We knew him before he was that level of Sports famous. uh one of the most recognized and decorated athletes in wheelchair rugby history, a four-time parolympic medalist and a four-time sufferer of watching the Vikings lose in the NFC Championship game. Chuck Aoki solidarity. What’s up, guys? How are we doing this this fine August day after a wonderful day from JJ McCarthy? I was going to say, how could you not be doing great? JJ McCarthy just had the day to remember when when he goes into Canton. I’m saying this that day, August 14th, 2025, correct? Will be it will be invoked as this was the day that JJ McCarthy began to build the bust. We we we’ll remember it forever and we’ll remember forever even if it doesn’t he doesn’t go to Canton. But I don’t see how I don’t see how it could end anywhere else besides that at this point. I don’t think that’s an overreaction. I mean, I decided after the ninth consecutive completion that Canton was the destination. Then he rattles off up to 12 straight completions yesterday. Where do you go beyond Canton even? That’s the question at this point, you know, like we’re just he’s Yeah, he’s going to be so good. They’re going to have to create something beyond Canton to to hold J. What I love about Chuck is so I I texted him about uh just like, hey, we’ll send you a link in the morning or maybe it was earlier in the week. You mentioned I love how online you are as a Vikings fan. A the fact that you’re following Jud’s like joint practice notes and the other beat writers is awesome. And Chuck said, “Life is good in the JJ McCarthy era, no matter what Colin Cowardd says.” So you are very much an online Vikings fan. Oh, always. You got to be logged in at all times because I mean, you know, this is that like I love baseball. I love all the you know, all our pro sports, but you know, this is kind of that time where there’s not as much happening. So it’s like you got to be locked in. But you know, I’m sure your listeners and you guys are the same way. We we haven’t had a JJ McCarthy type player just in terms of like coming in resetting a franchise. The the possibilities genuinely seem endless. I mean, the last time we had this was what Dante probably like really really this much excitement. Like I I don’t know what your guys’ status on the Christian Ponder name is on the show, but you know, it’s like that didn’t have the same buzz as as this does, you know, and I really to me it’s like in my lifetime Dante’s the last time was like, “Okay, let’s get hyped.” And JJ just has that that vibe about it. I don’t I I don’t know. It’s all vibes. I think his some of it’s his personality, wouldn’t you guys say? I mean, Jud, you’ve been out there for every practice and I’ve been out there for like six or seven of them. But even so, day one of and by the way, we’ll get to feedback Friday. There’s a there’s a bunch of JJ McCarthy stuff here, so we’ll we’ll get into it shortly. But even like day one of joint practice where he wasn’t really he lit it up on day two. Day one, there were some highlights, but it was also kind of a slog at times. And uh after a couple bet there was one where he threw an interception in seven on sevens. He he sailed a pass and and even like during kind of the dull down moments where he’s struggling, he’s over there on the sidelines just like going up and down dapping up all the receivers. And obviously in the future if he’s not a good quarterback, it’ll be looked at as kind of corny like Tim Tibo. It’s like, “All right, dude. We get it. You’re a leader. Can you complete a pass, please?” Um, but it is it’s it’s just his leadership and personality, I think, only pushes the hype train further down the tracks. Jud, and when’s the last time that the Vikings had a coach, especially a head coach, who ties into a quarterback like this? I mean, Denny was a pretty good offensive mind. I don’t know that he was nearly as personable as as Kevin is. And look, Dante did initially get some really good guidance, but you know, at the end of the day, Christian Ponder was a failure, but he also got no help. Like, there was no one here to help him. Less was a great guy. Frasier is one of the nicest guys I’ve covered, but look at the infrastructure then, too. So, like, if you just brought McCarthy here and said, “Okay, Zim’s your coach. Go get him, kid.” I think we’d be like excited. Oh my god. I would actually love I if if we could carve out just like last year like wouldn’t it be kind of fun to see what Sam Darnold would look like and then we actually got to see that? Wouldn’t Wouldn’t Wouldn’t Wouldn’t Wouldn’t it be fun to go into an alternate football universe? And you like you don’t have to be stuck there. I’m just saying like we could just take a peek and then come back to reality. It’s like the It’s like the Hallmark movie where the crotchy kid the crotchy old man has to adopt like the the random kid and like it turns out oh he really does love Christmas, you know? That’s what it would be like. That’s Yeah. like Mike Zimmer and JJ McCarthy Hallmark special. Love to see that. Uh feedback Friday here. People sending in comments through the YouTube comment section and through the feedback tab and the Scorn North app. Also, uh thank you. We’ve had over a thousand new subscribers this month to the Purple Daily YouTube channel. So, thank you guys. We’re almost to 60,000. So, if you haven’t or maybe you’re new, you’re just discovering Jud’s Campotes for the first time, that missing piece in your life, uh click that like button and the subscribe button on the Purple Daily YouTube channel. Welcome into the community. Uh Lacy Haw chimes in and says, “Good morning, Purple Daily family. Please help me out with something. It seems to me that Kevin Oonnell and Brian Flores had a deliberate and possibly genius plan to make life hell for JJ McCarthy in training camp. Not only to see how he responded, but to help knock the rust off faster and speed up the learning curve. Holding Jefferson out longer than maybe necessary was maybe part of that plan. Uh, I believe JJ will hit the ground running because of it. Can you gentlemen, please let me know what you think of this thought, this conspiracy theory from Lacy Haw. Brian Flores has done this to every quarterback the Vikings have employed since he got got here in 2023, starting with Kirk. So, I don’t think it was a deliberate Okonnell plan. I think it was I mean, Brian Flores lives to make your life suck if you play QB. So, yes, it was a deliberate plan on his part. I mean, Kirk Cousins, the good thing about JJ McCarthy is he really has not complained about it. Like, he said it’s a blessing to get to go against it. I mean, go back to Kirk and Kirk that that was not BS on Kirk’s part. Kirk was like, “This sucks. I can’t get ready for the season. You’re showing me looks I’m never going to see. I don’t want to see those looks.” Um, so Brian Flores, like if this works out as as that note just said, yeah, give credit to Brian Flores. There is no way that Okonnell’s like, “Let’s drag JJ down.” In fact, I actually think that they did some substantial game planning for the joint practice on Thursday to get JJ’s confidence up a a bit. And it worked out. He looked great. But yeah, I don’t think Okonnell is like in on, “Hey, Brian, be tougher than usual.” usual is very tough. I actually I think I disagree with you on this. I think I I think this is a cliche, but iron sharpens iron. And if you were to and we kind of had this discussion like should you back off a little on the kid and just let him face some more plain looks? Well, what what good does that do him if you’re just if you’re giving him sort of let’s all right, let’s dumb things down so that he can have a good practice. Does that make him better in you know whatever week five against Mike Tomlin Steelers defense and TJ Watt? So I don’t know if it was a deliberate I don’t know if it’s verbatim the way that this emailer that’s a genius deliberate plan but do I think it was decided don’t back off because this if you don’t back off he might swim in it. It might be drinking out of a fire hose, but it will make him better in 3 weeks, in four weeks when you actually start to game plan for not as good defenses as the ones he’s facing in practice. I have zero evidence that Brian Flores has ever listened to Okonnell about about this like I have zero evidence. But you don’t but right but then you so Okonnell couldn’t control it. But Okonnell but okay. But then but then Okonnell is by not telling Buffalo to rain it in. That is part of the plan, right? I’m not going to tell him to rain it in because I want I want I want it to be really hard for JJ in practice. But I mean, this is how this guy this is how Flores runs. His