🔴LIVE 🔴Seattle Mariners VS Baltimore Orioles/ August 12 /MLB THE SHOW 25

about set to go. And today’s starter, Cade Povich, but Chris, he hasn’t exactly been stellar here on his home mound. Well, I’ll say this. Every player wants to perform well at their home ballpark in front of their fans, in front of the city, and you know, this guy no different. He wants to be more effective here. So, you know, you look at the numbers, they haven’t been great at home. I’m sure he wants to turn that around, and we’ll see if he’s able to start that in this one. And stepping in for the Mariners, Randy Roserena on the ground to third to first and a quick out number one. And now we check out the Mariners lineup. A guy who’s been huge for them over the last month plus, Dominic Canzone. Well, Boo, there aren’t many guys who have a flare for the big moment like he does. I mean, batting over 400 with runners in scoring position. Are you kidding me? I I know it’s not guaranteed or an automatic, but I hope we get to see him in a close late game situation with runners in scoring position and just see is he truly a machine or not. Cal Raleigh stands in now and watches strike one. Raleigh working on a massive campaign right now, putting up some big home run numbers. Next offering is in for a strike. Well, we’ve seen him flex some impressive power this season and there’s still a lot of time to go. If he can keep up this pace he’s on, we could be in Oh, now a great stop over to first and that’s a base hit despite a great defensive effort. [Applause] Oh, this is unfortunate because it looked like it was going to be an awesome play. something we see on the highlights tonight and tomorrow, but you have to applaud the effort on the stop. And if you don’t take care of the throw, it goes from a wow moment to one you regret really quick. And now it’s Julio Rodriguez. There’s the strike of the knees and one. The Mariners knew what they had. signed him in July of 2017 for a little under $2 million when Rodriguez was just 16 years old out of the Dominican Republic. Line drive. Adams brings it in and there are two down. He was all over that fast ball right there. I tell you what, if he gets under it just by a fraction of an inch or a little bit more, that’s way back. And now it’s Josh Naylor. possibly thinking about home run number 100 here. He’s just one shy of that milestone. And that misses and it’s one and0. Fast forward to 2022 for Julio Rodriguez to win the rookie of the year. The Seattle Mariners were then compensated with the 29th overall pick in the first round of the draft in 2023. part of the new CBA enticing teams to promote their good young players. Close one doesn’t get the call and it’s two and one. Orio and a foul ball. Raleigh off of first with two away. Let’s go. Come on. You can do it. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And that is that. One left for Seattle. Orioles do up in the first. No score. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. Back now at Oral Park. Today’s starting pitcher, Carlos Vargas. And Singy. We were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. I’ve just been so impressed with when it seems like there’s more pressure, he’s more calm and settles in. He’s done an incredible job with runners in scoring position. Most guys, they get a little tight, they start to aim the baseball, but for some reason he gets looser, the ball comes out of his hand with more life, and he’s able to wiggle off the hook of, you know, tough situations and get his team back in the dugout. fouled off to the right. Holiday getting lead off in today’s game. A former first round pick in 2022. That one’s in there. No balls, two strikes. Keeps the atbat going with a foul ball. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. The other way and that’s a fair ball. Makes the turn and heads for second. And he’s into scoring position with a leadoff double. Maybe a chance for our first run here. Well, I’m not saying that play was easy, but it was harder than it needed to be thanks to the bad jump. Those small moments can be costly. Now the third baseman, Jordan Westber. That one finds the zone. Strike one. No outs. Runner on second. Hit hard on the ground to the right side and foul ball. Get out of here. And a swing and a miss. Not what you’re looking for after the leadoff double. A strike out. And there’s one away. You know, Boo, you often think of sliders more for that horizontal movement, but most of the good ones have both vertical depth and that horizontal movement. And that’s what we saw, right? Oh, now this one’s high and deep way back there on its way. Gone. And just like that, they’re out in front. It’s two nothing. He only needed one swing to square it up. Not wasting any time in that at bat. Boo. Aggressive and it paid off. [Applause] That slider on the outside part of the plate is typically hit the other way, but to be able to get to it, pull the baseball, and get it up in the air for a home run, I’m just really impressed. Here’s Adley Rushman. And the first pitch misses for ball one. One down. Base is empty. Gets the outside corner with that one. Next pitch is outside. Comes up empty. That’s strike two. One out. Base is empty. Liner base hit. You can’t do much better than that on a pitch that far outside of the strike zone. Got him to chase on the two strike count, but he wasn’t fooled. He hit that ball really well. One down. Here’s Ryan Mount Castle. Just missed. Fast ball is outside. He’s clearly trying to work him away here. Both pitches off the plate. If you really want to put the ball in play, you’re going to have to stay back and drive it to the opposite field. Check swing called strike. Two balls in a strike. man at first. One away. [Applause] That one hammered left field. That’s back there. Forget it. He’ll touch them all. It’s their second home run of the inning. And they add on. It’s 4 nothing. He absolutely feasts on right-handed pitching and devours that one for a homer. And you can see that’s what he expects of himself at bat after at bat. He’s that confident. [Applause] He got on plane with that high fast ball. Then look how his bat stays in the zone for a long time. Absolutely crushed that pitch. So one out, nobody on. And next for the Orioles, Jeremiah Jackson. That one’s in there. That’s strike one. Well, it’s not the inning he was planning on to begin this start, but you’ve got to find a way to shake things off and give your team some length and put up some zeros and one right through there for a strike. Well, he didn’t like those first two pitches now in an O2 hole. He’s going to have to battle. Hope he gets a mistake. Swings and misses. went back to the fast ball and it was effective. He came out of his mechanics there. Typically likes to shoot the ball the other way, but that time little anxious and here’s Alex Jackson. Pitch misses and that’s ball one. Fast ball for a strike at 95. First inning and already up to 23 pitches. into center and a base hit with that fast ball. Even though it’s high velocity, you’ve got to live on the outer edges when it’s right on a TE right down the middle. Professional hitters are not going to have a problem turning it around. Two outs, runner at first. And now the DH. Yeah, the pitch is in for a strike. 