Baltimore Orioles vs Oakland Athletics – Aug 8, 2025 | Full Game MLB The Show 25

Hello baseball fans and welcome. The start of the weekend is upon us. It’s Friday evening baseball on the show. It’s the Athletics taking on the Baltimore Orioles. First pitch coming your way next. All right, just about set to go. Starting on the mound in this one, number 63. And Chris, he’s a guy that gets better when things get tough. Well, you know, this guy wants to be better than that. I mean, the RA is bloated. He understands that he’s got to put his team in a better position to win ball games. And at this point, you have to forget about your own individual stats and you have to go out there and attack and try to get that W. And if you do that, you’ll look up and most likely that erra will have dropped over time. And that one sliced foul. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. [Applause] inside. Just missed. Oh, that got away from him. And he’s going to reach on a hit by pitch to lead off the inning. Now, here is Nick Curts. What a season it’s been for him. He has supplied a lot of power and that average. First pitch doesn’t find a zone. [Applause] Swing and a highf fly ball left field. Makes the grab and there’s one down. And time now to check out the A’s lineup. This group was shut out their last game, so we’re going to see if they can bounce back with a better effort here today. And Boo, it can get in your head a little bit when you get shut out. You’re frustrated. You’re seeing that consecutive streak of innings you haven’t scored. And you want to get off to a great start. score early because if you don’t, you feel like it could linger into two consecutive games which no one wants to be a part of. The other way and foul ball and that is downstairs and one and one. fouled off. He was late. That one not close. Two and two. Got him. swinging and he’ll be beating himself up on the way back to the dugout. Got a pitch to hit and he just couldn’t get to it. I think that slider really caught way more of the plate than it was supposed to. And now a chance for Shay Langalers. Good power. Not great in the OBP department. Checks over to first back safely. That misses the zone. And that’s ball one. And that one is inside. out towards right center field. Rutman racing over to make the catch. The A’s strand one. Orioles do up in the first. No score. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back now at Oral Park and on the mound for the A’s in this one, Oswaldo Beo. Well, he’s been a very dependable starter for his club. And what stands out for me is that left-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 against him. And it just tells me they have a hard time tracking the baseball. Maybe it’s the release point, maybe it’s the motion, but just some way somehow they’ve got to figure out a way to pick it up and try to have some success from the left side. That’s towards center. Leday puts it away for the out. One down. All right, let’s take a look at the Orioles lineup now. Batting second, a really important guy for them. Jordan Westber. Well, he’s an important part of this lineup for sure. I mean, there’s no doubt about it, Boo. It’s somebody that they try to feed off of. He does a lot of things, you know, very well up there at the plate. He’s got a presence about him and you know he’s a guy that you really kind of like to watch swing the bat Jordan West in the box here lets that one go for a ball. One out. Base is empty. That’s outside and it’s 2 and 0. on the ground right side. Throw to first in time. Batting third, the shorts stop. Gunnar Gunnar Henderson will hit next. Henderson goes 6′ 3 in, hitting third in the lineup, and he was a second round pick back in 2019. That’s down and in. A slider missed. Definitely a swing and miss slider down and in. He finished that really well. Just couldn’t get him to offer at it. And that’s in there for a strike. And now it’s even. The 1-1 is fouled off. fouled off and they’ll do it again. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Got him looking and good work there as he gets a one, two, three. Nothing doing this time around for the O’s. We played an inning. They’ll score. New inning getting started now. The A’s designated hitter number 32 in the air left side. Cowser on the move and there’s one away. Austin wins up next for the A’s. And first offering is fouled off. And there’s the strike. Belly left that change up off. Got away with one there and he’ll take it, but doesn’t want to make that mistake again. Ed Drummond, our umpire behind the plate in this one. Yeah, Boog. He’s a really fair umpire. Both the pitchers and the hitters. So standard strike zone. He’s consistent with it. And the great thing is you don’t see players question the calls too much. So that’s a good thing in this day and age. swings and misses and two away now. Well, one of the things that hitters will do is they’ll look for that red dot on the baseball that is coming in to let them knowary what the pitch is. And if they see the red dot, it’s typically a slider. But when a guy’s got a really tight one with high spin rates, very difficult