UDFA Guard Joe Huber Makes a STATEMENT for the Minnesota Vikings

[Music] What’s going on Jeromes? So this off seasonason the Minnesota Fighting Vikings made a concerted effort to have the meats in both trenches Dline and especially O line of course adding Dynam Jackson for real in the first round but also shelling out some guaranteed money with the undrafted free agents. Enter one Joe Huber from Wisconsin/ Cincinnati made a big time difference. huge monstrous game uh in the first preseason tilt against the Texans uh definitely stood out and you know PFF loved him as well. Uh Max Chadwick highest graded rookies from yesterday’s preseason action number one jumping Joe Huber. That’s right. And also yes every person whose name starts with a J or a G that sounds like a Jumping. That’s right. Uh Joe Joe Huber at 94.7. Uh the fan also Willie Lanin with the Rams. Uh, the pride of UNCC. I wanted him so bad. I wanted him so bad. I was gonna turn him into a fullback. Come on, man. It’s a good time. Deion Walker, the massive size nose tackle from Kentucky. Let’s go. Uh, so basically, bunch of my draft crushes did well. That’s right. And Huber. So, yes, stupid Badger, right? Also, I I gotta watch myself sometimes because I know especially like when we’re talking about uh some of the, you know, Fringe 90man roster guys, practice squad guys, like you know, their parents are watching this. I just like Yeah. But again, I’m not really a Gophers fan. I just hate the Badgers and the Hawkeyes. It actually see uh actually kind of sets the ball up where mainly I I don’t like the Badgers because they they claimed NC State Russell Wilson Russ was here and also a lot of Packers fans are Badgers fans. So no, but overall like I I don’t mind Wisconsin Badgers football, right? Like Ron Dayne from back in the day, Barry Alvarez doing some good things. Uh uh little Jimmy Leonard. He’s good stuff. Oh, Jim Leonard should have been named head coach, not Luke Fickle. But I digress. Luke Fickle trying to run the spread with Wisconsin, the land of 17,000 tight ends, but whatever. Uh but Huber, back on topic. Uh and yes, I I removed the logo. Uh but Huber uh put up uh good numbers at the combine. Uh 898 RA, you know, he’s 65 310, all that stuff. So he checks the boxes there. And Huber coming out, he was 23 years young. Uh played at Cincinnati for two years and then transferred to Wisconsin like we mentioned 76.2 PFF pass by grade in 2024. Only one sack allowed in two seasons at Wisconsin. Now you also have to factor in the offensive philosophy shift over the last couple years of Wisconsin. So, also does have right guard, left guard, right tackle, and a little little there’s a little kicking, a little center experience, uh, during his time at Madison as well as in Cincy. Uh, 210K guaranteed as a UDFA. It’s pretty good. Pretty good case, uh, for the former Badger and Huber. Uh, so here’s the thing, too, like preseason as you’re watching in real time, you know, you know, most of us watch the ball. Like, I certainly do. That’s why on rewatch, whether it’s a TV broadcast, whether it’s all 22, then you can really dig down in to who did well in the trenches, right? And it’s kind of tough to assess things on the fly unless someone looks really bad. Like, it’s kind of funny. You you know a bad offensive line play is right away. Uh but good offensive line play is when you don’t hear a player’s name called, right? You don’t hear the offensive line name called or the defensive player um that you know it’s lined up against them, you don’t hear them, it’s good. But on rewatch, you can pick up on some good things, right? So, uh 94.7 PFF grade, best on team at best of all the rookies in week one preseason. 55 snaps all at right guard. So, uh he he came in right after Will Fry and the first series. So, so they definitely wanted to get an extended look at Huber at that right guard spot. Uh also 93.9 run blocking grade. One of the big reasons why Xavier Scott was able to get a little bit loose, right? And also, you know, two pressures and a sack allowed. I mean the the sack was sort of whatever they had to blame it on somebody but overall uh I think he did well where you know some couple of traits you know head on a swivel looking for work and he definitely if you took the name off the jersey he did not look like an undrafted rookie certainly and yes you do have to factor in okay playing with the twos and threes against twos and threes you know whatever but football is still football at at a fundamental level he did not look fooled uh by some of the the stunts and twists up front, which is good. He was definitely a road grader in the run game. He was good to man. He was good in zone when they busted out the