goal is to make you def uh his goal is to make his defense as good as possible and he doesn’t care about what the offense does. Now, it’s it’s to a certain degree, of course, it’s all scripted and stuff, but yeah. And but I’m not going to complain about it cuz yes, I think it ultimately helps as long as the kid wants to learn, which McCarthy clearly does. Like to me that’s the most important thing. I don’t think McCarthy’s demeanor is an act. I think he sincerely wants I I think he’s positive which is great. I think he wants to learn and I think he wants to be challenged. Like if you look at his football trajectory, I mean you go to IMG and play. Okay, at that age that’s as tough probably as competition as you can get. Then you go to Michigan and play for Jim Harbaugh. And we could talk about, well, he didn’t throw enough or whatever, but that is an elite style program. So, so in my opinion, McCarthy has never been handed like, oh, I’m going to go beat up on these teams. He’s always had this. So, yes, I agree. It helps. Do I think that Okonnell said, hey, Brian, make his life real tough? No. I think Brian said, “I’m going to make his life tough.” And Okonnell’s probably like, “Nothing I can do about it.” Yeah. Yeah. Chuck, I mean, Chuck, you spend your life around high level athletes, so what’s your what’s your read on this and JJ McCarthy and the coaches, you know, I I think that I this is such a fence sitting answer. You’re both right a little bit. You know, I think the reality is that what Jud said is right. I don’t think or what you said is right. There’s no way that if Okonnell went to Florida said, “Hey, we’re going to tone it down a little today.” He’s looked what what did you bring me here for? You know, what’s the point of doing that? Right? I think what it is is it’s a really nice side benefit of of of the of the fact you have a really good defense is that it gives your young quarterback the chance to get after this to go for it. And I think it the fact that they did this really in some ways speaks to their belief in JJ and his mental capacity. You know, I think Judge, you said it right, and it’s not a shot at Kirk, but Kurt was like, “God, what’s happening? This is this is crazy. I’m flustered by this.” JJ’s like, “All right, whatever. Keep it going. Let’s keep it going. Let’s keep it running.” You know? So, I think it speaks to their belief in him that it’s like he’s going to get out there. We we have we have faith in this kid. He’s going to do this. You know, he he can he can handle this. And to Phil’s point, you know, you get out there week five, it’s like what good would have done? It’s like, well, we had Brian back off a little bit. It’s like, well, that doesn’t help at all. The other aspect to that that feedback thought that I I don’t think is true is I think Jefferson legitimately had something and they said, “Look, you’re the best receiver in the NFL. We don’t need you to we don’t need you to push it at all during this trip.” I I think the reality is that his health is too important and you know he’s he’s not injuryp pro but he’s had some things over the last couple years so in my especially it’s a hamstring right those are notoriously fickle as I understand it um and so I think that was a case of you’re shut down I I don’t think there’s anything to that does it help that he’s building great chemistry with Addison Hawinson Oliver Naylor Thomas Lucky Jackson etc sure but I think that’s a case of we’re not going to risk get the slightest with um with with JJ or Jetta. Jets, sorry. Jets. Jets. Put some respect on his nickname. Sorry. Sorry. You know, Uncle Martin, shout out Uncle Martin in Florida. He would just throw my siblings into the pool and figure out how to swim. That was like his first thing. There was no there was no there was no water. There was no uh floaties. And Uncle Martin’s in jail now. And Uncle Martin, we don’t know what manslaughter. Yeah. That’s called man one. I have a point here is I was the only one who was against that cuz I was not good in the water and I and I took my time be becoming uh getting good in the water with swim lessons. Guess who’s the worst swimmer of the four people? Me. So so so Brian Flores is a lot like my crazy uncle Martin. He’s just throwing the kid in the water. Figures it out. He’s not going to let them drown necessarily, but it’s sink or swim. Literally natural selection. Uncle Martin, you didn’t really say he saved you. So I I assume that he was doing 15 to 25 somewhere. 15 if good behavior. Uncle Martin, you’re the best. I love when we get glimpses into into Declan’s wiring. That’s that’s a big piece right there. Um Sean Eaton chimes in. Says, “Here’s a hypothetical question for Jud. If you were told that you were going to watch the practice of an NFL quarterback and you didn’t know who it was, so you it’s just like a shadow figure at quarterback. You don’t know if they’re 40 or 22. If it’s just anonymous and you watched Thursday’s joint practice, where would you rank the anonymous quarterback wearing number nine in purple among all NFL starters based on what you saw yesterday? Wow. Oh my god, that’s a loaded loaded question. So, I don’t know anything about this person. It’s basically just like a blurred out figure and you just see the ball out of his hand. Have you have you seen those? Have you seen those videos they do like guess the player and it’s they’re all blacked out? That concept I think. Yeah. It’s like it’s like and you watch like I should know this. It’s an NBA game and you know and you see a fadeaway jumper. Oh well. I mean if I just saw that with no context beyond that I would say it’s a top 10 quarterback. I mean he it’s a top 10 quarterback. What what else am I going to say? I what 12 straight completions at one point, four touchdowns. If I’m not mistaken, Jud’s camp notes documented him as 17 of 20 in team drills with six touchdowns. Yeah, it’s a top 10 quarterback. Wow. To that question, the answer to that question. Wow, dude. I mean, he did he Now, if you were to ask that question again about like the first day of joint practice, it’s there’s probably not quite the same answer. Go back. It it’s now there’s a cut there’s of course and it’s actually fun to watch on Twitter. There’s a bunch of the 11 on1 joint practice highlights. Find the air find the JJ McCarthy pass to Aaron Jones along the right sideline and just watch that play. Is it the Is it the screen pass that Donovan Jackson trucked everyone? No, this is yesterday. That’s Wednesday. No, it’s a deep shot. It’s a deep shot down the right sideline. And if I’m not mistaken, Aaron Jones is pretty much doubled, but JJ drops it in. Aaron Jones makes a very nice catch and scores. Yeah, it’s a really impressive play. And and in fact, McCarthy was asked postpractice, did you have of your 17 completions, did you have a favorite one? And he gave it a lot of thought and said that one, Aaron Jones. And and he’s also talked about what he could have done better with the pass, but he’s like that was that was a really nice play. The one that I referenced also to Aaron Jones, it was a screen pass and and we saw it live and it was hilarious watching first round pick rookie left guard Donovan Jackson. This this nimble dancing bear, 6’6, 320 lbs just running up the field. And JJ McCarthy was asked about that play at the podium yesterday. Jud, you probably heard his answer verbatim. and he said, “Yeah, we uh we Michigan guys tend to be skeptical about the actual talent and motiv like I don’t know how he phrased it, but of those Ohio State guys, but he proved on that play that he’s going to be a pretty damn good player.” And he I’ve seen the video now a few times. I’m hoping to make Jeremiah and Alex review that one on O line committee this week because he literally truck he he sprinted up the field and trucked two different it was exactly what this team has needed on screen plays. It’s not just about like can the running back this or the quarterback. Sometimes it’s can those offensive linemen get out there in space get out in front of it and clear the path. And that was a very hopeful sign from day one of joint practice. It it was a reminder of how NFL players are just different than us. This is like what is what’s diamond just six5 280 and he is flying down the field. I think he’s 66 like 315 or something. Oh, he’s a mammoth man. But he’s athletic as hell. Super sprinting just like swatting flies down the field. Was he took it was one it was a backhand to one of the defensive backs. But his speed like what how fast was an I mean compared to a really fast guy it’s not but for his size how fast was he going like he was trucking down the field like he literally steamrololled the guy because his