to determine. And that’s probably why we saw a swing and miss right there. Just a nasty pitch. Second inning here. No score. Next offering is in for a strike. Oh, that’s low. swing and a miss. And that one missed by a ton. I would throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. There’s a swing and a drive back there. Going. Gone. That one felt good. His second of the year. And the A’s jump in front. It’s one- nothing. knew what pitch he wanted to hit. Spent on some other pitches in this at bat, was very patient, and it paid off. So, two down. This is JJ Blade. He’s been tearing it up at the plate recently. can make it a fivegame hitting streak with a knock in this one. Two out. Base is empty. [Applause] That one missed. [Applause] outside low and it’s two and one back to back breaking pitches away. You get the feeling as a hitter that the pitcher is afraid of you that he doesn’t want to challenge you. So I think the confidence level is raised right here. And a pitch tap foul at the plate. [Applause] swing and a chopper out to short. Henderson over to first in time. That’s out number three, but they’re off to a good start as they pick up a run on this solo shot. It’s now a one- nothing ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. Back here in Baltimore, ready to go for the last half of the digging in is the switch in outfielder Adley Rutman. Orio, you can do it. Come on. And a first pitch fastball is in for a strike. And that’s downstairs and outside. Little chopper rolls. Foul. Goes down swinging for the strikeout. Chased the fast ball up the ladder for strike three. Finished him off by blowing it by him up high. But they did a really nice job of setting that pitch up. The plan of attack early on was to keep everything down around the knees. So that was a good call to change his eye level and run it by him for the K. Jeremiah Jackson the next to hit for the Orioles. Close but called a ball. Ball one. One down. Base is empty. And another ball. That clips the zone. Now two balls in a strike. One way to make a guy real uncomfortable at the plate is pound him inside with good velocity. They’re doing that right here. Check swing called strike. That’s hard hit on the line. Falls it in for the and there’s two down. Batty six left field. Colton Cowser the next to hit for the Orioles. bottom of the zone and a cold strike. First pitch strike right there for him. He’s going to have to do that consistently if he’s going to give any length to his skipper. Fouled off left side. [Music] swing and a miss and he got him and it’s a three up, three down inning. Orioles held in check there and it remains one- nothing. All set for the start of the inning. Now it’s the second base, Luis Rias. Let’s go. Just missed. Up the middle. Base hit. That was smoked through the infield. And that turns the lineup over. Well, a swing like that can help you come out of the struggle. We saw the numbers coming into the ball game, but all he’s trying to do at this point is help his team win. So, the batting order turns over now. The third baseman, Max Schuman. Swing and a ball lifted in the air. Shallow left field. Henderson makes the play. One away. Now batting number 16. Next up for the A’s, Nick Curts. Fly to left his first time. [Applause] Foul ball there. Urenas over at first with one away. And that one hammered. That’s back. And that one is gone. Touchdown Utah State Street. A gigantic blast. His 24th home run of the season. And they tack on to their lead. It’s 3 nothing. Already playing with a lead. And now they’re celebrating a home run. They’re having a great time out there. A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge, not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. Base is empty, one away. Brent Rooker up next for the A’s. Outside one and0. [Applause] One down. Base is empty. This one popped up. Holiday drops into the glove and there are two outs. It’s a good recovery though after giving up the home run. Not allowing it to stay in the head but going to work at the next hitter and a tough one at that. Two outs. Base is empty. Shay Langalers digs in now. Fly to center his first time. He’s 0 for one. Outside corner. There’s a strike. [Applause] Swanging a highf fly ball hit the air left center field. This one’s got a chance. That one carrying gone. He made him pay for that one. Home run number 20 on the year. It’s 4 nothing. With a low 90s fast ball, you have to live on the edges and hit your spots. If you don’t, you’ll get hit hard. Really good swing there. Patient, waited for it. It was like BP all over again. So, two away with nobody on. Next is the designated hitter [Applause] and that gets the inside corner for a strike. [Applause] [Applause] Two gone. Base is empty. But three runs across. We’re here in the top half of inning number three. [Applause] Hit in the air center field. Brings it in. And that is that. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working. It’s now a four nothing ball game. You’re dialed into the show as we go to the last of the third. This is Dylan Carlson. Dylan Carlson. Beo back to work and ball one to the right fielder. Swinging a foul straight back. He swings and fouls one off and they’ll do it again. Really great change of speeds. He goes off the off speed to the fast ball and the hitter doesn’t know what’s coming next. Knocks that one away and we’ll do it again. just missed. Really good take especially with two strikes. Line drive and that should be extra bases around first and hustling for second and he starts the bottom of the third with a double. showed a lot of fight with two strikes in that AB. Off the bat, it was headed for the gap all the way. And as a hitter, you love seeing those as you take your first couple of steps out of the box. You know you got some real estate to run on. And such a good feeling. Nice liner into the gap right there. Could be a chance here for them to start clawing back into this ball game. Next to hit, Kobe Mayo. First off, offering and it just misses. on the ground right side and it goes just foul man at second check swing did he go yes he did one two strikes and down on strikes. Not what you’re looking for after the leadoff double, a strike out. And there’s one away. And here’s Alex Jackson. Put that 600 slugging into context. The league average usually in the low 400s. [Applause] Pop foul out of play off to the right. Carlson the runner at second with one away. And that one is downstairs. And that is ball one. Top of the zone and it’s called a strike. Strike three and that’s two to a row. Up next for the Orioles, second baseman Jackson Holiday. So, back to the top of the Orioles lineup. Here’s the Orioles leadoff hitter, Jackson Holiday. Fly to center his first time. line drive and that should be extra bases coming home. He will score. Not stopping. He’s going for three. Wastes no time there. Just a cookie down the middle. I mean, those are the ones you dream about. Ones in the cage you’re just hoping you get in the ball game. Right down the middle. Not a whole lot of velocity. Right on top of it. So, a runner at third, two outs. Now, the number two hitter, Jordan Wester, grounded out. His first time up, sliced hard, but foul. [Applause] Here [Applause] comes the 01. Oh, that pitch it out. The guy at the plate could recognize Slider out of the hand. Didn’t stay in the tunnel very long in terms of depth and perception. He knew right away it was an offspe pitch. Two outs. Swing and a ground ball. And that one gets through into center field. The run scores from third. It’s an RBI single. It’s 42. Well, that gets him a little closer in this one. Timing on the swing was good. Able to shoot the ball up the middle. Didn’t square it up as much as he probably would have liked, but that’s a good approach paying off. And now, let’s see if they pull some action with good wheels on the bases. Gunner Henderson, the next to hit for the Orioles and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. Two runs across in the inning here in the last half of the third. [Applause] That’s inside. [Applause] And that’s pushed foul off to the left and out of play. [Applause] Sharp grounder. That’s through for base hit. Ruer puts on the brakes at second. So it’s first and second with two out. Now batting center. First and second, two outs. And into the box for Baltimore, Adley Rutman. I’m curious how he decides to attack on the mound. This guy at the plate has been great hitting under pressure this year. [Applause] And that one fouled off. Two on, two outs. [Applause] And that’s ruled the swing. It’s a strike out. So it’s two runs on four hits, no errors, and a couple left on. Three innings complete. It’s the Athletics four and the Orioles two. And we’re back onto the fourth now at the plate. Austin wins. Chris, you played here in 2002. What are the memories that stand out as to being a member of the Baltimore Orioles? For me, it was just pulling into the parking lot and having those that were there with a an encouraging smile or a pat on the back regardless of how things were going. It made it a lot easier to come to the ballpark whether you were doing well or you were struggling. And then the way that they treated your family, I mean, this is a great place to play and I’d say it’s got to be one of the top places in all of baseball. Next offering is in for a strike. And you had a cameo in the movie Moneyball as an Orioles player in a highlight clip. Next offering is down low. Good spot there, but didn’t get the strike at the knees and doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone. Two-2 now out into left center for a line drive base hit and the leadoff man aboard. Now batting shortstop Daryl Hern Daryl Hernese up next for the A’s. He’s already homered in this game. [Music] Yeah, that’s fouled off. You know, these A’s doing a good job of putting the ball into play and that makes things more challenging on the defensive side. And here’s a stat for you, Boo. They’re making contact with more than 85% of the pitches that they’re swinging at. It’s pretty special stuff. Not so good if you’re out there on the mound in the dirt and the runner holds. Wins gets his lead at first. Nobody out. [Applause] That’s ball in the dirt. Blocked. [Music] Foul ball left side. He’ll see another fly ball down the line. Carlson calls it in and there’s one away. Now batting center fielder JJ Blade. And now it’s going to be JJ Blade. 