Paul Skenes Lowers ERA to 1.94 in Win | Reds vs. Pirates Game Highlights (8/7/25)
Pirates tonight. It’s going to be Paul Skeens. When you look at the Pirates schedule, you almost want to circle every fifth day highlighted. This guy is worth the price of admission and a familiar face coming to town as Key Brian Hayes, who was traded last week to the Cincinnati Reds is back now as a visitor here in this ballpark, baseball’s number one pitcher, all Skeens ready to go. This guy is really good. A historic start to his career swing and a miss, he struck him out with a changeup that he’s used a bunch recently. That’s 155 K’s on the season for schemes. That is the hardest to square up changeup in baseball. Matt mclean grounded right side , get a base runner quickly against schemes de La Cruz with mclean on at first and one man out here’s the first pitch to Elliott. He hits a bullet into right. That’s a hit man has to hold it. Second, it gets on Brian Reynolds in a hurry because that ball was whipped into right field and back to back hits for Cincinnati just like you said, Matt, you know, jump on the first thing that you think you can hit two on one out. Austin Hayes at the plate. He’s foul off a number of pitches. This is pitch number nine, little bouncing ball. He’s going to get out of it, double play. How does he do it? Paul Skeens before heading to the mound will turn and point toward his second baseman. The magician Paul Skeates, you know, for Brady Singer. If you look at his numbers this year, he’s nine and eight on average 4.3 or so. He’s given the Reds really exactly what he has done previously in his career. Batting here against the Reds. Nothing, nothing. And now Brian reynolds two for 10 in his career against Brady Singer and for the season batting 2 36 30 pitches driven to left pretty deep Hayes back track clear the deck and anchor down for his 11th and it’s 1 to 0 Pirates in the first inning. Brian reynolds does a great job going the other way with that. That’s not a bad pitch out of third. Brian reynolds sitting on it and showing impressive power out to left center field here at three straight walks have followed the two out swinging home, one of the most batters. He’s walked in a game this season four and that was against the Pirates on May the 21st here at P MC Park. Now without Jam Triola, this is when as a pitcher you were on your own you’ve got to figure out a way to get out of this jam. The 12 pitch line drive up the middle of base hit Cruz scores but Hudson scores soins to third throw to second Triano, lead singer got the first two and a home run has been followed by of walks and a smoke ball up the middle and Treo just banged it right through the middle hard. And Then when he saw that throw go to third base. He took advantage of it and now there’s still two guys in scoring position. Good baserunning. Davis swings skies one way up behind short Ellie back pals and in short center field, he’ll make the catch side retired but the damage is done. Pirates take advantage of three brady singer walks. Pirates have big when you got Paul Skeins on the mound, three runs. That’s all you need. He is 14 to 0 when getting three runs of support in his career. That’s a called third strike 100 miles an hour at the knees. He’s not messing around. Good luck with that right there that freezes him that four fastball on the inner third. Now batting for the Reds third baseman. Number three, key Brian, a nice tribute on the scoreboard and he gives a big wave foul. What a moment. Unbelievable. Pittsburgh is so great ground ball is, he was drafted by the first round. At 15. His entire big league career came as a pirate from 20 until the deadline. A safe at first an infield hit. And so the Reds now with the tying run to the plate two on two out here in the third inning , Elio de La Cruz up there. He singled his first time up. It seems to me that Skeens is having to get five out. He got him, got him to chase. The fastball. Skes are two more reds on the third strike out for Skeens, 2.5 played P MC Park Skeens of 30. So far tonight, it has gotten to the point where you expect greatness to on there. It is the change up four Ks for and so far that change up has been on a way out in front and over the top of it and it down the line and right hit, well, going back on it, the right fielder looks and Reynolds will have to play it off the wall in the second base sliding safely with a one out double for Lux. That is his second career double against Paul Skeens. Now three for six against him. That as far as Paul Skeens is concerned, is considered ownership that’s called third strike outside corner 99 miles an hour. That’s number five for sins in the second out Paul Snes reaction. He was with that one. Exactly what he was trying to do. Throw