0 and one. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. Oh, he’s really working him away this at bat. Sometimes take a little bit off velocity. Try to get a roll over something on the ground. Stay away from that big hole on the right side of the infield. Come on. And now two and one. Nasty back door slider. There’s really nothing you can do with that if you swing at it. So that’s a good take by him. That one finds the zone. And now two balls and two strikes. And Earl Hendrickx punches him out. That’s a strikeout. But two round tripers in this inning, the long ball was working. It’s now a four nothing ball game. Back here in Baltimore, Aueno Suarez up to the plate now. Oh, he’s been having a great year this year and hitting home runs at a good clip and the matchup is very favorable. Povich back to work. that misses the zone. One and0. He’s already pitching with a four nothing lead, so we should see him be aggressive. Fill up the strike zone. Don’t issue free passes. The 10. That’s a ball. Swang at a highfly ball. Well struck. That’s back there. Hauls it in for the out. The batter now, Jorge Palano. First pitch swinging in the on deck circle. You really want to use that opportunity to see some pitches and time up the fast ball. Last thing you want to do is miss a good hitable fast ball early in the count. Our plate umpire Earl Hris. Yeah, with Hrix Boo kind of interesting. He’s a good consistent umpire, but you do hear that he kind of favors one side of the plate more than the other. So, it’s really hard to know for sure, but I think that usually it has to do something with where he sets up prior to each pitch. [Music] late that time and it’s strike two. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Next pitch misses way outside. And a foul ball. He stays alive. Good battle here. About to be the eighth pitch of the at bat. Foul ball and it remains a full count outside and that is ball four. That’s a great at bat. He saw a lot of pitches and earned a walk. Well, that’s a nice job of grinding out that at bat. Saw a lot of pitches and ends up drawing the walk. Very gritty. One gone, runner at first. Mitch Garver up next for the Mariners. And a curve misses outside. And that’s ball one and another ball. Last two pitches have been down in the zone. when pitcher clearly trying to get that ground ball double play, but in this count he’s going to have to give in, elevate his pitches, and get back into this at bat. And that is out of play. Dives, but it kicks off his glove. Gets it there in time, though. And they get it out on the play. Batting eight right Dominic. Next to hit Dominic Kzone. Mariners and it’s fouled away. Runner at second. Two down here in the top of the second. Next offering upstairs. Let’s go. The one-1 is fouled off. All right, Baltimore, let’s go. Let’s go Baltimore. Next offering way off the plate and down on strikes. That’s the third out. Mariners leave one. They’re on the short end of a four nothing score. We head to the bottom of the second and now here’s the speed threat. outfielder Jordan Adams looking for his first big league hit right here. And the slider just misses. Just missed. [Applause] check swing and he went and the count two and one. Two and one’s the count [Applause] and that drops in for a strike. That front door slider is such a devastating pitch. You don’t want to get beat by the inside fast ball. So, you cheat a little bit and then by the time it gets there, it’s out of the swing plane. Foul ball into coming. Worm burner into the outfield for a knock. And that turns the lineup over. Oh yeah. Up next for the Orioles. Back to the top of the lineup. Jackson Holiday. The next to hit for the Orioles. Lent off this game with a double. taken high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. That one missed. This is one of those situations the infielders have to pre-plan and understand that the ball’s got to be hit extremely hard right at them if they’re going to have a chance to go for a double play. Adams aboard here at first with nobody out in the air out towards left center. Rodriguez sizes this one up, corrals it and there’s one away. Now batting third baseman Jordan Westber. So, a man aboard, Jordan Westber, getting ready to hit right through there for a strike. Looks like he’s just sizing him up there. Really good pitch to hit, but he took it all the way. Sometimes guys just want to set their timing later on in the game. That may be a pitch that he turns on. Move to first and he’s back safely. Foul ball. Fights that one away and the count remains 0 and2. [Music] The pitch that one misses and the count one and two. See if he can go upstairs a little bit. Make sure you miss up and out of the zone since you’re heading the count one two. Don’t miss in the zone cuz that’s where you get hurt. Kenzone makes a nice grab at a full sprint. Oh, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. Got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. Now it’s the shortstop, Gunner Henderson. He’s already homerred in this game. First pitch and he just misses. Movement in the bullpen. A right-hander appears to be getting loose. MVP fouled off left side. [Music] Here’s a 1-1 and a popup on the left side of the infield. Suarez. And that is that one left for the Orioles. They lead four nothing. New inning getting started. And now the shorts stop JP Crawford. Crawford. And first offering is fouled off. just missed. The 1-1 is fouled off. The shorts stop takes the ball. hit hard. Base hit man aboard on the leadoff single. Everything came together for him. Fast ball pretty much middle middle and that’s what you fall asleep dreaming about as a hitter. So no surprise he put a great swing on it. Now it’s Randy Rosarena. 0 for one so far. That one in there across the letters. [Applause] Rudder at first. No outs here. Next offering misses down and away. Well, he missed badly with that O2 fast ball. Hitter has to understand probably wants to try to put him away with that pitch. So, got to stay ready for it. Swing and a highf fly ball left field. Rutman settles under it and makes the catch and there’s one away. Just pulled off of it a little bit right there. that front shoulder coming open instead of staying closed. If he does that, he’s going to be able to go up the middle the other way with some authority instead of a fly out to left. Raleigh now at the plate as he swings through strike one. Good pitch right there. Anytime you can get one by a bat of this caliber, especially with runners on, it’s got to give you some confidence out there on the mound that you can win this battle. Orio, that’s the ball. And that one is lifted in the air. Jackson on the move brings it in. Two down. [Applause] Now batting the center fielder, Julio Rodriguez. And now the center fielder, Julio Rodriguez. He’s 0 for one. Singing. You got to appreciate a guy who’s this good defensively. I mean, watching him drag balls in the outfield, it is beautiful. Ouch. That one drilled him. Safe at first. And now we’ll check on the lefty. Hope he’s all right. First base. And now they’ll hustle out to check on him. That was quite a shot he took as you see him down on the knee. Yeah, clearly in some real pain, but he will not want to come out of this game if he doesn’t have to. It’s looking to me like he’s going to try to shake it off and continue. First and second, two outs. Here’s Josh Naylor. He’s sitting on 99 career homers. We’ll see if this is the moment to notch number 100. And I would say that most great defensive outfielders, it’s kind of natural. There is some work that you can do to it uh to improve your game, but ultimately you either have it or you don’t. Let’s go. Two outs. Fought off foul. There’s one guy that I can think about, Boo, who started as a third baseman, Alex Gordon, and then became an elite perennial gold glover out in left field for the Kansas City Royals. But he’s a guy when you watch him play, you would imagine that that’s all he ever played in his life was the outfield. Two on, two outs. That one is absolutely belted. That’s back. Come on. And it’s into the bleachers. Out of here. He made him pay for that one. His second home run of the series. And they throw three on the board. It’s 43. Singi. That’s a special one. His 100th career home run, man. 100 career homers. Pretty impressive. Got to keep that front shoulder closed and your body square to the plate, especially when you’re facing a left-hander. He did all those things until the very last moment where that hip just popped. Hands came through. Nice little lag to it. Carried out nicely. Two down, base is empty. Auheno Suarez up next for the Mariners. There’s a strike. Yeah, some guys just have instincts, right? I mean, that’s the way it goes. We talk about Larry Walker, the Hall of Famer, and his instinct on the bases despite the fact that he didn’t play a ton of baseball as a kid. Remember Mark Katseay was a real good defensive outfielder. Good instincts, not great speed. Next offering is in the dirt. Yeah. And I figured you would get Katse into this because you had a free dinner at his house the other night. That is true. Next pitch inside. Two balls, two strikes. Close pitch there. And he’s kind of wondering where it missed. You know, getting a feel for each umpire’s strike zone is something that pitchers and hitters really have to think about and work on from game to game and sometimes from at bat to at bat. Two down to foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. Swing and a pop off in foul ground. Yeah, baby. Has room and he makes the catch. But the biggest swing of the inning comes right here. A three-run homer. It’s now a 43 ball game. You’re dialed into the show and welcome back to the ballpark. Set for the bottom of the third and into the box for Baltimore. Adley Rutman. Roman first pitch doesn’t find the zone. You know these Orioles doing a great job, Boo, of just waiting for the right pitch to come their way. And I’m seeing very patient at bats out of them. Pitch count is pretty high and they’ve played at four runs already. So I think it’s safe to say their game plan is working out pretty well right now. Outside low and it’s two and one. So they forced the starter to put in a lot of work and they’ve been able to get to him for some runs and hopefully that bullpin phone is working today. Next offering in there for a strike. Two and two. Spoils a two strike pitch and he’ll see another. runs it up to 96 to record the punch out. Frustrating end to the at bat for the hitter. And I’m sure that’s going to sit on him for a little while. You want to be ready to hit the fast ball. Sometimes you can overthink things and I think that was the case right there. Mount Castle swings through that one as he comes to the plate for the second time today. Ground ball right side and that’s just fouled. One more time. One down. Base is empty. Gets a piece and it stays 0 and two. Really great change of speeds. He goes off the off speed to the fast ball and the hitter doesn’t know what’s coming next. They tried to get him to chase on a slider down and away. And that one in the air center field. Rodriguez settles under it. Pulls it down and he makes the catch. And there’s two away. Now batting. Two outs. Base is empty. Now it’s the right fielder Jeremiah Jackson. 0 for one. He struck out swinging last time. First pitch and that’s in for a strike. Popped up. Makes the catch and over. One, two, three go the Orioles, but they hold on to a 4-3 lead. Start of the fourth and now for Seattle. Jorge Palano. Jorge Palanco. Chris, you played here in 2002. What are the memories that stand out as to being a member of the Baltimore Orioles? For me, it was just pulling into the parking lot and having those that were there with a an encouraging smile or a pat on the back regardless of how things were going. It made it a lot easier to come to the ballpark whether you were doing well or you were struggling. And then the way that they treated your family, I mean, this is a great place to play and I’d say it’s got to be one of the top places in all of baseball. Mitch Garver up to hit here and you had a cameo in the movie Moneyball as an Orioles player in a highlight clip. And that’s in there at the knees for a strike. Yeah, that’s fouled off. Foul ball still 0 and two. Base is empty. One away. Top half of inning number four. Foul ball. It stays nothing and two. Got him. That K is his third of the game. And now the right fielder Dominic Kzone. His first at bat was a strikeout. Kenzone 27 years old and he was drafted in the eighth round back in 2019. Action in the pen down there. Tommoyuki Seigado up and loosening in the pen. Number 63 getting cranked up as well. Popped up to the left into foul ground. Westber sizing this one up and that’ll do it. Mariners go down quietly there. Score holds at 4-3. So out of the bullpen for the Mariners number 23. And as relievers go, he’s not a big strikeout guy. Tries to force weak contact. So command and execution are huge for him. And here’s the catcher, Alex Jackson. One for one with a single so far. Jackson. That’s to third and a foul ball. Tap foul at the plate. That one the other way. Naylor takes it himself. Leadoff hitter retired in the fourth. Now batting number 31. And next is the designated hitter. He was a strikeout victim his first time. Come on. And that one fouled off and he lays down a bunt and it goes just foul. And one and two. One and two. That’s down and in. A slider missed. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. So a meta aboard now with one away. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. Once you get the ball by the pitcher, there’s a lot of base hits up the middle, even on ground balls. So a nice job to use that big hole and get himself a hit. So up next, Jordan Adams swing at a highf fly ball hit the air left center field. This one’s got a chance and that ball is gone. his first homer of the year and they throw a pair on the board. It’s 6-3. That’s their third home run of the game. They’re having a lot of fun at the plate in this one. They’ve got the long ball working for them on autopilot. That one was a hanger and pitchers typically don’t get away with making a mistake like that. And right there, he made him pay. [Applause] So the lineup flips over. Jackson Holiday the next to hit outside low. Ball one. Still only one out here in the inning. and he grounds one to the right side. Steps on first for the out. It’s a good recovery though after giving up the home run, not allowing it to stay in the head, but going to work at the next hitter. And a tough one at that. Now it’s going to be Jordan Westber for two in this one. And that’s through there for a strike. line drive and that should be extra bases around first and hustling for second and he’ll pull in there with a standup double. Drove that ball nicely. Put a great swing on it and it jumped off his bat. Kind of put it all together there and he’s rewarded with the double. [Applause] So runner at second, two down. Gunnar Henderson the next to hit for the Orioles. He’s already homered here in this one. Swinging a ground ball and foul ball. towards first and that chance handled. Throws to first in time. That ends the inning and they limit the damage. Baltimore with a two-run shot this inning. It’s now 63. and we’re back and the batter will be the shorts stop JP Crawford. Well, after putting up a nice inning on offense, got some runs across, this is where you look for the starter to go out there, have a shutdown inning. Don’t give that other team any hope. Uh you just hope that he can get through this inning, get the bats back up there while they’re hot. Back to the top of the Seattle order. And now Randy or Rosarena. Lemonade. Lemonade. Oh, I think the key I mean if he can get through one more inning, anything after that, a hitter or two is bonus, but they should be lined up good enough to get to the finish line. That’s outside and the count even one and one. He’s controlling things out there on the mound. Not messing around at all. He’s been in attack mode since the very start. Swaying and a ball popped in the air. Mount Castle has a beat on it. Hauls it in. Two away. Two down. Base is empty. Cal Raleigh up next for the Mariners. He’s not going to get cheated up there. No, he’s not. He’s looking to do damage with every swing he takes. Swinging a miss. And it’s 0 and one. Well, the offense has gotten going. And a pitcher wants to go out there, have a real quick inning, get those guys back into the dugout so those bats can stay hot. Check swing. Did he go? Yes, he did. [Applause] Next one in the dirt. And that one almost hit him. Two outs. Base is empty. He should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with the three-hole hitter coming up if he’s walked. Smash down the left field line and that’s just fouled. He’s getting the barrel to the ball. Just got to work on that timing a little bit. Fights it off. He’ll see another fouled off again and it remains three and two. And that’s ball four. It wasn’t easy, but he earned that walk after a long at bat. One of the things about that two out walk, the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead. So, a ball down the line or into the gap will produce a two out RBI. And those are the best. That is if you are the offensive side of it. Tommoyuki Sigato on a pitch here. Still a lot of game left and this game could go either way. So this is a big opportunity for him to get some important outs and try to help carry this lead into the later innings. So two down, next to hit, Julio Rodriguez. [Music] First pitch just misses. Just missed. Raleigh off of first with two away. Off the mark there. Three and one now. There’s the strike. 3-2. Two out. Runner on first. Lot of movement in the infield. Hitters got to stay focused on the pitch. Foul ball and it remains a full count. There’s a swing and a drive. That’s back. That’s down. One hops off the wall. Coming home. He will score. Puts a run on the board and picks up an RBI. Got a fast ball middle of the plate. jumped all over it. Absolutely smoked that ball. So, runner at second, two down. So, now it’s the Mariner cleanup hitter Josh Naylor. Breaking ball in there for a strike. The strategy of winning a ball game when you can make that pitcher work a little more, expose himself by throwing pitches, that could be the key to winning perhaps later on. So, good job of extending this inning, getting a knock with two outs to bring the number four hole hitter up. Swinging a foul out of play. That one way inside. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. [Music] Two-2 now. Here’s a rip to short, but he’s there for the third out. RBI double for the M. It’s now a 64 ball game. Back after this on the show. We head to the bottom of the fifth. Now, here is Adley Rutman. Just missed. You know, these Orioles, simply put, are producing a lot of quality swings. They have five extra base hits on the stat sheet so far, and that tells me they’re seeing the ball out of the pitcher hand really well. With all those extra base hits, it’s easy to think we’re going to see that trend continue the rest of the game. They seem to be really locked in at the plate. Foul ball still a one and two count. And that’s outside. swing and a ball ripped right field and that one back and that one is gone. He’ll circle the bases. His second homer this series. It’s 74. That’s their fourth home run of the game. They can’t stop and they won’t stop hitting home runs in this one. Boo. They’re clearly feeding off of each other at the dish. [Applause] Anytime you have a pitch down the middle of the plate, the percentages go up for the hitter to do damage, even if it’s a pretty good sinker like that one. Nice piece of hitting there at the plate. [Applause] Manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Number 23 gives way. It’s a three-run game. And we’ll be back to tell you about the new arm in a minute. [Applause] [Music] Oh yeah. Casey Legumina will take over here. Pretty tight game, so they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. So next to hit for Baltimore, Ryan Mount Castle and a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Just missed. One and one in the air right field. Kenzone makes the catch and there’s one down. Now batting number six. And now Jeremiah Jackson. And that one way outside. And that is ball one. Back to back breaking pitches away. You get the feeling as a hitter that the pitcher is afraid of you, that he doesn’t want to challenge you. So I think the confidence level is raised right here. And another ball. One out. Base is empty and a run in. Last half of inning number five. There’s the strike. Dives and he can’t hang on. No throw and he reaches safely. Showed some really nice patience in that at bat. Worked himself into a good count. That’s one of those you classify as just too hot to handle. hit it on the screws and it couldn’t be fielded cleanly. But you can’t really blame the defense in that case. [Music] Swing. Get a ball popped up. Crawford and there’s two down. Now batting number 31. Next is the DH. A switch hitter. One for two. First pitch misses. He swings and fouls one off. That one fouled off. Jackson, the runner at first with two gone in the air to left down the line. Nobody can get there and it’s a foul ball. And he chases that one. Inning over. Orioles add one on a solo homer. It’s now a 74 ball game. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show. All set for the top of the sixth. Now at the plate, AU Heneo Suarez. Sigano back to work. Right through there for a strike. activity in the bullpen. Keegan Aken appears to be getting loose. Martin also throwing and a swing and a miss. There’s that slider. Well, you got the hitter already chasing that nasty slider. If you’re on the mound, you just want to expand the zone right now. Get a swing and miss and get through this at bat. swings through that and it’s a strike out and there’s one down. Well, take a look at the three pitch sequence here. Pretty simple in terms of putting them away at the plate. Once you’re ahead 02 as a pitcher, you can really expand the zone and see how aggressive that hitter is going to be trying to protect and battle. And right there, clearly he was in swing mode, but all you can do is hope to foul that off. Palano in the box now. No balls in a strike. Next pitch is outside. Sharp grounder. That’s through for a base hit. So they get a man aboard with a one out single. Now batting catcher Mitch Garver. And now the catcher comes up to him. Mitch Garver. And downstairs. Now this team is definitely looking for a big swing of the bat right here. Try to close that gap. But you know, at the very least, if you could find a way to manufacture that run from first, it feels like it’s really important to getting back into this ball game. Next offering is in for a strike. Swing and a miss. Looked off balance that time. Good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand. Looks so good. And then by the time you get Oh, now this one’s blasted deep to left. Way back there on its way and out of here. his seventh home run of the season. It’s 76. He got his front foot down. He was strong on his backside. And when his bat went through the zone, there’s no question that ball was going to travel out of the ballpark. But that’s if you were putting a tape together positive to watch. That’s it right there. Just a perfect swing. Dominic Kzone digs in now left field way back there. That’s down. One hops off the wall. And now the tying run is into scoring position. Love how he let that ball travel, trusted his hands. Nice job of going the other way. manager out of the dugout now and it looks like we’ll see a change on the mound. Tommoyuki Seagado departs and he leaves in a one-run game. New pitcher coming on. We’ll be back in a minute. Now, so a new arm out of the bullpen for the Orioles, number 86.6. This softball has been really good against left-handed hitters. JP Crawford gets a chance to hit. Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. Heading for the plate. The throw in. It’s offline and he scores. All square at seven. Four hits in a row and they’re really swinging it here. He wasn’t able to elevate it, but he put a great swing on it. Right on time, good balanced approach and just blasted it through the infield. And up next for Seattle, Randy Arosena. Fast is outside with a go-ahad run at first. And we’re the top half of the sixth. And fouled off. [Applause] Swing and a miss. He was late. Strike two. Really going after him here. All fast balls to get ahead in the count. [Applause] Very high with that one. Ball two. Crawford leads off first with one away. spoils that one and it remains two and two. [Applause] Swung on belted and that gets down into the gap coming home. He will score and they take the lead. Save. A perfect example right there. that plate discipline, it pays off. The deeper he gets into account, the more comfortable he becomes and he usually wins the battle. One down, runner at third. And now Cal Raleigh, a switch hitter batting right. And that misses and it’s one and0. One ball, no strike. [Applause] And there’s a ball. Two and he swings and lifts one to deep center field. Back there, it’s a bomb. He crushes that one to center field. Second home run of the inning for him. And they add a pair. It’s 10-7. There was a high slider, but he did a really good job of staying on plane with it. Staying slightly above it with his hands. Hit that ball hard and he got rewarded. Now the Orioles manager is out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pan. Number 86 is done and as he heads off, we’ll step aside for a minute. Back with the new pitcher after this break. New pitcher on now number 63. He’s had trouble at times keeping the ball in the park this season. Something to keep in mind here. Here’s the center fielder, Julio Rodriguez. And first offering is fouled off. And a breaking ball misses outside. [Applause] ripped on the ground to second. Rodriguez out on the play. Now batting first baseman Josh Naylor First offering and it just misses. And that one clips the corner and Naylor swings through that one. [Applause] Pitches in the dirt. Now two and two. Fouled off and they’ll do it again. Still two and two after the foul ball. down to the dirt. Swing and a miss. That completes the strikeout. Inning over, but two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working. It’s now 107. Back now at Oral Park. Now, Jordan Adams and the first offering a fast ball for a strike. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Matt Brash preparing to come on if needed. Ferguson warming up as well. and ball one. One and one. Let’s go Oreos. That’s a ball outside. And a foul ball. swings through it and that’s a strike out. Pretty simple plan of attack on the mound right there, huh? Yeah. Nothing but fast balls. They just kept putting down the number one and letting it fly. I like it. Yeah, me too. And I’d love to hit against that. But of course, when you’re in the box, you think he’s bound to change speeds on you at some point. You’re just kind of locked up. Sort of like reverse psychology. So, back to the top of the Orioles lineup. Here’s the Orioles leadoff hitter, Jackson Holiday. That one outside. Ball one. Fast ball for a strike. The one-1 is fouled off. Base is empty, one away here in the bottom of the six. That misses the zone and the count is even. Two and two. Battling here as he fouls it away. One down, base is empty. Fans another. And that’s three straight strikeouts. Well, he froze him with a great fast ball right on the corner. It’s kind of like bowling when you think the ball’s going to get into the gutter and somehow just hangs onto that edge and knocks down a pin. Well, he got the outside corner of the plate and got that called. Third strike. Jordan Westber the next to hit for the Orioles. One for three. That one misses and that’s ball one. That’s a strike across the top of the zone. Swing and a miss. And that’s strike two. One and two. This one in the air center field. Rodriguez has this one sized up and that ends the inning. Back here in Baltimore, top of inning number seven and stepping in for the Mariners, Au Heno Suarez. Orio. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Let’s go Orioles. Just missed 20 count to a guy with this much pop at the dish. You better expect him to be turning on something. It’s going to either get hit hard to the pull side or the fans better look out in the stands. That one misses. Ball three. And there’s the automatic. Clearly taking all the way there in that three-0 count. It was a cookie right down the middle. Tried to check his swing there. Now it appealed to first. It did not go around. Oh, that’s a really good take right there. And that’s just mentally prepared knowing that if it’s not on a TE, you’re going to take that pitch because you still have one more strike to work with. Not easy to lay off, but he did an excellent job in that plate appearance. And that one is in the dirt. And that’s ball one. Late swing. Fouled to the left. outside with a breaking ball. Suarez on at first. Nobody out. That one missing inside. Cuts and misses. It’s a strikeout. Oh, nothing too fancy on the strikeout pitch right there. Just a low 90s fast ball. I’m not sure he was trying to challenge him, but that’s pretty much what happened. Very hitable location, but he found a way to just get it by him. late swing fouled all. That’s inside. And now it’s even one and one. Swing and a miss as he was late. It might be time to choke up a little bit. Get that front foot down early. Maybe even just spread out. He’s really late right now. That one ripped. [Applause] And it’s a one hopper off the wall. Should be extra bases. Suarez around third. Safe. And they lead by four. really nice job of two strike hitting in that at bat. A well-deserved double on a great swing. Got everything going on time. He stayed balanced and he squared it up about as well as you could possibly ask. One out, runner at second. Dominic Kzone will hit next. Rips one to right and foul ball. That one not close. One and one. One out and a runner at second. Come on. Next offering in there for a strike at the count. One and two. [Applause] Fouls it back with two strikes. had a swing and a miss. Beat him with a fast ball. [Applause] JP Crawford now at the plate. RBI knock for him last time. Now a chance to drive in another run. The shorts stop takes the ball. Runner at second. Two down here in the top half of inning number seven. Well, out there on the mound, he’s got to go right after this hitter because you don’t want to turn this lineup over. This is the guy that you’ve got to get that final out, get out of this inning. Just missed. Randy Roserena up next for the Mariners. Next offering is in for a strike. Ah, ground ball and that’s through the infield. Here comes Garver. Here’s the throw to the plate, but it’s offline and the lead is up to five. But when you fall behind in the count, you’ve got to come into the zone and then guys have a better chance of hitting the ball hard like he did right there. Randy Roserena the next to hit. Pitch misses there. Ball one. Just missed. That’s the ball. Two balls. No strikes. [Applause] Next pitch, a slider that misses outside. Well, I would expect in this three- 0 count, you’re taking all the way. See if he’ll walk you. So now two on and two outs. Just came apart right there. Four pitch walk and guy at the plate was not going to help him out by swinging at something out of the zone. Here comes the manager out of the dugout and he’ll make a move for the bullpen. Number 63 will depart and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. Back with a new pitcher after this. Now pitching Kate Stout gets handed the rock out of the pen. I think it’s got to be a little tough coming in out of the pin when your guys are trailing so big on the scoreboard. Just doesn’t have the same intensity to it. But he’s got to find a way because these batters count the same for his stats obviously regardless of the score. First and second, two outs. Raleigh digs in now. This guy is one of the best athletes in the sport. Squirts away a little bit. One. Next offering is fouled back. Two outs. Couple of base runners at first and second. [Applause] The 1-1 is fouled off. Swing and a highf fly ball deep left field. That one back gone. He dinks it off the foul ball. Another homer. His second home run of the game. It’s 15-7. Well, he really crushed that thing down the line and everyone had to hold their breath until it clanked off the pole. And every time that happens, it just kind of feels like a trick shot or something. But really, it’s just a stroke of luck that it stays fair long enough. Two outs, nobody on. And now the center fielder, Julio Rodriguez. And there’s a foul ball. Plenty of offense in this one, Singy. I guess you’d say kind of what we expected, though. Well, this was a game looking at the pitching matchup where you expected offense to score and not as lopsided as this. Um, but yeah, you definitely expected to see some offense coming up. Now batting first base Josh Naylor. And now here is Josh Naylor. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Strike one. One. The 1-1 is fouled off. Off the mark there. The countdown two and two and there’s a rocket into the outfield. Around second is Rodriguez coming home. He’s safe and they now lead by nine. Up next for Seattle, third base and in scoring position with two away. Now a chance for Au Heno Suarez. 0 for three in this one. Fast ball for a strike. 0 and one. Man on second. Two down. Perhaps not quite ready to hit. First two pitches by him for a couple of strikes. now back is against the walls. Going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly. And that’s outside. Really good take, especially with two strikes. And the next pitch is way outside to the right side. Holiday gets it to first and they’re happy to just get off the field after that frame. So in the end, 10 come to the plate. Six of them come around to score midway in inning number seven and it’s time to stretch. The Mariners lead it 16-7. This game’s a bit of a blowout. Singy, let’s talk about something random. Let’s do it. All right, Singy. When you played, how much of a fashionista were you? Would you come to the ballpark dressed to the nines? No, I wouldn’t. Even on the road trips, I was, you know, pretty average. There were some guys that would dial it up and there’d be some outfits where you’re kind of double taking and saying, “Where in the world are you going?” But overall, I’d say I kept it lowkey. One and one. Yeah. You see some guys into the fashion nowadays and big on uh on the gram as the kids like to say post their their fits, right? That’s what that what you say. That is that what it is? Fits. Fit. Your fit. Your outfit. You’re fit. Got a little drip around the neck, too. Yeah. Believe it. Scale of 1 to 10, how old do we sound right now? Uh really old. Like close to social security benefits. Let’s go do it again. And next for the Orioles, Ryan Mount Castle. That one’s in there. 0 and one. Rutchman stands at first with one out. All right, Slider misses outside. Close one. Doesn’t get the call. And a count now. Even up swing and a ball popped up. Suarez under this one drops into the glove and there’s two away. So two down now and here is Jeremiah Jackson. And that one upstairs. Ball one. The M’s up big in this one here in the bottom of the seventh. Come on, Orio. Swinging a foul straight back. Two outs. And that drops in for a strike. A swing and a soft liner and it falls and out to a board. Anything but pretty right there, but he’ll take it every time. There are a lot of nicknames people have attached to hits like that. Blooper, flare, ducks, snort, lawn dart, etc. But whatever you want to call it, it’s a knock. And those are the ones that’ll make you smile as a hitter just about every time. at the plate. Alex Jackson just off the outside edge and it’s two and 0. Good spot for the hitter. Definitely has the advantage in this count with runners on. Look for him to be aggressive on this next pitch. Next offering is fouled back. Two on, two outs. Let’s go. Let’s go. Swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. Garver makes the grab. That is the inning. And welcome back to the ballpark. We go to the eighth. And now for Seattle, Jorge Palano. First pitch misses. And another ball. Pitch misses outside and that’s ball three. [Music] Slapped hard the other way, but foul. Foul ball there. Swaging a ball hit out towards left center field. This one could be trouble. Now he’ll turn for second. in safely. It’s a double and his second hit. Now batting catcher Mitch Garver. Here’s the catcher Mitch Garver. That one’s upstairs. Ball one. One ball, no strikes. Runner in scoring position. Nobody out. And we’re in the top of the eighth. Ground ball left side. First out in the top of the eighth. [Applause] Now it’s the right fielder Dominic Canzone. One for four with a double. First pitch just misses. That one is upstairs. Pitch misses and that’s ball three. Fast ball for a strike. Runner at second here. One gone. And that one wrapped foul. [Music] Smoked in the left. Base hit. Throw comes into third and they’re at the corners with only one out. And up next for Seattle, JP Crawford. There’s the strike. [Applause] Two on, one out. swing and a ball lined out towards center and makes the grab. Runner tagging from third. He’ll score in the sack fly and it’s a double-digit lead as they’re up by 10. Well, he hit that one pretty well. I think it would have been a lot more than a sack fly if not for that nice play by the outfielder to track it down. Good job of getting the run in. Here comes the skipper out of the dugout and he’s ready to make the move. Kate Stout out of the game. We’ll be back in a minute with a new arm on the mound. Keegan Aken comes on now. Well, they need someone to stop the bleeding and keep the score right where it is. Seems like a tough task today with the way this lineup is swinging. It digging in Randy Roserena. swings through that one for strike one. Kenzone off of first with two away in the dirt but kept close. [Applause] That misses now. One and two. Cut on and missed. And it’s a strikeout. And that is the inning. One run, a pair of hits, no errors, and one left on. Last half of the eighth coming up. Seattle leads this one 17-7. Back now, new pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth. Jackson Kar. He’s been so good against lefties. Now it’s the DH for the Orioles. Desated hitter number 31. Come on Orioles. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. Just missed. No, that missed. That’s the ball. That one pushed foul out of play off to the left. And that one upstairs foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. That one misses. So a leadoff walk now batting center man at first nobody out and into the box for Baltimore Jordan Adams right back to the mound could be an easy two to Crawford for one not in time at first it’s a fieldielers’s choice So next to him for Baltimore, Jackson Holiday, Jackson Holiday. And that one lifted in the air center field. Rodriguez settles under it. He’s there. He’s got it. Two away now. Now batting third base Jordan Jordan West the next to hit for the Orioles. It’s interesting. He plays kind of a a power spot defensively but runs pretty well. So when you’re looking at that position, you’re not expecting someone that has maybe above average speed, but he does. And I think that skill set really upgrades the position because when you have that kind of speed, it makes the whole team that much better. What about him playing another position on defense, one that would require a little more range? Absolutely. And I think if push came to shove where they had to make a move during a game, it’d surprise a lot of people. You might even be able to put him in center field. Next offering is downstairs. Swing and a miss. 98 on the gun. [Music] up and in. And that’s ball three. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion, so something in the gap. Should definitely score it. Gunnar Henderson would be next if they can extend the inning. And he’s homered already, so I’m sure he’d love a chance to do some more damage here. Two outs. Fouled off again and it remains three and two. Hacks and misses. It’s a strikeout. So now here’s the DH Cali and everyone is thinking the same thing right now. Yeah, they’re thinking will he do it again? He’s already homerred twice and most recently in the seventh. This guy’s left a huge mark on this game as well as on the baseball. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Activity in the bullpen for Baltimore. Number 76. The rookie right-hander is getting loose. Fast ball on the inside corner for a strike. [Music] That misses and it’s two and one. Good purpose pitch right there trying to tease him, get him to raise his sights, pop something up and make it an easy out. Cut on and lifted in the air. Puts it away for the Now batting center. So digging in Julio Rodriguez. I think when you contemplate him as a player, the first thing you think about is defense and you think about that great arm. I also think about the speed. If he can get on, that’s going to give one more thing for that pitcher to think about. Sliced hard but foul inside. And it’s one and one. The 1-1 is fouled off. The Mariners up big in this one here in the top of the ninth. [Applause] That one inside. Look out. And they’ll do it again. One down. Base is empty. Swinging a drive deep right field. Jackson going back. Reaching for it and brings it in. Got to love the over the shoulder catch. I tell you what, those are really fun to make. Two outs. Base is empty. Josh Naylor up next for the Mariners. Drilled in the air. High and deep right field. that one back. And that one’s gone into the bleachers. He’s done it again. His second homer of the game. And they add a run. It’s 18-7. That’s their fifth homer of the game. Man, they’re all getting into the action. It’s starting to feel like a home run derby up here. When you’re working with this kind of velocity, so critical that you move the ball around, work quickly, and make sure that you keep that hitter off balance. Clearly not fooled by the location or the velocity. He was all over that fast ball. Hey, Suarez up to hit now. And a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Two down to just off the outside edge and one and one and strike two. two. This one smoked on its way out of here. [Music] His 38th of the year and they add to their lead. It’s 19-7. Backto back jacks. And this club is fired up right now, Boo. I mean, this is the kind of thing where you really start to notice hitters in a lineup feeding off each other and the collective confidence just continues to grow. Here comes the skipper and we’re going to see a pitching change in this spot. Keegan Aken done for the night and as he heads for the dugout. We’ll take a quick break. New arm on the mound when we get back. Now pitching and we’ve got ourselves a pitching change. Corbin Martin. He’s into the game with a bases empty. Corbin Martin. So, two away with nobody on. And stepping in for the Mariners, Jorge Palano and it’s fouled away. Right side. Hard hit. Get it in. Tosses to first and Palano is out. And that is that. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working. On now to the bottom of inning number nine. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. And we’re back. Bottom of the inning. Now here is Gunnar Henderson. For the Orioles, the short stop, Gunnar Henderson. Kar back to work. That one catches the corner for a strike. No ball, one strike. That one hammered but pulled foul. Look out. That ball was smoked. Man, I am so relieved that they have this netting down the lines just ensure safety for the fans. Last thing is a player Oh, and that deflects off his glove. still able to get it there in time. And even with his speed, they get the out. Now batting leftielder. Adley Rutman will hit next. A former first round pick and he’s really turned into a nice everyday player. Foul ball. The Orioles with a lot of ground to make up. We’re in the last half of the ninth inning. Swing and a tapper. Toss to Naylor. And they’re down to their last out. Now batting first baseman Ryan Mount Castle. And now Ryan Mount Castle. And that’s off the inside edge. And that is ball one. And another ball. out of the ground to third and it stays fair. Oh, that was one of those high percentage advantage counts where batting averages are just so much higher. He kind of rolled over on this pitch a little bit, but he got enough behind it to shoot it through for a knock. And you’ll take that anytime you can get him to find a hole. And the batter now Jeremiah Jackson that’s outside and it’s one and0 swing and a ball lifted in the air shallow right field and that will drop foul. [Applause] on the ground to the left and it goes just foul. The Orioles down to their final strike. That one ripped way back there. He’s got it. Ball game. And the Mariners take this one in a blowout. Well, when you reel off eight wins in a row, you’re this close to double digits. And now all of a sudden, it’s a challenge within a challenge to get two more wins to get to 10. But there’s definitely a high level of confidence that this team is playing at right now. And that’s one of those things you don’t want to rock the boat. You don’t want to disturb things. Make sure the clubhouse is giving you the same good food it’s been giving you all along and you can keep this win streak going. So, this one got a little out of hand for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding
