NBA LIVE! Los Angeles Lakers vs New York Knicks | Aug 10, 2025 | Lakers vs Knicks Live 2K25

He talked about his ambition at the end of the floor, saying, “I just want to be able to guard one through five. That’s my goal. I’m going to show my opponent why he is not supposed to be on the same floor as me.” Brian, plenty of confidence. And the talent to deliver, Ally, for sure. Thank you. So, let’s take a look at the Los Angeles Lakers starting lineup. They’ve got Luca Donuch. Ruy Hachimura is out there with DeAndre Aiden. Then there’s LeBron James and it’s Reeves in at the shooting guard position. And for New York, Jaylen Brunson is out there with Male Bridges. Then it’s Carl Anthony Towns. Then it’s Josh Hart and it’s Anobi in at the three. And these are two highflying teams, Grant. Loads of athleticism on the floor. What’s it like to play in a game like this? Oh, BA, it is the best. It’s so much fun. I mean, of course, here we’re expecting lots of fast breaks, dunks, just in general a lot of action. And of course, the fans love these type of games. I can’t wait. Now, here’s Anobi outside. Hart around the back and lays it in. Nice. Oh, he passes to the wide open man. Bridges developing some team chemistry. Here’s James. Uses the glass on the layup. Hey, take it right to the defense. Not a bad way to start this game. Brunson against Donic. Pass to Towns. Fires the three. Gets the three to fall. Ah, the versatility of Towns unleashing his outside game and presenting all sorts of problems for the defense. Now here’s Dantic. Back to Aiden James with the ball. Five on the clock. Oh, from deep. Not going to go that time. So New York will take it the other way now. Here’s Towns. Doesn’t go that time. Aton with the defensive effort. Defense is tough as it comes right there. He’s a hard man to deny when he gets the ball to the rim. The defensive effort was lacking a bit, but hey, give him credit for finding a weakness there. Just really smart basketball and exploiting whatever holes that he’s seeing right now in the defensive squad. Now, here’s Bridges. Outside Brunson up and over Donic. Brunson misses. Well, that’s the only way to take him out of his comfort zone from that range. Get right up in the jersey. Force him off the spot. Here’s James and the foul is called. He missed it. So, he’s got a couple of free throws coming his way. Well, for the Knicks, what’s it going to take to bring them back to the glory days? Oh, that’s a loaded question, BA. But first of all, a superstar would certainly help. They haven’t really had one for quite some time. If they can either develop or attract an elite all-star player, that would be a start to turning this New York franchise around and becoming possibly a contender. ties it up and his next one could give him the lead. And the thing you marvel about with LeBron James is just the consistency of his excellence. He’s been a top five player in the league now for two decades. And that one falls. That puts him up one point in the game. Now the Knicks have gone just two for four from the floor outside Hart. Pass to Bridges. Here’s Brunson. Oh, great D that time from Donic. Here’s Reeves. He’s guarded by Bridges. Here’s Aimura. and he knocks down the 10-footer. Feel like Hachimura’s shooting is improving right before our eyes. Brunson finds Anobi. Here’s Hart. Hatimura covering. Bridges passes to Hart and he got the whistle on the way up. So, he’ll be headed to the line for a pair. And Josh Hart listed at 65, but he plays much bigger than that. He does. I mean, just so strong on defense in the post. BA often will guard up a position and his rebounding numbers show he plays well above his listed height. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. He misses the free throw. A former first round pick, Josh Hart, really trying to get some of his mojo back in terms of shooting the ball from distance. He still scores it with consistency, though. That’s off as well. So, he misses both. And but Josh Hardbrev able to stretch the floor for these guys. Well, playing the two and the three, maybe a little undersized, but took more three-pointers last year, trying to gain some confidence there. Man, if he’s at 35 36%, that’s going to open a lot for him and this team. And a moment to look at the scoring approach in terms of where the points are coming from here for the Lakers. Ever since this game started, they’ve been attacking on the inside, looking for ways to bust up the defense and get high percentage looks. So much good energy and flow tonight. And that is really come out of great ball movement. Guys have been open and as soon as they are, they get the ball. And here’s Brunson. Bridges outside. Donic against Brunson. Pass to Towns. Outside Brunson. Up and over. Donic and the Knicks miss again. His touch from mid-range. That’s almost always good. That won’t shake his confidence. To the paint. Ooh, anticipated the pass. It’s a turnover. Just over three and a half minutes gone here in the first. Back to Towns. Looking to end the drought. He can’t get that one to fall. So the Lakers will take it the other way. Kicks it to Donic. Let’s go with a three. It’s rebounded by New York. Brunson against Donic. Brunson passes to Towns and again the Knicks missing. The Lakers have gone four of six in the first quarter. Free throw line jumper and again no good by the Lakers. Out to Bridges and there’s a 3second violation. The Lakers in the lead. Donic with it. Well, quiet so far offensively, searching for his first points of the game. Perfect timing to rise up and challenge the shot inside. Yeah, not easy to do there. And and that’s a guy that you can tell takes every possession defensively very seriously. Here’s Reeves. Pass to James. Hey, puts up a three. New York has gone one of two from three-point land so far. Park from long range. James with the rebound. Los Angeles has gone 0 for three from downtown. And again, the Lakers no good. That might not be the shot they want him taking, even with the D backing off. I like seeing Towns be aggressive from deep. He knows his teammates want him to shoot from there. And the Lakers call time here. And think about this. In an era of load management, Male Bridges is a rarity. He has never missed a game in college or the NBA. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Now Here’s Donic. Well, he hasn’t scored yet, but I’m sure that’ll change. Pass to Reeves. Clock at six. That one falls. Great setup by Donic. Donic has got his third assist of the night. Few guys distribute better than Donic. He’s got good instincts for when and where to send the ball. Fantastic replay. We just saw of the mobile one drive. You’re toasting the defense and getting in close. They’ll take possessions like that one all day. Now here’s Brunson. Here’s Towns who’s covered by Eaton. Towns passes to Brunson. Up and over Donic. The put back. It’s good on the put back and just crashes the glass with effort and intensity. I mean, how do you box a guy out like Towns? Here’s Donic. Aimura. Oh, nice fake, but the layup’s off the mark. He creates such a great opportunity right at the rim and he just can’t get it to go even with the defense not really a factor. Just owning the painted area. If it’s working, no need to change. Donic outside. Pass to Reeves. Machimura right side. Aiden with it. Covered by Towns and stolen by Brunson. And now the Knicks on the break. Bridges. Passes to Towns. Can’t tie it up as that one’s no good. The defense better tighten up on the mid-range. They’re much much tighter. You expect him to make every single one of those and he gets that one. Just love it that LeBron can scan the floor and pick the best open option available to the left side wing. Misses off the right iron. You’d like to see more effective ball movement there. Maybe they can find a way to establish some rhythm in the next few possessions with the extra pass. Now here’s Dantic. Here’s Aiden. Clock at four. High arcing shot and Donic with the layin. Now it’s a six-point Laker lead. Donic against Brunson. outside. Hart back to Brunson. That one doesn’t drop. And it’s the Lakers the other way. Donic outside. Here’s Aiden. And so he draws the foul. Headed to the line to shoot a pair. It’s going to be on Carl Anthony Towns. Lots of times you don’t mind fouling a big, but Aton’s a solid foul shooter. DeAndre Aton was so valuable in that 2021 playoff run for the Suns. Shot over 65% the entire postseason on their way to that NBA Finals appearance. First one falls for him. And the former 1-1, the first overall draft pick, Aiden. He He’s just a different matchup. That size BA and that great touch around the rim. He runs the floor. He’s a big presence down there. You just don’t see a ton of centers like him around this league like you once did in the 80s and early 90s. Aiden’s game presents a pretty hefty matchup issue. He’s perfect from the line this time. Well, Aiden and efficiency go hand in hand. I mean, this guy’s field goal percentage is on cloud nine. Clarkson up top, defended by Smart and he was fouled while in the act of shooting. So he’ll take two free throws. I mean Jordan Clarkson is huge in the Philippines. His family with roots there traveling out to Manila with NBA cares drawing huge crowds. two. And that one falls for Clarkson. And Clarkson in 2018 suited up for the Philippines national team. NBA Clarkson’s NBA games are a mustwatch in the Philippines. Kids watching Clarkson’s games in the morning before heading to school. They say, “Forget the cartoons. We want to watch hoops.” Vanderbilts checked in for Aiden. And so Clarkson nails both of them. The Lakers have gone seven of 14. And looking in control pass to Vincent. Now here’s Vanderbilt. Smart outside. No good. A bit long that time. New York trailing. Clarkson outside. Pass to McBride. Oh, there’s the alley and a big finish by Robinson. Not a coach in the league would be displeased with that kind of energy and effort that Mitchell Robinson showed there. Smart passes to Hayes, knocks it loose. Here’s McBride. Well, he hasn’t put up any points yet in this one. Pass to Clarkson. Lets it go from deep. Vanderb pulls it in. Los Angeles has gone 0 for three from downtown. It’s stolen by Clarkson. Here’s McBride. Out to the right wing. Out left to the wing. Six on the shot clock. Pulls it from 20. Rebound the Lakers. James outside pass to Smart who poked away. Another miss. They desperately need a bucket. Here’s Clarkson. It’s Hayes with the rebound. The Lakers in the lead. James outside pass to Benson. Jacks up a three. The shot won’t fall. New York has gone one of four from deep. down low. Clarkson right side. The layup misses. Now Smart. Here’s James. Oh, no good on the last second attempt there. And that concludes the first quarter of play. Lakers ahead up by four. And we’ll be back shortly for the start of the second quarter. Hope you’ve enjoyed the broadcast so far. Halfway through the first half in this one, guys. What stands out to you from the Lakers in this one? Just excellent first quarter defense. They’ve been really getting after it. Just a a great job really of making the game ugly, trying to muck it up a little bit out there. Here’s Donic. So on the floor for the Lakers to kick off the second quarter. Jared Vanderbilt out there with Rui Ayachimura. Then it’s Luca Donuch. Then it’s DeAndre Aton. And it’s Reeves in at the