Hello everybody and welcome back to Blue Jay’s Today where today guys we’ve got another live playbyplay and reaction brought to you by the Blue Jays. Today, boys, we start a brand new series against the Chicago Cubs. A pretty damn good team over there in the National League. So, they’re not going to be easy to beat. We’re going to start this one off. We’ve got a good matchup here, guys. They are a good team. They got Cal Tucker over there. They got some young guns in that lineup, and they got guys who can hit home runs. So, we got to quiet it down and we got to do some work. Let’s get this W get Let’s get this W going here, everybody. Big series. I’m your host Adam Pettle and I’m your host Nicholas Playalog. Yeah, Chicago is not a walkover team at all folks. They are 67 and 50. They are one of the better squads over there in the National League. And I know a lot of people over there in Cubby land are thinking that this is the best shot that they’ve had since Chris Bryant, since Anthony Rizzo, since Javier Bayz was good at baseball. And it’s probably true. They are definitely a good squad and their roster, some might even argue on paper, is better than the Toronto Blue Jays. However, we are at home. We just came off of a big win to avoid the sweep over there in LA. They had the off day as well. So, bullpen’s going to be rested, which is very, very important. I’m feeling like Toronto is going to come out swinging. Let’s get into those lineups though, team. Leading off for your Toronto Blue Jays, you’ve got Nathan Lucas, Bobette at shortstop, Vladimir Greg at first base who’s been absolutely cooking. That was your Jay of the week. We got someone in the comments saying, “Vlatty going to smash Placatas.” That’s by Jen Schwan. Shout out. Yes, he will. I think he’s going to smash at least one in this series. That’s how good he’s been. This guy too smashes a lot of homers. Addison Barer, he’s in right field today. Alejandro Kirk doing the catching duty. A little bit cold for Alejandro Kirk. Hopefully that back can get cooking. This guy right behind him has been pretty good. Dalton Bar Show in center field. Ty France also very good owning that DH spot keeping it warm for when George Springer gets back which may not be for a while folks. Maybe another week or so. Then you’ve got Ernie Clement at third base and then welcome back Jimenez. Andre Simenez went like four for five the other day in Buffalo. He’s looking good down there. They called him up. He’s back in the lineup. This is going to move a lot of people around cuz as you’re seeing where’s Joey Lopeid? Well, you can’t play Nathan Lucas and Joey Lopito. kind of throwing that corner outfielder into a a pigeon hole right now where we can only play one of them at a time because you got Bartow back. Now you got Jimenez back moving Bar to right. So as you can see here folks what we talked about on the show for the last few weeks little bit of a log jam but on the bump you’ve got Lamachina who again he’s been very very cold lately. His RA is almost close to six over his last five or six starts. So he’s got to get it cooking. He he’s back at home at Toronto, but he’s up against a very good Cubs team, so it’s not going to be easy. Yeah, over there on the Chicago Cubs, they got Bush leading things off. He’s batting 263. Suzuki going to be behind him. Tucker going to be there third. That’s going to be such a fun name to watch come free agency time. Like, that dude’s obviously a stud. Uh not saying the Toronto Blue Jays are going to have even a uh remote chance of being able to get him, but uh it will be an interesting watch along nonetheless. Then they got Kelly PCA who has been cold as ice is down there at the five spot. Ian Hap six, her seven, Swanson eight, and then Shaw nine. And on the bump, so did they change something? They did. Yeah, because it it was it was previously this other dude who’s had like a six plus erra, was just getting beat up all over the place. Now they got Javier Assad on the bump for the Chicago Cubs. And I’m assuming that he has not pitched at all. Yeah. Uh this season. So I mean, you could argue that this is kind of just as good for the Toronto Blue Jays, but in his career, he’s been significantly better than that other guy. He’s got a 3.4 RA over 70 games. Uh yeah. Yeah, that’s uh that’s where it’s at. Let’s get some score predictions in the chat, everybody. Uh I also did see in in there people saying Gate 14 giveaway night. I heard about that. That’s very, very cool for them. Uh, I mean, I think they got their their own shirt and everything like that with Guerrero. So, I mean, honestly, like, credit where credit is due. That’s that’s awesome. Hopefully, one day, uh, your boys can get in there as well. Let’s get it going. Yeah, this one’s a lot different than what we predicted cuz I was thinking that you’d have Bereos up against a guy who had like north of like a six array on the season. This is going to be tough. Even though he is coming back from an injury, he’s still a good player. Now, obviously, I’m not privy to what he’s been doing as rehab starts. Has he been looking good? But I’m just I’m just going to stick with the prediction that we are going to win this one. Lakina bounceback game. We’re back at home. Boys are feeling rested and good. Got that momentum from the final win in LA. Let’s get a W here today, but it’s going to be high scoring. I’m going to stick with that. Let’s go with a nice Let’s go with a nice six to five victory Blue Jays. It’s a tight one. We pull it off, guys. Where are you at, Nick? Uh I do think that Blue Jays are going to win this one. I mean, look again, like this guy is significantly better in his career than the individual that we were up against previously, but he hasn’t played baseball in a while, and I think that there is definitely something to that. So, his innings are probably going to be limited, his pitches are probably going to be limited, and he might not have his best stuff. Give me Toronto. Give me them winning this ball game. 8 to four. Hell yeah. 8 to four. Hell yeah. That’d be a good one. We got a lot of predictions in here. 8 to 5 JS 30 nothing Jays. I like that. Edwin 72 Jay’s 89 JS saying GG. 85 J 63Js. Feels like we’re really f really freaking with the Jays today. 