No DOUBT Standouts | Chiefs vs Cardinals
[Music] Preseason game number one is in the books and we have takeaways we got to get to. This is going to be a lot of fun. This is the breakdown where I run down all my takeaways from the previous game. You guys are going to see this on Tuesdays come the regular season. So, don’t miss out on that. and we are working our way into what will be a live stream postgame all season long starting the regular season then getting into Monday Q&A the breakdown the film room Gary Stat Island and then the game plan for the next week all week long all season long here on RGR football check out underdog and make sure that you use our code RGR when you sign up if you want to get in on the action this year right now lot to go over from this particular first game Not a lot of action with the ones, but several key takeaways that we got to talk about. And I’m going to give you the bottom line on all of this. The truth is there’s still work to do on the offensive line. In particular, you saw Jawan Taylor out there for just a few snaps, perfectly fine. It was Jaylen Moore that came in to replace him, backup, quote unquote, at the right tackle position, and a lot of folks felt that he struggled. I have just watched it this morning. Uh re-watched the game, especially with a lot of the ones and the twos. And important to know is that there are still some adjustments going on. Kingsley Sumati, yeah, he’s got to get his pad level down. He’s got to improve a little bit in terms of getting out of the blocks. That first step has still got to improve. He got to the point where he was a little bit behind on a couple of blocks and that cost him. Jaylen Moore, who came in at right tackle, also has to cut down some of his splits. There are times Jawan likes to be a little bit farther away from his guard than maybe you see on the left side of the line at times. I don’t think that’s particularly a poaching point as I understand, but it could be a little bit of discretion on the players part. I think Jaylen Moore took that too far. I thought he left himself out on an island a few I mean it could be six inches. It isn’t a large gap, but a few too many times I saw him a little bit too separated from Trey Smith. That’s got to come down. That’s an improvement that just getting to know how wide a kickstep somebody’s going to take, etc. That you have to get used to those plays. And when you’re not talking about a ton of plays, you really got to be paying attention to it because, you know, Jawan had three snaps. Uh Simmons was in for 10. That was good. I felt like he looked honestly bored most of the time. Josh Simmons looks like he’s ready to roll. At least with that level of competition that you got from the Cardinals right now, I’m really not concerned with him. I’m a little bit concerned that it was just the initial steps forward for he and Kingsley as a pair on the left hand side that’s going to come along and that’s going to improve. Uh pretty encouraged there but there is a little bit to work on as well inside uh Tran Creed or Trey and Creed. I I know both of them got a call last night but not significant and I don’t think that it’s anything to be terribly worried about. What I get a little bit concerned about is the depth there. as we talked about Josh Jawan Jaylen were there. Now when you’re outside of the Jays then it gets a little bit different because we’re talking about Wanie Morris who played over on the left hand side and I thought against the twos looked okay. Uh I didn’t feel like he really made any splash plays or any um really over the top blocks. Uh, but as the game went on, I felt like there was still a little bit of gap there, like a little bit he’s got to come up, uh, keep some pressure off of the quarterbacks, and I think that’s gonna kind of play its way out. I felt like Norad snapping the ball looked terrific against the twos. Was really happy with his performance as a backup offensive lineman. Um, Callian O’Hansen at the guard spots, nothing terrible, nothing outlandish. So, I I would call that a push. Uh I don’t think there’s a whole lot of takeaway from that particular one, but that’s okay. The tight ends was a takeaway. Trav obviously only on the field for a couple of plays. You come back, no Gray got, I believe, was nine and then you saw a ton of Tongion and honestly on rewatch there was more Jared Wy out there than I expected to tell you the truth. Obviously, Tin with a couple of the bigger plays. WY had one on the sidelines that I thought was good and we have to be pretty positive about that, but that’s just the beginning. I don’t know that that’s sustainable. It was almost a little bit too much tongen to begin with. We’re going to see where that comes. And I did find it interesting that they went with Spivey when they went early to the three tight end set in there just to try to get some momentum. Um, so keep an eye on the the third position. What’s going to happen now is we’re going to see some change. We’re going to