two. Here’s Reeves. They lead by four. Five to shoot. Nice D from Bridges. The Knicks shooting just around 26% for the game. Pass to Brunson. Parked it down low that time. Got hit with the 3second call. And Brent, you look at the defensive player of the year award. Generally the province of big men. Does that short change the great perimeter defenders? I think so. I mean, we’re seeing more and more with teams playing small ba the the value of being switchable on the perimeter and taking on the best offensive player that tends to come from the wing position. You got to put some more value in in how wing defenders are out there and shutting down primary offensive players on the other team. Here’s Aimura, the Knicks, making their last shot. Donic against Brunson. Stolen away. Nice job to interrupt the alioop attempt. Here’s Bridges. So, it’ll be two free throws. He was fouled in the act of shooting. And Bridges really likes to get to the interior and earn himself some opportunities from the charity strike. Shooting two. The first free throw is good. Raquel Bridges is one of those guys who maybe is a jack of all trades and master of nothing. Willing to do whatever it takes to help the team win. And it’s tied up with that one. You could tell he’s feeling confident right now at the line. And when he’s on, he can be lights out. Pass to Reeves. And here’s Aimura. Here’s Donic and he wills that one in. Saking it right through the back of the iron. Donic has got six points. And I love Donic’s shot selection. So smart at knowing when to shoot it. And Anobi for three. Rebounded by the Lakers. Eightton’s got seven rebounds in the game. hard against Donic and stolen by Bridges. Hatanobi passes to Towns and he can’t get that one. Hatton with the defensive effort for Los Angeles. They’ve gone just one of three to begin the second quarter. The shot by Reeves no good. New York shooting only 27% for today’s game. Oh, and there’s the whistle on the shot. So, two free throws for him coming up and Town’s three-pointer is elite. But some don’t think center should float around beyond the arc. What’s the balance there, you think, Grant? Well, I mean, first of all, it just shows how the game has evolved with big guys shooting like him. The bottom line, just play with aggression and don’t settle. That triple is a weapon. You also got to use your size and skill inside just as often. shooting two. And that one falls for Towns. and he makes both free throws. Makes it pretty tough on the defense. Who you going to pick to send to the free throw line? You know, he’s hitting the free throws right now. Form looks good. Aimura. The pass to Vanderbilt. Here’s Donic. Aimura up top. shoots over Anobi. Will not go. Misses off the front iron and it’s Towns with the power finish. A former number one pick. Towns is unstoppable when he’s on. A polished offensive talent with great size. Time called here. The Lakers decide to talk it over. Well, one of the free agent moves that wasn’t surprising was Brunson joining the Knicks. The two were enamored with each other early on in the process. A big signing for the Knicks and Brunson now gets a chance to be a main piece of the team. Heat. Heat. Heat up here. Quarter number two in around three minutes gone by. Pass to Reeves over Bridges. The shot by Reeves. No good. The Knicks with the lead. Bridges outside now. Brunson. Now here’s Towns. Offensive rebound. Hart and terrific work on the offensive glass as he picks up the deuce. A stronger defensive presence would have saved them two points. It didn’t seem like anybody was really aware there to go and collect that rebound in the possession. Now here’s Aimura. He’s got five. Pass to Aiden. tips it up. Great positioning on the put back. Vanderbilt’s got his first two points of the night. Now that takes serious effort and a light touch. No need to overdo it. Just lightly tip it in. And that one goes out of bounds. Last touch by Brunson. Looked like a simple play and turned into a turnover. Can’t give away possessions like that. The Lakers have gotten only two of eight field goals to go in the second. Pass to Vanderbilt. Oh, stolen by Anobi. Here’s Towns. Now here’s Anobi. Aimura covering. Bridges. Passes to Hart. Shot clock at six. The kick out to Brunson. Lets it go out of bounds. Nick’s ball as New York keeps possession outside Anobi. Six to shoot. Shoots from 12 and that won’t fall for him. He’s 0 for two. The Lakers trail. Pass to Aimura. Oh, and he got fouled on his way up. He’ll head to the line to shoot two. It’s going to be on OG Anobi. Oh, man. Putting points on the board. The defense being tough on Hachimura. All right, guys. What do you think about the the hustle stats for the Knicks? Well, the effort they’ve shown on defense has been infectious. Everyone on this team continuing to jump at opportunities to come away with steals. you make the most of second chance opportunities and you’re in there and active where that can really put a lot of pressure on the defense. Free throw good. Hachim Mura. Yeah, Hachimura being able to step out and shoot threes. That’s huge for his development. Clarkson’s checked in for New York. That one misses. So he goes one for two for New York. They’ve gotten five of eight attempts to drop since the second began. And the shots good. Bridges has got six. just so efficient right now on offense. Bridges picking up his spots and recognizing when to strike. Throws it up high and it’s slammed in by AI Mura. And Ruie getting up and getting after it on the lob. Brunson passes to Bridges and here’s Clarkson. The three. It’s hauled in by Luca Donuch. I mean, he’s trying to shoot his way out of what’s becoming a prolonged cold streak. Yeah, he’s