Michael Porter Jr. on sports gambling:

“Think about it if you can get all your homies rich by telling yo bet 10K on my under..this one game imma act like I got an injury and they all get a lil bag ..some people come from nothing & they think like that.”

  1. Yeah – gambling is pushed on everyone. Worst thing to happen to pro sports.

  2. He’s not lying. There will be more sports gambling scandals involving players. Adam Silver opened the league up to that.

  3. I really enjoy how he frames this as “some people” when the person in question is his own brother.

  4. That’s a nice hypothetical. Now what happened to your brother who came from an upper* middle class life and did that scheme with some random dudes from NY?

  5. “some people….like say my brother who did exactly this, but definitely not me….think this way”

  6. Pretty sure everyone already knows this.

A lot of athletes come from nothing. Throughout their school years, they are pretty much allowed to get away with anything because of their athletic ability. Then they enter the real world. They think they can keep doing whatever they want.

  7. The headline literally takes out the part where he says “that’s not okay” that’s messed up bro

  8. He’s 100% correct. Nothing good comes from gambling. Now you mix that in with the passion people have for sports and the big monetary divide in the country. My goodness it’s a messy and truly disconcerting predicament.

  9. People are quick to react negatively to his words because of the antivax stuff but he makes a good point here. He is literally in the nba and knows these people.

  10. People aren’t going to like this truth but the regulation of gambling has actually helped a lot with catching these people. Even though it was much harder to places bets in the past, there was virtually no way of catching the players.

But with that said the advertisement of gambling is extremely out of hand and needs to get fixed quickly

  11. in this thread – fools who didn’t listen to the whole clip but just read the clickbait headline

he says its wrong and bad but understands where some guys are coming from

he also mentions the death threats and how players can’t really win if they do well or not ,someone gets mad

  12. the truth is he has a point. nothing he said was false. doesn’t make it legal. but I get it.

  13. no matter how you preface it a guy who has career earnings of over 7 million dollars risking his career for a few extra bucks will never make any sense. if you want to help your friends out i think you’ve made ample enough to do that without any illegal activity involved

  14. Man if your brother got got for prop bets, you’d wanna defend him too.

I’ve not heard anything that outrageous from MPJ. I don’t get why people are hating so hard.

  15. Unpopular (maybe?) take, but sports gambling should *never* have been re-legalized the way it has. It has created scandals that effected the integrity of sports in the past, and it will again.

  16. I used to be really libertarian on issues like gambling and marijuana. Now I realize how corrosive they are to society.

  17. I’m not gonna pretend to know how his taxes work but I think MPJ makes enough money to just give his friends $10k each instead of joining Jontay in NBA exile

  18. OMG his brother is banned for life for doing this. It’s the most easy thing for the sports books to catch you and ur friends doing. Simply because they don’t realize that putting hundreds of thousands of dollars on an player prop under on a Tuesday night game in the middle of the season for a player most people don’t bet on often REALLY STANDS OUT to sports books as odd behavior.

  19. If they weren’t so dumb and didn’t leave a digital trail that anyone could follow, they could have totally gotten away with it.

  20. He’s just saying the obvious and good for him. I called it 4 years ago when draft kings was getting huge. But Heyy we can’t play online poker WHERE WE HAVE FUCKING CONTROL of how we play unlike sports betting professionally