0 for one. He ground it out in his first at bat. Keep it on the ground. Delivers a pitch in for a strike at 95. Man at first, one away. [Applause] That misses the zone and they count. One and two. Stays alive. [Applause] Another one. two shots. Ball two. Got him. Swinging for the strike out. And an excellent job keeping it right there. Chris, as we look back at the pitch sequence, he hadn’t seen that curveball at all. How tough is it to adjust to something like that with a bunch of break when you haven’t had a look at it yet? Yeah, I mean, you’re dialed up for something firm. You never want to take a called third strike as a fast ball. So, you’re going to be a little anxious before you recognize the pitch. And right there, clearly didn’t see what was coming. Now, the Orioles manager is out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen. Number 63 gives way. And this is one he’d like to forget. Back with a new arm after this. Now pitching. Number 76 gets the call from the pen. Pretty tight game. So, they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. Here’s Luis Orias, one for one with a single so far. Just missed. Goes 5’9 in, 27 years old, and he’s a native of Mexico. And another ball. Well, usually a high level of confidence when you’re facing a young pitcher out there on the mound. In this situation, ahead 200, he’s put himself in a really good spot. And that’s through there for a strike. Hot shot to first base and he snags it to end the inning. The A’s strand one as they can’t add to their 4-2 lead. Bottom four. Here’s the designated hitter for the Orioles, Jeremiah Jackson. number six and a pitch smoked on the ground to second to first in time. Lead off hitter retired in the fourth. Now batting left fielder Colton Cowser. Up next, Colton Cowser struck out swinging his first time. That one way inside. Straighten him up a little bit. Base is empty. One away. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. Out towards right center. That’s well struck and an automatic double as it hops the fence. Well, there’s something really nice about getting yourself an automatic double like that. You get to stroll into second base without having to worry about a throw or getting your uniform dirty. And now you’re just looking for the next guy to kind of do the same thing. Maybe put one in the gap so you can jog home as well. One out, runner at second. And now the right fielder Dylan Carlson. A little bit high. Ball one. Let’s go. Ah, ground ball and that’s through the infield headed for the plate. He’ll score easily and it’s an RBI single and it’s a one-run game. wasting no time. He’s two for two now on the night and just a triple and home run away from the cycle. Seriously, we’re starting with this already. Kobe Mayo the next to hit for the Orioles. His first at bat was a strike out. Close but called a ball. And that’s ball one. A’s leading by a run. [Applause] And that one is in for a strike with two strikes. May see some movement over there at first base. Trying to stay out of the double play right here. That misses the zone and the count now even up. Way to lay off that pitch down [Applause] on the ground of first. Boots it and they get it. The misplay made it a bit messy, but they clean things up for the out. Oh, there’s a lot riding on that at bat right there. Nice job of the pitcher to bear down, make the pitch, get the ground ball. Excellent piece of work. And next for the Orioles, Alex Jackson in there and it’s 0 and one [Applause] outside with a breaking ball. [Applause] out to short. Tosses to first. Inning over and it could have been worse, but they pick up one run on the RBI single. It’s now a 43 ball game. It’s Major League Baseball on the show. And welcome back to the ballpark. Top five, John Chami with Chris Singleton. And leading it off, Max Schum. And that one pulled foul. You know, these athletics putting together some really good at bats in this game. There’s been a lot to like with how they’re approaching their chances at the plate. It looked to me like they really wanted to get to the starter early, get him out of the game before he settles in. So, I’d say mission accomplished. Struck him out swinging. Slider got him for a strike three. Take a look at the three pitch sequence here. pretty simple in terms of putting them away at the plate. Once you’re ahead 02 as a pitcher, you can really expand the zone and see how aggressive that hitter is going to be trying to protect and battle. And right there, clearly he was in swing mode, but all you can do is hope to foul that off. And here’s the first baseman, Nick Curts. Swinging a popup foul out of play off to the right side. That’ll find the stands. [Music] Oh yeah, let’s go. [Applause] Base knock right field for you. Takes the turn. He’s digging for second. The throw in. Not going to get him. He’s in there. Everything came together perfectly for him right there. Nice line drive to the pull side right there, but he didn’t