got to move on. Forget about this sequence here and and try to find a way to get on the board. Two points. That one goes. Donic has gotten four this quarter. You got to appreciate the consistency night in and night out. He brings it pass to Bridges. Now Towns is covered by Eightton. Clarkson outside. No good on the three for Los Angeles. They’ve gone four of 10 from the field in the second. Back to Aimura. That’s good for the day. He’s four for six. Great balance as Hachimura takes that hit and still converts. Pass to Towns. Back to Clarkson over Ashimura. And it’s Clarkson again missing. Probably not the shot that was drawn up for that possession, but you can’t pass it up and you can’t knock it down. New York has gone 0 for four from beyond the arc here in the second quarter. Towns finds Clarkson. Clarkson missing again. The Lakers have gone just five of 12 here in the second quarter. and he almost made them regret defending him so loosely to end the drought. Here’s Towns. Soft touch off the glass. Towns has got 15. Look at Towns asserting himself inside. He knows he can muscle his way to a shot anytime. Donic against Brunson. Pass to Aimura. right at the free throw line and it falls all over the rim and in. 12 points for him. Feel like Ruie has himself locked in and right now making a big impact offensively. Bridges outside back to Brunson gets the first one to go. now one for seven on the night. They’re punishing those late defensive rotations, getting good looks inside throughout the half. Going all in. That was the 2K drive. Well worth the second look. Yeah, and in close games like this one, BA, you need toughness. Guys who will run to the fight and get after it. Now here’s Donic. Give him eight. Pass to Vanderbilt. lets it go from 11. Carl Anthony Towns comes up with a rebound. Towns has got rebound number nine now. What an effort here tonight. Brunson passes to Towns. Shot left block. They now take the lead and the Knicks lead by one. That’s just Big Cat using his upper body strength to convert through contact. And the Lakers call time here. You have to like what we’re seeing from Carl Anthony Towns. And the defense has not provided any threat to stop him out there. So it should come to no surprise that he continues to attack the basket. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. And a new group getting ready for the Lakers. Hayes has checked in for Vanderbilt. James comes in for Aimura. Smarts checked in for Reeves. And Vincent subbed in for Donic. James outside. And it’s going to be a 3second call. The Knicks with the lead and they’ve been producing at a high level. No question. They’re in a nice rhythm offensively to the right side. And here’s Brunson from the arc. That shot off the mark. And the Lakers going the other way now. And Jaylen Brunson, he’s a great option on the floor, Grant. Yes, he is. Can attack from different levels of the floor. Solid shooting threat from outside and gives you another playmaker to initiate the offense. Four on the clock, releases, and again, the Lakers no good. as a big once you get position inside it allows you to fight and come away with a lot of tough boards. And it’s Towns with the power finish. Woo! The whole arena felt packed. Towns can just be merciless on offense. 151 left in the second quarter. Aes find smart and looks like an illegal pick was set. That gets the ref’s attention. You’re not going to fool the officials too often on an illegal screen. Yeah, everybody saw that one. That was pretty blatant there. Robinson, he’s checked in for Towns and the Knicks shooting 42% in the second quarter. Bridges outside. Pass to McBride beyond the ark. Nails it from three. And now it’s a six-point New York lead. That right there, that’s the kind of look this system is designed to create. Here’s Vincent. Here’s Smart. Brunson defending James outside. And that one goes out of bounds. Last touch by Robinson. Robinson against Aiden. Just five to shoot. Oh, it’s stolen away. Shot from 12. Rejected by James. Here’s some advice. Don’t go at LeBron James. And he loves it up top and the lob disrupted. Not to be. Pass to Bridges. 13 ft out and too long on the shot and stolen by Bridges. That’s going to be over and back. Not watching the line on that one. And you got to be in awe of incredible defensive efforts like this. Now that was a block. Some much needed energy there to jump start them back into this game. And the Knicks making a change here. And Anobi’s checked in. And so it’s the Lakers with it. They trail by six. Now 5 seconds separating the shot clock and the game clock. Pass to Smart. Here’s Vincent looking for his first basket. Still in this one. Shot clock at five. Offensive board. Robinson with a steal. steps back and shoots. And we’ve reached halftime in this one. It’s the Knicks up six. All right. Now, let’s check in with Ally Leforce. Ally, what do you have? The Lakers 32. Carl, you were able to build the lead, but what’s the key to maintaining it or even increasing it going forward? I mean, don’t change what we’re doing. to stay together, keep passing the ball, uh keep playing great defense, and just keep making them think and make decisions, especially the difficult ones. Consistency is a beautiful thing. Thanks, Carl. All right, good stuff, Ally. And we’ll get back to the action at the start of the third quarter. It’s the 2K Sports Halftime Show. Hey, welcome back to the NBA on 2K Sports. This is Ernie Johnson. Kenny the Jet Smith is right here. Say hey to the folks, Kenny. Hey, folks. Say hey to the folks, Shack. Hey, folks. Hey, let’s get this party started. Okay. The first half was all about Carl Anthony Towns. He ended up with 19 