see some lineup changes starting tomorrow. This is recorded Sunday morning. You’re going to see it soon. And I think a couple of guys are going to be uh given a little bit more chance. I thought Ple and I didn’t get to rewatch the entire fourth quarter, but I thought uh he gave you enough that he needs more look. I think this second preseason game, he should get a little bit more run with the twos and definitely with the threes, but I’d like to see him get some action with the twos as well. Then we’re looking on down the line. Uh we would hope that we get some more on the defensive side. Chris Jones not out there very much. Mike Panell out there a little too much for the preseason to tell you the truth. But I was very intrigued and happy to see that no more got out there early uh in the first quarter. Uh was was able to be on the field and rotate a little bit. Obviously played more as the game went on, but I thought you got decent reps from him. I thought you got decent reps from Ashton Gelotti as well. Neither of them made a huge splash, but I thought they were both pushing the pocket when they needed to. They’re both getting some penetration from time to time. I thought the pursuit was very good on Gelott’s part. I thought you saw hustle there and I thought that was good. I think the concern comes in when you get to the back of the defense. And takeaways from this are that the linebackers have to change. Jeff Boston earned himself more play time with the twos. Jack Cochran did not. And I think that that’s an outstanding problem here. I don’t think Jack Cochran is good enough to go into the season as the fourth linebacker. He got run away from. He got worked over in the run game. Just not enough there. Now, Bosa, on the other hand, was able to do a number of things. He has to get better at setting the edge. He was lined up wide at one point and just got moved off of his spot by a tight end. That’s not good. But it’s a rookie’s first action in the preseason. He blitzed well. He turned and ran well. He was in against the run. And I thought he brought a ton of energy and was in better position most plays than Cochran was. I am convinced at this point, unless something drastic changes in preseason game number two, that the best player to be on the field that isn’t the starters in Chanel, Bolton, and Tranquil, is Jeff Bosa at the linebacker spot. I might be out on a limb. I thought Cam Jones played hard. I’m not sure that he put himself in the best positions. Obviously, he had the injury and had to come back. That’s one thing. And I thought late in the game, I thought Brandon George put in some good plays, brought the tenacity. I don’t know if it’s enough to make him get him onto the roster, but I thought that he showed who he is out on that field, and I like that. The interesting part came in the secondary with the rotation. Uh Mike Edwards did look rusty to me, I have to admit, but he’s there to be the break glass guy. I was really happy to see Jaden Hicks be in not only early uh even uh for the interception, right? But also playing in some split high looks where it looked like he had a better recognition pattern to be able to play the deep halves. I don’t think you’re going to put them out there as single high and that’s okay. That’s not where he’s best anyway. But rotating Chamari down and being able to kind of interchange like we saw in years past with Sorenson and Tyron Matthew, that’s the goal I think that CPolo has here. And I think it’s it’s coming along. The worry part here is with Jaylen Watson going into the concussion protocol. I thought Nazi Johnson had a very up and down night. Uh I thought Roland Wallace played well. Uh he did have the penalty, but other than that, I felt like playing a mix of alignments, he was where he needed to be. Same thing with null Williams. I was very happy to see what Null Williams put out there on film. U as we finish it up and we look at at the depth here. Joshua Williams has an uphill battle right now. I’m not sure that they can keep six corners. We’re going to see what it looks like this week. What we’re going to get tomorrow is going to be a ton of new information and who’s taking snaps where. So, make sure that you like and you sub and you hit the bell. Check us out tomorrow live. We’re going to answer your Q&As’s. Make sure you bring the questions cuz we can’t do the show without you. Hey Ryan Gtsy Bud,Go KC Chief's 🏈🟥🟨
Let's go Simmons!
I wanna see Bashard smith with 2s Oline rather than Mitchell. It’s hard for Bashard to shine and be himself with 4 Oline and Mitchell doesn’t have that burst
Kingsley is a question mark for me. Simmons is the future at LG
Thanks Ryan!
Idk Kingsley got pushed away pretty easy by a LB. I said all last year. We can't keep playing with Mahomes protection .Basa looks real hopefully he's our next Donnie Edwards
Its one preseason game. We dont know yet if hes the one leget LT. He needs a whole season to prove hes leget and can stay healthy.
Nohl Williams and J. Bassa looked good.