spin off of it. That’s the key. You still have to extend through the baseball in order to hit a line drive like that. Now it’s the right fielder Brent Rooker. Not close with that one. And it’s one and0. And that gets the top of the zone for a strike. I think he was sitting off speed right there because he just let the fast ball go by. And that misses two and one. One out and a runner at second. And we’re in the top of the fifth. And there’s a foul ball. Instead of letting the hitter get his arms extended, tied him up a little bit. Slightly up, slightly in. Man at second. Swings through and that’s a strike out. He came out of his mechanics there. Typically likes to shoot the ball the other way, but that time a little anxious. [Applause] So, here’s the cleanup hitter, Shay Langalers. He’s already homerred here in this one. And that’s through their first strike. It’s 0 and one. Ruer at second. Two down. Late swing fouled off. And there’s a ball. Two strikes. Foul ball. Still a one and two count. Two outs and one in scoring position. Fouls it off. Still one and two. Man on second, two down. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Andy’s registered threeks in this one. A double in the inning, but they leave him stranded. Home half of the fifth coming up. It’s the Athletics four and the Orioles three. Bottom of the inning. Here’s the second base, Jackson Holiday. the basement. Jackson Holiday. [Applause] Swing and a highf fly ball. Well struck. That one’s deep and it’s into the bleachers. Out of here. Home run number 15 on the year. It’s 44. One pitch, one swing, one home run. Yeah, you can see that’s efficiency right there. Didn’t need much time in the box to make an impact. [Applause] Love to see a hitter aggressive on the first pitch of an at you. Watch him from the undead circle. So when you step in the box, you’re ready to pull the trigger wherever it’s at. Really good job by the hitter. Total conviction on that swing. Swing. A high fly ball. pretty well struck right field and it’s off the wall around first heading for two in safely. It’s a double and his second hit. Well, here we are. Third time through the order and this is where we see the OPS jump off. Manager might have to go to the bullpen a little bit sooner than he anticipated. Gunner Henderson the next to hit for the Orioles. One for two. [Applause] line drive caught. It’s never fun going back to the dugout after hitting a line drive that finds a glove, but you will get some high fives. You know, when you make great contact, you feel like you’ve done everything right, but in this game of baseball, not everything is in your control. So, the go-ahehead run in scoring position. Here’s Adley Rutman. And that one fouled off. As a pitcher, you know the runner on second is ready to push things with his speed. A base hit is probably going to be a big run. So, you really have to execute on the mound. [Applause] The one is outside and it’s a ball and a strike. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. Number 50 getting loose out there. Number 49, the hardth throwing right-hander up as well. [Applause] Check swing called strike. One out and a runner at second. That one outside. It’s two and two. Recognized that change up right out of the hand. Just spit on it. [Applause] Tied at four. Pitch misses. Three and two now. They’ll try to get him to go. Chase the pitch down and away, but he wouldn’t bite. Jeremiah Jackson in the on deck circle hoping to get a chance to make a big impact here. 3-2 and a swing and a miss. And he’s up to seven strikeouts. Well, that’s a blue zone right there or the cold zone on the hitting chart. Just doesn’t have much success in that part of the strike zone. And a really good job of the pitcher executing. Try to go there as often as you can. The numbers are in your favor. So, next to hit for Baltimore, Jeremiah Jackson right through there for a strike. [Applause] fought off foul [Applause] on the ground out to short. Hernandez throws the first in time and that’ll keep more runs from coming in. Inning over. Solo homer brings in one for Baltimore. All even now at four a piece. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back now at Oriel Park. And now the DH number 32. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. Let’s go. [Applause] That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. It needs to throw that breaking ball with just a little more conviction to get the swing and miss. The O2 ball one there. BS another and that’s three straight strikeouts. Well, that’s not the best two strike fast I’ve seen, but certainly got away with the location there. You know, sometimes as a hitter when you’re down in the count, you’re so focused on a pitcher painting the black and you just get a little bit locked up on something down the heart of the plate, not expecting it and it just kind of freezes you. Next offering popped in the air right field. Carlson settles underneath it. He makes the grab and a couple of quick outs. Now batting shorts stop Daryl Hern. So digging in Daryl Hern. That one finds the zone. That’s strike one. Two down, nobody on. And we’re the