points and 10 rebounds. He’s been in the midst of some incredible games lately and tonight he’s got it going again. Taking a look at the Knicks. Kenny, what you think? Well, first and foremost, you got to take care of the basketball and that means playing with poise, making good decisions, and not giving away any possessions. They did a great job of that in the first half. Shaq, your take on the Lakers. Well, the story is their poor shooting under 40%. You got to give the D some credit, but they look uninspired on offense. It’ be nice to see fewer isolation plays, more ball movement, and creating for each other. And that does it for our halftime show. We now take you back to Kevin Harland for the start of the third period. And in that first half, we saw a pretty tight battle. We’ll soon find out what sort of adjustments were discussed during halftime. You know, Carl Anthony Towns has been exceptional here, guys. And just halfway through this contest, he’s already registered a double double. Yeah, guys like him love to stuff the stat sheet. He’s doing it here. And as we get into this third quarter, as we’ve seen so far, neither team able to create much separation on the scoreboard, we’ve got Male Bridges, Carl Anthony Towns is out there with Josh Hart. Then there’s Jaylen Brunson, and it’s Anobi in at the small forward position. That’s the five for New York right now. Well, the Knicks shooting only 33%. Not exactly consistent offense. Back to Brunson. And the layup is good. Brunson’s got his second basket on the night. A great move. I mean, the defense has no response. Well, just ripping through right there as he he finds the open spot and gets right through there. High basketball IQ play from deep. Here’s Donic. Towns with a rebound. Towns has got 11 rebounds in the game. And it’s Bridges with the jam. And that’s just too easy. Bridges in there slamming it down. Now here is James to the middle. Here’s Donic. And the layup is good off the glass. Donic has got 10 points. Sometimes with that much of a height advantage, resistance is futile. Pass to Bridges and they call an illegal screen here. You can get away with one once in a while, but it looked like he wasn’t completely set on that pick. Yeah, a quick little lean like that is going to get the ref’s attention. Foul call. They need something good to happen here. Yeah, they’ve gone way too long without a score. Here’s James. The Knicks with the rebound. Towns has got 12 rebounds here tonight. Big time effort. Here’s Anobi. Good work defensively by James. The Lakers have gone just one of three in the second half. Pass to Reeves. Stolen by Bridges. Now Brunson and he goes strong with the one-handed jam. Excellent way to pad the lead. Yeah, especially when it’s your one throwing it down like that. Oh yeah, his teammates love that one. I’m sure he’s going to hear about it when he gets to the huddle for New York. They’ve gotten three or four shots to fall so far in the third. Outside Anobi back to Brunson Bridges passes to Towns and it’s powered home by Towns. Nice one-handed jam. Simple, ineffective. BA, hey, with the lead, I’m surprised he didn’t come up with something a little more creative. Pass to James. Brunson against Donic. Back to James. Six on the shot clock. He shoots it and misses it off the right side of the rim. It’s another just bad decision on a night full of those. His shot selection tonight has been questionable at best. Here’s Anobi. It doesn’t go for him. Oh, excellent D there from Eightton. Aimura finds Donic. Pass to Aimura and a foul called on the way up. So, he’ll take two from the free throw line. Well, the compromised defense happened because of the attacking mentality of Hachimura. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. That free throw no good. And he’s good on the second for New York. They’ve gone four of six from the floor in this third quarter. Got Anobi for three. Donic grabs the miss. Donic has got five rebounds tonight. And again, no good by the Lakers. And the Knicks shooting has been excellent in the the third quarter at 57%. Bridges left side. Here’s Towns. Lays it up and banks it in. Towns has got 23. This right here, this is how you want to play the game. With passion, with energy, just great hustle play right there. And they get it back. And it’s aim missing. He’s been tremendous at corelling misses all night long. Yeah, it’s almost like he’s got a magnet on that ball here tonight. He’s in the right spot all the time. Now here’s Hart. This is the most they’ve led. 13 points. Down to five on the shot clock. Kicks it out to Anobi. Rebound. The Lakers just showing some tremendous authority controlling the boards. Love it. Sort of reminding me of a little Ben Wallace action here from his years with the Pistons. He’s been that much of a force rebounding the ball. Bridges outside. Adanobi passes to Bridges to the inside. Hardigan Sachi Mura. New York needs to get one up quick. The timer ticks. Brunson misses. Probably better off passing on that shot with him all in his face. Yeah, that’s one where you hope if he gets in there the next time he he makes a different choice. Now here’s Bridges. Give him eight. Yep, that one goes. Mel really showing a nice confidence in that shot right there as his shooting percentages are trending up. Time called here. Los Angeles decides to talk it over. Oh my. Their coach does not look happy and I can guess why. Their interior defense has been struggling. No, they’re not preventing them from scoring. And if you can get to a high efficiency shot on the floor and that’s the paint, you just keep going. Heat up here. Heat. Heat. Vanderbilt’s checked in for DeAndre Aton. James passes to