Reds vs. Pirates Game Highlights (8/9/25) | MLB Highlights

It’s a great night for baseball here from the banks of the north shore on the Allegheny River. It’s Bucko Luau weekend and the Pirates are taking on the Reds here in game three. The Pirates have taken the first two games of the series and you got to have good vibes to win the first three games of any series. And tonight we’ve got that for you here with Bucko Luau taking them out looking to bring some fire of his own out there. The walks Friedel on four pitches, one for four last night , three hits in eight at bats in this series swing and a miss struck him out with a 93 mile an hour. Slider Cruz standing in runner goes, it’s taken for a strike throw down to second base is not going to get him. But the strikeout looking at Cruz in scoring position for and it’s a line drive to left field coming on and making the catch. Did he hold on? He did Tommy Pham that sinking liner trouble with the sun about shoe top high and held on as he went down to the ground. Heck of a play. Kevin looks comes to play leading off. Second inning, 12 swing and a miss went right back to it 93 miles an hour. It is. It’s unhittable right now. Third strikeout for Ashcraft, here’s Spencer Steer lifted to left center Pham. Fighting the sun could not see it falls in front of him. I think he had a play on that. If he could see the ball on contact, that’s a hit for steer. I think that he, he’s thrown his glove up to the frustration right there because he knows he probably should have had that ball swing. And a miss struck him out with a fastball. He struck out for the first seven red leg. A line drive caught by the shortstop and that’s pretty easy. Leo Peguero broken bat and that’s it for the Reds Reds. The first start back in the rotation. Nick Martinez and Andrew Mccutchen. He walked him bouncer up the middle mclean on the back hand has to hit the back fire to first up the line. Nick Gonzalez who is quick reaches on the fielder’s choice. Come on, Joey swing of the Miss Martinez strikes him out with the change up. What a good pitch right here swinging a bouncing ball to, he’s in gloves and zips it over to first and plenty of time to get that. Does it. The Pirates in has thrown as many as 52 pitches in an outing this year with the Pirates. But remember he was a starting pitcher in the minors that got Friedel as he crumples down immediately, Terry Francona and head athletic trainer, Sean mcqueen. He start up the steps. Friedel hobbled tries to make his way to first and he says he’s all right. He’ll stay in there. He’s on for matt mclean who struck out swinging first time, a slider away, cracked on the ground and threw base hit Friedel shuts it down at second single from mclean two on as a bouncing ball to first Horowitz turns throws to second for one. They won’t try for a double play and that was the right move as be held on to it. The middle man two outs. So many of the corners for miguel on Duar bouncing ball on a couple of hops to short and the underhand toss peguero de Gonzalez forces de la Cruz at second for the final out. Starts off the bottom of the third for the Pirates. Nothing, nothing pitch. And this is in the air deep to right going back is Marte and will bounce onto the track and up against the wall and Frilo into second base with a stand up double Spencer Horowitz at the plate. There’s a line drive base hit to left field hitting over 300 at home after that hit to left 1st and 3rd. Nobody out in the third right away. Launches one to center Triolo back to tag and that sack fly gives the Pirates a one lead Reds down a run. Braxton Ashcraft already a career high in strikeouts is next out. He’ll set a career high in innings strike three called. Got him looking with a back door slider. Luck standing there in disbelief. Great pitch though from Braxton Ashcraft. Spencer steers up ground ball into left field, a base hit and he’s two for two and that’s going to be it for him. That will be his last pitch of the game. Don Kelly Pirates manager is out. Ashcraft will hand him the baseball and a pat on the back from the skipper and a nice ovation for Braxton Ashcraft. Kenski making his 23rd appearance. 411. Er A thanks. That’s just here. It is. Hit it 97 right down the middle Marte lined to short his first time bounce to third. Tough play past the back hand of Triolo. Steer through second after and it kicks corner flame is on for steer. He rips around, he’ll score a just fair double for Noel V Marte. The first extra bagger for the Reds plates. A run. It’s tied at one. He’s got to make him feel awfully good to be able to drive a run in, guided it right inside the bag at third and he just kept it inside that side wall. Here’s dj. Friedel ball bounced past the pitcher. Shortstop peguero ranging far to his left lines over there and throws out Friedel Matt mclean has singled. You struck out popped it up shallow right and out on the grass is the second baseman Gonzalez makes the catch two way. Here is Ellie de La Cruz swing and a miss blew it past him at 98 power baseball right there. 