Miami Dolphins STRUGGLE Against Detroit Lions In Joint Practice!

The first joint practice between the Miami Dolphins and the Detroit Lions is in the books. We will talk about how the Miami Dolphins responded to Grant Stewart’s comments and really it wasn’t that great. The offense struggled. The defense had their issues against the Lions passing attack, specifically Aman Ross St. Brown went off. Chop Robinson went down and was carded off, but we have an update on that injury and the latest I’m hearing. Plus, did Jaylen Ramsay take a shot at Mike McDaniel on the pivot? We got a ton to discuss, a ton to talk about. Do me the favor. Smash that like button, subscribe if you are new, and as always, let’s get into this. [Music] [Applause] You have got to be kidding me. [Music] Touch down. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Beautiful day to be a Dolphin fan. Let’s go. [Music] What is good F nation? What’s good? It’s more reason and we are back here for another one. Appreciate each and every one of you coming through for this episode. We got a lot to cover today. As man, I know everyone was a little ready to hit the panic button after the Bears join practice while I was sipping Shirley Temples of Miami Vices down in the Bahamas. And today is not going to put any of those Chicken Littles to rest by any stretch of the imagination. And we are going to go into the details of that all. I will be down next week for the August 19th and 20th practices as well as the joint practice against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Man, Air Canada going on strike this weekend with their flight attendants. So, I had to go out there and rebook potential backup flights because I’m expecting cancellations to start on Thursday. So, I went out there, but I’m still locked in. We’re still going to be down there. Y’all know what time it is. and I will be live when I get back to the Airbnb right after every single practice to keep you guys informed. So, a lot coming your way. Now, I’ve had a few people hit me up. I’ve had Patreons hit me up. I’ve had people on X. I’ve had emails regarding this because I was not around at the time. I was again in Bahamas celebrating my 10 year anniversary. A lot of people want to know what my thoughts are on the Zack Cer contract. Um, I love it. Uh, you know, I think, you know, I’ve said since we drafted Kenneth Grant, locking down Zack Cer so you at least know you got his Kenneth Grant’s interior partner here for a little bit of time makes a ton of sense in the world. And I was already preaching Zack Cer in my opinion deserve big money and a long-term extension more than really a lot of the money that’s been handed out to a lot of almost every player in the Flores McDaniel regime. So I’m a I’m happy with it. I think it’s smart. I think, you know, what we saw from Kenneth Grant in week one of the preseason as well as Jordan Phillips and Zeke Biggers added to what we already have with that, you know, pretty deep edge room and that linebacking room. Man, we might have a really ferocious front seven and something to deal with. And really, I don’t think it was a bad deal by any stretch of the imagination. I don’t think they overpaid. I don’t think any of that is the case. I just thought it was a really really fair deal for everyone involved. Um, so for me, you if you’re coming here to to hear me crap on that, you’re you’re not going to hear it, right? They gave him what? 64 million over three years with 44 million guaranteed. Cheaper than Christian Wilkins, healthier, and quite frankly, better. So, this coming off the heels when he signed that three-year 38.65 million deal in 2023. He still has some time left on that deal. Man, you know, back-to-back 10 plus sack seasons. I mean, he’s a top 10 defensive lineman in the NFL. So, I mean, I I don’t know how anyone can say anything negative about that signing. I I I if you showed me someone who was negative about that signing, I would have serious questions. I mean, a man deserves it. So, I’m not going to sit here and um bash that contract. I think it’s a good deal for both sides. I think it was fair for us. I think he got paid and let’s get to work. You know what I mean? Let’s get to work. He looked dominant early on in that game, too, might add. He looked real good. So, um, in that preseason week game, so week one game. So, yeah. Um, we’re good. We are good with Zack Ser. No issues for me because I know people wanted to hear my thoughts. So, that’s my takeaway. It shouldn’t have been a surprise to anyone. I I really I didn’t even feel the need even though I was away, I didn’t even really feel the need to go live because people would have automatically known how I felt about the situation, right? So yeah, I’m happy with it. Chalk me up as one of those people that are happy. Um, now moving on here. All right. Uh, we got, you know, Grant Stewart was out here talking his ish yesterday and I just want to say this. Julian Hill beat Grant Stewart in one-on- ones over the top. You getting Moss. You talking all this smack and then you out here getting mossed by Julian Hill. Please, please. Grant Stewart talking all that. Um, and Shidor Sanders, if you guys didn’t see it, if you guys liked what you saw in week one, apparently he’s injured his oblique in practice today. So, it doesn’t look like Shadur is going to be practicing the rest of the week or playing in that game on Saturday. So, um, and I just want to shout this man out. Shout out to Travis Wingfield, you know, for keeping those facts in check on that. I appreciate you, Travis. You’re