Vanderbilt. Donic finds Vanderbilt. Here’s Reeves. Fires the three. Gets rebounded by New York. Towns has got his 16th rebound on the night. Here’s Hart. Yes. And a nice assist from Brunson. Hart’s got six. Like a matador. Olay. There was no defense. That has to be one of the easier shots I’ve seen tonight. Yeah. Feels like Christmas right now. just gift wrapping points. Now here’s Donic. He’s got 10 and that’s out of bounds. The Lakers will retain possession. Nice deflection there. Really trying to disrupt their offensive flow. Yeah, appreciate the work right now on the defensive end. Clock at six. James outside. Shoots over Anobi off the left rim and out. and he just hasn’t been able to get it going this period. No, I haven’t seen him in in comfortable spots or at least spots we’ve seen in this offensive set that are allowing him to settle in. Now here’s Donic tries a 10-footer the put back. Oh, he hangs in there and cashes in on the second chance points. I always love the hard work on the glass. Just great activity. Pass to Towns. Back to Bridges. Hart finds Brunson. James with the rebound. Los Angeles has got nothing to fall here in the third. 0 for four. Inside. Here’s Hachimura. Banked it in off the glass. Hachimura’s got five points now in the quarter. I like Hachimura on the inside. patience and capitalizing from that tight spot. Pass to Ananobi. Here’s Towns. Guarded by Vanderville. Here’s Brunson. James with the rebound. James has got his seventh rebound of the game with that last one. They get it back. Right side Vanderbilt. Oh, plenty of contact on that shot. Officials call the foul and he’ll take two free throws. Now it’s going to be on Carl Anthony Towns. The officials were right on top of that one. And now we get a little perspective here on how the hustle game has been for the Knicks. You have to be a fan of the energy they played with on the defensive end. Active hands and feet and it’s come up big a few times for them. And I feel like another part of tonight’s game has been the hustle. The hustle points. getting up and down, getting second chances, getting transition opportunities. They’ve been fantastic in that area. So, it’s both teams making substitutions here and Vanderbilt drops them both. And so it’s New York with it. The biggest lead of the game, 15 points. Bridges passes to Robinson. And he’s going to the line for two. The officials saw contact while he was going up. I think there are a lot of big men in this league who don’t realize that Mitchell Robinson has that kind of quickness. They end up fouling him quite a bit. and he knocks down the first one. A lot of people like Mitchell Robinson because he does what he’s told to do and that is stay in the lane. It’s where he does a lot of damage both defensively and offensively. He does not get the second one. Los Angeles has got nothing to fall here in the third. 0 for four. Did you see that? I mean, going right to the rim. That’s how you finish in the open floor. Yeah. anything other than a layup in that situation. Probably disappointing. Had numbers took advantage. And that one falls for Smart. The Knicks have gotten seven of 15 shots to hit in this second half. Here’s Bridges. Benson grabs the miss. The Lakers trail. James with the ball and Bridges picks him up defensively. Smart outside. No good. The Knicks go the other way with it. And now the Knicks on the break and the dunk to finish it off. A beauty. And breaking out the one hand slam. Man, an emphatic way to extend the lead a little more. Now, here is James and that one drops for him. James has got six points. You know, LeBron will play physical when the play calls for it. That time makes the contact and it’s a non-issue for him. Here’s Yaselli. over Vanderbilt. Rebound by the Lakers. Here’s Vincent and finished off by Hayes. And this is something he does all too well. Great position for the put back there. And I like how he doesn’t think twice about passing it out. Just going right for the slam. Oh, his competitiveness right now is why the teammates love him. And it’s the Knicks with the ball. The Lakers getting their last shot to go. Yeah. Jordan Clarkson bringing it up to the tent. The Lakers with the ball. Seven-point differential. James outside. Back to Smart. Down low. Here’s Vincent. Up and in on the layup. The defense couldn’t collapse quickly enough. How about the unselfishness of this team? Yeah, the willingness to make the next pass has this defense scrambling. Now here’s Bridges. 10 points for him. McBride. Good setup. Led him to the rack perfectly for the layup. He’s got five. And that play never gets old. The pick and roll will still be an offensive staple 100 years from now. Trust me. Back to Smart. Pass to Hayes. Just five on the clock. He was all alone on that one. Hayes has got four points in the quarter. Good play call and good execution. The offense running on all cylinders. Here’s Yabaselli to the middle. Here’s Clarkson. The shot no good. Smart with the defensive effort. Here’s Vincent. They get it back. Oh, and there’s the whistle on the shot. So, two free throws for him coming up. It’s going to go on Mitchell Robinson. Shooting two and he drops a first. The Lakers making a switch here. Aiden’s checked in. hits both from the stripe. The Knicks with the lead. Bridges outside. Pass to Robinson. Here’s McBride. He’s got five. And there’s a whistle. He’ll head to the line to shoot two. Two. Two. That free throw misses. He hits the second from the line. Los Angeles has got nothing to fall here in the third. 0 for four. Pass to Vincent. Clarkson against Smart. Now here is James. And again the Lakers no good. Here’s McBride. He’s got six. And here’s Clarkson. That one drops for him. Clarkson’s got six points. And the strength of Clarkson on display. Awesome job fending off the defense and not letting that deter him from scoring. And so it’s New York with a six-point lead at the close of the quarter. Their entire defense is designed to stop LeBron right now. And that’s been effective. Back to the game after this break. And a moment now as we take a look at our State Farm assist of the game. He’s always near the top of the list for this honor. I mean, passes like these are his specialty. Doesn’t happen with every point guard in the league as far as setting your teammates up. Lots more scorers now, but right there creating the scoring opportunity for his teammate. Three tense quarters behind us, one more to go. Thanks for being with us as we get ready for the fourth. And so in the game for the Lakers, DeAndre Aiden is out there with Ruachimura. Then there’s LeBron James. Then it’s Luca Donuch. And it’s Reeves. And at the shooting guard. Now here’s Anadobi. Back to Brunson. Fires from deep. LeBron with the rebound. James has got his eighth rebound here tonight. And here’s Donic outside. Well, the Knicks shooting just 37% in the game. Right side at anobi. Pass to Towns. Rebound by the Lakers. Hachimura’s got four rebounds now. James finds Donic. Here’s Reeves. Back to Donic looking to end this cold spell and it’s rebounded by Carl Anthony Towns. Gabelli and he was fouled in the act of shooting. Opportunity for a three-point play here. Man, what focus. I mean, the hoop and the harm. Incredible. Heat. Heat. The Lakers trail trying to find a spark here. Yes, indeed. A rough stretch offensively. They could really use a basket. And again, the Lakers no good. Just not sure if he ran out of energy at halftime or what, but so far just not himself in the second half. I like that. I mean, some physical play inside. He’s not about to give up any easy baskets. Two stops. And the first one at the line is good. good on both. The Lakers have gone 0 for three in this fourth. Not good pass to Reeves. Donic against Brunson. Aimura outside. The Lakers with the rebound. James can’t get it to go. We’re about 2 minutes into the fourth here. Brenton with it outside. Anobi. puts up a three. Aimura with a rebound. Aimura’s got five rebounds in the game. Pass to Donic. Aiden with it. Brunson defending. Aiden against Brunson. And Aiden gets it to go. The big man coming with an attacking mindset. That’s something for the defense to deal with. And Aiden is dealing. Yelli booked that. Say what you will about the value of the three-pointer, but those close-in looks are always plan a every trip down. Get to the paint, get deep, score. Now here’s Duch pass to Reeves. Shoots over Hart. The shot by Reeves. No good. Just showing some tremendous authority controlling the boards. Love it. Sort of reminding me of a little Ben Wallace action here from his years with the Pistons. He’s been that much of a force rebounding the ball. Donic Towns with a rebound to the paint. Yabiselli misses in close. Los Angeles has gone 0 for three here in the fourth. Donic right side. He’s off on that one. New York goes the other way with it. The biggest lead of the game, 15 points. The shot by Towns. No good. And for Los Angeles, they’re shooting 32% for this game. Not what they’re hoping for for New York. They’ve gone two for seven from the field here in the fourth. Not great. And you can’t leave the basket unprotected. Bad things will happen to you. Yeah, that was just way too easy. Will not find a higher percentage opportunity than that. James finds Aiden. Brunson against Donic. Over Brunson. The Lakers with another miss for New York. They’ve gotten three of eight shot attempts to find the net here in the fourth quarter. Anobi can’t get it to go. And here are the Lakers trailing by 13. Brunson with it. Pass to Towns. Anobi on the wing. and no good. Good work defensively by James. Aiden in the high post. Pass to Reeves. James outside. Five to shoot. The Lakers got to get one up. Late clock and there’s the shot clock violation. couldn’t get the shot off in time. Well, the Knicks shooting around 30% since the fourth quarter got underway. Oh, they get a hand on it. Hanobi passes to Towns, shoots over Aton. Oh, and he took a hard foul on the shot. So he’ll head to the line to shoot a pair. It’s going to be on DeAndre Aton. For a big Towns is an effective free throw shooter. You really can’t give him too many looks from the line. two and that one falls for Towns. Male Bridges checked in for New York. Zoe picks up just one from the line that time. Los Angeles has gone 0 for three here in the fourth. Pass to Reeves. Aton inside. Town’s on him and he’ll draw the foul. He’ll head to the line for two. Good idea to make Aidton earn it at the line cuz he’s a menace in the paint. Don’t let him get that shot off. Take a break. Take a break. Two shots. That’s good from Aiden. Aiden hits them both. Time called here. The Knicks decide to talk it over. And one thing I’ve learned through the years is no matter the situation, there are always adjustments you can make. Yeah. Not just there to pump up or to discipline players, you got to make sure that the coach makes the proper adjustments and has his team in the right mindset to carry it out. Heat. Heat. All right, let’s get a report from Alli. I was able to listen to New York’s head coach talking to his team. He told his squad to pour on the gas, saying, quote, “We hold the lead. Let’s keep growing it. Be aggressive. This is no time to let up.” Appreciate the report, Ally. Now, here’s Anobi. Pass to Brunson. Looking to get back on track and he takes it up and lays it in. And just executing at a