah, clearly no flop there. That was a direct shot to the chest. Get out. Get out. Copper with the ball. Sally the screen puts up a three and Kalia Copper gets the three. That type of D, it’s just not going to cut it. They got to get a hand in her face. Too good of a shooter. Outside Howard back to Clark. Mitchell fade away. It’s in and good for her sixth field goal in 10 attempts. Strong response from Mitchell. One of the sweetest shots in the game. Kelsey has a great release. Pass to Copper. Goes up high. And there’s another one for the Mercury. And if you’re just joining us, we played just over a minute here in the third. And here’s Clark. She’s got 22. Howard the screen. And here’s Kelsey Mitchell for three. She misses that time, but only five misses in her 11 shots from the field as she’s six of 11. And that one’s good. Goddess found the soft spot in the D right there. Indiana with the ball. The lead is two. Nashville outside. Pass to Boston. Ball’s not close. Forotis shot is good. 2 minutes gone in this third quarter now. Now Copper, she’s got 25. It’s good and she proved the contact on the shot. So she’ll go to the line. Three-point play opportunity. And this is her third trip to the free throw line in the game. So, it’s Indiana now. It’s a one-point game. Clark right side. Take a break. Take a break. And the first one falls for her. And the Mercury making a change here and that one falls. So she hits both of them. A little under two and a half minutes gone by in the third quarter. Copper outside. So she gets the whistle. Contact on the way up. Two shots. Next. It goes on Sophie Cunningham. She’s had four chances at the line and made all of them. The first free throw is good. And she makes both free throws. Now here’s Clark. 24 points for her. Mitchell outside. Pass to Boston. That’s in there. Kelsey Mitchell with the assist. Well, she’s a modern point guard. Mitchell has range, a great shot, handles, and of course, the ability to drop dimes. Now, here’s Copper. She has 30. Thomas a screen. Block at six. The bucket is good and she’ll have a chance for one more. It’ll be on Lexi Hole. Well, you just can’t shake Copper’s focus. Even when the defense roughs her up, she stays glued to the task at hand and converts the and one. She’s gone six for six from the line tonight. And that one misses the Fever with the lead. Mitchell outside. Here’s Clark. Boston sets a screen down low and she lays it straight in. How about the agility from Boston? Fantastic slash off the pick. Outside pass to Thomas. Here’s Goddess. She’s covered by Clark. Now here is Goddess Thomas outside Howard. Ali Boston grabs the miss and it’s the fever ball. Three-point lead. Clark outside. Austin sets a screen. Shot by Clark. No good. Pass to Copper. Howard with the rebound. Indiana with the ball. Clark with it. She’s got 24 inside. It’s stolen by Alyssa Thomas. puts the three flag and she’s good on the three ball and it’s all not enough. Able to play downhill and attack defenders, Thomas allows her offense to take off and flourish. Now here’s Clark Mitchell outside the layup off target and it’s Mercury with the ball. And here’s Goddess Chopper outside for the lead. The Beaver pull it in. Pass to Clark. From down in the low post it goes. And it’s the Mercury with the ball. Trailing by two now. Copper hold. Copper. No good. Howard up top. She’s covered by Thomas. Pass to Clark to the inside. Here’s Boston. Yes, what an assist from Caitlin Clark. Well, not just a post player. Boston’s got a great overall offensive game. Leads to to huge nights like this. Copper old defending. Gober drives in and the shot goes down. Now Park, she’s got 26. Austin sets a screen. The three and Clark gets the three. Look, I’m not sure who was supposed to pick her up, but someone’s going to get an earful from the coach for leaving her that wide open. Copper from outside. Sasha Howard with the rebound. Pass to Clark. Back to Howard. Mitchell. Austin sets a screen. shoots a fader. It’s rebounded by Phoenix. She may have been surprised to find herself so open. Maybe that’s why she missed Thomas down low. She’s covered by Mitchell. And so she draws the foul on the shot. A trip to the line to shoot. You know, I just can’t get over the fact that Alyssa Thomas has been playing with two torn labrooms for years now. I mean, talk about toughness. Yeah. Hence her one-handed shooting style. But she’s an absolute warrior. She’s not only playing through pain, she’s doing it at an elite level. And the first one at the line is good. A key cog in this offense. Thomas embraces her role and really looks to score whenever she can. So after making the first, she goes one for two. Pass to Mitchell. Parks. Back to Mitchell. Now here’s she’s got five. Here’s Austin. And it goes for the eighth time in 10 attempts. Her stroke has been dead on. Inside, outside, wherever the shots are falling for her. Over to the wing. Here’s Dimes. Thomas a screen pass to Goddess. That’s in there. Alyssa Thomas with the assist. That assist. A little nod from her teammate after the bucket. So it’s Indiana now. Four-point game. Now here’s Clark by Dimes. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. And she makes the first. The fever making a switch here. That’s also good. So she and them both. Phoenix trailing here. And the Mercury call time here. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat up here. Heat. Heat. Here’s goddess copper hole defending. from about 10 ft out. Copper no good. The Fever leading right there. Hole with the ball. Pass to Clark. Shot clock at six. Drains it from beyond the arc. She might not be the top sharpshooter in this league, but that’s not a shot that D can afford to give to her. Goddess with the ball. Copper dimes. She’s covered by Clark. Back to Copper. Brown sets a screen. Copper no good. Lexi Hole on the wing. She’s covered by Copper. Shots good by Clark. It’s a one-man show out there, guys. Looks like she’s willing to handle all the offensive duties for them. Pass to Goddess out to the left wing to the middle. Chopper no good. Here’s the fever with the ball. They lead by 11. The largest margin of the game. Dantis. She’s covered by Brown. To the paint. Here’s Hull. Yes. And it’s Deiras Dantis picking up the assist. Well, we’ve seen Lexi Hull has some range, but she can also slash. Bring it inside. Pass to Goddess. Copper outside over hold and basket by Copper. I like how Copper lets the game come to her. When the mid-range game opens up, she takes it. And here’s Hull. She’s covered by Copper. Back to Clark from the arc. Rebounded by Copper. It’s 9 seconds separating the shot clock and the game clock. Pass to Brown. Misses the baby hook. Lexi Hole on the wing. She’s covered by Copper. Oh, no good. From deep three-point range. Well, through 3/4 of play, down double digits. It may be difficult to overcome. The Fever on top up 11. And after a quick break, we’re coming right back with the start of the fourth quarter. And we welcome you back as we get going into the fourth quarter. The final quarter of play can change everything. And here’s Thomas asked Alexa and the lead is down inside single digits. They can’t afford to give her that kind of look. Well, it came off a good screen, but still as a defender, you have to fight over the top of it. And you need some help as well. Now, here’s Dantis. Pass to Clark. takes the three, drains the three-pointer. What are they thinking? Leaving her with all that space out there. Don’t they know that that’s pretty much a layup for her? Now Goddess. Now here is Dimes. She’s covered by Clark. Now Thomas. And here’s God. Six to shoot. pass to Alexa for three. Sinks the triple. Only took him a few seconds to answer the ball at one end with their own. A three-point battle starting to take shape here. Now here’s Clark. About a minute and a half through the fourth quarter now. Tried to answer back, but that three is off the mark. Phoenix trailing here. Brown sets a screen. Here’s Goddess and the call will be against Brown. That has her first foul of the game. Now here’s Clark. buries it down low. And we’re about two minutes into the fourth quarter now to the inside. Here’s Brown. That one falls coming off Alyssa Thomas’s feet. He placed that pass right out in front of her and just let her run into it. Now here’s Clark. Not a lot of room. Inside Parks drops in the layup for two. Well, that pick it worked like a charm. Nice job taking it right to the tin for the layup. Pass the Dimes. A little over 2 and 1/2 minutes have passed by now here in the fourth quarter. Six on the shot clock. screen by Goddess. Misses the three. Here’s Coulson covered by Goddess. Here’s Clark. Shoot. No good on that one and she sinks the second. A difficult situation for Phoenix. Pass to Laxa. Back to Whitam from past the arc. Nailed from three-point man. A true sniper. Defenses should know that Wickham will be hunting for these looks. Here’s Hole covered by Goddess. Now here’s hole guarded closely. Rebound by Goddis. Phoenix with the ball. They trail by nine points. Here’s Thomas. That shot no good. Here’s Mo. Pass to Parks. Now Cunningham covered by Goddis. Here’s Wickcom. Here’s Mack. Good work defensively by Sophie Cunningham. And here’s Indiana. 