This just adds ANOTHER wrinkle to a TOUGH situation…
This just adds another wrinkle to an already tough situation as the Habs Decor has now resurfaced as the biggest question this offseason with the 2C question still being in mind. The future of the Decor has been discussed at length and recently on BPM sports. One person said that they truly believe that Habs management has one specific player over the other in terms of the future outlook for the Decor and how a guy like Arborji could very well get a lot of interest in trade talks. be able to revisit this Arborjackey trade talk and some Jaden Strubal stuff as well. But speaking of the Decor, David Rybacher has been making some noise as he was participating in a charity game where he was higher up in the lineup that I think some people would have expected and also a somewhat unfortunate update on the Mason McTavish front. All of that coming up on this episode of Habs Digest. And you know, we’re just going to dive straight into it. And you know, we’re going to rip the band-aid off here, Jesse, because we’ve been talking a lot about Mason McTavish. And it was actually Anthony DeMarco from Daily Face Off that recently said Montreal was keeping tabs on Mason McTavish. However, ultimately he said, “I don’t think the Ducks will move McTavish.” My best guess is that a bridge deal ultimately gets done. Now, the interesting thing here is that it is a bridge deal. It seems like McTavish, Jesse, from what we’re hearing, McTavish wants long-term in Anaheim, but it looks like Anaheim wants a bridge deal. And if you’re McTavish, hey, okay, maybe he’ll accept a bridge deal. Again, if you’re accepting a contract that reportedly is not your first choice, it still lends to the trade rumors for him. Now, if he does sign a bridge deal, I’m not saying the Habs are, you know, it’s impossible to trade for him. It does seem for the moment that the trade talks have cooled down a bit. Everyone’s keeping tabs and might get a bridge deal done. But Jesse, again, like as much as maybe bad news for the immediate trade future, I think that if he does settle for a bridge deal, when reports say he wants a longerterm deal, could still indicate something could happen in the future. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, and you can definitely see why they want to keep him, but Josh, like I’m not giving up hope on this. G Hughes isn’t until the fat lady sings or in this situation. He really signs here going forward because we know how he could be really just a tremendous ad to this team going forward here. But again, you have to feel like Patique and Kent Hughes have talked at least once about this situation, Josh. And if this deal doesn’t go down, you have to feel like a big part of the reason for that is is that Kent Hughes did not want to meet the asking price of a David Brian Bucker plus, you know, maybe first round pick or of Michael Page and a first round pick because Kent Hughes has the assets to make this deal done. Like that’s one thing we need to be sure about. It’s just maybe more of a situation where he doesn’t want us to overpay. Josh, I clearly see though once this situation does get sorted, KQ is potentially pivoting to another option, whether that’s kind of a bet going forward, I see that being more of like a placeholder if we miss out on more of that long-term situation with McDeavic until really Ha can come in. Uh, but the thing right now is that like there could be a lot of pressure on this situation. Like if either New Hook or Doc aren’t performing as well as they are like early on this season, even if we don’t get that two season before like the 2C before the season begins, I really feel like if they’re not performing, Ken’s not going to hesitate to make that move sooner rather than later. Yeah, it’s it’s such an interesting thing because it is going to happen. It’s just a matter of when. Unless, again, unless Kirby Do turns into some magical amazing Tucy. I like I’m not holding out hope for that. I don’t think anyone is. Would love it. unlikely, but at this point like you know something’s gonna happen eventually. Will it be McTavish? I don’t know. The thing is though, again, Jesse, like I feel like Montreal would be one of these places that’s willing to sign him long term. Maybe strange that Anaheim doesn’t want to. Maybe they want to evaluate the rest of their forwards. But again, the fact they want they want him on a bridge deal is interesting because sometimes it is the player who wants the bridge deal. But hey, we’ll just have to wait and see. But let us know your thoughts on the McTavish situation down below as we got to move on to some current Havs prospects. And you brought his name up and that’s David Rhyback. Now I pulled this from Reddit as you can see as you can see here. Rhycker in a charity hockey game today in Zurich between Swiss, Austrian and German players and also a French player. I think I saw Alexander Texier there but you can see Rybacher on the bench. But I want to just highlight this roster first off. Holy crap. What a what a charity roster this is. Your centers are Kishir Stutsler Rossi and Pew Sudter. Unbel your fourth line has Neato on it. But the big point here on defense Jesse is David Rybacher there on the second pairing. And you know, I know it is just a charity game, but William Lagasson, Habs, the legend, by the way. I I think he was part of that original Kulak deal if I’m not mistaken. Landed Lane Hudson. So, oh, look at that. Um, but also Leon Bell there on that third pairing. Both guys who have played in the NHL and David Rybacher up there with JJ Moser on the second pairing is really interesting. And