the absolute man. Matthew says, “Sealer’s my goat. Waiting for the rivalry uni to drop so I can snag his.” Yeah, I I’m definitely getting the rivalry jersey. I I don’t know who I’m getting yet. It’s probably going to be a Channer Chop for me. So, I’m thinking Achan to be completely honest with you. So, um yeah. Oh, I love it. I love it. It’s absolutely beautiful stuff. Absolutely beautiful stuff. So, that’s what you’re going to I can’t wait to see what these uniforms look like and what we’re only like two weeks away from seeing them, right? So, I can’t wait to see what what they’re going to look like at all. So, I’m probably going to go achan with that. Shout out to everyone in the chat already coming through. I appreciate all of you. Shout out to Matthew Goded 775. Not Matthew Gallagher, but Matthew God said Supreason. Hope you and the fam are well, man. We’re doing good. Just living off that, you know, coming off that Bahamas high and then next week I’m back at it in Miami. I can’t wait to get back into the sun. I’m not going to lie. I I I’m not gonna lie. I can’t wait to get back into the sun next week. Even though I know while I’m down there and it’s beating on me first thing in the morning, I’m going to be hating life for a little bit. But man, football takes the pain away. So, I can’t wait to get down there with good food, have some good hangouts, and watch some football. And hopefully I I you know, I see a better joint practice with the Jags and what the Dolphins have showed through two joint practices already. And I got to say this guys, we talked about this, you know, on the weekend when I came back here, guys. We beat up on the Eagles a couple years ago. Even Eagles to the point Eagles players thought we were going to the Super Bowl. And what happened? They went to the Super Bowl and we were sitting at home eating, you know, Doritos. I mean, that’s the reality of the situation. So, yes. Am I concerned with how things are going so far out of training camp? There’s definitely some cause for concern here. I will also say in all fairness against the Bears on Sunday, did that look like a team that was getting bullied the Friday before? So, we’ll see how they respond tomorrow. We’re going to get into it all. And plus, we got the preseason game to play. So, we got a lot to get into. Let’s hop right into it because there is just so much to go over. And as usual, you know, we’re going to start with Travis Wingfield and everything he had to say. We’re also going to get it to some of to his postgame comments, what Ramsay said. I’m going to show you what some of the Detroit Lions beat writers are saying. Got a lot to cover here. All right, so let’s start off with Travis Wingfield and this is what he saw today. So to his first rep in seven verse sevens was a dot up the middle sideline to Achan for an explosive call it 40 caught in stride. Aman Ross St. Brown is a great challenge for the Dolphins corners. He’s an artist of a route runner. He got Jack Jones for touchdowns twice in one verse ones. Zach Wilson picked off twice in seven vers sevens. First was a batted pass straight in the air. Second was underthrown on a vertical and the DB made a leaping grab. Oh, there’s that underthrown word. We’ve seen that in real time and he’s only played one game, one preseason game as a Dolphin. Andrew Armstrong and Theo Weise had nice one verse one periods. Then they had catches in their first two reps of seven on seven. Armstrong’s nice catch off frame on a wide throw from Uers. Turus throws a perfect ball at the seam. Julian Hill has a backer stack, but he can’t finish the catch. Escridge and Malik both had catches from two in the seven verse seven period. Both got good separation with the ball on them out of the break against the Lions top cover guys. Uer split two defenders to find AJ Henning in a tight window. Lions defender um collided trying to squeeze it and Henning strolls in for six. Patrick Paul and Jonas Vaniah escort right around the corner for a good gain on a toss. Escridge has a diving catch, keeping the feet in bounds on a throw from Wilson. Escridge has made a few plays. Next rep, Zack Wilson as Farrell Brown coming open on a boot and overshoots it. There you go. Then Chop Robinson did leave practice on a cart. We’ll have more information on that in a little bit. Tell you what I’m hearing. Achan takes his turn getting a Pat Jonah escort to that left side for a big gain. On the other field, Lions hit a chunk run. They dial up play action. Dante Trader recognized and was in shape for big hit if it were a lie. Lions hit an explosive pass, but Trader is there again for a big hit. This time he makes it, but Khalif Raymond hangs on to the football. Goff is looking sharp. Three straight completions, two in very tight windows. Seer beat the left guard for a sack on the next play to his next team period was tough sledding. Coverage was good and he was forced to throw into tight windows or create. ESGridge continues to stand out without Reek and Wadd repping. He made a nice catch on an intermediate throw. Don’t like hearing that. Goth is dialed has the smallest window in red zone and fitted in for a touchdown. Next play, Jordan Brooks is one verse one with Gibbs in the B gap and runs right over him. Next play, he has a pass breakup. to a throw away first ball, but then Achan took another run around the corner for 10. Tua then goes to water for a touchdown. Tyrell Dawson this time shuts down a Lions run. Sailor Grant and Bonito are stacking things up just before Travis hit send. They hammer one in