top half of the sixth. [Music] This one in the air. Jackson under it. Brings it in for the third out. Nothing across here this half. 6782 in the bottom of the sixth and we are tied 44. number 50 into the game. Well, I got to think he probably has a little extra in the tank facing his former team. And there’s not a player in the league that doesn’t get a little extra motivation when he plays against his old squad. And into the box for Baltimore, Colton Cowser, right? Colton Cowser and ball one. The Athletics have some bullpen action. Elvis Alvarado preparing to come on if needed. Bowden, a left-hander, also throwing. Next offering is fouled back. Pretty good pitch to take a pass at and a 10 count. Just not able to square it up. And that drops in for a strike. One ball, two strike. This guy’s seen two change ups in a row. Could be a little vulnerable for a fast ball right here. Swinging a miss. That one in the dirt. Wins, collects, fires to first in time to get him. One away in the strikeout. Right fielder. And next for the Orioles, Dylan Carlson. in there at the knees and that is strike one. Man, I mean, nice job just presenting it to be better than it actually was. And that’s a little bit high. One and one. All tied up here in the bottom of the six. Ripped but a curls foul. one and two now and downstairs [Applause] up the middle on the run. Throw to first on target. He got him. Nice play. Now batting first base. Kobe Mayo. Kobe Mayo the next to hit for the Orioles. Go for two in this one. Swing and a miss. All one’s the count. And there’s the strike. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And a nice inning of work there as he sets him down. One, two, three. Nothing doing this time around for the O’s. Score remains tied at four. Now pitching. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound. Corbin Martin. Corbin Martin. [Applause] And the batter now JJ Blade. Center fielder JJ Bladeet. In the first pitch, misses for ball one. Martin, a 6’2 righty, 225 lbs, and he found his way onto the team after being claimed off waiverss, fouls one off out of play. Back to our left. Close one. doesn’t get the call. Two and one. That’s good pitch there. Really had some run and finished little up and end just on the edge. And that’s one of those if you swing at it, hit a broken bat as you jog back to the dugout. Tied at four. Good eye on that spot. Swinging a ground ball up the middle on the run. sends it over to first. Safe. He beats it out and the go-ahead run is on to start the inning. It doesn’t really matter where you are in the lineup. Your job is to get on base and try to start a rally if you’re leading off an inning. So, an infield single does the job right there. Now, we’ll see if they can make something happen. Go ahead run on base. Luis Rias up next for the A’s. Swinging a ball hit out towards left center field. And that’ll fall for a base hit. throw holds him at second, but the go-ahead run now in scoring position and still nobody out. First pitch swinging, went up there with a plan to be aggressive. Hooked around that pitch on the outside, but he was still able to square it up pretty nicely. And that takes quick, strong wrist to pull that off. Really important at bat coming up now. And here is Max Schuman. Struck out on just three pitches last time. And that one is inside ball one. And the one and that one lifted in the air center field. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. And that is a big first out. Now that number 16, Nick Curts now at the plate. We just might be talking about this at bat in our postgame rap. He’s proven he can drive in runs in these spots. First pitch and he just misses on the ground. The third might be two. Here’s Holiday for one. Throw to first, but he beat it. Well, that’s great hustle out of the box to get down the line knowing that a double play will end the inning. Good job at the finish reaching out for the bag. Now they got runners on the corners and still an opportunity to pick up some runs. [Applause] 10 in the dirt. Save. Nobody on defense feels great right now. The pitcher feels responsible for missing so far outside and the catcher wishes he could have done more to try to stop him with a go ahead run at third here in the top half of inning number seven and fouled off that one off the mark. Now two balls in a strike and a breaking ball drops in for a strike. Wow, that’s 89 on the gun and it’s a change up. It’s like good hitting if you’re looking for it, but because of the speed differential between the fast ball and that pitch, really hard for a hitter to get on time with it. Holiday squeezes it and that’s the third out. A strand a couple. This game’s all tied at four. [Music] set for the last half of the seventh. Now the Orioles catcher, Alex Jackson. Jackson fouled off down the right side. There’s the strike. misses off the play and the count is one and two. That one missing inside. [Applause] Spoils that one and it remains two and two. keeps the bat going with a foul ball. I got three and two. [Applause] That one misses. So lead off walk. Well, that’s a nice job of grinding out that at bat. Saw