again, Rybacher, I think, just gets so many cool opportunities. First of all, it’s so awesome to see him skating on this like really good roster with a bunch of NHL players everywhere getting second pairing honors. Now, whether that actually means, oh my god, he’s second pairing over Bashelle. That means he’s better right now. Who knows? But at the same time, it’s really cool to see Habs players in these environments and getting some extra minutes, getting some love in the lineup at least that, you know, especially for a guy like him who hasn’t played that much. We’re still trying to evaluate him. It sure seems like a lot of his contemporaries seem to value him pretty highly. That’s one of the big things, of course, with all the injuries that David Robbucker’s had. Getting really on the ice is just so key for him right now. even with just the charity game and he’s just one of many Haps players right now that are just having such an active summer again. We’re seeing the hype videos getting released looking impressive Josh in in training and it’s really I’ve maintained like as we’re seeing him develop especially last year in the HL where we saw the offense and we know he’s smooth but again like that ability also be able to protect the net and and be physical. Um, again, when we’re looking with David Savar off the team and who’s going to kind of fill that role, Arbert Jack guy, it’s like don’t rule out that David Ryaner might got a little bit more of a dog than you think and he actually I feel Josh like he’s better than a lot of Habs fans actually realize that he is in the moment. Like I feel like this guy has the potential to really surprise us. Like some people think it’s maybe vanilla and his ceiling isn’t that high. I think he’s got a higher ceiling than most here going forward and I’m just really impressed to see what he’s going to be able to do here. Um, again, amazing like just looking at the level of the competition that he is playing with. Again, if we could kind of just, it’s not saying everything, but this is just a good look for him going forward that he’s invited to this level of games like it’s going to show that he’s getting that respect from his peers and I think that respect is certainly going to go down to the common fan, you know, much more regularly very soon. Yeah, absolutely. Is that better check in that does he anyway? you know, but like Kira Schmid down there as well. Really, really cool stuff. You’re absolutely right. The love from his contemporaries is awesome. And I’m just excited to see what he can do. Again, the pairing right behind Yonas Seanthaler and Moider, two very well-established NHL players, with Cider being one of the better defenseman in the league. So, just really, really cool. And I think you’re right, Jesse. Not only is his ceiling, I think, higher than people give it credit for, his floor seems to also be very high. So, leave some love for our boy David down below. and what you think he’s going to end up doing this season. But again, Jesse, when it comes to the decor, like we alluded to earlier, there are a lot of question marks right now. And especially around that final lefty spot as we’re looking at guys like Arbor Jackeye and well, I should go to the defense here. Arbor Jackie and you don’t even see Jaden Stubble here in Puck Pedias things, but again, it’s Jackie and Strugel fighting for that last spot because as of this moment, before any trades go down, Madison Dobson, Ghoulie Hudson, Carrier, all locks, at least in my eyes, to be part of this opening night roster, right? And then it’s down to Jackie and Strugel. And recently on BPM Sports, link down below if you want to go check it out. JP Barrol said this. Arbor Jackie is indispensable to the Canadians, especially in a playoff run. He’s a player who brings a physical dimension that no one else on the team does. And if you put him on the market tomorrow morning, there would be 31 clubs calling to inquire about his services. Don’t forget Jesse, teams have offered first round picks for Jackie. We have said no. But the Canadians management likes Jaden Stubel as a hockey player much more. Now again, this is I think more so Bertchron’s opinion and I but I don’t necessarily think he’s totally wrong and he goes the Canadians management considers Strugel much more reliable defensively, much better at jump starting the offense. He’s in the Canadians plans. It’s as simple as that. And Marte St. Louie I’m convinced would agree with me and I wonder if I agree with this Jesse because when it comes down to these two it feels like the age old dilemma. We’re seeing people toss out different ideas for Jackie maybe play him at forward just to keep him on the team. It’s going so far as to see that, right? Because we want to keep both. But this question is really interesting. And I would tend to agree that Stroo seems to be the guy that’s more relied upon, but Jackie has that that X factor, pardon the pun, not really. Like that brings it to games. And so to hear now, like Jackie probably has more trade value. And if the Habs do see Struggle as more of a fit long term, I don’t know. I don’t see Jackie being traded, but something has to give. And I’m starting to stress out over what it is. It’s one of many dynamic situations that the Habs have both at forward at the 2C position. A little bit of a fluid situation as well as on defense. Like who’s going to really take that six spot? Because there’s three guys, but you could argue like D like Adam Angstrom like how far is he really away from being an NHL player? Like in my opinion, not far. And you really want to respect that and he’s shown really great development. The last thing you want to do is stifle at really stifle at this point by kind of missing out his opportunity when he’s really so close. So like Josh, we’ve talked about this before even quite recently on the show um that Jack’s value is really through the roof um throughout the league and like it’s really question of like how long is Kent Hughes gonna keep saying no. Now I hope eventually and like like I hope like like hopefully like just that he keeps saying no. Um because I for me in my opinion jackeye is more important than Strugel. And again this was very well highlighted during the playoffs when as much as I like Strugel in that consistent game I just find it could be more replaceable in that third pairing than what Jack eye brings. There’s just more of a demand for that reason. We start off with Strugle and I like him a lot and I think he he brings a lot to the team and again maybe plays to the whole example of certain guys that bring you to the playoffs and certain guys that get you through the playoffs. and Jack eye in my opinion if we were starting with them from game one this series would have looked differently against the Washington Capitals I even believe that even a good chance we could have won even though we’re much younger team I’ve really contended that from the beginning and of course we saw the impact it was obvious right away from that Arbor jack I brought it’s in fact you could argue what they needed like the team was like ignited once he got into the lineup you really want to bring that momentum much earlier you have to feel like Martin San Louise is going to learned from that mistake, dare I say, next year going into the playoffs by really having Arbor Jackeye in the lineup. I don’t think we can argue what he really brought to the lineup there. Um, at the same time, it’s like it’s really for that reason. Like, why is Arbor Jackie like so effective in the playoffs? He’s an agitator. Like, it’s not him alone that like when he plays that roles that team have success. You can really I think of like the Florida Panthers and a Sam Bennett a guy who elevates his play in the playoffs and those around him arbor jackeye completely cut from the same cloth. That’s why when we’re making these very key like decisions coming forward, although I do contend that a Masterson trade is necessary given positionally where he would best be suited, his value, but also the tertiary effect of how he kind of opens up that spot for some of those young guys, which I think is the changing of guard, which is just a larger theme that Habs have been doing right now. I think that really kind of makes sense, but Arbor Jack is one of those guys I think you’re going to want to keep around over the long term. Yeah. I I just I wonder right like you said I hope we keep saying no but I wonder what teams will start offering for it like he is a third pairing defenseman the advanced analytics don’t love him but there’s stuff that advanced analytics can’t see like it’s just that’s just the way it is there there are X factors like I keep saying that but like it’s true and so again hearing what JPro is saying it’s like I I don’t totally disagree with the idea that Jaden Strubel fits objectively the mode of how the Montreal Canadians want to play hockey better. I don’t necessarily disagree with that. But where I kind of disagree is that like, you know, uh maybe that could mean that he’s in the plans longer term over Arbor because I think that there’s just stuff that we can’t quantify with numbers. We got to hear from you guys. What do you think about what JP Barrett said? Do you agree that Stroo’s in the long-term plans and maybe Arbor is not? Could you see one of these guys get traded? And if so, which one is it? We’d love to hear from you cuz something’s got to give. But that’ll do it for this episode of Habs Digest. And hey, if you enjoyed, leave a like, comment. NOOOO ! trade Mr WiFi Blackeye Xhekaj!! arbour..
We need Arber! His contributions are actually huge even if they don't directly reflect on the scoresheet.
You still need toughness in 2025 on the ice, and Arby brings that in spades.
Struble is an asset, Xhekaj is a game shaker, someone who can change the outlook of the game and tilt it in his teams favour
If they sign 8, arber is gone or moved to 4th line winger their is no other option.
Jake Evans no one has mentioned should slip in too#2 center. I dont remember him playing in top 6 but he had in his younger years and dished the puck quite nicely in Notre Dame.
PROBLEM: Marty McFly does not like WIFI !
PROOF? Matheson, much more experienced and one of Marty's favorites. can make error after error, turnover after turnover and never miss a shift (let alone a game). WIFI maskes one turover that leads to opponent goal….in the press box for weeks. On top of that – Marty didn't seem to mind watching his team get manhandled by the Caps in the playoffs. IMHO, coach McFly will not lead the Habs to the promised land
I would love to see Arber as a 4th line defensive winger. Having D sitting in the Box 10 min a game hurts the team. As a winger, he would be smash faces all he wants.
I hope Arber can be efficient in PK. A third pair defenseman should be able to play those important minutes.
I can see both getting moved eventually and Reinbacher and Engstrom being in Montreal
Haven't they been paying attention to what wins in tge playoffs? They need the Sheriff.
X TO THE WING 💪🏼4 line
I'm with Jesse, the Habs need Xhekaj and he should've started the playoffs. There's also more to his game than just toughness. I also like Strubble and think he too can bring a more physical edge to his game. Simple fix, find a taker for Matheson.