from five yards out. Good surge that time. Had an effective double on Bonito Jones. Jaylen Wright slashes in from five yards out. Nice cut back off the wash off Brewer. Other field you couldn’t have covered. St. Brown better than Jason Marshall did, but I’m on Raw pins it onehanded on Marshall’s shoulder. Then he has a touchdown on Jack Jones. He’s made every play imaginable out here. Jordan Phillips causes a pileup and Eugene Asante fits it in for the stop. Um Asante had a pass break up earlier in the period. Zeke Biggers and Grayson Murphy stack up a goal line run. Other field, Zach Wilson has his touchdown of the period on a ball to the back corner to Can Tanner Connor. It was tough sledding until the two for the Wilson le offense. Takeaways so far up until that point for Travis. Lions D was well connected and shut a lot of plays down with coverage. Protection was good, but Tua had to move throw it away a few times with limited waddle action and no wreak for a team. Their run game was more successful than the pass game. Ain had a handful of big plays run and pass. Thought Miami D matched the physicality of the Lions, but Goff and St. Brown were basically perfect. They didn’t get much on the ground, but Goff was throwing handoffs and St. Brown catches everything. Ma feels a crosser coming his way and cuts it off. He thinks Goff saw him before he the release because the ball was uncharacteristically way behind and incomplete. Then Ma breaks up a pass, but Cer Grant had collapsed for the sack ahead of the throw. There you go. Zack Cer and Kenneth Grant making things happen. Passing offense continues to result in some throwaways. He’s lost count at this point. Jordan Phillips rides a center out to the numbers and throws him before stacking up the back. Looks like he did on Sunday. Now they double Jordan Phillips. He rides it wide then anchors as they try to keep taking him, but he stacks it up and Channing Tindle scrapes for the stop. Cam good drops in coverage and puts a shoulder on the football on a crossing tight end to jar it free. Move the ball. End of game period. Lines Z gets a four and out. Julian Hill caught two balls, won a first down, but then a false start. A pass break up and an incompletion to write results in turnover on downs. The golf to St. Brown show continues. Narrow window and Goff finds sliding St. Brown down the middle for 25, but then Bradley Chub beats Su for what looked like a sack, but they gave Goth the completion. Quinton Bell then celebrates a sack on the next play, but they award another completion. Ethan Bonner then shuts down Goff’s third down throw with textbook coverage on Jameson Williams. He was three yards out of bounds when the ball got there. And then just to add context from a um Lions beat reporter, practice did end with a fight. It was Jameson Williams and Ephiatu Melanu. So a few things to talk about here. Number one, offense clearly struggled, but let’s highlight something here. Aside from Goff and St. Brown, they weren’t I talked to someone who had boots on the ground today. They did not Their run game w wasn’t really doing much against us. Our run defense is crazy. Our rushing offense was far better than our passing offense. And because of St. Brown and Goff, our run defense was much more stout than our pass defense today. So, you know what’s not good about this, and I can see where people are going to go. The issue we all had being that secondary got exposed a little bit against a true number one today. Now, again, it’s preeason. I get that it’s joint practice. I get that. But I put a lot more stock into joint practices, and this is known around here. I put a lot more stock in the joint practices than I do when we’re practicing against when the defense is practicing against the offense. Now, would love to see some film so we could see who I mean, we we got a few like, you know, made a crazy catch against Jason Marshall, but I would love to see who the culprits were that Aman Ross St. Brown was beating. Was it Cam Smith because he was back today, you know? Um, but love hearing that Cer and Grant are putting in the work. Front seven looks good. Back doesn’t look so great. And then that passing offense, it was it was just a struggle for them today. That passing offense struggled today. So, let’s get into what the Miami Herald had to say about today’s practice. So at 10:50 a.m. several dollars are not practicing. Jaylen Phillips, Mo Kamara, Austin Jackson, Ashton Davis, Alec Ingold, Andrew Meyer, Keon Smith and Baron Matoss. Now Elijah Campbell returned to practice today. Five minutes later, St. Brown torched Jones in a one-on-one matchups involving the quarterback, receiver, and defensive back. Then St. Brown made a sideline on that sequence. Dolphins signed Julian Hill beat Grant Stewart um who talked some smack about the Dolphins this week over the top and one-on- ones. Jason Marshall who didn’t allow completion on either targeting against him in Chicago had excellent coverage on Ronnie Bell at 11 seven on seven action. Willie Gay and safety Minka bits Patrick stop Sam Laora for a short gain. Tango connected with Devon Ain on the side for sideline for decent gain. Now, we know Travis said that was about 40 yards, so that’s a bit better than decent, but okay. Zack Wilson was intercepted twice in seven on sevens. Ones was batted pass that went straight up in the air. The other was underthrown and Whiteside jumped and snagged it. Some more one-on-one work. Rookie defensive lineman Kenneth Grant drove back Tate Ratlich, but Pro Bowl offensive lineman Pines