The Minnesota Vikings Have A STAR In Gabe Murphy… | Film Analysis |
The Minnesota Vikings have just completed their first preseason game of the year when they took on the Houston Texans. And in this game, a couple of guys looked really good. We started to see or we got to see the first game back of JJ McCarthy. He will be their starter this season. But defensively, there was a couple of guys who really stood out to me. One of them is Gabe Murphy. This defensive end, I mean, man, was he explosive in this game. And what I wanted to do specifically in this video was break down everything we saw out of him, right? He’s more of this five technique lineup outside of the tackle. Uh but he’s got a great combination of hand quickness, uh foot speed, but also he can bend. Man, this dude can fly off the edge. And we’re going to break down everything you need to know, including this first play here. So on this first play, we’re going to get a little bit of preset motion here by the wide receiver. Now, the offensive line is going to be in what we call a fiveman scap protection, and they are sliding to the right side, which means from the center over, they’re sliding this way. They’ve got man-to-man to the left, which forces us or allows us to understand that we have a one-on-one here with Gabe Gabe Murphy. Okay, first thing he’s going to do, he’s going to slap down. He’s going to use his off hand. He’s going to slap down the hand, right, of the the left tackle’s hand. Now, as that happens, you’re gonna see him kind of right rip through, lower his center of gravity, and speed through for a sack. This We’re gonna watch the other angle as well, but this dude looks like he could be a factor within this football team almost right away. This dude is nasty. Look at this, right? Look at him lower his center of gravity, right? We want to get underneath that left shoulder pad of the left tackle. And that’s exactly what he does. Explodes through with the sack. This dude was a beast during this game. I want to break down some of his film. Before we dive in, I want you to comment down below a couple of other names that you want me to break down from this first preseason game. Also, hit the like button, subscribe to the channel if we can get over, let’s say, 600 likes on this video. We will be posting a part two on whoever else you want me to break down. And let’s just dive right in. Here’s the other angle of this thing. I really just want you guys really be able to see it here. Again, another really good one. you get that priest that motion. And once again, I feel like these running backs should always be chipping and then releasing. But for whatever reason, they don’t want the running back to chip and release. And when you don’t chip and release, right, you’re going to get this. Look at the hand. The hand slap here, right? He does it very quickly. Boom. Slap that thing down. Then he gets low. Gets really, really low, breaks through, and then ultimately comes away with the sack. Beautiful job, dude. Another play here. I’m actually going to move my camera to the left side. Now, here’s one where he displays really good hand strength, hand power. So, look at this. They’re covering up the A gap. They’re actually going to drop that guy back into coverage. We’re going to once again, the offensive line is sliding to the left. Okay, you got man-to-man to the right. This is a situation you do not like to see if you are an opposing team. Why are we leaving this guy in one-on- ons? Well, they just don’t know who he is yet. And they will. They will soon. I guarantee it. Um, and here’s another one. Right, comes in. He’s going to utilize that hand strength. Swat down both hands of the right tackle and rip through for a pressure. Does hit the quarterback. They end up picking up a good chunk of yards on this play. But all we’re really looking at here is can he get pressure on the quarterback? Can he force bad throws, uh, bad decisions, interceptions, force fumble, sacks, right? Can he get that pressure on the quarterback? And the answer is yes. The answer is yes. This dude is a freak of nature. Um he looked great during this game. I know they ended up getting a nice little completion right there. I actually do want to look at Dallas Turner on this. He’s on the other side. He gets a one-on-one as well. He’s the same thing. Very quick. These guys are both very explosive off the line of scrimmage. Vikings are in really good hands, man. All right. So, what have we seen so far? We’ve seen a one-hand slap down, speed through, bend around the edge. We’ve seen more of a double slap down and then just explode once again off the edge. Now, let’s see what else is in this man’s bag. Again, lined out as a five technique way out wide. Um, you know, he’s he wants to utilize that speed. But when you line up this wide, um, you get that unpredictable factor of, you know, you can either explode off that edge like he’s been doing or you can kind of switch it up and maybe use that drive strength, right, that power um, to drive back. And that’s that’s exactly what he does here. So watch this one. And let’s see what this offensive line’s in. They’re probably in a fiveman scan. They’re sliding away. They’re sliding away. They’re not understanding that you are going to need another guy. You need to slide this way. And the reason they don’t is because they have a running back over here that can help out. But why? He’s never chipping. Chip off Gate Murphy. Disrespect, man. Uh but again, instead of going to the outside, look at him engage with the left arm and then look at the leg strength here to drive back into the backside of the quarterback. Another pressure there again. They pick up a couple of yards on the little dump down. This is a guy that can answer the question, can you get pressure? Answer is yes, man. Now again, before you get any further, hit that like button for more of these videos, updates, analysis videos, right? But also, most importantly, make sure you guys are subscribed. It is free. It doesn’t cost anything. And we will be covering this Minnesota Vikings team throughout the entirety of not only preseason, but the regular season as well, breaking down film for individual players, right? Uh for offense, for defense, whatever you guys want to see. Make sure you guys join the family. Turn on your post notifications as well. That way you’re notified every time we post a Vikings video. When it comes to to Gay Murphy here, this dude is a freak of nature that can do multiple different things. Whether it’s off the edge, power through a tackle, guy is going to be a priority. You know what’s funny about him? He is relentless. He’s got a really high motor and he will do whatever it takes. He reminds me a little bit of Austin Booker, the Bears a little bit because that dude is also really good, really underrated. But both these guys are really going to make a mark on their teams this year. And I feel like people are going to really understand who they are and they’re going to be household names right now. He’s lined up as a nine technique, which essentially means way outside of that tight end. We can’t even see him on the field right now. That’s how far out, right? Again, they want to utilize that speed. Let’s see what the offensive line is in this time. Are they going to slide maybe to his side? And they do. Okay, so they finally um slide this thing to his side of the field. Now they understand, okay, we might need to chip. We might need to throw a body at him really quick before his pass rush starts. That’s what they do. They chip him with the tight end. Okay. What’s crazy about this? When you get chipped and you’re playing a nine technique, the the chances you get to the quarterback are probably slim because not only are you way outside, you’re farther away from the quarterback, but then you’re getting hit before you get hit by the tackle, right? So, it’s kind of crazy, right? So, he gets hit, he gets drawn way outside. Now, look at this. Right? He just he runs right by that tackle and ends up getting a sack here. believe that the knee was down. But again, when when you get chipped and you still are able to outrun this tackle. The reason they chip, by the way, guys, is so the tackle can get into position to guard this thing, right? Not only does he not get in position, but he gets blown right by because of the speed. Look at him. Boom. Turns on the jets. Watch him accelerate, right? He’s going to go slow, slow, slow. Boom. pick up the pace when he sees the lane to go and ends up getting this sack right here. Guy’s good, man. This guy’s good. I’m excited about Gabe Murphy. I think I’m going to end the video here. He had a incredible game here with the Vikings. Let me know what you guys think. Hit the like button, subscribe, join the family, turn on post notifications for more Minnesota Viking updates, and let me know who you want me to break down next. It could be anybody. offense, defense, O line, D line, DB, quarterback, it don’t it don’t matter. Let me know and we’ll do it. Um, see you in the next one.

He's not too bad for an UDFA
RB Zavier Scott looked pretty good as well.

Elijah Williams
Is that Gabe Murphy or Lawrence Taylor?
Bro it’s been so long haven’t been on channel in awhile !
He might have better bend than Greenard
Now do a Jay Ward #24 video. Dude was a rocket and in on every major hit. He was destroying people in tackles.
Turner showed NOTHING in this game, he was sleep walking.
Hopefully, he can stay healthy. He potentially may outplay Turner and get more snaps because of it.
I am more excited bye Murphy than Turner
Max Brosmer, Zavier Scott & Dallas Turner.
