MLB Now | San Diego Padres hold 1-game lead over Dodgers in NL West – Brian Kenny reactions
Uh, what do you make of this? I think the Dodgers, too. Here’s the other thing. I’m I’m watching that game going, “Are you sending him out to for the fifth?” He’s a little gassed. Not saying he’s totally gassed. A little gassed. And guess what? I was at the time they were not in first place. I’m thinking, “Hey, Dave Roberts, you’re not in first place. You’re halfback. Now they’re one back. What do you make of that? Padres’s are in on top now.” They’re they’ve rarely been in the situation. Like, and if we look at the last decade, they’ve always been the leader in the pack. They’ve always had the target on their back. Now they have to be the chaser of the San Diego Padres’s who we talked about yesterday. Vibes are really high in San Diego. They’re playing really good baseball. I’m interested to see how the Dodgers play as the team that has to chase down somebody for the first time in a day. They’ve they had that I I told you when they got the nine-game lead. I shut up about the tad disappointing Dodgers. They’re more than a tad disappointing now. And they just they got swept by the Brewers. They got swept by the Angels. This is the super hedge fund team. This is surprising, Steve. Yeah. Well, injuries are part of it. And and yet They deserve the injuries because they signed guys knowing they had been had a history of it. So, it’s not like they can complain about it when you knew the potential was there for it to happen. The offense has fallen off, which is a big part of it. Freddy Freeman’s not been the same with in and Mookie Bats hasn’t been the same. Muny was out for a period of time. Otani’s a little bit less now since he’s been pitching and you’ve got a compromised bullpen already that’s further compromised because they’ve thrown more innings than any other bullpen. The Jim Leling will say it all the time, the best way to have a good bullpen is keep them in the bullpen. Use them because you want to, not because you need to. They’ve needed to go to that bullpen so much. And it’s been such a problem for them. And yet they believe that they’re going to get back Copec and Granol and and Trinan’s back in and Scott’s back. They’re going to get them all back. They believe and it’s going to make them ready. The question is, will they be pitching in top form when they come back? But again, it is surprising. They went on for a World Series champion to go on a an unprecedented spending spree the way they did. I’m not saying that’s bad. It’s good. They are aggressive in with their bid for world dominance. That’s why it’s so stunning uh to see it not happening so far this morning. Padres’s in first place. I I’m not really surprised. Let’s be honest. The Padres should have beat the Dodgers last year and should have gone to the World Series. You know that. Yep. They choked down a three to one lead. they were better than the Dodgers and they’d choke. And this year, despite everything that went on, I still like the Padres’s and then they go out at the trade deadline and load up and have a tremendous bullpen and all kind stuff. This team is really good and if they don’t get to the World Series, something is wrong there in San Diego. Okay. Yeah, a lot of that has happened stance. But last year, you’re right. They stopped scoring. Had their opponents down. count was nine. Could not could not score a run for a long time. That’s bad. But they’re on top now. And you’re right, they sensed a little weakness, little lethargy in the Dodgers and they’re getting after him. So if Padres’s win makes it 8 to 10, coupled with the Dodgers lost. What do we have here? New leader in the West after the Dodgers reign supreme for 109 days. Last time they were in first place, April 28th. Padres’s went all in at the deadline. Sure, we focused on the arms, but what about a couple of other guys? Razor Raone Lauriana, you call him the bad guy. Zero. He’s had clutch hits. He’s had walk-off hits. He’s had big moments. How can he help this Padres’s team down the stretch? This is why this the the predictions on opening day drive me up a wall. Right. We thought I I think we were all thinking that the Dodgers were going to be the greatest team that’s ever been assembled. And this is why you go out and you play because right now, as we currently stand, the Padres’s got a oneame lead. They just picked up Ryan O’Harn and Raone Lauraniano at the deadline. He is sneaky. Last year with the Braves got really hot and no one paid attention to it. Then he goes into the off season. He signs a one-year deal, but it’s got an option on the back end of it for 6.5 million. So does not AJ Prowler doesn’t only get him right now. He gets him next year for 6.5 million. He’ll probably end up trading him at next year’s deadline. But that being there, people helping people. So, hey, he has been fantastic. And and I was sitting there last night and I texted Eric Naz. I said, I want to dive in on Raone Lauraniano because he’s gotten off to a hot start with the pods since he’s come over. 50 plate appearances. He’s hitting 333. His OPS is 1,000 and he’s been good for a while now. This is like a year and a half. So bring up the boards 2018 to 2019 when he was with with the Oakland A’s 288 345 on base a 508 slug. Then 2020 to 2024 a dip 231 the on base went down to 309 400 slug. He has narrowed his stance up. He has done some things a little bit differently at the plate. He has gotten going and he and he’s always been a force now. Right. 