easily handled Chop Robinson in their duel. Some more seven work. Monroe St. Brown beat Cornell Armstrong. There you go. For a long touchdown. Tongaloa threw a pass that tight end Julian Hill dropped and then overthrew Nick Westbrook A in seven on sevens. Zach Wilson shaking off two interceptions completed two two downfield passes, one to rookie AJ Henning. D E S Eridge and Malik Washington both had receptions as well. Derek McClendon, Quinton Bell, and Murphy easily won their one-on-one reps against Lions offensive linemen. Robinson lost another rep against Su. All this is 11-11 work. Goff connected with St. Brown for 15, beating Ethan Bonner. Gibson and Bolton for 10. Brooks forced the fumble by David Montgomery who recovered it. Chop Robinson’s carded off the field with an undisclosed injury. Um, Devon Hian had a significant gain for a run that featured some misdirection. Dolphins quarterback Jack Jones, who was torched in one-on- ones, had an excellent tackle for a loss against Lions running back Craig Reynolds. Reynolds responded with a 21-yd run up the middle. Next though, Wilson missed a wideopen Eric Kazakama, but delivered a strong throw to tight end Frell Brown. Linebacker Willie Gay and safety Dante Trader were called for unnecessary roughness during simultaneous action. Look at this. I love it. Take it. Get called for unnecessary roughness. Send a message if you’re going to lose. Leaporta made a leaping 20-yard catch with Brooks in coverage. Goff, he hit Lions receiver St. Brown beating Duck for 10 yards. So St. Brown was beating everyone we threw at him. Goff then found Raymond for 15 yards on the sideline and hit St. Brown for 20. Zack Cer then sacked Goff. Finally, a good defensive play. Now Jones broke up a Henden Hooker pass to Caleb Reynolds. Detroit was called for a false start in the play. Good. Then sacked Hooker. Isaiah Johnson had a good open field tackle on Zack Horton. On the other field, Escridge made a nice catch on a two-way throw. The Lions got the better of that Dolphins possession. After Wilson entered, Roy Lopez immediately sacked him. Wilson then overthrew Esgridge and underthrew Trey Rick Black. Lions forced Dolphin quarterbacks out of the pocket on multiple occasions today. From red zone drills, Jaylen Wadd took a screen pass from Tongalo and ran it for a touchdown. Goff hit Williams for 20 yard touchdown with Kendall Sheffield in coverage. Brooks stopped running Lions running back Gibbs at the line of scrimmage, then forced an incomplete pass to Sam Laaporta. Brooks and Dodson then combined to stop Montgomery for a short game. Gibbs scored on a six-yd run. Jones is chirping at the Lions offensive line. Brooks came over to grab Jones and settle him down. More red zone work. Lions star receiver St. Brown had a nice one-handed catch on Dolphins rookie quarterback Jason Marshall, who had tight coverage. It was a perfect throw from Goff. was very sharp Wednesday. Brown then punted the ball in the air after scoring. Brown then scored another touchdown against Jack Jones from five yards out. Montgomery scored on a five-yard touchdown run and Dolphins quarterback Jack Jones for the second time took issue with Detroit players. There was a lot of pushing and shoving, but no punches thrown. Even more red zone work. Jaylen Wright scored on a 5-yard touchdown, but the next red zone session ended with the Lions sacking Tangoa. Cam Smith stopped Lions receiver Isaac Tislaw, who’s apparently being really good after a five-yard gain. Grayson Murphy had a tackle for loss on Lions running back Dion Jackson. On the other field, Wilson hit tight end Tanner Connor for a touchdown and then hit Tick Black for a touchdown. Isakama dropped a potential touchdown from Wilson. Uh Mike Boon fumbled in the red zone. That’s not good for just being added. The Lions sacked Tongalo twice in the two minutes of real time. Love it. Quarterbacks have been forced to scramble all day on the other field. Fitzpatrick broke up a golf pass. Jir Gibbs ran for 10 yards, but the Dolphins stopped David McGomery after a short run. Dolphins linebacker Jordan Brooks then had a great open field tackle on Montgomery, who was held to a short gate on a swing route. Detroit’s Rody Bell gained six yards on a run before being stopped by Brooks and Tyrell Dodson. Goff hit Williams for 20 yards. Cam good then stopped Craig Reynolds for a loss. Zach Wilson’s throw to Turk Black threw a pass interference penalty on the Lions Eric Howlet. A situational period began with consecutive receptions by Julian Hill for short gains. Dolphins then committed a false start penalty. There have been too many of those during training camp. Kirby Johnson, the Detroit safety, broke up a pass to Destridge. And Tungalo threw high to Jaylen Wright on fourth down, ending a Dolphins possession. Larry Borum, who’s filling in for the injured Austin Jackson, was consistently beaten by Aiden Hutcherson during team drills. Lions receiver Aman Ross St. Brown beat Dolphins quarterback Cornell Armstrong for a 20-yard gain on another nifty throw from Goff. Goff then hit Brock Wright for a seven-yard gain and Ronnie Brown for a gain. As Detroit marched down the field, Jordan Brooks was called for defensive holding. Ethan Bonner had great coverage on Goff’s throw to Jameson Williams who caught for three yards out of bounds at the conclusion of practice. And then practice ended with a small skirmish. The Detroit News identified um Dolphin safety Ephiatu Melanu and Jameson Williams as the participants. So, I mean, not only are we getting the scrap at the end