vanilla run schemes. Solid anchor, wasn’t overwhelmed, you know, just wasn’t torqued up in one-on-one spots. Uh played with good leverage as well. Uh definitely moved uh decently. He wouldn’t be a hindrance in outside zone or pulling in man. Also, good comms cuz he had Jurgens at center most of the game. He had Coral for a couple snaps before Coral unfortunately got hurt. Then you had Brandle uh and Rouse over the right tackle spot. Same thing with Logan Brown. Uh so overall there wasn’t any drop off in comms there, which is good to see because you know if if Hubert can rise up and be a decent backup, you know, be a swing backup like we said has both guard, right tackle, and a little bit of center experience. I mean that that would be monstrous for the Vikings. And as of right now, I don’t know because generally offense a team’s carry nine offensive linemen on the 53. I mean, Huber definitely is a practice squad can candidate, but is it a spot where if he performs really well in the joint practices coming up and he’s going to get a lot of run these last two preseason games? Do teams try and snatch him up if the Vikings try to get him through waiverss onto the practice squad? Uh, so right now I would say you’re obviously Darasaw’s good to go. nine on the pup. So Darasaw, Jackson, Kelly, Fry, O’Neal, that’s your starters. School, you’re keeping Jurgens, you’re keeping Brle, you’re keeping. So that’s eight. And then it comes down to Rouse, Bird, and Huber, and Logan Brown potentially. So could be a numbers crunch there. But it’s definitely a good problem to have. Also, I I feel like just watching his film, like I I can never explain why why some things work for me, but all I see is Joe Berser, you know? Uh he was a six round pick out of Michigan Tech back in the day. No one even knows where Michigan Tech is. Actually, no. Our comments always work like this. like I I’ll poo poo like some small school and then we’ll have literally the most famous um most famous alumni be like actually Michigan Tech is from whatever. Yeah. But Joe Berser uh who bounced around the league for a number of years, he went to uh he was a Tony Spirano guy. It was great. So he was with Dallas and then Miami and all that stuff. Came to the Vikings and you can make a very good case that in the 2010s Joe Burgers was the best and most consistent offensive lineman for the Vikings. You really could. All right, because remember Hutchinson left after 2011, one of the two. But I mean, Berser, you know, playing center, playing guard, like he he he was a rock solid tough ass meat and potatoes type offensive lineman. And that’s the sort of vibe you get uh when you’re watching Joe Huber out there. So overall, like very impressive. And also, you know, reports of him in practice have have been pretty solid as well. And you know, obviously the Vikings believe with a 210 guaranteed. And let’s see it in joint practice. Let’s see it in two more preseason games. Let’s keep things clean where we can finally have a treasure trove of offensive linemen with Jackson and Fry and Jurgens and Huber. Let’s go. Let’s go, man. Anyways, your thoughts, our thoughts. Joe Huber season absolutely is, man. Let us know your thoughts comments section. You guys are the best. You know what to do. Skull production value.

  1. Allowed only one sack in the last two seasons in Wisconsin! How does this guy get overlooked? Highest PFF grade for the weekend. This guy NEVER makes it through waivers and if we try to sneek him on the practice squad we deserve to loose him.

  2. I think they should only the second and third teams now, until game one. Find out who is the QB 3 and players. I like what I am hearing about this man.

  3. Definitely have planted the seeds for the future of the OL. Question is, Will we get pillaged from our practice squad? Only so many can make the 53 man roster.

  4. Good on Huber! 👍 Also, he looks like he could add some more muscle to that big frame. If he does that while maintaining his ability to move & keep his balance, and he continues to refine his craft & learn the offence, he may be a keeper as a backup RG with some ability to play other positiions.🤞 Kudos to Kwesi A-M for bringing in a lot of guys for all three phases of the game – newbies who have done a good job in their first training camp with the Vikes, and have fit into the team culture & locker room atmosphere as well. 👍 Last, given that a lot of our O-line prospects have been practicing & playing well, (kudos to the new O-line coach…), I hope KOC gives Huber, Rouse, Jergens, Brown, Skule, etc. some time against the Patriots' first-string defenders during joint practice(s) to see just how far they've progressed.
    p.s. RIP Tony Sparano…. 😢