high level. I mean, taking what the defense allows and putting in the work. Basketball IQ is something that gets talked about, but its importance to a team showing up here, running plays that turn into scores. Here’s Reeves after the basket by New York. And there’s the whistle. Illegal screen is the call. You’re not going to fool the officials too often on an illegal screen. Yeah, everybody saw that one. That was pretty blatant there. New York has gone 0 for two from outside here in the fourth quarter. Brunson passes to Anobi. Tipped away. Donic with it. And Bridges picks him up defensively. And it’s Donic missing. And for New York, they’re shooting just 38%. Their offense not where they want to be. Anobi can’t get it to go. And for the Lakers, they’re shooting at 32% from the floor. Not good. And it’s Achi Mura missing. That could have been an easy pass and finish. Not really sure what went wrong. Yeah, you’d like to keep things a little more simple. And that was a play that didn’t quite develop the way they wanted it. And so it’s the Lakers with it. James outside. Aimura outside and there’s the call. It’s going to be an illegal screen. Smarts checked in for Los Angeles. They absolutely want to add to what’s already a big lead. No question, BA. No reason to let up. Just keep playing your game. Brunson finds Anobi. Back to Brunson. So, it’ll be two free throws. He was fouled in the act of shooting. That free throw good from Brunson. Both free throws good from Brunson. So, it’s the Lakers now. It’s a 14-point game. Smart passes to Donic. The ball’s knocked loose and Anobi with it. Picked up by James. Pass to Hart to the middle. And so he draws the foul. Headed to the line to shoot a pair. And so he’s picked up his final foul and he’ll set the rest of this one out. Almost 7 ft tall. Towns has the length to get to the line. A tough guy to guard. Hayes has checked in for Aiden. and he makes a first. The Knicks making a switch here. And so Towns nails them both. Los Angeles has gone 0 for three here in the fourth. James outside. Smart against Bridges. Back to James. Shot clock at six. And he’s going for the oop here and finished off by Hayes. This is why coaches want defenders to always have their hands ready. LeBron with the quick pass there. Here’s Yabaselli. Aimura covering. Donic against Brunson. Adonobi goes back up and he sinks the layup and the Knicks lead by 16. Second chances are a great measure of what a team is doing in terms of their effort on a nightly basis and that was some serious effort there. Now here’s Dantic. The three ball hits the trifecta. Defense was all over Donic. So he smartly uses a pick to get free to shoot. Pass to Anobi. Back to Bridges. I have to admit, I mean, it’s always a tough decision for the ref on the block charge call. Two shots. Relax on the first one falls. And so he makes both from the line. Los Angeles has gone only one of four from the perimeter here in this fourth quarter. Pass to Smart. Donic outside now. Aimura. Five on the clock. Here’s James. No luck on that one. And New York the other the way now. Bridges outside. Outside. Anobi. Bridges outside. Here’s Towns. Yep. Count it. Towns has got nine points here in the second half. They’ve been battling all night. Now they’re on the brink of putting this game away. No, a great job of getting in position to win a game. It’s been an allout effort from the squad. Now here’s Smart. Back to Dantic. And the jumper is good at the free throw line. Donic has got five points in the quarter and just such an accurate shooter. I mean, give Luca any room to get a shot off and he’ll take it. Pass to Bridges. Smart with the defensive effort. I think he wants that one back. I mean, he knows he’s capable of better. And they were really able to find the mismatches they wanted and exploit those all night. Great execution from the players and coaching staff for the Knicks. They looked to run any time they could. They set the tone with their pace. Their transition game was excellent. And as it was happening, as it was building, you knew this was a monster game for Carl Anthony Towns. And I love his composure. He didn’t try to do too much or force things, but he was ready to take advantage of every opening the defense gave him. The shot by James, no good. Well, if you believe in the numbers, that mid-range shot is not a high value shot, even with little or no defense on you. Pass to Brunson. Back to Bridges. Towns for three. Rebounded by the Lakers. Smart up top. He’s guarded by Bridges. Smart passes to James over Brunson and he hits one. Maybe he’s ready to get back on track. LeBron patient there keeping the defense guessing, maybe mixing up their coverages on the back end. Makes him very unpredictable in a pick and roll set. And so New York takes this one by a big margin. A clean win and one where they clearly showed better energy. Yeah, so true. They put on a show here at home and I really think they had that extra swagger and confidence, too. Well, now we have some time to check in with Ally Leforce. Ally, hey. All right, I’m with Carl Anthony Towns. Carl, congratulations on the victory. What was key in getting the win here tonight? Uh, I mean, we played like we wanted it more. You know, we came out here and we just did a lot of great defensive stops. It wasn’t offensive, it was more defensive. You did a great job. We got those 50-50 balls. Uh, put us in a nice position. We could see and feel that desperation. Congrats on the win. Thanks, Ally. Great interview once again. And that’ll wrap it up, folks. For Alli Leforce, Grant Hill, and Brent Barry, this is Brian Anderson thanking you for watching tonight’s game. We’ll see you next time.
