Dodgers postgame: Dave Roberts frustrated by ‘new season’ with NL West race

[Music] you look at just obviously it’s not three tough losses in a row after that home run from show. It felt like you guys were going to take this one. Uh what were you I guess kind of just seeing there from Alex there in the bottom of the ninth that led to the walks led to just them being able to tie the game came up and pushed extra innings. Um I think with Alex um obviously the the two walks and then also obviously had the one intentional walk but um you know gets 02 to 42 and he was just missing. Um yeah and I think the Ren Reno at bat you know he saw six straight fast balls and line one up the middle um you know get the leadoff guy on. So I don’t I don’t know. Uh I don’t know what uh you know where his misses are. Obviously the last few outings haven’t been clean or typical of what you know he’s done for us. So uh we got to dig into it. But uh yeah, it’s just it’s you know surprisingly for him uh been inconsistent, but we’ll work through it. Does it feel like a just I don’t want to say breaking point or anything, but kind of does it feel like things are starting to kind of build up when it comes to losses and maybe the pressure of getting back on track is coming a little quicker. Um, you know, I I I don’t know. I I I think that it’s you just got to play better baseball. You know, we uh we got doubled off tonight. We we got doubled off in a in a triple play situation. Um, you know, just just some things that we’re not also not helping ourselves, right, by playing good baseball. Um, I think that tonight I I thought I saw some good things as far as Henriquez was really good tonight. Um, you know, EMTT found a way to get through five innings. Um, but yeah, I mean, we still got to be better on on all fronts and um, now it’s a uh, it’s a new season. So, you know, you look at the standings and and um we got to we just got to play better baseball and and find ways to win games. The frustration of especially like weeks like this, some of the ways you guys have lost these games, like how much does that kind of mount when it comes consecutively and at a time when the division lead is dwindling and how do you kind of manage that from kind of continuing to spiral moving forward? Um, well, I I I think that, you know, there’s just certain things that you can kind of manage and and control. Um, and I don’t think we’re doing a good enough job of that as far as focusing on um the things that the little things that are certainly coming to show us big things that you can control. And um, you know, you really can’t control wins and losses, but you can control how you go about it. So, um, like I’ve said, you know, this last, you know, 3 weeks or whatever it’s been, we just haven’t played been able to stack clean, good, solid baseball games together. And, you know, once we feel like we we do and then we don’t. So, um, I think we’re I know we’re all frustrated. Um, and, uh, you know, it’s not going to turn by itself. So, uh, we’re going to, you know, go back to work tomorrow and come back to work tomorrow and try to salvage this series and find a way to beat these guys this year. When Otani hit that ball, did that kind of feel in the moment like one of those turning point kind of moments you had been looking for? And what was just the emotional swing from that and then what happened in the bottom half of the inning? It was a great it was great. You know, I think that the at bat quality, the fight, um, you know, the big hit right there, obviously you felt it in the in the dugout and, you know, and then, you know, the next inning they they get a lead off runner on base and then the inning builds and then so you kind of then you’re holding on and trying to find a way to just extend the game. And, uh, I thought Ben did a great job of getting us out of that big spot right there on the strike out to Ward. Um, but then it’s, you know, the sack bunt by Moore and it it hits a rock or something and trickles back fair and, you know, that’s how it’s going. But again, you you got to make your own breaks. Was the triple play just one of those plays that happens? Did the base runners get just kind of a bad read on it? You think I I thought I thought Miggy did a did a fine job. It’s just one of those things that it was right at uh, you know, Neto and where he was at at second base, but Dog’s got to get back. you know, the ball’s in front of them and, you know, bolting towards f second base. You know, that’s something that that can’t happen.

  3. Shohei’s sitting alone at the top of the NL HR rankings. He hasn’t pitched many IP, but his ERA’s solid. He still leads the team in SB, even though the number’s down from last year. What more do you want from him? He’s giving everything he’s got. Dave tries to tighten the team by blaming the top performer, but that’s just dodging the truth. The responsibility’s on you, and the bullpen’s the real problem. Stop running from it, Dave.

  10. Geninuely don't believe they're serious about winning if they keep putting conforto in the lineup everyday. This loss wasn't entirely on him but he's been detrimental to the lineup. He's bad offensively and saying bad is an understatement. He quite literally leads the MLB with the worst batting average at .187! You'd think maybe he'd make up his bad hitting with defense but he cant even do that either so what's the purpose of him being here then? The FO needs to eat the 17million and let him go.

  16. The problem is Friedman was dead set on getting Conforto and just had to got him but he’s been in a brutal slump Middle manager Roberts has to keep running him out there, while Friedman won’t DFA him and also skipped fixing the flimsy bullpen at the end of July.

  17. Roberts is a very political person. He works extremely hard to make sure no conflicts arise within the team. That’s how he’s managed to survive this long. Especially with stars like Mookie Betts, he never says anything they wouldn’t like. He’s very careful with players who could negatively affect his standing within the team. On the other hand, with players who don’t speak English — in other words, players who can’t really influence his status in the clubhouse — he criticizes them without hesitation.

  32. Amazing how Conforto stinks up the barn. Botched catches and absolutely astounding failures to deliver from the plate during critical MOB situations.
    Anyone into body language should look at Roberts currently. He's got the old arms crossed like he's wrapped up in straight jacket being taken to the looney bin.

  36. Conforto needs to go! Enough! Dave Roberts, when your pitcher is throwing well, LEAVE HIM IN! Pulling guys too early to put in a reliever who might be have an off night is STUPID! Let your starters go 6, 7, 8 innings. Only go to the bullpen when necessary. Find a closer too. If I was a reliever, I'd be pissed being moved around.