a lot of pitches and ends up drawing the wall. Very gritty. So, back to the top of the order. Jackson Holiday getting ready to hit. [Applause] There’s the strike. Man, he really sells the change up with that arm action. That’s off the inside corner and now it’s even one and one. You don’t want to get beat by a fast ball end and he spits on that one and that is out of play. Oh, he doesn’t get the call and it’s to a two. That’s one you always want as a pitcher. Down at the knees and it looks to me like he’s barking. That’s a strike. Doesn’t change the call, but sometimes it helps to let that frustration out a little bit. [Applause] That’s down and in. Still just the second batter of the inning. And on the mount, he’s already thrown 13 pitches. They got him working hard out there. outside and that is ball four. And with two outs, the go-ahead run is at second base. So next a hit for Baltimore, Jordan West. [Music] [Applause] Slashed foul down the right side. And that’ll hook off into the seats [Applause] the 01. That’s a little bit low. Home plate umpires trying to tighten things up a little bit. [Applause] Late swing fouled off with the go-ahead run standing at second near the bottom of the seventh. missed with a change up and the count’s even at two. Two walks in the inning already and he just doesn’t seem comfortable out there like he can find the right mechanics and then repeat them. Swing and a ball popped up and it falls. The run comes in from second. It’s an RBI single and they take the lead in the seventh. We don’t see this a whole lot anymore where hitters with two strikes are willing to shorten up, tighten up, and try to hit the ball back up the middle other way. He was trying to hit that hole, I believe. Very good at bat with two strikes. So, runners at the corners, nobody out. And into the box for Baltimore, Gunnar Henderson, one for three. The shorts stop takes the ball in the infield at the corners. Don’t be surprised to see them come home first and prevent that run from scoring. [Applause] [Music] Tough spot right here. Couple runners on two ball count. You can’t nibble, but you have to execute and finish your pitch. If you leave something out over the plate, it’s going to bring in some runs. [Applause] Next offering is in for a strike. In today’s game, not that many fast ball counts, but hitters still in the back of their minds. They’re looking for one. Two change up call right there. Excellent pitch selection to go with. Rolled to short. Possible two ball to second for one. How about that double play? Oh man, what a smooth double play. That was a thing of beauty from start to finish. And now the center fielder, Adley Rutman, 0 for three with three strikeouts. That one finds a corner. That’s strike one. Holiday at third with two away. [Applause] And that’s off the inside edge and a count even. One and one. [Applause] Urias fires over to first. They limit the damage here. So, one run in the inning on this base hit. It’s now a 54 ball game. Back after this on the show. Here’s the left fielder, Shay Langalers. He blasted one out earlier in the third. Just a solo home run, but an important swing of the bat in this game. We’ve already seen him do it once. Can he do it again? Martin back to work. That pitch clips the outside corner. Strike one. Activity in the bullpen. Year Canó the closer is getting loose. Aken the lefty warming up as well. [Applause] Looking to get the tying run on base. Tap foul at the plate. [Applause] Highfly ball out to left field. Cowser gets there. He’s under it. He’s got it. And there’s one down. Just pulled off of it a little bit right there. That front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed. If he does that, he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left. [Music] And that one is lifted in the air. Cowser on the move to the gap. And there’s two down. Now batting catcher Austin wins. Austin wins up next for the A’s. First pitch just misses. And another ball. Swinging a foul straight back. Fast ball is outside. Daryl Hern would be next if they can extend the inning. And he’s homered already. So I’m sure he’d love a chance to do some more damage here. Two down. Doan. That’s to third. And that goes foul. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. Two outs. Swinging a foul ball at the plate. They’ll do it again. Good battle here. About to be the eighth pitch of the at bat. Gets a piece and stays alive. [Applause] Hard ground ball. Base knock. He saw a lot of pitches in that at bat and found a way to win the battle. Just a great at bat right there. Saw a lot of pitches. Really good swing right there. He got a pitch that he knew he could handle. Allowed himself to stay back just a tad bit longer and he hit the ball on the screws. So Marse going with a pinch hitter here. Lawrence Butler. He represents the go-ahead run. [Applause] and a good fast ball to start him off. That’s strike one. In this situation, hitter knows that he’s got to find a pitch that he can drive in order to drive in that tying run all the way from first base. So, if he can’t do that, keep the line moving through a walk or just a base hit. But you got to stay within yourself outside with a breaking ball. [Applause] Swing and a tapper and that one handled. They take the force out and that is that the A’s strand one. They trail it 54. [Applause] Now pitching for back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. Elvis Alvarado gets an opportunity to square off against his former team. So I wouldn’t be surprised if he came out a little extra jacked up right here. Gioella, he’s the new shortstop as he comes in as a defensive replacement here. Number 13. Well, one-run game. Now it’s the DH Jeremiah Jackson 0 for three in this one. number six and first offering is fouled off and that one is inside. That two seam fast ball is usually coupled with a slider away. And when a hitter is conscious of the pitch in, it’s hard for him to cover middle away. And that’s where a pitcher can really finish off that batter. And that one hit to first. A sliding stop and they get the out. Now batting left fielder Colton Cowser. Colton Cowser the next to hit for the Orioles. That one finds the zone. 0 and one. 0 and one. Let’s go. Hurry up. [Music] And that’s in the dirt. The A’s bullpen has some movement. Number 49, the hardthrowing righty is up and loosening. Base is empty, one away here in the bottom half of the eighth inning. He goes down looking. Well, he’s going to have some thinking to do when he leaves the ballpark after this one. That was his third strike out and this one looking obviously. So, he’s been a little overmatched. She’s got to find a way just to be more competitive up there at the plate. Carlson stands in with two away as he takes a ball. Two balls, no strikes to count. Two balls, no strike. Just off the inside edge. Boom. He never moved cuz he never had time to. But that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. That one catches the zone. And now three and one. ripped on a line to center. Leay makes the catch and that will end the inning. Three up, three down for the Orioles. They lead it 5-4. Now pitching. We’re back and on the bound is the closer Year Cano. He comes in with a chance for his second save of the season. So now a pitch hitter Tyler Silver. Last chance for him here. Hoping he can be a catalyst for some type of ninth inning comeback. [Applause] First pitch doesn’t find the zone. [Applause] Hey, swaging a drive deep left field. That one carrying pulls it in on the warning trap. Now batting second base. He’s two outs away. Luis Ras up next for the A’s. [Applause] And that’s in there for strike one. So many hard throwing relievers in the game these days. You would think that hitters have made the adjustment, but I don’t know if you ever get used to it. Just pumping gas out of the bullpen. So hard to play catchup. One-run game here in the top of the ninth. That one misses. And that’s ball three. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. Very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with the 3-1 count. A little out front there as he swings through. It’s a tough pitch, but in terms of the best pitch you’re going to get to hit in the at bat, that fast ball was down enough where you’re going to catch up to one. That’s the one. When she elevates, guys aren’t touched. They’re not ready to go home quite yet. Making a move at first. Pinch running here for the Athletics. And now Max Schuman. [Applause] Close one. Doesn’t get the call. Ball one. It’s getting squeezed a little bit here late. And that’s off the outside edge and the count is 2 and0. Crowd locked in right now. One-run game here in the ninth. Breaking ball just down and away. At this point in the game, you cannot issue free passes. He’s going to have to challenge this hitter. Hitter’s got to be ready to swing it. That one’s in there and the count is three and one. Trying to close out a one-run lead here in the top of the ninth. Moved to first and he dives back in safely. [Applause] Strike two. Good approach right there. You want to get something just a little higher that you can elevate. Stay out of that double play. called four. He walked in and that’ll keep the line moving. Walks out of the bullpin can absolutely kill your momentum very quickly. They’re in some hot water trying to protect this lead. So the tying run in scoring position now. Nick Curts up next for the A’s. [Applause] Late swing fouled to the left. Well, comfortable or not, these are the situations closers they seem to live for. I mean, you get into some hot water, a jam, tough spot, whatever you want to call it, but this is where they earn their keep. One out. The possible tying and go ahead runs on base. Down the line and it’s fouled. hit on the ground to the right side. There’s one out back to the pitcher covering. Double play and that’s the ball game. Well, looked like the pitcher was getting into a little trouble there, but quickly brought out a pitch that isn’t what most hitters are looking for with that great velocity, but it was really good movement on the change up and a nice win today. Close one here today and your final 54 as the Orioles win this one for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding
