Let’s start making you some money with this matchup between the San Francisco Giants and the Washington Nationals. For the San Francisco Giants, it’s Justin Verlander listed as the starter while the Washington Nationals will counter with McKenzie Gore. And the sorry, the San Francisco Giants with Justin Berlander on the mount have not been a profitable team this season. They’re just 5-4 as a team in Burlander’s 19 starts this season. 1-8 in his last nine, three-13 in his last 16 starts. And that’s with Flander not pitching all that terribly in that nine start stretch. He has an RA just over four. And that’s going back to middle of June where he came back from injury. In the 16 start stretch, a sub4 erra, 3.87. Not terrible. And if you look at his last three starts, Verlander a 0.60 erra, but a 3.71 fipp suggests that there is some luck to be had for an erra that low over that three start stretch. But even then, the Giants are just one and two in those outings because either the bullpen let it get away or the offense wouldn’t back him up. And now, you know, you face McKenzie Gore, who has been a solid left-handed option for the Nationals for the better part of his Nationals tenure. And the Giants in the last two weeks against lefties are hitting just 202. However, they have a sub 15% strikeout rate, which in the twoe stretch is third best in baseball. A decent sample size of played appearances. Now, the team OPS numbers and the isolated power numbers could be worlds better, especially the isolated power numbers, which are also third worst in baseball, but I still think that the Nationals can or sorry, the Giants can get to Mackenzie Gore here as the Nationals haven’t necessarily been able to back up Mackenzie Gore. And when they have, it’s sort of been too little too late because you look at Mackenzie Gore’s four starts since the All-Star break. He’s gotten absolutely absolutely torched. You know, he hasn’t made it more than five and a third innings of work. He’s given up six or more runs in three of those four starts. He’s taken the loss personally in all four of those outings. And when you just look at those at the at the numbers, 0 and4 in the second half of the season, a 13.21 erra, six home runs allowed. He’s issued more walks than strikeouts. It’s just not cutting it for me. And the Giants have started to find some offense again as this is a team that’s kind of making I don’t say a lastditch effort to try to make the postseason but trying to keep themselves relevant in the wildard race. You know, right now they’re four games back of the final wildcard spot and I think that they can back up Justin Verlander enough off of Gore to get themselves a win in this one. The Nationals for me still have one of the shakiest bullpens in all of baseball. The Giants have a clear edge there, too. So, I’m going to lean towards laying the juice here with the Giants, and that’s going to be my free pick.