123 for the Reds and for Carmen Magin, the run that came across was charged to Ashcraft. He’s got that scoreless inning streak continued trying to extend it against Miguel And-jar to start the sixth inning. It’s back to right center. That’s going to get down to the gap all the way to the wall and Dohar up to second base, he gets it enough in the strike zone or close enough to the zone that And-jar who’s protecting the plate, he’s just gonna hack at it and he uses his hands very well. Drives it into right center field. I like that. Swing a lot ground ball to the shortstop that will do it. That will move the runner and the throw by peguero gets lux but he gets on, do hard to third one out. Come to that breaking ball. Look like the knuckle curveball from Carmen. See how he can run Triolo. Nice job by Minsky stranding the leadoff double seventh inning 11. Here’s Noel Marte that is last over third. That is a fair ball extra bags again after it, Marte up to second base, a second double for the reds right fielder. Brian Hayes at the plate has lined to right bounced to second chopper coming in. The second baseman Gonzalez will throw on to first. Hayes gets the job done. He moves Novel Marte to third with the left handed Friedel to up the lefty bar. He’s been ready to. Kelly makes the is slapped to right center head. Long time. That’s a catch but that will be a run sack. Fly RB. I Marte scores the Reds lead their first of the night. It’s two one. What a catch by Reynolds. And just to think he would pop up and throw to the plate even though he had no chance. Sacrifice fly. The Reds lead 21. This is the first time I have Martinez in 1/7 inning since his first outing of July in Boston bouncing ball stabbed by de La Cruz gets to his feet throws to first past steer. And so Gonzalez is aboard. Temper was a fine play by de La Cruz but when he got up, it really came down and threw the ball almost side arm, I would say over there and I think he came off on top of the ball on the release grounded double play ball. De La Cruz. Find mclean on the first catcher run, double play 64 three. Look at Martinez. Yes. So now can Martinez go seven for the first time since he flirted with the no hitter against the Padres broke his bat rolled to shore in his first game back in the Reds rotation seven strong from Nick Martinez. But now the Reds have a 2 to 1 lead here in the late innings. Remember the Pirates down the same deficit before reynolds and the two run triple in the eighth inning last night will have to come from behind late again here this evening. And just like last night, Tony Santiano, come on for the eighth in a man on for reynolds. He was the hitting hero in the eighth inning last night, grounded to first knocked down the back. Works around the two out walk a scoreless eighth inning with Cam Sanders making his third appearance of his major league career in this season. Walk two strikeouts, three innings of work. Marte swings and he hits a bullet to the right center field gap that’s going to get down Cruz over to cut it off. Marte is going for two anyway and he’ll make it in there. He almost came off the bag but he stays on throughout the tag from peguero, but it’s a one out double for Marte. Here’s Brian Hayes and there’s a fly ball to center sending Cruzz back a couple of steps. They’ll make the catch runner at second will tag but not attempt to advance as that throw comes in the third base. A strike. It was a close line right to the third baseman Jared Triolo. Here’s TJ Friedel swing and a miss that was a fastball. I can see that with my own eyes , we go to the bottom of the ninth. Pirates need at least a run. Now, the Pirates came back in the eighth inning last night. Now they’re going to try and do it in the bottom of the ninth tonight against Emilio Pagan. Trailing 21 o’neil Cruz will be the leadoff man for the Buckholz batting average is just 163 versus Pagan and he walked him, we’ll take that too leadoff walk and especially with the speed of o’neill Cruz on the base paths, they’re going to have to pay him attention. Be nice if they get caught up with o’neill at first base and whether he’s going to steal or anything like that, make a mistake to Andrew Mccutchen here high in the air to left Cruz tagging Fraley has it no advance with one out. Cruz at first. Iris trailing 21 and here is nick Gonzalez lined to short cut by Ellington Cruz over an alert tossed by de La Cruz as he cuts down Cruz and the Reds win 2 to 1. Cincinnati gets off the Schneid, I mean, hit hard by Gonzalez to right at de La Cruz and he’s the only one out there with the kind of arm to get the other Cruz o’neil Cruz before he can get back to first base.

  1. Braxton Ashcraft is a problem. Seems like the Pirates are monitoring his innings very closely but man the stuff and command are both so crisp.

  2. Only reason I'm here is to see if Hayes or Cruz hit anything good. Idc who wins. I'm 54 and can't remember the Pirates ever being good. I'm a fan of Francona so I follow the Reds. I want Hayes to go on a tear and hit like a hr a game for the next 20 games. Love that guy.