13 points was their biggest lead of the game. Now here’s Clark. Quickcom defending. They get the rebound. Here’s Cunningham and the three ball is good. Well, Cunningham is a taller guard which makes her a tough cover for most other guards in the league. Pass to Laxa. Whitam. Offensive rebound. back and the rebound paying off as they pick up two on the second chance bucket right there. Strong rebounding and she gets the easy put back as a result. Now here’s Clark. Defense is right there. Now here’s down low. Here’s Cunningham. Yes. And it’s Deiras Dantis picking up the assist. Not just a perimeter threat, Cunningham is also dangerous on the interior. Pasta Goddess. And here’s Thomas Laxa. She’s covered by Cunningham. Shot clock at five. Here’s good on the three-point shot. That was simply a defensive breakdown there. She was all alone for that shot. I I mean that’s like a warm-up jumper. Now here’s Clark. And here’s Parks. Clark outside. Let’s go with a three. And another three for Indiana. Oh, some quick uh retaliation right there, huh guys? Yeah, it sure didn’t take him long to go and get those three points back. Pass to Thomas. Whitam got us up top. There’s the three. The Fever pull it in. Here’s Clark. And the layup’s good. Off the glass. She came out of locker room smoking. Great second half for her so far. Pass to Goddess. Goddess with the ball. Screen by Goddess. Here’s Laxa. Hits it from three-point range. She can be forgotten in her offense sometimes, but to you got to keep an eye on her still. Timeout called the fever. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Both teams deciding to change it up. So is Indiana now. Clark with it. Pass to Mitchell. Howard the screen. Shot by Mitchell. No good. Thomas with the ball. Howard’s there. And they pick up two. Persistence pays off for Copper inside. And past the contact and right to a look. Park left side and the layup is good. Now here’s Thomas guarded by Howard. Pass to Copper. The fever pull it in. Outside Cunningham. Now here’s Clark with come defending. Jayen Clark penetrating Boston. Yes. For basket number nine. She’s missed only two shots from the floor all night. No stopping Boston. Too much strength to the middle. Here’s Sly of Boston grabs the miss. So it’s Indiana now. 13-point lead. Outside Cunningham Austin. She’s covered by Thomas. Here’s the second effort to Thomas with the rebound. And here are the Mercury. Savali down low. She’s covered by Cunningham. That one is good. She has missed only one of her six shots from the floor. Now Goddess subtly the screen. Here’s Goddess. And they’re going to count the bucket and center to the line. It will be a three-point play. Heat. Heat. And it’s been a rough few years for Indiana. They haven’t been to the playoffs since 2016. Singledigit wins in five of the last seven seasons. But the good news is the Fever have loads of young talent. Starting with Caitlyn Clark and Aaliyah Boston. They have arguably the best young core in the W. Time called here. The Fever decide to talk it over. Heat. Heat. Heat up here. So, it’s Indiana now. The biggest lead of the game, 15 points. Clark can’t get it to go. And here are the Mercury. A 12-point game. Thomas with the ball and it’s Howard picking her up. Thomas down low. Howard’s there and it’s Thomas missing on the wing. Sophie Cunningham. Whitcom defending to the paint. Pass to Clark. Howard Cunningham. Quit come defending. Clock at six from the elbow. Cunningham with the bucket. With a quick and consistent release, Cunningham can knock down shots from mid-range, downtown, you name it. Now here’s Whitcom. Copper outside, hangs home the trifecta. Well, she scored most of their points, but she can’t score them all. She needs some help if they’re going to come back. And here’s Indiana. They lead by 11. Pass to Howard. Back to Mitchell. Clark with it. Whit come defending. Now here’s Cunningham. Mitchell outside. Tried to come right back with a three of her own, but it’s no good. Right side would come. tries again. Foul called that time on the way up and over two chances at the free throw line. This is the thing about Wickham. The defense is trying to react, but they’ve got their hands full. That free throw missing. And she ends up making the second and that brings them within 10. Not as productive of a trip to the line as she’d have liked. They really need all their free throws to go down at this point. Boston sets a screen to the inside. Well, we saw this with Boston even back in college. She does a great job of drawing fouls. Shooting two. And the first one drops. A big group substitution here for Indiana. and good on the second. So she makes vote. And 2023 was a frustrating season for the Mercury and 9 and 31 record. The second worst record in team history as they missed the playoffs for the first time in 10 years. They were dead last in defensive rating. So, if you want to talk about a big improvement, it’s got to start there. Here’s Coulson and Jones pulls it down after the Mac. And so it’s the Fever taking care of business in this one.