of practice, but clearly things are getting choppy enough where Jack Jones had to be restrained and Jack Jones was continuously jawjacking with Lions players. Clearly, Jack Jones was not happy about something. So, I mean, here’s the thing. In no way, shape, or form are um in no way, shape, or form are they getting bullied. It’s just, let’s be real here. From everything we read, if Alma and Ross St. Brown didn’t look like Jerry Rice out there today, would we really be would we really be himming and hawing? And are Goff and Aman Ross St. Brown going to play this week? I don’t know. Now, that’s not an excuse. I’m not using that as an excuse because if it was a real life game, you got to find a way to stop the guy. But it’s kind of a little dosage of well, we’re not surprised because all the whole fan base kind of expected this looking at the secondary. when you get a true dog number one coming in here with an accurate quarterback, you know, it it was issues, right? And it sound, you know, our offense, our passing game was up and down. That’s the fact of the matter. I mean, I can’t believe Zach Wilson’s out here throwing multiple picks in seven on sevens. But on the flip side, you know, we don’t even have a true one today. Waddle was out there a little bit. He from what I understand he wasn’t a full go. He did have he did play but he wasn’t like every snap out there. No Tyreek, you know. So, you know, listen, I can’t sit here and say that they’re softer getting bullied around when the defense is clearly getting in the face of the Lions, scrapping with the Lions, jawjacking the Lions. You know what I mean? Clearly. So, and you know, go to Travis his report. Jonah and Patrick Paul were creating lanes in the run game. You know, if you’re soft, you ain’t going to win in the run game, James. H, you know, how worried are you? Um, I’m not worried yet. you know, now if we go out and blow it against the Colts in week one. Okay. Yeah, I’m gonna start getting worried. So, but I’m not I’m not crying. Let’s see what they do tomorrow. You know, here’s the thing, okay? How are you going to respond? All right, against Chicago, you got everyone said we got bullied. He was out in Chicago. What? This wasn’t a team that got bullied when they played on Sunday. How are you going to respond now? And I can’t even sit here and say they got bullied today. It’s just clearly golf was locked in and Amal Ross St. Brown was exposing the biggest weakness next to the tight end room we know we have on this team. And again, I go back to this guys. a couple years ago were beating the crap out of the Philadelphia Eagles in joint practices to the point where Philadelphia Eagles players thought we were going to the Super Bowl, literally. And how did that work out? So, let’s see. None of this stuff matters until the wins and losses start mattering. So, Suns Sentinel. Now, that said, I like I’ve said, I still put a lot more stock in joint practices than I do normal training camp practices. So, you know, let me just say that I’m talking about in the for the endgame, what matters is what we do in season. Miami Dolphins outside linebacker Ch Robinson was taken off the practice field on a cart on Wednesday to join practice against the Detroit Lions. Wasn’t great. Um, so and they said it’s not a head injury. I can confirm that. I I’ll tell you what I know about it when we get into it here. Um, so here’s some observations they had. It was a lopsided joint practice where the Dolphins offense rarely made much happen and the defense was torn up by Jared Goff and Amanra St. Brown. St. Brown was having his way with Jack Jones, whoever else. And we saw that, right? You know, we’ve been through multiple updates now, and we’ve seen every name in the book from Cornell Robinson to Sheffield to, you know, Jack Jones. Doesn’t matter. They’re all getting shredded. The AllPro selection the past few years had a pair of touchdown receptions in red zone drill and he punted the ball in the air after one of those catches. St. Brown also got the best of Jones in a one-on-one rep. Tongue of Aloa was sacked several times. 11-11 drill started with him sacked. He’s a victim to back-to back sacks on a later drive. Though the combination of leaky pass protection and Detroit coverage in the secondary, Tunglow did not throw an interception after he threw three against Chicago last Friday. He was forced into several throwaways. Tyreek Hill was not seen doing any drill work against the Lions and Jaylen Wadd was limited in team drills with a restricted snap count. Most likely McDaniel will be very judicious in utilizing either receiver who McDaniel said are dayto-day. Wall appeared to score a touchdown from tongue alone in a screen pass in a red zone drill. The officials may have ruled he would have been tackled by as Watum put moves on the linebackers, sorry, on the line’s DBs. Tangaloa hit A10 down the sideline in an early seven on seven play. Pane Su stopped Robinson one-on-one before Robinson got hurt. It’s no surprise that Sul is one of the best in the league, so he gives Robinson good competition to go against. The day started a little better for the offense early on when Julian Hill beat Grant Stewart for reception in an early one-on-one drill. So Stewart was later seen tracking Olly Gordon on a wide run and tackling to the ground. In Oline Dline one-on-1s, Aiden Hutchinson started by sweeping around Dolphins Larry Boram. Patrick Paul forced a rush by Edge Mitchell Aguay to go wide. Kenneth Grant, the first round pick, won a one-on-one rep versus Tate Rattlage, which I