momentum it was impressive. Yeah. Uh let’s see here. Ivan Wilson says really looking forward to the season. I expect over 10 wins barring any injuries. I’ve not looked at any betting sites, but uh if I put McCarthy’s over under on interceptions at 13, would you take the over or the under on 13 picks for McCarthy? I take the over. I think I’d take the over. Hopefully not too far over cuz if you start to get into the 17 range, you better be throwing 40 touchdowns. But that’s a rookie thing or that that’s a first year thing, right? And a KOC offense thing. They’re going to throw the ball volume. You know, you can you can bump that up by a couple by Nate by virtue of that. Did Kirk throw 14 his first year in KOC’s offense? Not because he was terrible, but because he threw the ball a lot and was and hey, take that chance. Mhm. On third down. Yeah. So, yeah. Kirk threw 14 his first year in the system. And then what did Darnold have last year? He probably had 14 or 15 picks, too, didn’t he? He had the one game with like four. There was the Was the Jaguars game, right? The Jackson halfway there in one game pretty much. He had Yeah, he had 12 on the season. So, there you go. It would if if you play all 17 games and you throw the ball 550 times or even 500 times somewhere in there. I I probably take the under just I do think they’re going to run the ball a little bit more. I’ll say I’ll say 12. Slight under on that. Uh James Richardson says, I don’t want to ask this because I don’t want it to be true, but is there a world in five years from now where JJ McCarthy is Trey Lance and Max Bromer is Brock Pury? Um, no. Okay. Okay. Let me say this. No. On No. On the first one because keep in mind, too. So, in fairness to this entire Tre Lance discussion, look at his college resume. He basically didn’t play. I mean, JJ McCarthy played at Michigan. Okay. Tre Lance in the COVID year, they played one game as a Tre Lance showcase. So, there’s FCS, by the way. like he barely played FCS. No comparison. But let me get to the second part. Absolutely. Max Bromer can be Brock Pury. Wow. Wow. Oh my god. I told you I’m a fan. So I mean purple gold maroon gold combo Kool-Aid just being passed around. Max Bro, Max Bromer, if you told me right now, you know what, he’s going to start for a team in like a year or two, I would not be surprised. Yeah. Wow. Is is it the demeanor of Bromer? Is it the tal like what is it about him so much that is just getting I I’ve heard of I’ve heard he’s got he’s got more arm talent than I thought and the demeanor is awesome and the hyperculture and well his ability to process like if you want when he gets the ball out when that guy gets the ball out you guys it is it’s NFL I know what I’m doing. Yeah it’s I think he’s obsessed. He is, dude. He was I mean, a lot of players stay after and put in the work, especially if you’re a fringe roster guy and you’re not getting the reps at joint practice that the top quarterbacks are. But while everybody else was hanging out with they’re either in the locker room or hanging out with their families, you look over at the far side field off to the right and it was Max Bromer alone with one of the wide receivers just getting those extra reps in two and a half hours after joint practice started. not talking to his gal, Chuck. Probably broke up. I you know, well, you might have to break up if you want it. Do you want it? I’m not going to lie, that gives me a little bit of chills to hear that. Like, we talk about that with elite performance all the time. Like, did obsess obsessed is a bad word in some ways, but in this type of thing, obsessed is almost always a good thing. I Wow. Let’s just say people get down on the sports dad when he talks about the lifestyle that it takes to to be a champion. And who knows more than I do about being a champion, Chuck. Um, in all seriousness, listen, Purple Daily was uh named, we didn’t talk about this, last week, a Maronei finalist for, I think, the third time. So, you might be a champion if we win the prestigious I’m obsessed. I’m obsessed with the show. I I wouldn’t go out there with that notebook. Um, so one thing that was to to go back to McCarthy for a second, but off of the obsession thing, somebody asked McCarthy about like his preparation yesterday and it it was sort of a off-the- cuff question. It didn’t really fit in, but he gave a really intriguing response. He said that one of the things Tom Brady gave him was like how to prepare, how to prepare for a game and like what what the steps are. And and I mean we we see now more and more as he does podcasts and stuff that Brady is a complete football psycho or was. And so McCarthy said he basically gave me a a template for how to prepare. And of course the followup was oh cool what was it? And like he’s like I don’t want to give it away but he did say and I I mean it sounds simple but Chuck for you it’s going to make perfect sense as an athlete. He’s like, one of the things he said that Brady said to McCarthy is, “If I could go back in time, I would hydrate so much more.” He’s like, “I cost myself by not hydrating.” Really, but it doesn’t sound like that big a deal, but like what intrigued me was it seems like such a small thing and I’m hydrating right now with coffee in my Roku mug. Um what the obsession though the obsession with the hydration and things like that like those are small things and we might laugh at him but it’s like shows you the commitment and like the realization of mistakes that you made that make you such a freak but a successful one sometimes. Tom was also he was on some podcast this week. Can’t remember which one but he was talking about some of his psycho preparation. It was great. Yeah. And it was it’s it is worth I saw a couple clips. I’m excited to go watch the whole thing. But he’s l he’s like ranting as if he’s still in the league. He’s super passionate. He’s like he goes whatever like what basically whatever level of preparation you think was enough for that week. What else have you done to make the team better? He goes is your defense you can’t if you’re one of the he’s kind of ripping Joe Burrow. It sounded like he was like it’s not good enough if you’re if you’ve got your offense buttoned up and you’re scoring 34 points a game but your defense gives up 40. That’s also on you. what are you doing on Saturday to take a look at the defensive plan to throw them something that they could make them better or whatnot? And it was like, wow. For all you for all you crusaders out there for years who said, well, what’s he supposed to do? It’s the def Tom Brady is helping the defense during the week. Okay. Where where is that hologram version of Tom on the Fox pregame show that I can’t stand? That’s that’s what I want. Okay. I don’t need to see Kurt Meny and everyone else stumble. Jimmy Johnson and Terry Bradshaw. Jimmy’s gone now. Don’t worry about stumble. Stumble through. That was a a passing rushing touchdown there by the Buccaneers. And we go over to the Panthers. Where where is that version of Tom? I want that hologram Tom on the pregame show. And I’m locked in. I am locked in. If that’s the case, I think if Yeah. Give Tom should be in that setting more than he should be like 20 second soundbite guy during a game. Yeah. I want Tom in any setting broadcasting wise now though to use that mentality to attack players to say you know what that was a terrible pass and here’s why he didn’t do X Y and Z. Give me your psychotic mentality. I will watch you and I will love it. Right. That and that’s what that’s what Tom Brady’s there for. He’s Tom freaking Brady. Like I just I I I get he want he’s starting to slow. He doesn’t want to come off too strong. But it’s like dude you’re like the man. be the man. Yeah, don’t worry about and he’s not he’s not gonna get he’s not looking for a head coaching job. It’s Yeah, 100%. Uh, one more JJ related thing and then we’ll get to a bunch of other stuff here. Feedback Friday. If if JJ McCarthy is the next Party, Brock Perie, which was a conversation this week, Kyle Herurd and company, uh, then let’s trade JJ McCarthy now and start over because Brock Purie is not a differencemaker. He’s a good quarterback, but can only get you so far. Um, yada yada yada. All right, we had this discussion on Mackey and Jud last week about how quarterback takes and evaluations have long since jumped the shark. If you’re weaponizing Brock Perie, as an example for why someone isn’t good enough or qualified enough as a quarterback, now contextwise, Brock Party on a rookie scale contract where you can build a team is different than Brock Party at $55 million or $53 million. We’ll see what that version of Brock Party looks like. But Brock Perie is not a