Minnesota Vikings Training Camp Notes: Patriots Joint Practice #2 – VIKES DOMINATE

[Music] Ah ah ah. So today was it right? Vikings Patriots joint practice number two. JJ McCarthy probably wasn’t going to play the next two preseason games. All the other practices, talk about practice, closed to the public. And today today was the Alamo. Today was Thermopoly. Today was Midway. Today was X-Men the last stand. I don’t know. Uh, today was it for JJ McCarthy. Last chance for romance. Last chance to shut up all the haters and the losers. And also the the biggest hater and loser was in attendance today. She shall not be named. It’s like Voldemort. Uh, and in front of the fans, sold out crowd. TCO Performance Center Bar and Grill. Packed to the gills. Uh, slightly overcast. Beautiful. Not hot. Not humid. But actually, it was hot. It was humid cuz JJ McCarthy and the Vikings absolutely unequivocally whoop the Patriots ass, right? And it’s not going to show up in the national media, right? Because yesterday it was all talk about the Lions kicked the the Dolphins ass blah blah blah blah blah. But this will be like what what is wrong with the Patriots? Is there concern in Foxboro? More. and LeBron talks about Little Wayne next or Lil Wayne talks about LeBron next. One of the two Cowboys segment up next. All right. Uh but McCarthy, the offense, the defense, Jonathan Gernard, they absolutely came out and destroyed. And one of the things I like to do during joint practices is follow the the other beat writers and get their honest assessment about how the Vikings are performing because you local beat writers sort of get used to, you know, their narratives and their style and it was good. So, Chad Raph, uh, beat writer for the Patriots, former beatriter for the Vikings, by the way. Uh, the Patriots final joint practice of the summer is over, and it was a buttkicking. Yes. Yes. Because you you most journalists try to call balls and strikes. Maybe shade it slightly slightly more positive. Now, we’re on a bash. Well, first off, we’re not a journalist, but we’re on a bash fullon homer. So, we’re up here on 11. But it says that zero is true level. Maybe some beats be like one or two. keep readership up, keep access with the team, keep good relationships uh with people that you want uh, you know, information from, all that stuff. But I love this. I love this. Minnesota was better in just about every drill. Patriots hit a hill Mary, but few highlights outside of that. Uh, defense got carved by who? By who? And offense was left to dink and dunk amid lots of pressure. Woo! Love to see that. Uh, Greg Baddard, uh, my stats for team periods, blah, blah, blah, drag my blah blah blah. Uh, 15 of 19, four touchdowns, two sacks, two scrambles, and the Vikings did a lot of red zone drill. Well, actually, both teams did a lot of red zone stuff today. So, it makes you feel good. Make me feel good. Also, Drake May, nine of 13, three touchdowns, five sacks. How many of those completions and touchdowns were after sacks? And I I know that McCarthy’s, you know, big big throw to Aaron Jones is after a sack. I think he would have gotten out of it. Not saying I’m just saying. All right. But, uh, takes from the practice that was like we said, Vikings just straight up whooped ass, right? It was one of those walk-off Grand Slam Grand Salami top or bottom of the 11th, one of the 11ths, right? And it makes you feel good. It leaves a a good taste in everyone’s mouth as we roll into the last couple games of preseason. It’s mainly going to be backups. Actually, it is going to be backups. final two games. It’s going to be and hands down this was JJ McCarthy’s best practice of camp like this was you initially some of the early drills is sort of what whatever Pat touchdown to the Thomas but that was about it but in the red zone 11 on 11s he just sliced and diced and remember he was doing all this without Justin Jefferson and without Christian Derosa who had the day off so he was doing this and remember the Patriots you numbers wise they weren’t great last year on defense but personnel-wise They’re solid. They’re rock solid. Like two years ago, they they had one of the better defenses in the National Football League, and they’re no slouches. All right, so this is not JJ McCarthy slicing up the little sisters of the poor, although that’s the way it’s going to be portrayed. All right, but fundamentals, progressions, uh he just picked the Patriots apart. Uh and McCarthy and Kevin McConnell talking to the media jackals afterwards, like Kevin McConnell just like looked like a proud dad. You know what I mean? All right. Uh, and KC even mentioned that JJ went 12 of 13 at one point. What was the one? Uh, but the connection with Addison continues to be unreal. And I feel like we’re almost doing Addison a disservice. You sort of ever talk about everyone else, but Addison honestly has one of the best camps of the last decade of Minnesota Vikings football. Certainly of the Kevin Oonnell era, which is great. Hawinson, he he mossed a dude seven on seven also. He he looked really in sync with McCarthy like the well the entire offense looked good and also like we said they’re