heard he dominated him on it. Jackson Carbon and Braden Daniels were seen winning reps. Zack Wilson was intercepted twice in seven on seven. First by Ian Kennley off a deflection and then by Nick Westside. Wilson responded to those INTs with a nice pair of throws, one downfield to AJ Henning. Tongue overthrew A over the top in a sevenon seven. Junior Hill earlier was open over the top but dropped the pass. Start 111 work. Tongalo was sacked. Sacks seemed to come from the vicinity of Paul. Achan was also in pass protection. H in had a nice gain coming around on a run with some misdirection. Aaron Brewer was getting after it finding some one to block downfield on backto-back. Wilson throws the deep sideline one over throw to Escridge. He then he had an underthrow to Tariq Black while Jones struggled to match up against St. Brown. He had a pass breakup. Isaiah Johnson made an open field pet tackle. Uh Mike Boon fumbled in the red zone. It was punched out by Eric Howlet. Two-minute drill at the end of practice. Tongaloa hits Julian Hill for short gains on back-to-back plays. On third and four, Borum flag for false start. On third and nine from the 21 yd line, Lions break up a pass to Escridge. On fourth and nine, Tongalo pass to Jaylen Wright. Sails high and is incomplete. Turnover on downs on the two-minute defensive drill. Goff 25 yardd completion to St. Brown. Goff to Shane Zilstra. Complete for the n to the 19 yd line. On third and two from Miami’s 19, Goff threw high to Ethan Bonner’s side. He had blanket coverage, but Brooks was flagged for defensive holding covering Sam Laora. Goff was four for five passing on the possession. There was a quick scuffle to end the practice. Um, it was hard to see, but it s it was Jameson Williams and Ephata Malafanu. There had been a few skirmishes on the field with the Dolphins defense went against the Lions offense, but the other field was relatively clean. So, um, stock up on a day where there weren’t many positives to take away from the Dolphins performance. Brooks at linebacker forced the fumble on Montgomery and had a few strong team reps in coverage. Stock down Jack Jones was getting picked on by Goff. St. Brown had his way with Jones when he was covering him and the newcomer Miami secondary was hearing it from the line sideline as they chirped him. That’s not good. That is not good at all. So, a few things I do want to talk about here. All right. Number one thing I do want to talk about um Jack Jones, you better get it together, bro. Oh my god, we had so much riding on Jack Jones and here we go. Here we go. Don’t like seeing the leakiness in terms of the sacks that are coming down on Tua. And speaking of the leakiness, I do want to talk about Larry Bor because apparently it was like the sledding was seriously rough for Larry Borum today. And um apparently, and this is from, you know, Miami Herald reporter uh Isaiah Smalls, Aiden Hutcherson was consistently beating Larry Borum during team drills so badly that the ref stop blowing the whistle so that the offense could actually get through the play. Think about that for a second. Larry Borum was getting beaten so bad by Aiden Hutcherson today. The ref stopped blowing the whistle and said, “You just got to get through the play.” Ryder McConville comes through and says, “O2, looks like we’re not going to the joint practice playoffs.” Hey man, we win the joint practice every year. We win we win the offseason every year. And what does it get us? Everything’s going in the reverse. So hopefully things go in reverse come, you know, December and January. God me. H. So, um, now Chop Robinson, everyone wants to know what happened with Chop Robinson. Chop Robinson did tweet, “I’m good, y’all. Nothing serious.” So, we dodged a bullet with Chop Robinson. Chop Robinson make sure to let the fan base knows that he’s good. That we got nothing to worry about. He made it. He’s good. So, man, at least there that was that was more important to me than how joint practice ended, you know, and who won and lost in joint practice. I, you know, if if it wouldn’t have mattered if Tyreek Hill was there and W was a full participant and they had blew those lights off the Lions defense, if he would have lost Chop for a serious extended period of time, that would have been a loss either way. So, um, now what do I know about the injury? I was told it’s the elbow. Um, and I I was told it’s nothing really serious. And the reason why I was told he was carded off was because it was a long distance to the locker room. So that’s where that that’s what I heard that it was an elbow issue and that he was carded off because of the distance to the locker room. So um and I heard that as soon as the injury happened before he even like tweeted out or sorry Instagrammed out. So let’s hope we’re good there. Now, I do want to show you what some of the Detroit Lion, you know, because they’re they’re bi like, you know, I mean, you can say the Lions bias, whatever, but cuz here’s what some of the people who cover the Detroit Lions said from what they witnessed today at practice. So, this is non-Miami media takes. These are some tweets that they put out. All right. Colton Pouncy said, “That was the most lopsided joint practice I’ve ever seen. The Lions dominated both sides.” Jeremy Ryman from the Detroit On Lions podcast said, “Lions defense had the most dominant joint practice I’ve ever witnessed. Word is was that it was just as lopsided in the Lions offense’s favor.” Um, Mike Payeyton from A to Z said, “Either the Dolphins are really bad or the Lions are a