differencemaker. The 49ers had a three-point lead in overtime of the Super Bowl. Is that a place where Vikings fans would like to be at some point? And then we’ll see how the Chips fall after they have that three-point lead in over I think we know how that ends. Um, but if if I asked you, would you rather have Joe Burrow at $55 million so you can watch a difference maker miss the playoffs and I love Joe Burrow or Brock Pury or if JJ McCarthy becomes Brock Pury on a rookie scale contract and room to build a roster? I mean, the 49ers went really far with a good serviceable top 15 quarterback on a rookie scale deal. So, I’m just I’m not here for the Brock Party. I don’t love Brock Perie, but like we’ve gone too far. Oh, he’s Brock Pury. That’s a compliment. That’s a good thing, right? He’s a Super Bowl starting quarterback. Like that that is what you that’s what we all want as I understand it. It would be it would be nice. That’s what I’ that’s that’s I I heard was the goal. And then you have to make a tough decision at some point of all right, how much do we like Brock Birdie? Enough to say goodbye to a bunch of good players and have him lead it. And maybe maybe after three or four years of learning and getting better, maybe he does step into that next level. I missed that though. Coward has now moved on from JJ’s not going to work to he’s now Brock Pery. I miss I miss that. So things are changing. That’s a great segue. Things are changing rapidly as as our friend uh Thor Nestrom has pointed out now. Greg Kosell, who who as Thor said was the patient zero of McCarthy sucks. Now he’s saying his arm is fine. He like does this well and he does that well. And so there’s a clip that’s on Twitter where Greg Coell has totally changed his tune. And I think Diana Rousidi who who was here and God bless him, Kevin Oonnell went on her Scoop City podcast. I’m not quite sure why after the trouble she caused him, but he did. And I think Diana, who was there for the practice yesterday, how how funny is that? I think she’s changed her tune. So, we got a lot of people who have been all in on this guy ain’t going to work or this guy, you know, shouldn’t have gotten the job. It should have been Aaron Rogers. We are now pivoting in a very hard way. And it’s multiple people. It’s really really You’d think if you took it this far, you just should see it through. Yeah. But also like you don’t need to I don’t know. I mean listen Thor’s been on a a crazy limb for a year and a half and I I think I think he’s I think he’s going to make it. I really do. Uh it’s one of the most early and aggressive takes in the history of draft evaluators. And I hope that it’s like Indiana Jones in the last crusade walking across the invisible bridge. Like um I I hope it works out for him. But we also, let’s we’re 3 weeks, four weeks away from an actual game. So, we could just kind of cool the the JJ McCarthy aggressive takes, continue to soak in some practices, and then see what actually happens on Monday Night Football going forward, too, which I’m already at that point. So, it’s a very thoughtful take of yours, Phil. Very level-headed, I guess. Um, before we get to some more feedback Friday here, so for those of you that are just jumping into this live stream, we appreciate you. Uh, we’re live every Friday on Purple Daily at around 10:00 a.m. Central time. Uh, and you’re wondering who’s the who’s the fourth member of the show today. That’s our guy Chuck Aoki. He’s one of the most recognized and he’s one of the best wheelchair rugby players in the world. Um, I know you’re a modest guy, but you are a four-time parolympic medalist and a huge Vikings and Minnesota sports fan. You went to the University of Minnesota, too, right? Back in the day. I did. Yeah. I got a master’s degree from there. I actually, funny enough, I actually live just outside of Ann Arbor now, so I get the J I’ve been on JJ train for a while. I didn’t plant my flag early enough though. That was my Do they generally like I was going to ask you about that cuz you are in Michigan. Like, do they generally love him or what what is the the feeling about him there? He Yeah. you know, he was huge there for for a while there. But, you know, they’ve it’s Michigan is so interesting being a a like a college college town because obviously we love the Gophers and everything in Minneapolis, but Ann Arbor is like a college town. You like the university and so there’s always a lot of affection. They love him, but you know, now it’s like it it’s not it’s what have you done for me lately? But that’s like to the team, right? Not necessarily the player. Like they’ll always love JJ, but now it’s like, hey, we got Last year is it’s okay. We beat Ohio State, so we’re all good there. But um but now it’s all about Underwood. It’s gonna be they’re feeling pretty good. Feeling pretty good. Although dude, that conference is wild right now with Oregon in the mix. Penn State’s the number one ranked team in the conference right now. I think they’re number two in the country. Um I do want to remind people that there is there’s just over an hour left in our week-long Power of Sports auction to raise money for the Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute. All of the buy it now items are gone, but there’s still a bunch of things up for bid and you and you could I you can cat and mouse your way. I’d get that bid in now just to make sure that you’re sitting on it. If you’re looking for the dinner with Purple Daily experience with a Justin Jefferson autograph, Harrison Smith, the uh the Pepsi Cares signed memorabilia package, Jefferson autograph, Jared Allen autograph. Uh there’s all sorts of things here still up for auction, up for bid over the next hour and change. And here’s one things from the the Purple Daily Marketing Closet. That’s at $100 right now. Let’s get that one on the board here. You get exclusive items and gear from the Purple Daily Marketing Closet, a $100 gift card from to Grandle Crearyy. You get two Purple Daily Koozies, two old school Mackie and Jud Radio Koozies. Those are like vintage items. Yeah. Purple daily mini Juds flags, purple daily hat, cell phone wallets, uh, purple daily golf ball markers. That’s up for bid right now. scorn.com/bid. And Chuck, for for the audience that isn’t familiar with the work that Couragekenny has done over the years. How would you explain it to a stranger here? Yeah. So, Courage Kenny, you know, is based in Golden Valley, so just outside of Minneapolis. And they’re they’re truly a one-of-a-kind organization in the area. And that they get people with physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities involved in all kinds of adaptive sports. It’s it’s actually where I grew up playing wheelchair basketball. It’s kind of where my my journey started uh out there. And so, they do basketball, they do tennis, they do rock climbing, they do swimming, they do scuba, they do soft wheelchair softball, they do wheelchair rug, they do everything, right? It’s really just it’s and they what’s amazing is it’s the kind of place that you just have to show up and they say, “What do you want to do?” And you say, “I think I want to do this.” They say, “Okay, let’s find a way to do it.” You know, they’ve got some amazing amazing people out there. Like I said, I wouldn’t be where I am in my athletic journey without them. And there’s countless other athletes from from Minnesota who are now all over the world uh contributing. And so, love it, man. Oh, I think we may have lost. We may have There we go. We got you back. We lost three seconds. We lost you for three seconds. We caught we caught all of it. But just to wrap it, Kou Caddy, an amazing place. Every dollar that we raise for them is going to go to buying equipment, uh getting people travel costs. And I think the last thing I want to mention on is that, you know, you think about playing sports, you know, with your kids, right? Or your your your nieces or nephews or whatever. It’s like, oh, buy a pair of shoes, buy them some shorts, whatever. To play adapted sports, you need specialized wheelchairs that cost like thousands of like literally thousands of dollars. And what Courage Kenny has is they’ve got a closet just full of equipment that is free to use. People can come try it um before you have to make that investment yourself. And so it’s really it’s it’s it’s a it’s an amazing organization. It’s one of those things where people you know some like I’m giving this money is it going this is this place is the absolute best place you could possibly imagine your money to go to. And I’m just it’s so cool. We’ve been like I said Phil referenced at the beginning we’ve been doing this for a long time now. We’ve raised a lot of money and really helped a lot of people just be active, you know, which is so important. I think I think the first time that we all hung out was probably like 2012 or 2013. 