That ball hit in the air to left field and Bregman has returned to Houston with a home run into the Crawford boxes. A familiar sight that Astros fans have seen so many times. Tonight, the first time they’re not happy about it. It’s two nothing Red Sox. Trevor Story pops up the first pitch he sees. Yanner Diaz has room near the on deck circle and puts it away. Ground ball the other way. Tough play, Kareah. A backhand throw on the money. What a play by Carlos. A tough play to get a Breu for the second out. Got him. Couldn’t connect on the breaking ball and Javier gets out of the inning. Pena goes after the 01 pitch and pops it into shallow right. Back on it is Gonzalez called off by Abrau and Willard makes the play. [Applause] 99 right there. Called third for Crochet’s first strike out of the night. Walker goes after that 02 pitch and strikes out. So that’ll be the second strike out for Crochet in the first inning. Astros down two nothing. 15. That ball hit high in the air to right. Cam Smith going back. That ball’s got some carry, but does not carry deep enough. out number one in the inning. Wow. No chance for even Yiner to think about a throw as Raphaela got a huge jump. 13 months in 21 days and now he has Raphaela picked off. Raphaela tried the same thing that he did off of first base and now he’s hung up and he’ll be tagged out by Carlos Koreah. Christian Javier didn’t fool for that same trick twice. get the Red Sox catcher. Try to hold up on a pitch down. They’re going to say swing. Narvay isn’t even going to try to attempt to go to first, so he vacates home plate. And that’ll be a strikeout to end the inning. Yer goes down on strikes. That is now three strikeouts for Crochet of his four outs. That one’s in play. Third baseman Alex Bregman coming down the line. And he makes the call and makes the catch in foul territory. You hear him turning or you can see him turning it up cuz the crowd’s making some noise here as Bregman sends one to left and Duban makes a sliding catch and that’s the biggest ovation of the night so far from the home crowd as Bregman retired for the second out. Cam towards the line and left hooking and falling and it’s a fair ball. Cam Smith into second base. The Astros have their first runner in scoring position. Ground ball towards the hole. Through the hole. Cam being held up. Throw coming home by Jiren Durant. It’ll be first and third with one out. Ground ball. Base hit. Cara comes through with an RBI single. Cam Smith crosses the plate. It’s two to one. has done such a good job of going the other. Walker smokes one to center field. Back goes Raphael looking up. It’s off the wall. One run scores. Here comes Koreah. The throw will not be in time. 32 Astros. Next pitch is 53. That ball hit to the right side played there by Romy Gonzalez to retire Yiner Diaz. But a good inning as the Astros score. Ground ball right there is Jeremy Payne. Good thing Javier didn’t deflect that one. There’s the first out of the inning. Room in the rotation for him. Tried to hold off. That’s a swing and they’re going to tag out Toro at the plate for the final out. Christian that ball down the line and left and that’ll be a fair ball into the wall. Ninth pitch of the at bat and Raone Oriz has himself a double to lead off the fourth. Little frustrating at bat for Mauricio. [Applause] First one of 25 is off the community leaderboard. Chasmanian Devil circling the bases. It’s five to two Astros. What is she? Ground ball towards short. Story goes to second. pain you will be able to beat. No throw coming from the second baseman Gonzalez. Got him. Sweeper down. Kareah strikes out. But another good inning for the Astros. Into center. Back goes McCormack. Still going back near the wall. And he has retired all three the last two on strikeouts. Caleb Hort on the ground is short. Could be two. They flip it quickly to second. Wide throw and P is still tagged out. Gonzalez’s throw was recognized before the game. This ball hit high in the air deep to right field. Cam Smith will go all the way back to the wall, but this one’s into the bullpen. Abraham Toro hits home run number seven on the year. He had like a stable of horses. This ball drilled to left field. And this is going to be in the corner there. Duban will watch it rattle around. Sedon Raphaela heading to third. He’ll now head back to second. Good play by Duban getting the ball back in. Raphaela has already made an out on the bases. That ball golf toward the corner and right. That’ll be down for a hit. One hopped into the corner in play. Cam Smith will get it back in quickly. Couple of two out runs for the Red Sox and made it a seven to four game. Yoshida coming off the bench for a pinch hit double including this seventh for the Red Sox. That ball sky high and deep to right field. And we have a one-run game if this ball goes. And it does. Roman Anthony on a two- two pitch connects into the Astros bullpen. All this coming with two outs. The Red Sox have scored four runs and made it a 76 game. Ground ball to second. Aras is there. He’ll flip it to first. Astros get out of the inning, but a lot of damage done by the Red Sox in those two appearances. Two pitches in and two outs. Jos Altve grounds one to Alex Bregman. four consecutive extra base hits making this a one-run game. And Whitlocks is Whitlock’s going to have a clean bottom of the seventh inning here with a fly out and a couple of ground outs. We head to the eighth. 76. Story pops one high in the air. Shallow center actually in right center where Cam Smith takes charge and makes the catch for the first down. The Astros coming in at 66 and 52. Mariners 66 and 53. That ball hit high in the air to deep right center, but playable for Chaz McCormick. He tells Cam, “I’ve got it.” And Cam backs off for the second out. San Diego Atlanta. There goes the runner. The throw is on the money. Yer Diaz the big throw out getting Romy Gonzalez on a caught stealing and that ends the inning. Against a tough pitcher to get Diaz. Julio chops the first one. Bregman bare hands. He’s doing it tonight with the bat and now with the bare hand. That one’s popped up beyond first. The new first baseman Gonzalez who was at second and now the first baseman puts it away. Runner goes. Doesn’t matter. That’s strike three. Whitlock strikes out the two pitch hitters. Sanchez and Charma will head to the ninth. Sounds about right. Ground ball to short. Pñena one away in the inning. Good first out. One-two pitch popped up. Pñena is going to get there. Tells Jesus Sanchez, “I’ve got it.” And he does for the second out. Ground ball towards the hole off of Pñena and into shallow left field. Wong is going to head to second. He’ll be a two out base runner. That might have been a tough play, but Pñena couldn’t come up with it cleanly. Big swing. No contact. One-on-one. 96 for a strike. Got him. Ball game over. 76 Astros. Bennett Susa. Save number four on the year. They didn’t have their leverage guys at the back end of the pen.

  2. Man, this is (unfortunately) concerning for fans of Crochet and the Red Sox.
    Pulled after 86 pitches (4.0 IP) is, honestly, the right move by Cora, but if Crochet (who has already surpassed his previous single-year high number of innings pitched) is showing signs of fatigue, now, then (again, unfortunately) the Sox simply don’t have the quality of starting pitching needed to make a real September/October push.