juggernaut. Not a great day for Miami.” And then Nick Bombgardner had a bunch of stuff to say. He said, “Lions just out everything the Dolphins for two hours out here. Lobsided as lopsided a joint NFL practice as I’ve ever seen.” Ammon Ross St. Brown caught just about every target thrown at him, including a crazy sideline touchdown where he caught it one-handed, pinned it to the DB’s head before ripping it away for the score. We know that was on Jason Marshall, right? Dominant day for Detroit. Biggest takeaway for me is that Detroit’s first defense looks legit. Miami did nothing offensively in the red zone in team nothing. This is the best the Lions offense has looked at in practice and it’s no coincidence they didn’t have to take reps versus their own D today. Now, if you want to hear something more, a positive takeaway, I guess, Al Caren, who was there, said Dolphin secondear edge rusher Derrick McClendon was easily their most impressive defensive player today, earning pass rush wins in both one-on- ones versus and team drills. He even lined up inside and rotated with the first team. He seems like a keeper. Grayson Murphy and Zack Cer were other standouts, even as their defense was marched up and down the field on. So there were some takeaways from people who were covered down there to cover the Lions. So man, rough rough. At least at least you got a little out finessed on defense and you didn’t get bullied on defense. Small victories. Small victories, you know. Um, so you know, um, I was, if you go read Detroit Lions on SI, um, basically, um, they had a few things to discuss and, you know, um, it wasn’t anything crazy that we haven’t really heard. Um, you know, they went over how Chop Robinson couldn’t beat Pen Suel in the pit. Um, Derek McClendon, um, he, uh, he was beating Giovan Manu. So, that that’s good, right? Um, a Hutcherson had two sacks in a three-play span in 11-11 drills and Rocky and Devonte Maddox had tight coverage on a pass from Tonga Valoa. So, Aiden Hutchson was a nightmare. Um, so Patrick Paul had a holding penalty against Aiden Hutcherson. Basically Paul wrapped his hand around Hutcherson’s neck. Um, yeah, Zach Wilson, they they highlighted his struggles. Um, you know, DJ Reed had a pass breakup on Destridge, so Malikica Washington had a Meek Robertson all over him. Um, so It was rough for that offense. It was rough for that offense. So, but yeah, they uh they look up and down day for that defense. Not a good day for the offense at all. So, um now let’s continue on here to a tongue of Aloa. He discussed practice with the reporters after it was done. this is what he had to say. I think today offensively was a very frustrating day. Um, you know, in regards to what we wanted to do, what we said we wanted to do came out, you know, and and we we just weren’t able to get things jump started. So, that was very frustrating today. not good to a tongue below basically coming out here and saying we couldn’t get a rhythm going, you know, and there’s going to be people that are going to say they need Wadd and Tyreek at full health cuz this shows just how much that operate that offense needs to operate with those weapons creating space, right, with their speed which is going to open up other stuff, right? Um, it’s it’s it’s going to be um it’s it’s going to be painful. It’s going to be potentially painful. Um, without those guys in there because now you just have no who’s creating space for you. No one, you know, no one’s afraid of Malik Washington or Nick Westbrook taking the top off. So, I don’t know. We’ll see how it goes, but it was a tough one. Um, it was a tough one for the Miami Dolphins today, especially on offense. At least the defense, they were making some plays, but clearly the offense, you know, there just wasn’t much there for them at all. So, um, gotta come back tomorrow and you got to smash him in the mouth. I don’t know what else to tell you, right? We’ll see. I I still don’t think they’re beating the I I still don’t think they’re losing to the Colts in week one. So, it just in a timing offense that’s predicated on speed, you’re going to feel the effects even when the quarterback’s in there if you don’t have Wadd and Tyreek. It’s the way this guy’s designed it. So, for good or for bad, 400 of you in the room, smash that like button. Subscribe if you are new. Now, let’s go ahead and talk about Jaylen Ramsay. All right, we got a lot to talk about with Jaylen Ramsay, but before we do talk about Jaylen Ramsay, um Josh Miller says, “We are closer to competing for a top 10 pick than they are for a playoff spot. The lack of energy put in the building, the offensive line is the NFL’s version of treason.” I still don’t believe that. I still believe in this roster a little bit. I think what what scares me to is the reason we won games despite flow and stubborn bad leadership. What scares me is we are closer to I think we’re closer to nine and eight or eight and nine than we are to this thing bot bottoming it out for a top 10 pick. That’s what worries me. You know, you’re closer to middle of the pack picking. I would prefer, hey, either you make the playoffs and pick in the late 20s or hopefully the last pick by winning the Super Bowl or you’re picking in the top 10, top five. It’s the people that, you know, we saw this through the Tanahill area when you’re stuck in between that. That’s what I don’t want. That’s what I don’t want to see. Either everyone stays healthy and we ball out or these guys get hurt, go down, and you put out Quinn Yers and everyone and just see what you got. And because