We haven’t had any significant injuries for a while in which case they might both be used. Injuries will happen.
Struble is without a doubt the better player. But having both Arber and Florian in the line in a few years will be huge in the playoffs.
Habs should experiment with Xhekaj playing as a forward IMO.
Matheson and Anderson plus whatever round pick for McTavish. I love Anderson but we have Florian coming up and Reinbacher and Engtrom will easily replace the Math man. Wifi need to stay bar none!! This would take us very far I believe.
I've been a habs fan ever since I can remember. I recall the 70's cups as a kid, so I've seen plenty of players come and go. The way some of you talk about Arbor, makes it sound like he is the difference maker for the whole season. You people need to give your head a shake!! We are talking about an undrafted 24 year old who doesn't play good shutdown D and hasn't shown much offensive upside. So when it comes down to it, what happens when Reinbacher is ready to go and you have Matheson on the third pairing, who is Arbor replacing? Hutson, Guhle, Matheson??????????
si tu veux pas metre wifi a def fait le jouer sur la 4e ligne .fait monter son frere , on se fera plus donner des coups salo
If 31 teams want him why the fuck would we trade him?
Arbor worked his ass off… not being drafted and all. Dropping Arbor will be a HUGE mistake.
Stubble’s a better defenseman and makes for an excellent trade piece. Package him and Matheson together and maybe another piece for a 2C. A defense pairing of Matheson and Struble makes sense and with Matheson expiring it gives you some flexibility if you do or don’t want to extend him.
Struble is unforgettable player
if they get rid of Jackeye I'm done with the Hbas., been a fan all my life 50 years… this team is done for me if they trade him
Arber is better, case closed..struble i dont care for and could care less if they got rid of him..he's soft for his size and they would do a big mistake letting Arber go..MSL better get his head out his ass …your team cant be made up of all skill players.. the season is not what wins you the cup..getting throughthe playoffs with guys like Arber..he has a hard on for Arber and he has to get rid of that attitude against him because we saw what Jaden did in the olayoffs..F-all
I believe that once Arber regains his confidence he’ll be a right banger! Can you imagine Arby as a Flyer? I’d worry about all the Habs he’d put on the disabled list.
I think Reinbacher is a hybrid between Savy and Matheson.
I see him before WiFi.
At the same time I also see WiFi in the starting 6.
And that's gonna happen after Matheson's contract expires or he got eventually traded.
Latest 26/27 we'll see both if them changing with Struble and Engstrom.
Go Habs Go
Arber has more heart than talent, and hockey is a business.
Reinbacher should have a full season with Laval
Hage will never get traded.. his family is from Montreal and it was Hages dream to be a Hab.. get that out of your head
I refuse to follow ant podcast that says trading Arbour is a thing! Did you watch the playoffs?
Seeing Laine on the 4th line is really disturbing ,a top 6 guy on the 4th line wow,if he's going to score 30 or more goals, it won't happen on the 4th line, please put him on the 2nd line were he belongs, and trying bulduc as a center is better than dach, iput dach on the 4th line
We need the sheriff to protect Demidov
Struvle brings an element of toughness, a good skater and can move puck. Put him on wing with Florian and Anderson. Bring in reinbacher and have him 6-7 defenceman with arbor.
Xhekaj / Struble – This isn't close. We're talking about 3rd pairing D's. The minutes aren't the same as the first 2 pairings, in addition 3rd pairings normally aren't going up against the top lines. Xhekaj wins by default with the "X" factor in addition to improving his overall defensive responsibilities as a 3rd pairing. There's not enough important minutes to justify Struble knocking Xhekaj out of town.
For some reason St Louis has Xhekaj on the shortest leash I've ever seen a player on.. Matheson can blatant brain fart 4 times a period but Arber makes one bad move and he's riding the bench or in the stands.. In the beginning I used to say Xhekaj was creative and it worked more often than not.. Now that creativity is nowhere to be seen.. I'm not sure what the fuck Marty is doing with this guy.. But if there's something I don't like about the coach it's how he's handing Arber.
Prediction: Arber stays and Reinbacher is moved for MacTavish.
0:29 is 3rd pair, really D-Core??
2:50 he said few months back it was time to overpay for the right piece
11:52 Arber needs to play offence 4th line
Arber is one of one, a diamond 💎 in the rough. Simply put he can NOT be traded and must remain on the 3rd pairing, what he brings in loyalty, competitiveness and toughness is rare. He definitely requires a little refinery in certain areas but he can definitely become a David Savy and become a defensive dynamo with the mentality of a rabid pit bull 😊
I’ll be upset if they move Arber. We need his grit.
Jesse is right also why not try arbor or struble on a 4th line ?
Xhekaj > Struble