2025 296 a 362 on base and a 539 slug careerhigh 180 180 weighted runs created plus with San Diego. So let’s see what he’s done in a pod’s uniform early. He went deep yesterday but he’s shown the ability to spray it around. I mean right there against Kendall Graveman. Little back door two seamer where he shoots the other way. Pekco not looking to cheat to pull. knows he can go oppa with strength into right center. Here he is at Oracle against Robbie Ray shooting a little bullet down the line. Extra base hits and then Joey Lucesy on a 200 heater 92 doesn’t get all the way in and he quick snatches it and hits a homer. So I he’s been fantastic for them. So pause this real quick. Bring up the WRC plus board. I mean, you got Aaron Judge, Otani, Curts, Will Smith, the Schwarberers, Catel Marte, Raone Moriano’s on this board at 149. That’s a really good year. And what does he do? Well, let’s see. I want to dive into he’s hammering off speed. I want to dive into some of his his plate adjustments. So, let’s get back into it real quick. Pause this 2023. I mean, it’s minimal, but this, I’m telling you, minimal movements are huge kind of perception changers in the box. I was a guy that stood closed. That to me felt square. I felt in line and then I’d look down and go, why am I angled towards the right side of second base? That was my square. So, my my rhythm was up the middle the other way. If I was to stand like this, I feel like I’m wide open and and my front shoulder is in the third base dugout. So to me that would promote almost stepping in the bucket. So these minimal changes to the eye are maximum when you’re in the box. Here he is with the athletics open and then closed. Let me see the side by side [Music] going here on breaking stuff. [Applause] Yeah, we’re going to get into it. Bring up that board. Here we go. We got the stance, the batting stance, splits, depth in the box. He’s gotten deeper in the box. Distance off the plate. He’s gotten further away from the plate. Distance between feet, his feet, he’s narrowed up. He’s made monster changes in what he’s doing at the plate. Bring up the grid. Yeah. 2023 a little bit wider. You see how he’s gotten narrower in 2025. So making necessary adjustments and he’s hammering off speed. Get back into the tape and then we’ll end it with a little defense. Little change up in progressive. He shoots oppo. He’s just had a sneaky year. There was a lot of teams on him at the deadline. AJ scooped him up. Him and Ryan O’Harn from the Baltimore Orioles. And and I think people don’t realize playing the corner spots. Here he is. Slug leaders versus nonf fastballs. You got Buckton Otani, Raone Lauraniano’s third. Wow. 593 slug vers nonf fastballs. And then ended with some D. Absolute cannon arm in the corner. [Music] I’m still laughing at you saying enjoy San Diego for two months. I remember this throw. Yeah, it’s the best throw. We put that we had to put that in. made us like you’re putting this in no matter what might fight the entire Astros bench. I didn’t like that though. He went he tried to go low in that moment. Like if you’re going, you got to go. You saw him out of your peripherals. I don’t know. Sometimes that’s the move. I don’t know if he wanted to smoke right there. Most armed defensive run saved since 2018. There he is at the top. So Sneaky has done really well since the Braves last year. And again.

Ahh the Padres had / have injuries also
It wasn’t a 3-1 lead the padres blew…. How would you blow a 3-1 lead in a five game series? Idiots
DODGERS TOO MANY OLD CHIEFS*** PADS PERFECT MIX!!
One reason the Padres got Mason Miller is that he struck out Ohtani on 4 pitches in the All Star game. And sneaky great is Freddy Fermin, the Ferminator.
Is this the same Brian Kenny who one year ago said that the Padres need to rebuild?
As a Padres fan, Laureano has rapidy become one of my favorite players! He is so awesome, and he is also a humble man…
This reminds of 2021 when the braves got Eddie Rosario at the trade deadline with Lauriano As a dodgers fan. Padres might win this year.
Plus all teams will now lay- down for Padres to help them win NL West.
First thing i noticed about Laureano when he arrived on the Padres…
He swings a really long and big bat but as though it's a feather.
Get the watermark out from the screen
Brian is such an emotional little troll
Ohtani having another 4040 season! 40 strikeouts & 40 Homeruns!! Creating a league of his own! Never been done before!
Excuses.!!..
We’ll be in 2nd soon enough
The reason for the padres are so good is for the pitching coach Ruben niebla the bullpen and so many 0 run allowed
Eff that Brian Kenny dude
I'm tired of hearing about the Dodgers' injuries. Nobody can use that excuse anymore. The Angels swept them and don't have as good of a roster as the Dodgers have with their current roster. All teams have to deal with injuries. Dodgers fans better enjoy their team for now because soon they're going to have a lot of washed up players making a lot of money. I just hope the Padres don't screw this up. They better sweep the Dodgers the next couple weekends. The Angels helped them get first place, don't screw it up.
Laureano at the bottom of our order is HUGE, and Fermin been playing small ball peppering the ball into play, then we still got sheets and Ohearn to come in whenever
It is how you finished. What's the Dodgers' record against the Pads the last 5 years? Something always wrong in San Diego. Enjoy while it lasts.
The tables have turned we waited a long time San Diego is competing with the big dogs we got money too 💰
BEAT LA!
Dodgers 10-14 since All Star Break. Not much better than the Giants. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
2:05 the only logical opinion
I love how they make excuses for the Dodgers…Padres had 3 starting pitchers out most of the year.