if the ship sinks, well, at least you can go get some good picks next year. So, but um also shout out to the sponsor of today’s video. That would be Clean the World. If you’re going to support one of my sponsors, just make sure it’s clean the world. They are doing absolutely fantastic stuff over there. All right, so shout out to Sean and shout out to everyone over at Clean the World. Fantastic people doing fantastic work. All right. Now, Jaylen Ramsay, he went ahead and he had some there’s an interesting clip that came out regarding what he said on the pivot. Let’s talk about it. It was uh it was in the works for a little minute. I would say something else. It it it was in the works, but things had to get put together the right way. Things had to come together from from my standpoint to the Dolphins to the Steelers. I think all of us had to come to a I guess you could say agreement. We all had to come to a a consensus on uh what it would be. I I do appreciate the Dolphins and them working with me and David, you know, not just, hey, this team called and you know, we gonna send you here and this and that. Like, it wasn’t any of that. It was very open communication with, yo, we yo, the this is, you know, y’all been good to us. I’ve been good to y’all. Like, let’s do it the right way. Let’s go to a team that’s going to be able to compete. Let’s go to a team where there’s a lot of respect for the head coach in there and you know the staff a place where I can continue developing playing at a high level maybe be versatile and then you know I had to let David do his thing too. you know, the money the money was involved. So, he did his thing with with that. And then, you know, obviously the Steelers, you know, they really they really wanted me here. And, you know, at the end of the day, I wanted to be here as well. And so, I just let the it got to a certain point where I was like, everything is good on my end. Let’s get the business handled. Y’all do that part and y’all let me know when it’s a go. So, that kind of took a little a little minute to get done, but once that got done, it was it was like, let’s go. So, everyone’s taking the comment he made there regarding um um the head coach situation. Everyone’s taking that as a shot to McDaniel. Um honestly, I I kind of do see it as a shot at McDaniel. you know, I mean, why did we have to throw in, you know, you could have just said, you know, they made sure I went to a team that was competing, but instead he made sure, let’s go to a team where there’s a lot of respect for the head coach. And we know there was the disconnect between Ramsay and McDaniel. It’s clearly he’s once again rubbing in the fact that, hey, I don’t respect you and there might be other people out there that don’t respect you. So, I mean, I don’t know. You know, I think that was intentional. It is what it is. I mean, we all know how he feels about the head coach. So, I you know, and we can all pretty much agree Mike Tomlin’s respected much more than Mike McDaniel around the league. So, guys, smash that like button, subscribe if you’re new, let me know if you think Jaylen Ramsey took a shot at McDaniel. Give me your thoughts on what happened at joint practice today in the comments below. I’ll see you on the next one. will be live tomorrow.

  1. That offense doesnt sound to bad really.. good run game is good to hear and Tua playing decent even with no Reek and limited Waddle… with a Waddle TD in his limited work… Most of the struggles sounds like it was Zach Wilson and Ewers not so much Tua and not many CBs is stopping Goff to St. Brown

  2. This is good really… maybe this show McDaniel and Grier that CB room needs someone to sure it up a little against a real #1 receiver like St Brown with a good veteran QB.. we are gonna be alright. Still early preseason too

  3. The lion and the bears primarily plan man defense and the way you stop this offense is to get physical with the receiver on the line. I am happy we are getting our butt quick it might make Tua and McDaniel better.

  4. GREAT, that 20 days into practice/preseason 12 days into pads our $64 MILLION DOLLAR receiver room is absent. Why would we want to get the wrinkles ironed out like Geoff and St.Brown.

    Go figure Overthrowing a 5'9" Wright…

  5. Guys is practice, why are we panicking like if this was a regular season game
There was no game planning, Hill was not there and Waddle was limited, the overreaction from everyone is crazy and this includes the reporters.

  6. Might as well play aliens from mars/Endor, not in the div or anything relative. Lions can talk but the expectations are on them. Jordan Phillips is going to be a stud. Please crown a RB early and stay with it. Jay Ajayi…. won the div last just sayin.

  7. I think its going to be a LONG season for us Dolphins fans…..hopefully Mcdaniel & Grier will be gone after this season!……but I have no faith is Ross finding the right replacements!

  8. Hope you have a great and safe night Reason as well as your family. I'm so happy you and your family had such a great time in the Bahamas.
The Dolphins will be better than last season. Remember that the Dolphins would've won those 2 games @ Bills ( Dolphins only lost due to a HUGE pentalty of illegal hit is why the Dolphins lost with a last second field goal and Arizona last second field goal. The Dolphins would've been in their 3rd straight playoff appearance and here there's talks about negative things that shouldn't even be mentioned at all.
Love your show and see you next time. Have a great and safe night.
    Fins Up