doing this without Jefferson and Darasaw had the day off so Justin school was in there at left tackle one and you know the offense was sort of helter skelter yesterday actually the entire team was sort of hit or miss but everything today was hit hitting hitting hitting uh and Hawinson I I think he’s prime for a career bounceback season I I truly do I think that early 2023 Hawinson the dirty man back. The logo is back. I love it. Aaron Jones was a huge part of the passing game. And as we said, there there was a lot of crossers. There was a lot of running back involvement in the passing game and those last screens last couple days. Now, TBD, if that’s how this offense is going to be encompassed, but also it could be that they’re just working on specific things. So, take everything with a grain of salt. But Aaron Jones, who we’ve said is one of the better receiving runbacks in the game, look good, man. Let’s look good. hit uh McCarthy hit Jones on a huge pass play. Sure would have been a sack. Whatever there Thomas, it was his day to shine. Had impressive day over the middle. Uh Deshawn Jones uh brought in a nice one from Sam Howell who’s really settled down as well. Uh I guess the only downside was um uh was Lucky Jackson had drop. So whatever. Uh wide receivers it’s it’s been coming and going. Like yesterday it definitely came phrasing. Uh but wide receiver drops it get worked out. Uh one minute drill, not two-minute drill, one minute drill. Nine to three for the touchdown. Too easy. Addison was talking junk in the face of the marvelous Marcus Jones. It’s kind of fun to see him, right? And this this day definitely got a little bit chippier than others. There was two main dust ups. Uh school and Kavon Chason from the Patriots, former LSU star. They got into it. McCarthy got himself in the middle one. Vable guy in the middle of the other. I feel like that’s good to try and be varable stick. Hey guys, no fighting, but if there’s a fight, let me in. I need to I need to get in there. Also, you know, the Brazim Jones connection is solid again. Uh, so this week, Brazmer has hit Tim Jones like seven times, like twice on deep touchdowns. One in one in practice on Monday, one in joint practice yesterday. There could be something there. Notably of Bromer, right? And Tim Jones, career backup, special teams guy. Maybe he works his way in. Yeah. Uh the defense completely buckled down from yesterday. Jaylen Redmond shined. Yeah, he got got a big time shout out from Jonathan Grard as well. Jay Red 6-1 getting it done. I love to see that. Uh Grard just absolutely dominated rookie left tackle Will Campbell. And that’s a match up we said we were looking forward to. And Campbell was inside his own head. Like the knock against Campbell coming at LSU is that he didn’t have long enough arms and Granard definitely outlength him today, right? And you know with an edge like Gernard, you have to be able to get your hands on him. Didn’t happen. It didn’t happen. Three sacks and 11 reps by by uh I think it was uh by Chad Graph’s count. And also uh Campbell had a pair of false starts. So he was Grard was already way in his head. All right. So that’s beautiful. Uh Allan Turner had sacks. Turners was in two-minute drill as well. Really gave the veteran Morgan Moses the business. Uh Blackman, so this might have been like third down. Well, obviously it wasn’t fourth down, but third down in like a red zone drill. Uh Mai Blackman had a nice PBU, but it would have been like a really easy interception. And initially I was like, “Oh, it was fourth down.” But I guess it wasn’t because the Patriots had the ball and then they scored the very next play. So bit of a good play, but bit of a brain fart. Yeah. Daras, like we said, had the day off school in a left tackle one. Uh, injuries wise, uh, Matelis, uh, banged up his shoulder in Hail Mary towards the end of practice. Uh, he came over to the media scrum after practice, said that he was fine. I mean, uh, he’ll he’ll be good to go. Like, he obviously wasn’t going to play the last two preseason games, get ready for week one, getting it done. Was that three and a half weeks, something like that. Uh, Naylor, uh, they also mentioned he had a hand injury, but probably probably hurt his hand dropping the ball. So, I don’t know. I don’t know, man. But like we said, uh, dog days of training camp. Training camp is over. No more fans at TCO, right? But this was definitely one which was great. I mean, the crowd was loud and proud. Everyone was fired up to be there. And I think we got ourselves a freaking quarterback. But enough about Max Bromer. I think Jay McCarthy, that kid, might be all right, too. It’s going to be good. Anyways, that’s it. That’s Vikings Patriots joint practice number two. Vikings going to whip somebody’s ass. It was good. Also, obviously it’s preseason game. I want the twos and threes to completely destroy and dismantle the Patriots. Like I understand it’s preseason, but can we get like a 387 38 41 donut type preseason game? Just just just nice. Feel nice. Anyways, your thoughts or thoughts? Let us know. Comment section. You guys are the best you have to do. Skull production value. Hey. Hey.
