🔴LIVE 🔴 Miami Marlins VS Atlanta Braves/August 09/Baseball Envivo/MLB THE SHOW 25

It’s the Miami Marlins going up against the Atlanta Braves. And we’ll be back with the first pitch right after this. And now, please welcome just about ready to go. And on the mound in this one, Carlos Carrasco. Well, he’s been a very dependable starter for his club, and what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him. And it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball. Maybe it’s the release point, maybe it’s the motion, but just some way, somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side. Xavier Edwards, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. swings, fouls it off, and he breaks his bat. inside. Just missed. Check swing and he went. Goodell. Two balls and two strikes. just missed. Really good take, especially with two strikes. Out of line out towards center. Harris makes the grab. One away. And time now for the Marlins lineup. And so far this year, this has not been a very good offense. Well, in this day and age, if you can’t slug and get on base, that OPS has to be at a certain level. If you’re going to produce runs, give your pitchers an opportunity as they’re facing tough offenses as well. Kyle Sters digs in now. He set a new career high in home runs this year. And Sigy, he’s just trying to set the bar as high as possible. Now, this one popped up. Foul ground first base side. Yeah, baby. makes the catch. Two away. That was a good pitch to hit right down the heart of the plate. Had pretty good timing on it. Just got underneath it a little bit and popped it up. Now it’s the DH Augustine Ramirez. He’s a catcher by trade, but the DH here in this one. Carlos. Pitch misses. And that’s ball one. Come on. That one fouled off. Two down. Nobody on. That’s off the inside corner and it’s two and one. And there’s a ball. And a foul ball. Two out. Space is empty. Cut on and missed. And it’s a strikeout. And that is the inning. And the Marlins down quietly. And now the Braves will get their first crack at it. No score. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. Back here in Atlanta getting the nod on the mound. Yuri Perez and Singi. We were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. I’ve just been so impressed with when it seems like there’s more pressure, he’s more calm and settles in. and he’s done an incredible job with runners in scoring position. Most guys, they get a little tight, they start to aim the baseball, but for some reason he gets looser, the ball comes out of his hand with more life, and he’s able to wiggle off the hook of, you know, tough situations and get his team back in the dugout. Jerken Proar leading things off and takes a strike. Next offering in there for a strike. 0 and2 02 count. Both pitches on the inside part of the plate. Hitter is thinking I don’t want to get beat here. This is a good time for something. This one swung on and hit well way back there. Gone. He hammers one out to right. And the Braves had the lead now. It’s one- nothing. He’s so good at getting his arms extended and then that’s exactly what he did right there. You don’t typically want to pull a pitch in that part of the plate, but he doesn’t allow his wrist to roll over. stays through the ball, gets the loft, and gets the home run. Matt Olsen, the next to hit, takes outside. Strike one. The real threats are coming up. Already giving up a home run in this inning. He’s going to really have to bear down. And that is out of play. And that skips in the dirt upstairs. cuts and misses. It’s a strike out. That was a tough slider right there. He couldn’t get a piece of it just to try to keep the at bat alive. And hitters will tell you that slider when a guy’s able to really tunnel the pitch where it looks like a fast ball and then late has really good bite. so tough to lay off of because you’ve made the decision you don’t want to get beat by a fast ball and then you swing and you miss. You go back to the dugout shaking your head. And now Drake Baldwin that one outside and it’s a ball and a strike. Boo. He never moved because he never had time to. But that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. That one misses. Three and one. That one in there across the letters. One out. Base is empty. Line drive to short and caught. Batting. Here’s the Atlanta Braves lineup. This group was shut out their last game, so we’re going to see if they can bounce back with a better effort here today. And Boo, it can get in your head a little bit when you get shut out. You’re frustrated. You’re seeing that consecutive streak of innings you haven’t scored. And you want to get off to a great start. Score early because if you don’t, you feel like it could linger into two consecutive games, which no one wants to be a part of. Marcelo Zuna now in the box comes up empty with a swing there. Foul ball. Ball one there. Oh, that’s up. Battling here as he fouls it away. Here’s a 2-2. Hit pretty well in the air out to center. Marcy hauls it in to end the inning. Braves get one on the big fly. It’s now one- nothing. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. Second inning, set to go. And here’s the catcher, Liam Hicks. Carrasco back to work. Fouled off. He was late. Next offering is down low. Our umpire behind the plate, Jerry Hillsdale. High praise for Jerry when we talk to people around the game. Yeah, no doubt about it, Boo. He’s very straightforward, very consistent back there. So, most of the time you’re not even going to think about him. That’s a good thing. And that finds the mark on the outside corner. And it’s one and two. Ground ball to the right side. He takes it on his own. One out in the second. Good slider inside right there. Batter fighting to get there. Just rolled over it. Got the ground ball. And at the plate for Miami. Otto Lopez. This has been a career year for him when it comes to driving in runs. fought off. Foul. One down. Base is empty. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Strike him out. Sets him down on strikes. Fast ball at the letters, frozen for strike three. Well, I think that’s a case of overthinking right there. You got three straight fast balls looking in the 02 count just to pour it back. Next to hit, Jacob Marcy just missed. missed with a change up. Now two and 0. Two and0. Fast ball for a strike. Fly ball down the line and that’s a foul ball. on the ground and foul ball. Here comes the pitch that’s down and in. The right-hander gives up the two out walk and that’s their first base runner of the game. What a battle. It’s not always easy laying off a 3-2 pitch and I tell you what, he earned that walk. And now for the Marlins, Eric Wagaman. Late swing fouled off. Next offering is in for a strike. And that’s downed away. Hard hit to third. Throw on to Olsen and that’ll do it. Marlins leave one. They’re down one- nothing. Bottom of the second now. Michael Harris II. This is a guy who’s in the lineup first and foremost because of what he contributes defensively, Chris. And when you talk about preventing runs from being scored, this guy is a big contributor. I was always told it’s hard to take you off the field when you play really good defense, especially at a premier position. And that’s what he does. The hitting’s going to come around. He’s going to figure it out. But right now, his big asset is the way he plays the game on defense. Foul ball still 0 and two. Swing and a miss. 98 mph on the gun. With that kind of velocity, an elevated fast ball, even if it’s still in the strike zone, can be tough for hitters to get on top of. And here comes Azie Alb’s to the dish. There’s the strike up high. It’s 0 and one. And strike two. No balls, two strikes. Next pitch is outside. Backed off the plate that time. down. That’s a good at bat right there. He was down early in that plate appearance. Works the walk. That’s a tough one to swallow right there. If you’re on the mound, you’re ahead in the count 02 and you just couldn’t find a way to put him away. It’s going to be frustrating if that one comes back to bite him. Eli White in the box now. No balls in a strike. There it was. A high velocity fastball in the zone. I think a little frustration from walking the previous hitter. He’s got good stuff. Pitch inside the zone and trust it. And one. And that’s outside. Swing and a miss. That is strike two. One and two the count and down on strikes he goes. That K is his third of the game. Jonathan Ornelis next up for the Braves. There’s the strike. Come on, Jonathan. That one is absolutely belted way back there. Out of here into the planter out in center. Home run. He flexes his power with that swing. His first homer of the year. It’s three nothing. Well, he put a really nice swing on that one and everything was on time. took a direct path to the ball, excellent extension, and just drove it out of here. Nothing better than when the ball jumps off your bat like that. There we go. Two outs, nobody on. Nick Allen next up for the Braves misses just off the outside edge. I think that was a strike, two outs, and that one fouled off. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. try to go again with a fast ball slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Next pitch, a slider that misses outside. Pretty easy to give up on that pitch right there. Started on the edge of the plate with the spin. You know it’s going to finish well off the plate. Two down. Swing and a highf fly ball down the right field line and no one can get to it. It’s a foul ball. Two and two. Gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. Base is empty. Two away, but two runs are in. Bottom half of inning number two. That misses. Full count now. Hard hit left side and that is the third out of the inning. Braves pick up two on the long ball. It’s now 3 nothing. Major League Baseball is on the show. On to the third inning. Now it’s the right fielder Troy Johnston. Roy Johnston. Well, after putting up a nice inning on offense, got some runs across. This is where you look for the starter to go out there, have a shutdown inning. Don’t give that other team any hope. Uh you just hope that he can get through this inning, get the bats back up there while they’re hot. Next pitch is outside. Well, the offense has gotten going and a pitcher wants to go out there, have a real quick inning, get those guys back into the dugout so those bats can stay hot. And that misses and a count two and one. Was a good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it. He had a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. late that time and it’s strike two. I think he was sitting off speed there right through there. Got him. And he’s registered three Ks in this one. This guy will throw any pitch in any count. 32. He goes off speed, gets the out. And up next for Miami, Graham Paulie. That one missed Paulie in his rookie season. 24 years old and they went out and made a trade for him last season. Atlanta hard ground ball base knock. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. He was all over that one. I know that was a ground ball, but it was absolutely hammered through the infield. That’s not one you’re excited to get in front of if you’re an infielder. You know, they used to say, “Charge it.” Crazy. Back to the top of the Miami order. Now it’s the second baseman. Xavier Edwards right through there for a strike. And now the count is even. Man at first, one away. Misses inside. Two and one. Come on, Brave. Just missed now. A screamer into the outfield and there are two outs. Up next for the Marlins, left fielder Kyle Sters. Kyle Sters the next up for the Marlins 0 for one as he popped out foul to first and a rope into center field. Base hit and out to a board. Augustine Ramirez the next up for the Marlins. He was a strikeout victim his first time and ball one outside low and it’s 2 and 0. Could be some action here on this next pitch. Couple runners on. Probably a challenge pitch coming. Two on, two outs. In the dirt, that’s in there. And it’s three and one. Paulie the lead runner out at second. Sters on at first with two down in for a strike. Now it’s three and two. And boy, that was the pitch. 3-1. You want to be really aggressive on the fast ball. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. strikes him out. Fouled off and they’ll do it again. Good battle here. About to be the eighth pitch of the at bat. Gets a piece and stays alive. Knocks that one away. And we’ll do it again. Popped up. Foul territory behind the plate. Baldwin pulls that one down. And that is that. Two left on. We move on to the bottom of inning number three. It’s the Braves three and the Marlins nothing. Set for the bottom of the third. Proofar climbs in on that left side. Proar dives, but it kicks off his glove. The throw won’t get there in time and they don’t get the out. So, a man aboard, Matt Olsen. Next up for the Braves struck out swinging his first time. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. You know, these Braves showing great discipline at the plate and patience definitely seems to be the name of their game in this one. It’s not just the three runs they’ve already scored. On top of that, they forced this starter to throw more pitches than he wanted to at this point of the game. And it’s even up. And that pitch count is impactful because if they can keep making him work hard out there, it may force the bullpen to get involved a little sooner rather than later. Outside with a breaking ball, nobody out. Runner at first. Next offering is in for a strike. stays alive. Pitch misses there. Three and two now. He should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with the three-hole hitter coming up if he’s walked. And ball four, two aboard. Oh, now he’s got two runners on after that walk. And things can get out of hand in a hurry in these situations. So, he’s going to have to find a way to get back into the strike zone. Now, it’s going to be Drake Baldwin. I’m curious how he decides to attack on the mound. This guy at the plate has been great hitting under pressure this year. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Big at bat right here with an opportunity to do damage. But on the flip side, ground ball, double play, strike out. That could get the inning back under control on the mound. 01 now. Foul ball there. swings through it and that’s a strike out. Just overmatched on that fast ball right there and it wasn’t like he was set up for it by something off speed earlier in the at bat. Just came right after him with three straight and he had no answer for it. Here’s Marcelo Zuna. Fly to center his first time. Fast ball for a strike. Runners at first and second with one gone here in the last half of the third. Swinging a foul out of play. Next pitch, a slider that misses outside. And that’s ruled a swing. It’s a strike out. Batt now, Michael Harris II. 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time. A swing and a miss. And that’s strike one. In the on deck circle, you really want to use that opportunity to see some pitches and time up the fast ball. Last thing you want to do is miss a good hitable fast ball early in the count. First and second, two down. The 1-1 is fouled off. Two outs. And that’s off the inside edge. Two and two. Yeah, that’s too high. Azie Albies on deck for Atlanta and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Foul ball left side. He’ll see another foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. Come on. Ground ball right side throws to first. That is the inning. No runs, a hit, two left. Three innings complete. It’s the Braves three and the Marlins nothing. Back at Truis Park, John Shambi with Chris Singleton. And set to lead off the fourth, Liam Hicks. Come on. Clips the corner. Strike one. He’s been pitching well, but we’ll see what kind of adjustment the hitters make this second time through the order. We’ll know if he’s got really good stuff in this one or not. Comes up empty. That’s strike two. Gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. Good job to fight that one off. swings through that one. It’s a strike out. Oh, really went aggressive in with that slider. Good two strike pitch right there. At worst case scenario, it’s weak contact in play. Exactly where he and the catcher wanted it. Otto Lopez getting ready to hit. Went down looking on three pitches last time. Let’s see if he can be a little more aggressive right here inside and it’s one and0. Oh, I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning, anything after that a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. The one-1 is fouled off. The shorts stop takes a ball. Face knock center field. So a man aboard now with one away. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. Here’s the center fielder, Jacob Marcy. And that’s through there for a strike. Go 0 and one. He’s pitching well, but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes. Usually doesn’t work out for success, but you can never predict baseball. And that’s pushed foul off to the left and out of play. That’s a ball. Lopez the base runner at first with one out. And down on strikes. He picks up his fifth strike out on the hill. Eric Wagaman the next up for the Marlins. grounded out his first time right through there for a strike. Carrasco will move to first and he’s back in safely. The Braves leading by three. Top half of inning number four. misses inside. Ball one. One spoils a two- strike pitch. And he’ll see another. Got him looking. So he picks up his sixth strike out of the ball game. One left for Miami. They trail it here. 3 nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. Ready to go. Bottom four. So now to the plate for Atlanta. Azie Alb’s in there for a strike at the top of the zone. Activity in the bullpen. Calantrol getting loose out there. Junk getting cranked up as well. He swings and fouls one off. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Breaking ball misses. Down and away. Tough to take a two strike change up that just missed. I think it froze him. Goes down looking. I’m not saying it it wasn’t a strike or, you know, it was a ball, whatever. But just the location with that velocity, it’s hard enough even if the velocity is not great, but that velocity, that location, tip your cap. And next for Atlanta, Eli White caught looking his first time up. That one pushed foul. late on that fast ball. Base is empty, one away. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth and a curve misses outside. swaying and a ball lifted in the air. Johnston hauls it in for the out. Up next for the Braves designated hitter. Now the Marlins manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen. Yuri Perez will depart and he’s not going to be happy with himself. New pitcher on the mound in a moment. Now pitching for Valente Beoo taking over on the mound. He last pitched two days ago. Two down, base is empty. So, here’s the Braves designated hitter, Jonathan Ornelis. He’s already homerred here in this one. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Swinging a ground ball, but it kicks foul. Two down, nobody on. And down on strikes he goes. And good work there as he gets a one, two, three. And the Braves go down quietly. But they’re on top by a count of three to nothing. And we’re back. And now the right fielder Troy Johnston. All right. Carrasco back to work. Just missed. The Braves bullpen has some activity. Austin Cox getting ready to come in for manager Brian Snicker. Kinley also throwing out to short. Allen throws across the diamond. One away here in the fifth. Back when they started construction on Truis Park, Freddy Freeman and Hank Aaron laid down ceremonial bricks. But the first brick was put down by Eustace Morris. He’s the same person who laid the first stones for Old Fulton County Stadium and Turner Field. Paulie takes Low. Second trip to the plate in this one. Like you said, Boog, the Braves have really done a great job of honoring their history here at Truis Park. When they had their first game, Hank threw out the first pitch to former manager Bobby Cox. And they both have statues in Monument Garden. Up and in. And it’s two and one. Ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. So now back to the top of the order. Up next for the Marlins. So the batting order turns over. Savior Edwards will hit next. Bowl for two in this one. And that’s a little bit high. And that’s ball one. Boo. The runner at first needs to be careful right here. He’s dealing with a pickoff artist on the mound. Paulie leads off first with one away. There we go. Two. Swang and a miss. There’s that change up. Carrasco will move to first. Paulie back in on a dive. And a foul ball. Double play ball to second. Slings to first in time. Good fade and sinking action of that change up. Got that hitter to roll over. Now batting leftielder Kyle. And at the plate for Miami, Kyle Sters. And that misses one and0. Two outs and one in scoring position. And that’s in for a strike. And now two balls in a strike. swing and a ground ball and that one gets through into center field. Now a long throw home. Safe. In comes the run from second. And now just a two-run deficit. Well, here we are. Third time through the order. And this is where we see the OPS jump up. manager might have to go to the bullpen a little bit sooner than he anticipated. Here comes the skipper and we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot. Carlos Carrasco is done in this one and that’s an excellent job from the reliever in the starting role today. Gave him some length. Back with a new arm after this pitching righty reliever out of the pen, Tyler Kinley. still a lot of game left and this game could go either way. So, this is a big opportunity for him to get some important outs and try to help carry this lead into the later innings. So, two down now. Here’s the Marlins DH. Augustine Ramirez squirts away a little bit. The Braves up by two and we’re at the top of the fifth. That one misses and the count is 2 and 0. He hasn’t wanted to challenge him. Both of those pitches off the plate away. Don’t expect anything down the heart of the plate. You may just have to be patient and take your walk here. Two outs. Line drive. White snags it. And that is that. But the RBI single pushes across a run. And this is now a 31 ball game. You’re dialed into the show. We head to the bottom of the fifth. And now Nick Allen. Nick Allen. And first offering is fouled off. Just missed. One and one. So a foul ball makes it one and two. Ground ball left side, jump throw across his body and very nicely done for the out. Now batting third base Profar. Back to the top of the lineup. Here’s Proar. First pitch and that’s in for a strike. And one, one down. Base is empty. Ground ball up the middle. Throws to first in time. Old man for the fifth inning. Moving along. Two quick outs. Now batting first. Here is Matt Olsen. He is struck out and he is walked. Come on, Atlanta. Late swing fouled to the left. Two down to there’s a foul ball. The O2 in the air left field down the line and that drops foul. Let’s get it going, Braves. chases the fast ball up the ladder. Struck him out. Braves are set down one, two, three, but they still lead it 3-1. Back here in Atlanta, top of the sixth inning. Here’s the catcher, Liam Hicks. Waste no time there. Just an awesome swing of the bat. Quick hands and just launched the baseball. 108 on the exit velocity. Man, that is coming off the bat. Pretty good. I know he’s feeling good about it. And now the short stop. Otto Lopez one for two. A short stop takes the ball. Now these guys definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. Try to close that gap. But you know at the very least if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first, it feels like it’s really important to getting back into this ball game. And another ball backto-back breaking pitches away. You get the feeling as a hitter that the pitcher is afraid of you, that he doesn’t want to challenge you. So I think the confidence level is raised right here. At 96, that pitch is in for a strike. with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. Not close with that one. Full count now on this count. Runner not known for his speed, but I think you got to put him in motion. Try to avoid a double play here. Boo. Swang at a highf fly ball. Well struck. That’s back onto the track and he makes the catch. Now that number three, Jacob Marcy the next up for the Marlins. A strike out and a walk. Kinley in his seventh season. He features a slider, a fourseamer, and he works in a change up. Bottom of the zone and a cold strike. That one’s in there. It’s a ball in two strikes with the tying run at the plate. And we’re the top half of the sixth. And that one is inside and it remains two and two. A healthy cut. Tough pitch at 98, but a really good pass at the ball. Hicks the runner at first with one gone in the inning. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. And there’s a ball count bounced to the right side. There to beat him by an eyelash. Now batter number 33. So up next, Eric Wagaban. Come on. Swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. Baldwin makes the catch and that’ll do it. So, no runs here on a base hit, no errors and one left. Hard of the order. 345 coming up. It’s the Braves three and the Marlins won. Back at Truis Park. Well, we go bottom six. Now it’s the Atlanta catcher Drake Baldwin. Late on that fast ball. Miami’s bullpen with some action. Calantrol up and loosening in the pen. Yoan hit hard. base hit and they have their first hit since the third inning. Everything came together perfectly for him right there. Absolutely punished that pitch. Wasn’t fooled in the slightest. 109 off the bat. I think that means you put a pretty good swing on it. Man at first, nobody out. Here comes Ozuna up to the plate. and the first pitch misses for ball one. Pickoff throw tag and he’s picked off. Man, you’re feeling so good. You just got the knock. you’re on base and then right away you get picked off. That’s just a tough one to swallow, especially after leading off an inning with a single. One ball, one strike. That’s a little bit low. Off the mark there and now three in one. That one ripped left field. That’s back there. Going gone. He sends it out of here and they add to their lead. It’s 4-1. That’s their third home run of the game. They’re having a lot of fun at the plate in this one. They’ve got the long ball working for them on autopilot. Knew what pitch he wanted to hit. Spent on some other pitches in this at bat. Was very patient and it paid off. One out. Space is empty. Michael Harris II now at the plate. That one ripped in. One hops off the wall. Should be extra bases into second and he’s got it double. Man, those are the types of hits where you don’t feel any vibration in your hands whatsoever. Such a good feeling. I love the approach he had right there with that pitch. Not trying to do too much, but still looking to drive it. And that’s exactly what he’s able to do into the opposite field gap for the double. One out, runner at second. Now in for the Braves. Azie Alby’s to the right side and he handles it himself for the out. Now batting right fielder Eli White. Eli White next up for the Braves. We talk about guys with good speed and definitely he has it, but pushing the offensive side for just a second, Chris. It’s the defensive side that I think the speed factors in the most and that is out of play. Well, he gets to balls that get by most people at that position. just really impressive because there’s certain times the ball comes off the bat automatically that team that hit it thinks that they’ve got a base hit or they may have extra bases and he just takes it away. Hard hit right side takes it himself. They limit the damage here, but the solo shot stretches their lead even further. It’s now a 4-1 ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound, Dylan Lee. He’s been so good against lefties. And now here is Troy Johnston. The Marlins in striking distance but have some work to do. Boo. It starts with the laid-off man. I need a good at bat out of him right here. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. Next offering is in for a strike. In this situation, you expect the batters to be a little more patient, possibly take until they get a strike. with that. You don’t want to miss your opportunity to get ahead early in the count. He didn’t right there. Foul ball. Still a one and two count. Really great change of speeds. He goes off the off speed to the fast ball and the hitter doesn’t know what’s coming next. Ripped to third. Profar sends it to first. That’s the first out in the top of the seventh. Those plays can be tricky. They’re routine, but that doesn’t mean it’s always going to be smooth. He delivered a good play right there. So digging in, Graham Paulie. He’s two for two. There’s a strike. Looks like he sacrificed to pitch right down the middle for tracking and timing. Some good hitters will do that. Swing and a miss. And it’s on two. That front door slider such a devastating pitch. You don’t want to get beat by the inside fast ball. So, you cheat a little bit and then by the time it gets there, it’s out of the swing plane. Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2. The fish trailing by three here in the top half of inning number seven. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Two down. He’s locked in at the plate when he’s using the whole field. He was out in front there. just needs to let the ball travel a little more and his timing will be back on track. Good pitch for the strikeout. And now for the Marlins. Xavier Edwards 0 for three in this one. That misses the zone. And that’s ball one. Pop foul out of play off to the right. Let’s go Atlanta. And it is two and one. Come on. Hammered down the right side but foul. And that’s downstairs and outside. Hit in the air right field. White. He’s got it. And that is out number three. Now pitching. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. Calantrol. And he’s been really shutting down hitters from the right side of the plate this year. Not a lot of hard contact, not a lot of hits, period. So now to the plate for Atlanta. Jonathan Ornelis. He’s already homered in this game. Orlis dives and he can’t hang on. Still able to get it there in time. And that’s out number one on a tough play. He had more time than he thought right there. Probably didn’t have to bareand it, but he made it look nice, that’s for sure. Nick Allen next up for the Braves has grounded out a couple of times just off the outside edge and that is ball one on the ground to the left and it goes just foul And that one lifted in the air center field, drops into the glove and there are two down. Hey man, four pitches, two outs. That is an excellent base. Now batting Juriken Proar. He’s been a great free agent sign. And there’s the strike. just missed. No, that missed. That’s the ball. Two down, nobody on here. The bottom of the seventh. Now this is in the air down the line. Johnston settles under this one. Corrals it and that’s the inning. Welcome back. And a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Pierce Johnson. He’s doing the ball very well overall this season. He’s been really tough to get to. You see that erra and that’s where you love to be. Here’s Johnson. And at the plate for Miami, Kyle Stard picked up an RBI in his last at bat. Still their only run of the game so far. And that one wrapped foul. Got to keep things airtight defensively right here. On your toes, ready to make a play. If you can get this to the ninth with a three-run lead, it should be a W. swings through that one for strike two. Movement in the Atlanta bullpen. Reel Glacius getting ready to go. Cox also getting ready. Liner and this could be trouble. around first and hustling for second and he greetss the new arm from the bullpen with a double. All over that one right there. Nice line drive to the pull side. Met it out front but just stayed through it nice enough and ripped it into the outfield. Now a huge at bat in this game coming up. Runner in scoring position. No outs. And now the DH Augustine Ramirez. First pitch just misses. One ball, no strike. Sters stands at second with no outs. That one misses and the count now two and nothing. All right, and another ball. Get ready for some action here. Good RBI guy at the plate. Runners in scoring position and a hitter’s count. And that’s in for a strike. And that is low for ball four. And that’ll bring the tying run to the plate. Now batting catcher. And now it’s going to be Liam Hicks. One for three. Now that one ripped but foul. with the tying run at the plate and we’re in the top of the eighth. Swings and misses and it’s 0 and two to the right side. Off balance feed. There’s one to first. Not in time. Great effort there. That play won’t be trending on social media later on, but it’s still important to execute it to perfection. This game is a lot harder than it looks. Partner Otto Lopez, the next up for the Marlins, known for his late inning heroics. The last thing he wants is to hit the ball on the ground, but I wouldn’t expect many pitches up in the zone. They’ll be pitching for a double play in this spot. And that one is in the dirt. Ball one. Way to lay off that pitch down. That’s in there. And that is strike one. I think ultimately you want to tie him up, get the ball in on the plate so that he can’t get the barrel to it and hit it to the outfield on the ground and it finds its way through for a hit. Runner from third comes across and it’s an RBI single for two now. Well, there you go. The RBI machine. Another clutch runscoring at bat. Yeah, he’s been so good in these situations. Call it clutch if you want, but his resume speaks for itself. And up next for Miami, Jacob Marcy, lifted in the air down the left side. Ozuna should have it. Puts it away for the out. Now batting number 33. So two down now and here is Eric Wagaman. This is what stat nerds like myself might call a high leverage situation. Yeah, Boo. Not sure what the numbers say, but clearly an at bat that could change the course of this game dramatically. That’s in there. And that’s strike one. Come on. Here we go. Fought off foul. Foul ball. Still 0 and two. Swings and misses. Struck him out. So, one run in the inning on this base hit. It’s now 42. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. And we’re back. And the batter now, Matt Olsen. Matt Olsen. Quantrol back to work. Gets the call and it’s 0 and one. Swang and a miss. That one off the mark and the count is one and two. That’s to third and that’s a fair ball around first. Digging for two. throws to second, not in time. That’s a leadoff double. Well, that’s how you respond. Leadoff man comes up, gets into scoring position. Now, there are several ways that they can get this run across. And next for Atlanta, Drake Baldwin. And that misses and it’s one to0. Runner in scoring position. Nobody out here near the bottom half of the eighth inning. That’s down and in. swings and misses and it’s two and one. Now, this is one of those situations where the pitcher may not really want to deal with the guy in the box and you got to be aware of that. Take your walk. I couldn’t do it, but I think he can. Hot shot to third to first. One gone in the bottom of the eighth. Now batting left fielder Marcel Ozuna. Marcel Ozuna coming up to hit. that pitch in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. Line drive and that’s a base hit into center field and that’s good enough to hold the lead runner at third. Runners now at the corners. Runners at the corners here. One away. And now Michael Harris the second. Rolled to short. Possible two ball. Flips it. One at second onto first. Safe. So they get one. But a really nice try there. I promise you they’re guys that get a little bit faster when they can smell an RBI. That was a possible inning ending double play. Great hustle and he gets rewarded with the RBI because of it. Azie Alby’s up to the plate. There’s a strike. Harris off of first with two away. to third in plenty of time to first and allies is retired and that ends the inning. So they pick up a run on two hits, no errors and a man left through eight full. It’s the Braves five and the Marlins two. back now and on the mound the closer Religius. And we all know about his slider. It’s just filthy, man. And one of the better ones in the game, I’d say. Spin rate’s very high and it just breaks a ton. Easer base hit. Had a good start to the inning. went up there looking to be aggressive and got something he could handle. Just a cookie down the middle. I mean, those are the ones you dream about. Ones in the cage you’re just hoping you get in the ball game. Right down the middle. Not a whole lot of velocity. Right on top of it. Now a chance for Graham Paulie. Ripped on a line and foul ball. Well, the leadoff man gets on. You want to minimize the threat by playing sound defense. Hopefully the pitcher can get a ball on the ground and they can roll him up for two. And that drops in for a strike. That’s off the inside corner. Now one and two and that’s down and away. Got him swinging. Thought it was a pretty good pitch. Top of the strike zone. We’re seeing more fast balls in that location. and hitters, especially with two strikes, have to be ready to pull the trigger. So, up next, Xavier Edwards that clips the zone. That’s strike one. The Glaciius in his 10th season, he features a change up, a fourseamer, a slider, and he works in a sinker. Next offering in there for a strike. And that is strike two. The Braves trying to close out a three-run lead here in the top of the ninth. Maybe a two ball. Five, four, three. And that’s the ball game. A little sigh of relief for the pitcher there. Ending the ball game with a nice double play. You always love when you can get two for one, especially when it wraps up the ball game. Nice win for this team today. And your final score, 52. For Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB The Show, I’m John Shami. We’ll see you soon.