13 or 14. Yeah, I think so. Yeah. And Yeah. And to see you, man, like you now have four parolympic medals and it is pretty. It’s, by the way, if you have, if you don’t follow Chuck on Instagram, too, Chuck Aayoki on Instagram, uh, you you do an awesome job just putting out relatable content, but also explaining this is what it’s like to live life in a wheelchair and so people aren’t following you there, but like NBC and the Olympics and the Parolympics have made you sort of front and center as one of their ambassadors the last few years. So, it’s cool from our side, too, to just see your success and and uh and where you’ve been the last 5, 10 years. Well, I app well that’s awesome. I appreciate that guys. You know it’s exciting time to be thinking about this too because as you know obviously we’re talking purple daily but three years we’ve got the Olympics and paralympics coming back to the United States for the first time since like well only Judge remembers the last time I was here probably. So 84 yeah no 96 96 I thought you were talking about LA yeah but it’s been a long long time so obviously we’re we’re purple minded right now but red and blue is going to come into vogue pretty soon here I think. Absolutely. Baseball’s back, right? I I think we’re going to bring baseball back as an Olympic sport because it’s in the country. They added a bunch. Lacrosse is in. It’s pretty wild. Oh, let’s go. Pretty soon, flag football is going to be in the mix. And flag is going to be in. Flag is going to suffer an injury and I was going to say, yeah, somebody highprofile is going to play, get hurt, and miss a season, and I’m going to rage. Um, we’re going to get some more feedback Friday and a snake draft of the week here. Uh, Dex, I can tell you two men in a truck is going to be helping out the Mackis today. Very exciting day. I’m not sure if it’s uh my guys Arty and David who helped make my move happened. If it is Arty and David, tell them I said hello and that they uh they made my move uh nice and safe and they had everything packed up. You’re going to love it. In fact, next week I’ll just let Phil Mackey do the read because uh because that’s what Two Men in a Truck do. They they make the life easy for you. You don’t got to worry about finding your friends, finding your parents, finding who has a truck. They have the trucks. They will make the life easier for you. So, go to Two in a Truck. No hidden fees, no weird service charges. You just fill out your spreadsheet to say, “What do I need moved out of my house?” They’re going to make it happen for you. Tell them that Purple Daily sent you. Go to twomeninatr.com to find a location near you. Uh, also, Feedback Friday is presented by the Minnesota Renaissance Festival every single week here these next several weeks. So, starting tomorrow and every weekend through September 28th, 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., the Minnesota Renaissance Festival is open for you and your friends and family to enjoy 16 stages of entertainment, street acts, music, full armor jousting. So, Jud has agreed to do that on Sunday all day at the Renaissance Festival. We’re really looking forward to that. Sweet. Except no armor for Jud. He’s just going to be up there in his little Pondre t-shirt. Hello. Oh god. A there’s over 50 games, rides, and attractions. You can throw axes, shoot a crossbow, climb a rock wall, and do all sorts of other things that uh that sound like a blast, but I’m also a little hesitant on some of those. Uh so go have a great time at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival and uh check out the uh the schedule of entertainment and food and other logistics at renaissancefest.com. That’s renaissancefest.com. Okay, back to Feedback Friday here. Let’s go to let’s go to this one here. Bart Trench says to me, “Hey, Phil, I just finished listening to the Campnotes episodes from the Patriot joint practices. I know the focus was mostly on the offense, but I was hoping to get some Garrett Bradberry slander about when he was getting blown up by the Vikings defense or whether he was or not. Can you circle back and provide an update on how Garrett Bradbury looked in a Patriots uniform before you put a pin in the joint practices? So, he definitely got blown up at least twice that I saw by Jayvon Hargrave. I think once was in the two-minute drill and then there was another one that was just in the full team session on the the side practice field there. But yeah, it was there was there’s a video of one of them where Jayvon Hargrave lowman wins in the National Football League and Javvon Hargrave got underneath the old we’ve seen it a lot from the other angle the forklifting of Garrett Bradberry and um yeah I mean kind it’s he’s not a he’s not terrible but he is not stout in pass protection and when you’re facing Jayvon Hargrave and Jonathan Allen it can be a problem and it definitely was at least a couple times that I saw with with my uh scouting eyes yesterday. It was nice to see the Vikings defensive line doing to Garrett Bradberry what we saw opposing defensive lines due to Garrett Bradberry for like the last four years. Yeah, cuz that that’s the key, right? And that the thing too is and a couple of the sacks that we saw, we saw backto-back sacks uh in the two minute drill and what we saw in the first one was the glorious there’s no time for Drake May because it literally the pressure is immediate. The second one was Dallas Turner around the edge. That’s a more traditional sack. But the first one was the Jayvon Hargrave one and literally they snapped the ball and the play came to an end. Yeah, cuz Garrett was like, “Whoa, what happened?” And we’re like, “Garrett, that’s what happened to you all the time here.” Unfortunately, that’s why you’re in a Patriots uniform. Uh Tom Gleason says, “Phil, you should learn from Jud before I even finish.” Yep. The world should learn from Jud. So yeah, agree. I fully agree. I try to teach. You need to build the story of the day for the defense when you cover the defense and then give instances within the arc of the story like Jud does for the offense. Uh your notes were so random it was difficult to follow some of the defensive notes. First of all, Jud is incredible at camp notes and so I do aspire, we all should to match his camp notes greatness. And secondly, and you can tell me if I’m wrong on this, Jud, uh, as I could certainly be better monitoring my portion of practice, but I feel like there isn’t usually a story arc when you’re following the defense like there is an offense. Yeah. Because you’re not like it’s not full contact. You’re not finishing tackles and plays. So, it’s hard. Yeah. It’s hard to be like the defense. Now, you obviously there’s certain things that happen that are interesting. like Tyne Ingram Dawkins was running with the first team defensive line for the majority of some of those drills yesterday. Like that’s a huge theme and he had a couple pressures and sacks, but it’s it’s a little harder to just have like a storyline about the defense in a non-cont practice. And in your defense, too, I mean, I’ve been working at this particular thing for a while. Like, I’ve improved myself. Like, it is there there is I was once told this and it’s correct and it’s going to sound stupid. There is an art to watching football practice. It’s unlike any other practice because of the situational drills because of things. So the only thing that I would say is like the two minute drill to end yesterday first team defense and I’ve got that like you could break that down but a lot of this stuff and I I used to do this a lot more was it was just random notes like depth chart stuff like that’s true. So I think it’s all in what the listener wants. Do you want like cuz I do feel at times when I go through like a series that it gets long and I don’t know if the majority of the people like it perhaps they do. I hope they do but um there is a definite art to a practice you know second long like they worked on it for two days cuz according to our guy raes uh Okonnell loves second long work. Loves to do it. So they’re so the Patriots like, “Okay, we’ll do this.” I don’t think that they cared. But anyway, it is a it’s a definite thing about how a practice runs. But I thought that like your Ingram Dawkins stuff, which I which this was taking place simultaneously two fields, so I couldn’t watch that. I thought that was really intriguing. And the fact that Harrison Phillips was taking some second team snaps. It’s not nothing. I don’t think he’s going to lose a