Rays vs. A’s Game Highlights (8/12/25) | MLB Highlights

The start of tonight, Jacob Lopez 15th start of the season. His last three outings, it has been nothing but zeros for the left hander. He has been on quite a roll to two pitch and a strikeout, a cutter at the bottom of the zone and Kim is caught looking one away that, that’s popped up right field headed down the line and playable Colby Thomas is there and he makes the catch fighting the sun popped up. Shallow left center out goes her and he will make the catch over his shoulder a quick 1 to 3 inning for Lopez right hander, shane Boz making his 24th start of the season even up record at 88, a of 4, 9200 and 33 strikeouts in 128 innings. A swing and a miss at a nasty knuckle curve and there’s out number one on three pitches as he gets the explosive hitter, Kurtz to start swinging a chopper on two hops to short backhanded nicely by kim sets throws to first gets Rooker and that’s a nice, comfortable and efficient 123 1st for shane Boss here in West Sacramento Junior leads off the top of the second. He’ll go fishing on a breaking ball good pitch by Lopez. He caught him out in front and once again that slider and he continues with a strikeout against Pereira, that’s three strikeouts. Now for Lopez bouncing ball to third, she moves to his left throws to first and another one inning for Lopez six up, six down Soderstrom Thomas and Hernes up against Boz with no score in the bottom of the second. And Tyler ambushes the first pitch driving it into right center for a leadoff base hit that extends his hitting streak to now 12 games. Kobe hit his first major league home run in the game that Lopez started against the nationals last Thursday and he right this one, the left center, this can go for extra bases. Soderstrom will come around to score and Colby Thomas drives home the first run of the game. This was an absolute laser up the left center gap, Rio pitch. It’s a four pitch walk or a will take his base just lost the strike zone completely. That at bat. Butler rolls it on the ground hard to second handled by Lou to second one relay in time. And that’s a 463 double play ground ball chopped to short two hopper handled by Kim sets and throws in time to get and he gave up a run but able to bend but not break with Shane Boss. He’s jumped out to an early lead here to pitch called strike three. There’s another strike out for, that’s now four for Jacob and this one is just a four seam fastball, lefty fire and cross body feel like out of the hand that ball might be charging in on you. Instead, it’s got a little life back to it. Simpson who was on base four times yesterday gets a base hit for the rays first hit of the game and he’s breaking Lopez throws down to second good communication by the A’s there as Lopez didn’t initially see it able to step off the rubber and fire a strike to second to retire. Simpson slider got him swinging. Great job Jacob Lopez, his fifth strikeout. He’s faced the minimum through three, no runs, one hit, both raised hits. Look the same. That was actually all four, but he’s not taking any chances and he was able to cover the plate and drop it swinging the ball looped in the air back of second. It’s going to drop for a base hit. Yandi can only advance to second base as Thomas plays it in. And the Rays have their first situation where they’ve got two on base junior coming up, swung on and popped up foul territory. First base side, Kurtz near the coaching box under it will make the catch and there are two on the slider. Another strikeout for Lopez make that now six for Jacob, six strikeouts, one for the A and Rooker just got hit, having tremendous control issues. Thank goodness for the helmet. You never want to see baseballs end up around the head of a hitter from a pitcher’s perspective. If you Shane Boz right now, these next few moments are spent trying to kind of calm yourself down from what could have turned into an situation. 21 line drive base hit down the right field line. Rooker is going to take a turn and push for third. Soderstrom into second. He will get there. Rooker has the stop sign at third from Imar and here we go again, a double for Soderstrom 2nd and 3rd. Nobody out here comes Thomas in the air to right mango moves back, makes the catch. Is it enough, Rooker gonna tag long throw to third. It is off the bat. Soderstrom in safely. Rooker scores a sacrifice fly for Thomas his second RB I of the game and it is two to nothing. Athletics third strike out for Boz and now the infield will back out for Butler 02, breaking ball down the left field line that will score. Soderstrom Butler pulls into second base and an opposite field hit for Lawrence Butler. He has a double and makes it a 3 to 0 game. Juan Luis pops it up infield Fortes losing the bat dropped, it comes home to score. Butler going on contact with two outs. He scores and it’s a four nothing lead. What a gift for the athletics. Jake Mangham will lead it off for the Rays against Jacob Lopez. Fly ball left center field Soderstrom on the run on his horse still going. And he makes the catch tremendous play by Soderstrom. He had acres to run to get there deep left center, brushing up against the barrier and right at the 380 mark out. Number one and a wave and a miss another strikeout for Jacob Lopez. He is rolling through five scoreless innings of work here tonight. A pop outs four langeliers here tonight he’s zero for two hammered to left Simpson on the run. He dives and it gets down all the way to the wall. Lang will stop at second base with a one out double outside ball four and there’s another free pass and he swings and grounds it hard to a diving brandon Lau who pops up, throws to first and gets Soderstrom took away a hit on to third goes. Langeliers is coming home for flip is five to nothing. Fastball rides up. I mean, Fortes can’t even knock it down, but that was a great read. I mean, he did such a good job of just instantly going as soon as it went to the backstop and, but just frustrating night altogether for balls. So Lopez worked seven and two third innings in his last start trying to get through seven innings here, swung on a miss down. He goes on the cutter, nine strikeouts for Jacob Lopez. He struck out Pereira three times, two down, bounced on the left side, backed by her knees and short throws to first in time seven shutout innings for Jacob Lopez. What a performance the run he’s on. Folks has been exceptional. We’ll see if the Rays can get a monster comeback going as Masonry’s first pitch is caught by Chandler Simpson taking a hit away from Tyler Soderstrom. One pitch. That one out Kobe, it’s a drive popped in a short right center and no for a base hit perfectly placed. The second baseman going out. Wow. Breaking for second is Thomas though to second, the time of the tag save but second is Thomas low ball four. So the is have two on and one out and Butler is coming up and now he lines it the other way for a base hit Thomas getting the windmill home. Here comes the throw from Simpson. It is cut off and now tone is caught in a run down but the run will score for the second time tonight. Lawrence Butler shooting the ball the other way. A good strong throw there from Chandler Simpson in the cut off man. Butler has the R on a base hit to left giving the A A six nothing lead. This is going to cause a little bit of an uneasy feeling in the dugout if you’re mark. Yeah, six, nothing but back to back walks and como is coming up bouncing ball to short backhanded by her flips to second first and it is late at first but Hernes quite the play in the hole at short, a phenomenal job by Darryl Hernes to go to that backhand slide. Pick up the short hop, give it over to Urias in time to get the runner at second came out and the game is over the A shut out the Rays in game two and win six to nothing on the shoulders of Jacob Lopez’s seven inning shutout performance.