that fastball down there swing and a miss, he struck him out with a changeup six strikeouts for schemes four scoreless. Let’s give him some more runs. Davis hitless in his last 13 at bats. He was out today. Extra batting practice. There’s a line drive, pull it up the middle of base hit leadoff single for Henry Davis. He was one for his last 40 before that hard single runner goes good pitches grounded to short backhand. De La Cruz only play on a nice play deep in the hole. Davis to second. What a win. Really good job by de La Cruz. You could see that was a deliberate long out throw to steer Boz with davis at second, a strikeout and a ground out to second base. Another base hit for the Pirates. Davis comes around third to score. Horwitz knocks him in four. Nothing. We’ve been talking a lot about Paul Skene and rightfully so, but how about this bucko offense throwing up some runs for him tonight. There is action in the Reds bullpen behind Brady Singer and this is going to be it. Triolo is two for three and Mccutchen stops at second. Now, Isaiah kind male pirates facing the rookie from the Dominican here, Luis May runners at 1st and 2nd. The pitch that’s a chip shot to shallow right. Marte coming on, plays it on the bounce to the he is out with a dime from right and that will end the inning, the biggest throw of his outfield time and he cuts down Mccutchen at home plate a perfect throw because it gave the catcher plenty of chance Trevino had to get out over there and make a nice tag. Went right down there to get the man out there. He struck out seven including de La Cruz in the third inning. Swinging the struck him out 98. That’s number eight. And he basically is looking for two more outs for his to give the Pirates six innings. He swings, It’s a bullet right back up the middle and that’s in the center field for a hit. So Gavin luck will go back into the dugout and I don’t know what the big deal is. Two for three. The team has gotten seven hits off Paul Skes. He’s still pitching a shutout popped up. Center field, Cruz. He will glove it six more shutout innings for the amazing Paul Skeens and he will lead to a standing ovation and a little tip. He’s unbelievable runner at second is going to tag and move up 90 ft. But Friedel’s throw goes to second. Hurwitz does go to third one out. Cruz has stepped into the box 1st and 3rd bouncing ball to the right side. Second baseman have one play and that’s the first and that out is recorded and Cruz gets the ribbing as Horwitz scores to make it 50 cam Sanders who made his major league debut the other night out on the mound following Paul Skene six innings of seven hit shutout. Baseball drive toward center field, Cruz. Going back, Cruz. Oh, what a pretty play to make the catch my gosh, just galloping into the right center gap makes the catch as he crosses the warning track. Who can track him down like that? Yeah, that was special right there. O’neil Cruz covered a ton of ground lead five, 2 to 2 runner at first base for the Pirates. Henry Davis with a single back in the fourth inning high drive to left field. Way back goes Hayes to the and the his fifth seven nothing Pirates. That’s some really big insurance runs for the Pirates here. That’s great to see. No one works harder. I mean, this guy, he’s been in a big slump. He’s a good hitter and he’s shown it tonight. Three more outs to get Kyle Nicholas in charge of doing that. Pirates lead seven nothing high fly ball to center back is Cruz back pedals in front of the track. He has it. Raises the jolly Roger. The Pirates shut out the Reds. What a good all around win for the Bucks to start this series. They win seven to nothing over the Reds tonight.
The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Cincinnati Reds 7-0 at PNC Park on August 7, 2025. Paul Skenes struck out eight in six scoreless innings, while Bryan Reynolds and Henry Davis homered.

Fire Ben Cherington. Pay Paul Skenes. ❤️🔥🍻
Nice moment for Hayes.
They should pay Paul with stock shares of the team. He could then PLAY his way to OWNING THE PIRATES.
Skenes is insane man
What an excellent game for the Pirates!!💛🖤💛👏👏👏
Cool lights on the Clemente bridge.
Paul gets credit for everything and I love it 😂
Nice win. Still it is so sad the number 1 pitcher in the MLB has a losing record. Please sell the team.😢
Give Paul 4 y 100m fully guaranteed so he won't lose any free agency time, and he will feel appreciated.
SKENES 😍
Skenes is MUST SEE TV. In this lost season I tend to watch the Pirates 1-2 times a week. Guess which games I watch?
and no one talking about Nathan Eovaldi and his sub 2.00 era
Paul skenes is always taken out after 6 innings . Why?? Hes to good be be taken out that early .
Cincinnati should be embarrassed! Losing to a last place team. Disgraceful!