72 Jays, two to five Jays. Everyone’s saying Jays. Lots of highscoring affairs. So, uh yeah. Also, uh, ground out Guerrero saying Vlad will go four for four with four homers. Like you ground out Guerrero. Yeah, for real, man. That’s That’s actually wild. Um, yeah. I I mean, I hope that you’re right, dude. I hope that you’re on to something that would assuredly quiet down all of the haters. Yeah, the haters are getting real real quiet. I made a post the other day just grabbing like his uh his stats so far in the second half on the off day and I did the math. Sometimes I like to do math. Post all-star break. The pace that he’s going there, if you average that out for the rest of the season, if he played every single game, he would end up with 32 bombs. And you got to imagine an OPS north of the mid 900 mark. And if you were to tell me that, hey, Vlad’s going to sign for 36 AAV per year and he’s also going to provide you with 32 bombs and a and an ops like that. Hell yeah. That’s my investment. And also too, you guys got to think about this. You know, I don’t know what brought up. I’m just talking about it. But the whole like 36 AV in like 5 years. That could look like a freaking steal if he’s still putting up those numbers. 100% man. First pitch incoming from Lamachina. That one’s going to be a ball right there. One and0. Let’s go. We are off. Let’s go, baby. He’s got to lock in, buddy. Right now, he’s like kind of not in a playoff spot. No one’s talking about him. That one’s going to miss down low. 2 and 0. Yeah. Like I was talking on the radio today and like no one brought up the idea of like Jose starting uh in in three games like everyone everyone’s everyone’s talking about Sherzer and Lowour and Bieber and and Gossman not talking about Jose right now is that one the right side yeah I mean like ultimately I think everybody realizes uh everybody in Blue Jay’s lane realizes that we are going to be riding the hot hand and so everybody’s game one game two game three prediction is going to be based off of whose hand happens to be the hottest right Now, it just so happens that Lamachina’s hand is ice godamn cold. So, yeah. Exactly right. Like, I also see Yeah. Point. Speaking of hot players, why are we not playing Loper? The guy has like a 900 OPS and small sample size, but it’s still crazy. Well, here’s the problem. You’re getting everybody back now. Jimenez is back. Var’s back. So, when Jimenez is back, you got to keep Ernie in there. So, you’re going to push, you know, Barger to right field. And now that Vo’s back, it’s either Lucas or Loper. Two in one. That was ripped right side. going to be scooped up by the gold glover. Vlatty feeds it over to Jose. Nice play right there by Mr. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Cubs switched their starter to Assad. Yes, they did. Dimmerrest. Uh kind of sucks cuz the other dude was absolutely terrible at baseball. Uh but again, I mean, this guy’s, you know, hasn’t played in a long long period of time. So, I mean, that could also be uh mean good things for the Toronto Blue Jays. Good scoop there by Videy. Good feed over there to first base. Very good feed. ranging, turning, planting, and and spinning and firing. Love it all. Love it all, Vlatty. But, you know, that’s not to say Loper isn’t going to still get his chances. Like, he’s going to try his best John Schneider to keep everybody in that lineup and keep him hot. So, you know, you might see Ernie losing some playing time, honestly. This is the problem with Andre Jimenez, honestly. Um, I like Exactly. It’s a good problem to have, but you know, ultimately his bat’s not there, and you got to, you know, there’s only nine spots on this team, right? So, somebody’s bat is going to have to be taken out. And it just so happens that the guys that are going to lose playing time have been playing pretty well recently. One and0 on Sea Suzuki. Burio’s fires. That was going to be in there for a strike. He’s got I think he’s got like the third or fourth most homers in the NL this year, which is pretty freaking nuts. Yeah. Yeah. Again, this uh Chicago team, their production numbers sometimes, even some of their OPS’s aren’t like, you know, crazy, right? Because I think say Suzuki somewhere in the mid 800s. Uh but their production numbers are truly insane. They are. Uh here’s Kyle Tucker, the guy they traded for. Let’s go. Two outs very quickly. Top of the first right here, Jose. Oh, that’s middle middle, dude. And we are going to get the out. But dangerous pitch, man, against somebody like Kyle Tucker just kind of like throwing in a 93 middle middle like that. I wouldn’t do that every time, but we do manage to get through it. Only seven pitches and uh remain scoreless. There we go. That’s a good first inning for Jose Lamakina. Let’s get it. Look at that. You’re going to ruin his development.” I brought up in the podcast like he’s or I think it was the Blue Jays Today show yesterday as that one’s outside one or two and I’m just gonna jump in here and say like number 69 Tom Dinner he just beat you out NB97 he was counting down and everything. Oh yeah and ended up getting it. So Dy’s in the chat right there for Tom Dinner. Let’s go Tom Dinder. There you go buddy. Two and0 on Hap. That one’s outside 3 and0. Yeah he’s on a fancy team. Um, point being I was making is like, okay, so he makes a few more starts in AAA. He’s already surpassed his inning total from NCAA last year. Maybe obviously you want to go a little bit more. Like I don’t know how much is the current plan for him to pitch this year as that one’s going to be a strike three and one, but like you’re not going to hurt his development. Like if if he’s on pace to hit his innings, why not hit your final few innings in the big leagues? Get a little taste. I don’t think it’s going to hurt anybody. He’s already done enough this year to prove I mean, hell, he’s jumped from single A as that’s a good strike right there. He’s jumped from single A to AAA. I think he’s doing okay. I don’t think we’re we’re ruining him by bringing him up for what, five games, maybe is what we’re asking for. You know what I mean? Also, JF saying, “Just found out y’all have a podcast. Like that’s like saying, “Let’s prioritize the maybe two innings you’re going to pitch out of the pen over the five or six you’re going to get facing the the them to establish the game.” I’d rather prioritize that part of the game than that part of the game. That’s why the best pitchers start in the rotation and the not so good pitchers go to the bullpen because their stuff could play better there.