job, but it’s not nothing. So I thought you did a fine job. Well, thank you. I appreciate that validation. I thought you did a good job. Insecurities about notes. No, good job. There’s areas for improvement. But yeah, I think by the way, the the note about Tyran Ingram Dawkins and Harrison Phillips kind of bumping down to the twos. I don’t think that’s like a permanent concrete switch. I I think it’s less of an indictment on Harrison Phillips and more of they actually really like four of their maybe even five cuz they like Jaylen Redmonds. Jaylen Rebans was a wrecking ball yesterday at practice and and he was involved in a skirmish at one point which he’s feisty. I think they really like five or six of those down defensive linemen. Ingram Dawkins has more upside and potential for pass rushing than Harrison Phillips does at this point in his career. So, I think that there’s just going to be different situations where they’re able to lean on like four or five different guys on the interior. I feel like Ingram Dawkins for Phil is uh is the 2025 version of Gabriel Murphy last year who you at that time said he’s taking some first team reps and we didn’t say Van Ginko must suck. We’re like that’s interesting. So like yeah this is like him. Yes. Yes. This is all about like what they do. It depends on where your reps come. Dwight McGloin is buried on the depth chart now and I’m not sure why. And I think it means something. In the case of what you saw yesterday, they’re trying different packages though. So like, yeah, I’m not like Harrison Phillips must be a bust, but as we discussed on the episode, it’s an interesting sort of curveball to what the front could look like in a very rotational type of situation. Yeah. Juds Campose. Yeah. Kids love. The kids love the Campnotes. We love it. They do. Uh Jordan Sidell says, “You know what they say, there’s truth to all rumors. The ladies are indeed all about Jud per that note from last week that came in.” Oh yeah. Oh, I told Don about that. She laughed and laughed and laughed some. Listen, Don, options. This guy’s got options, okay? Uh the long for the longest time my wife didn’t understand me checking into Score North every day. But over time she’s become hooked on Score North podcast as well. Mainly because she loves Jud and the surprise dog sightings when uh when Stella or or Barnabas will jump on the screen. I’m planning on ordering a Purple Daily T-shirt for my wife for her birthday and wondering if there’s any chance of getting a Jud on a stick as well as part of the gift package. We live in Rapid City, South Dakota and starting teaching for a new school this year. There’s no chance of a Minnesota State Fair trip. I think Yeah, I think the Jud on a sticks are going to be available starting next Thursday at the state fair. We will have a score on North State Fair podcast stage. will be there noon to three every single weekday of the state fair. Maybe we can save one for Jordan here. Uh, from one Puma guy to another, Declan. From one happy Gilmore 2 guy to another, Mackey, could you hook a guy up? Nothing would make my wife Borat voice happier for her birthday. Love it. Let’s save one of those Jut on a sticks for our guy Jordan. Absolutely. I love this idea. There’s this woman out there who’s, you know, stomaching Mackey and Declan’s takes just for the hope of seeing a dog. And of course, Yeah. And that and and that’s the truth here. That’s the truth. One guy has been ranting about his garage door for 10 minutes. The other guy won’t stop bitching about cousins. Shut up and let me hear Jud. Yeah. Sultry douls tones. Uh, okay. Rob Good says, “Good morning, fellas. been a longtime listener and appreciate the work you put into covering the Vikings, but I wanted to address something that’s been bothering me for a couple of years now. The constant negative framing of Jordan Addison. It seems like every time his name comes up, the conversation circles back to his mistakes. Juds Addison like some immature little criminal that broke into your car. Thanks. Well, I mean, like, he has been an immature little criminal for portions of his first couple years, and he’s working. He’s had some problems. Yeah. And let’s not act like it’s only because of the off the- field mistakes either. If you gave 20-year-old Jud a Lamborghini and a mill and millions of dollars, he would rack up a lot of violations. Uh like his life depended on it. Um so, but here’s his main point. You all seem to pick one guy to hate on. Mackey has Kirk. Declan has Caleb Williams. Uh no, I mean I mean I I got Justin Herbert. Justin Herbert. You hate Justin Herbert. Yeah, he sticks unnecessarily. the frauders. Yeah, I can’t stand him. And Jud hates Jordan Addison, but Jud’s grudge feels different. It’s a Jud grudge. I may be wrong, but uh and Jud may not even remember this, but during training camp of Addison’s rookie season, Jud passed by Addison and tried to stop him for a quick question about the injury he was dealing with. Addison blew off the sports dad. And ever since, it feels like Jud has held a grudge against Jordan. A Jud grudge. Judge Jud grudge. Actually, very true. He did he did blow up the sports dead. Well, he didn’t he didn’t even say I can’t talk. He just walked past me. I’m like Jordan. And he like just walked past me, which was sort of rude. But anyway, I have been on I have been on the band wagon and Jud’s camp notes of Jordan Addison all camp. He and McCarthy have looked brilliant. Now, it’s a shame he is suspended for three games, but when you are going to get paid as much as he is and have the previous off the- field issues with driving that he has, I don’t think it’s a grudge. The reality is the Vikings are having these exact conversations. And it appears that he had he kept his nose clean, right, this summer, which is a great thing. He’s coming to camp. He’s unfortunately suspended for the first three games, but he’s looked fantastic. But he’s an interesting guy because he’s behind Jefferson. We have no idea if he’s going to sign here. We we have no idea if the Vikings are going to want to pay him. Hell, he might say, “You know what? I’ll go make my bones elsewhere and I’ll be the number one guy.” Um, but he’s a spectacular talent. I mean, for a number two, like this is not I hate on guys that perceive their importance of like, “I’m really good.” It’s like, “You’re okay, but you’re not that good and just shut up.” Jordan’s not that. This guy is really good. He looks really good. I feel like the commentary has been very fair. Like the the dude has he’s had off the- field issues for two straight summers that have now cost him the first month of the season basically. And that that warrants criticism over that period. Uh and any and I think some maybe the trade speculation is mixed in there, but that’s more of just a roster building discussion. Hey, they’ve got Jefferson as a highly paid guy. Are they going to pay Addison too or is he likely to be traded? It’s it’s not like specific to it’s more about the roster building, but I think we all agree this dude is a stud. He absolutely would be WR1 on many teams in the NFL. And if he’s healthy with the chemistry he has with McCarthy, even missing three games, he might still put up a thousand yards and a bunch of touchdowns this year. So, yep. Uh I got one more and then Chuck, I know we’re keeping you kind of long here. Do you still have time for a snake draft of the week? I I got time for you boys. Don’t worry. Don’t worry. to hear about more Jud grudges. Maybe I do want to hear about Jud grudges. I do have some Jud grudges. Okay. Ryan Sudter, Zack Breezy, I got some Jud grudges. What do you mean you and Ryan Sudter are quick trip buddies now? I don’t know what you’re talking about. No, they bounced them for me. Yeah, they literally did. They got rid of him for me. I came in. You know why? Cuz he didn’t wear a quick trip hat. You know what’s funny? You You used to make fun of him for like he’s not grabbing a chicken Caesar wrap. It’s like no. Well, but we’re grabbing sandwiches every day for quick trip, right? Cuz we’re ordinary people. We’re ordinary people. That’s exactly why. And by the way, that I told you that sandwich, cranberry bread. Oh, so good. Yeah. Yeah. It sounds like Thanksgiving in in the summer, which is amazing. It sort of is. Kind of is. The turkey sandwich, cranberry bread. That’s not far off. There’s no gravy, but I don’t know that I need it in August. Uh Bruce Babbett says, “Good morning. Hope you guys are doing well. Just want to touch base on the sports dad and the back and posture issues he’s referred to. I used to have chronic lower back and neck issues and someone suggested upper body yoga. I’ve never I I I’ve used nothing but the