FULL HIGHLIGHTS | Utah Royals FC vs. Kansas City Current
Monahan up front and a lot of belief after their result against Orlando last weekend. They’ll want to use that to their advantage against Kansas City tonight. Healthy throughout this season, but also to ensure that they have more than just 11 players that stay available and can play 90 minutes throughout. And game number 100 of this NWSL season kicks off in Utah. It’s the Royals hosting the Kansas City current. Tanaka slicing inside and hit toward Fra. Lorena just making herself available for that back line of Utah and then able to play forward. That’s exactly what we were talking forward and then have options running off of the ball carrier. Great idea from Utah and this is the belief that we were talking about. They have the ability to break teams down. There’s that finishing product you need to get right. Deina trying to allow Shawinga to run onto it. When your captain puts that effort in, everybody notices Cooper stretching to get to this. It’s Michelle Cooper. It is offside. Clear offside as you get a a good picture right there. The angle of it, but love that ball in behind. It’s a high back line. No pressure. A cool 20 fouls last week in Orlando to prove it. That floats back post. Cleared away from the line. It’s still on here once again. A header away and now soarses into the air and out to Cooper. Look at how close this was to the opening goal. A near goal. Excellent positioning from Dorsy. Exactly. And what I love about Vanessa is she doesn’t need to be the star every time. She’s willing to do the work and slip that final pass. And I think on a team full of superstars, you really need a player like that. Shawinga. Shawinga did something along the way, but Mlin wasn’t fooled. Does a really good job of getting down quickly right here. Two, three players. And this is something we expect every single game. Two versus one. Anytime Sha has a challenge, she playing an elevation. Anonowski told us pregame league rules dictate you have to be in market 24 hours before a road game. They want to get in and out as quick as they can. They arrived about 24 hours and 40 minutes before kick tonight. This is a real chance for Soloro. Solarso hammers it right at Lorena going out the other way. allows Monahan to be able to find that moment and then taking players on. Best opportunity comes from the rotations committing more numbers forward into the attack and then for Kansas City, Leont, Prince Mace, Hopkins, and yes, Sentinor. And halftime arrives here in Utah. Scoreless at the break. Glory player of the year in 2024. [Applause] 34 games for Utah and now her first for Kansas City. [Music] Dorsy [Music] That’s McGlenn. [Music] Zornosa Tanaka Dorsy. Ammani Dorsy stinging the palms of Lena. Well, this is why they want her higher up the field at times from that right back position because she has that ability and only strike from distance, but he’s had another number higher up the field. More difficult. That was a point of emphasis coming into this game cuz here comes Shawinga against Delava and got by Delava. It is Shawinga. It’s engulfed by McGlin. Shawinga trying to fight to win it back off reel. Ricochets off of Shawinga. [Applause] Ball whipped across. Header comes high. Shawingo is waiting. Turning and flicked through traffic into the path of McGlin. They’ve played within a goal twice. They lost by three earlier this season in KC. [Music] Rodriguez. Shawinga. The options plentiful here. Roll forward to Prince. Prince across. Shawinga. Ball falls long high. Early ball from Izzy Rodriguez. Doesn’t allow Utah defensively to get set. Then you have the numbers and don’t know if Shawa knew that Long was right behind her. Could have let that go initially. What an atmosphere it was last year in Kansas City. Orlando ultimately finishing off the double. They won the Shield, the regular season title and then ousted Washington. Kansas City has their eyes on that this year. [Music] ball muscled away. Donosa ticked back by Tanaka. That’s good work by Kaiser to keep it in front. Tanaka. Tanaka somehow got a shot away and it flutters into Lena. Oh, great little smell of football right there. And then up, back, and through. And this is what when you have a bit more of a attacking midfielders on the field instead of a true center center forward. It’s too long. It’s Lorena. [Music] Hammered ahead by Rodriguez. He header from Reel. Collected by Shawinga. Sandor dancing, firing, blocked by Real. She’s been a a welcome return to that back line for Utah. One of the reasons why they’re very close to maybe getting a Is that going to get through for Shawinga? Shawinga tingly the keeper and scored. Oh, how in the world there is no more lethal goal scorer on the planet than Tamo Shalenga and the current lead in Utah. say you have to be inch perfect defensively because this player right here Shawinga is always going to be towing the line seeing if she can get on the end of it. No pressure on the surface once again and she just sneaks in gets on the wrong side of her defender and then just at the last second when McLenn’s coming off the line trying to make herself as big as possible. Look at this. The composure at the right moment just lets it drop so then she can just lift it over the momentum of Glenn. Mclenn losing their best player last week went and got a point on the road against Orlando really limited especially in this second half Kansas City to not a ton of opportunities or even clear opportunities create some on the for themselves as well. So just going to be about continuing to build continuing to stay the course doing it as a collective unit throughout. Good touch from Tanaka. Tanaka went in for goal. Chested by Lena and will hold up long enough to eke out a couple of seconds before Kaiser forces Utah to take something. Now it’ll be the spectacular that’ll do it. Inside photoer continues. Kaiser. There’s contact in the penalty area. Crowded sense. Shot toward frame. Lena Dimes has it. [Music] Kanaka expressive arms wide asking referee Brandon Stevis to have another look but play continues looked like it was sharples that came through the back and even if that’s not called that’s the movement I’m talking about from Tanaka CC Kaiser it’s really difficult to defend because as a defender you want to latch on to a striker they drift off that back line so difficult to pick up Sharpel comes in a little bit late potentially but not enough to calling a penalty kick now or never Kansas City hang on and make it eight consecutive wins. Thompson Thompson wonderful the ball. The header is high. Lacass nearly had a dream return. Almost a bit too early. Love that run from Thompson. Far post puts herself in a really good position but jumps a little too early and then gets underneath him. And that’s the last kick. the last header of the game. The final whistle blows and Kansas City a one- nothing victory over Utah Royals. Eight straight wins for the current and Utah gave