basic introduction to upper body yoga and uh it all but resolved my lower back and neck issues. Something the sports dad might want to consider upper body yoga. Tell me more. I what if I have no idea what you’re doing? I could chime in a little on this. I’m not a practitioner of upper body yoga. But what I can tell you is to put it simply, the body is a system, right? And and if if there’s something happening in one place, yeah, you might have hurt there, but it also could be being caused by something else. You know, when you’re right when you’re doing judge camp notes, you’re bringing a lot of tension sometimes because you’re so locked in up top. And so that’s kind of radiating down your entire spine. This is this is my educated guess, Jud. But in all seriousness, there’s probably something to this. Like the body, the back, effectively the back. You can do something high can affect something low. So I I I Yeah, but I have notorious bad posture, too. Me, too, Jud. So, I’m with you. I think we both I slump. I think I come over to your house and we do yoga together. What do you think? I’ll bring the Vinster. Well, here’s the thing. I only need this dog during camp. I don’t have this problem because I don’t stand enough outside of camp. Camp is the one time where where my bad posture catches up to me. I’m not even trying to improve it, but I would like to to take away. But you’re right, Chuck. It’s tension. Mhm. It’s tension right back here or right on my shoulder blade. Yeah, I got some exercises for you, too. I can here for core power yoga. Gmail them to me. I’d love to see them. Yeah. Yeah, I can I can I do them cuz I get I do get some tension. This could be a separate spin-off show on Purple Daily. It’s just Jud and Chuck doing upper body yoga with soothing sounds in the background. Uh Spencer wants to know where is Purple Daily going to be at the state fairgrounds. So, we do have a there’s a map right now on scornorth.com/fair and it literally shows you, but just to explain it for if you’re not going to the website when you get to the state fair, the big grandstand as you’re looking at it, like the back of the grandstand, the big concrete thing, it’s like right on the left side of that, a block out basically, and it’s kind of kitty corner from the one of the Sweet Martha’s Cookies barns. You’ll see the Scorn and Purple Daily signage. Our guy Ross Brendle’s out there right now like helping to finalize the signage and stuff. So yeah, that’s that’s next Thursday. We’ll be out there. Purple Daily is going to be live every day, but noon to 3 uh every weekday at the State Fair. Are you guys ready for our snake draft of the week here on Purple Daily? Let’s do it. Oh yeah. This will be this will be a fourperson snake draft uh with Chuck Aoki getting the number one overall pick. Uh Dex, you’ll be drafting second. I’ll be drafting third, then Jud. Three rounds. We’ll do a snake draft, so we’ll flip it in the second round. And uh it’s presented in part by MSP Plumbing, Heating, and Air Conditioning. Judly. Yep. And so, guess what? We’re going back and forth. It’s the summer of it’s comfortable and then it’s not. And on the days it’s not, if your AC is not functioning right, your house is not as comfortable as it should be. And MSP definitely can help you with that. They’re also back at Woodberry Days August 22nd through the 24th. Uh they’re going to be in their booth all weekend long. That’s a Friday through Sunday. And this time MSP is partnering with Halo Water Systems to give one lucky uh person a free whole home water filtration system. That’s right, free home water filtration system. More than 100 years in our community serving you. I don’t think Prize Pick has been around for a hundred years, but uh pretty close. And Prize Pick is the best way to win real money this football season. So, they have pre they have preseason games on here and it’s glorious. They’ve got So, yesterday I was able to Thor was telling us about some of the longer term ones, but I was able to go in and so you go in, it’s you select between two and six players. It’s very fast. You pick more or less on their projected stats. And uh I snagged Lucky Jackson, as you can see right here, for tomorrow. 23.5 receiving yards for Lucky Jackson, my guy. Get that in a catch. Sam Howell starting. Going to be looking for Lucky a lot. Jackson will start. Like that’s like a freebie right there basically, isn’t it? Don’t you think he’s going over 23.5? I hope so. It’s my guy. He dude with with the Jaylen Naylor injury too. Like he had a hand wrap. Lucky Jackson might legitimately be your number two receiver for the first couple games. But uh yeah, download the prize picks app today on your phone. Use the code purple daily. Get $50 in lineups when you play just $5. That’s code purple daily on prize picks. To get $50 in lineups when you play just $5 prize picks, run your game. All right, so Dex, what are the latest statistics in our snake draft of the week here? Wow, what a week it was last week. So, number one, after uh uh Jud buster Douglas me in the Taco Bell menu items, Jud won, you were the Mike Tyson of Taco Bell when he came in. and Jud like handedly you had 50% of the vote and fun fact it shattered our previous record of most voted on snake draft I think because Taco Bell itself tweeted us at the poll which probably upped the interactions. So there was 1,800 votes on that snake draft shattering the previous record of 1400. So that that was shattered. So Jud, that was your second straight win, too, on a Snake draft. So you’re riding a twoame winning streak. Uh Phil has only won one Snake draft since April 18th, a 4 month uh kind of skid for you. Um I’m 12 for 47. Uh AJ, when Andy Pettit does pitch in the World Series, he wins. He’s he’s 6 for 10 overall. Uh so yeah, there’s there’s some updates on this week’s snake draft. So we’re going to start with Chuck. you get the honor of the number one overall pick or the or the burden of it. It’s it’s sometimes difficult and then Dex me judge and and the topic is current Minnesota athletes and I will say that the spirit of this I should have said this before is team sport athletes. Sure. Team sport athletes. So, you know, like I don’t know like if there’s like Eric Van Ruian the golfer or uh I don’t know why that was the first name. Sunni Lee the gymnast. Sunni Lee Brock Lesnar or whatever. Like Okay. Okay. Chuck can take himself, right? Wow. No. Well, yeah. Team sport. Yeah. He’s a team sport. You’re right. In theory, Chuck could take himself. But No. Well, wait though, but it’s but it’s not a Minnesota team. He’s he’s in national team. Oh, I thought you meant Minnesota athlete. So, just Minnesota team athletes. I just want to make sure. And by the way, I didn’t say best necessarily. We’re drafting current Minnesota team sport athletes. So, Chuck, you are on the board with the number one overall pick. Okay. Yeah, I I’ve been thinking about this. This is this is pressure. I I to me there’s really only two obvious options. And I think in the spirit of it being hashtag camp season camp notes, I got to go with our guy Justin Jefferson. I just think I have to do it. I do want to know how many of those 1800 votes, by the way, for Jud were from Rapid City, South Dakota. I’m guessing a lot, right? Hey, you know, I think you can only vote once, right? Unless you go to different Unless you go to different um Unless you have burner unless you have burner accounts for the snake draft of the week vote, in which case Yeah. Well, that’s actually how I’m going to get off. That’s how I’m going to get my win. I’m just going to create 500 burner accounts. Okay, Dex. Okay, Chuck Chuck nails it. I think the top two guys are very obvious in Minnesota for best athletes. So, um with Jefferson off the board, I’ll take Ant. I’ll take Anthony Edwards. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. The Ant-Man goes uh number two here. So, this is where, you know, the word best would be one meaning, but it’s just current. It’s current Minnesota athletes here. And so, I will take JJ McCarthy with my first round pick. Give me give me give me the the future best quarterback in modern Vikings history. JJ McCarthy. Solid pick. Good pick. That gets us back to Jud. You get wraparound picks here. the last pick in the first round, first pick in the second round. So, do I take Sam Howell now or later? Okay. So, um here’s what I’m going to do with my first of the two picks. I’m going to take Nfishia Collier. Y best player in the WNBA. Currently injured. Yep. But a great player. A great play. And then with my second one, I am going to go towards my sport of hockey and take Carell Capri off. Okay. Capri off. Yep. I feel like the Wild, if the Wild make a run at some point, I mean, he can really solidify himself as a if they go to the Stanley Cup finals at some point, he would be like, you know, Mike Madano was kind of headed there early, if not for moving to Dallas, but he could be that figure. It would take one playoff run for him to just to the moon. Well, before he got hurt last season, he was very much in the heart trophy for MVP discussion. Like, he was fantastic. Um, so yeah. No, he is he is the best. He’s probably the best NHL player in North Stars or Wild that we’ve seen. Yeah, just as far as his skill set. This is where it gets a little I’m back on the clock here second round. This is where it gets a little tricky cuz it’s there were some players if we would have done this a year ago that might have been a lot higher and like Twins players for example. Twins fans. I’m gonna go with I’m gonna go with a man whose likeness travels internationally at some of the biggest sporting events on a towel. Nas Reed. Give me Nas Reed here. Wow, that’s a great pick. I was on my list, you guys. He’s on my board. Kind of hoping he would sneak through to me on the back end, but no, I should have known better. Make it. That puts Decks back on the board here, followed by backto-back Chuck picks. Yeah. Uh, okay. I’ll I’ll take Buck. I’ll take Byron Buckton. Give me the Buck Chuck. I know the Twins uh there is some contention with the fan base. That is rightfully so. But we can’t deny Byron Buckton having a great year. So, give me Buck. I’ll take Byron Bon. It’s it’s too bad that and of course he spent two stints on the injured list, too, which is kind of buzz killed it. Um but it’s too bad that this season for him is just completely overshadowed and buried by all of the other BS and crap surrounding this team. But that’s for another podcast, the Score Twin Show. if you want to hear us rant more about that. Uh Chuck, you get the last pick in the third round and then you round it out with the first pick in the uh sorry, second round, then third round. Yeah. So, a couple I said a couple guys who I thought were going to were going to sneak through to me but but didn’t. But that’s okay. The board doesn’t always go your way as our as our our main man Quy knows. So, I’m going to go ahead and grab here. I’m gonna take Jaden McDaniels with Okay. Yeah. I’m gonna grab Jade McDaniels. I I I just I love watching Jaden McDaniels play. I just I love it. I I think I really think players like him are underrated in their contributions to um to the team. But anyway, that’s kind of and he feels like there’s another little level there that we saw for a two or three months last year. This kind of 18 point scorer that can score at three different levels. There’s there’s another level there for sure. Yeah. So, I’m going to grab I’m going to grab him and then I think with my my my my my turnaround pick here. I’m gonna Boy, I’m back and forth on a couple guys. I think I’m actually This This might be a little wild here. I’m going to grab Aaron Jones. Oh. Oh, I’m gonna gra. Aaron Jones here. Sneaky little sleeper. I’m going to grab Aaron Jones. He does. He’s a very good player with a bright personality. very likable team leader type guy. Yeah. Okay. Feels like there’s a lot of Vikings that are kind of in a in a bin here that you could potentially take. Yeah. Uh Dex, your final pick in this current Minnesota athletes. Are we doing three rounds or four rounds? Three rounds. Four people. Three rounds. I thought I thought I read we might be doing four, which is great cuz I think there’s some even UFAS on the board. Uh so I’ll take I’ll take the grizzled vet. I’ll take a guy everyone loves. You’ve been here a long time. Give me Harrison Smith. Yeah, give me Harry. Give me the Hitman. I don’t have a Viking on the list. So, give me give me Harrison Smith. Good. You got to have a Viking in there in there somewhere. It’s a good pick. Um, all right. I get the next pick here and then Jud will finish it out. Oh, man. There’s a there’s there’s a few Vikings on here for sure. There’s a Twins player, but I feel like the Twins are kind of toxic right now. Oh, you’re going after the win. He’s going after the win. And so I’m gonna get a little sneaky here and I’m gonna represent two different Minnesota teams with the same player here. I almost did this. Give me Maximus Brosmer. Okay. Yeah. Wow. It was between Harry and me. Yeah. Max, the the starting quarterback of a Did they win a They won the Duke’s Mayo a Duke’s Mayo Bowl champion and maybe the lead candidate for Mr. Mano 2025. That’s true. Max. Wow. The 2029 Super Bowl starting quarterback. Team DVD. Team DVD. It’s going to take till 29. That’s fair. What happens to 28 season? 20 27. 27. Sorry. Sorry. People are mad at that pick in the comment sections here. This is why you don’t win. Awful pick. WTF? Listen, if you want to be on the wrong side of Max Brosmer history, that is your prerogative. Okay, people in the chat. All right. All right, Jud. You get the ends with me. So, my choices are interesting. On my big board, I’ve got Brock Faber still. Of course, I picked a wild player already. Joe Ryan, probably deserving. Mhm. Twins ace now, but um I don’t have a Viking and I feel like a Viking would be the best to represent the closing of my list. Give me Jonathan Grinard. Oh wow. Go Jordan Addison. Give me Jonathan Grard. I thought about it. He’s never beaten the allegations with that. I thought about it, but I’m going to go with the sackmaster. The man who brings the pressure. He’s so good. Jonathan Bernard. One of the great non-trade trades that that I’ve seen, Denil Hunter goes to a place in in te with the Texans where he perfectly is suited, right? It’s a four four three there. Mhm. And so he can edge rush, which is what he does. Grenard comes here three and he’s been great. So yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So uh I’ll I’ll give you the the rosters here in a second, but undrafted free agents of note. Christian Derisaw, Jordan Addison, Andrew Van Ginkle, Josh Mattelis, Luke Khaw, Khaw Pablo. I know Pablo’s hurt. Pablo, I had Pablo on there as a Pablo. But half of the stud buds, Courtney Williams. Yeah, I thought about the the stud buds are on fire right now. Could we have picked the Stud Buds as like one or that that break the rules? It would have been kind of controversial. I would have protested. They are very popular. Both live streaming their lives. Well, that’s a good Oh, I didn’t have him on my board. I should have thought if we went four. I was thinking about Damn. Matt Mcowski, the random guy the twins took as a car. No, Louis Vard. No, Ty. By the way, Ty France hitting like 400 with the Blue Jays. So, that’s cool. I should have had a quit parish. That’s a great one. I love that. Nobody drafted our guy Chuck. Chuck uh apologies to Chuck Aoki. Legendary. Took him out because he doesn’t play for a team here. Yeah, that’s fair. It’s fair place for your country. Yeah. Hey, Chuck, dude, thanks for taking time out of your morning here hanging out with us. And by the way, there’s less than an hour for the live streamers here. Less than an hour to get your final bids or just straight up if you want to donate. Uh that will be open even beyond the auction deadline of noon central time here at scorn.com/bid. Any other final uh Vikings takes to get out there into the world before we say goodbye? Oh, no. No. I couldn’t possibly compete with the Jud grudges. No, guys, it’s been a blast. You know, I think it I think it’s gonna be a fun season. You know, all caution to people. I got a lot of young players on our team right now. There’s ups and downs with young players, but you want that trajectory going upwards, and I think we’re going upwards. So, upwards and onwards. Awesome. Amen. Chuck Aoki. Follow him. Instagram, Chuck Aayoki. And uh let’s do let’s let’s do it. Let’s do it again. We need to do this more than once a year. We’d love to get you on and chop it up about uh this football team sometime in the near future. Absolutely. And I got to get Judge. I got to fix Judge back. So, I got to Yeah, you’re going to help me out. Some partner stretching. Maybe some partner stretching. Hey, whatever it takes. Just got to get it loosened up back there. So, that’ll that’ll be uh Purple Daily After Dark with Jud and Chuck coming to the YouTube channel sometime soon. All right, guys. Uh for Chuck Aoki for the Sports Dad Jud for Mustache Producer Dex, I’m Phil. We just want the Vikings to win a Super Bowl before we die here. Purple Daily.

  1. I have no problem with the criticism of Addison he is a top 10 WR in the NFL IMHO but he's a punk I've had a low opinion of him since his comments immediately after being drafted spectacular player and I want him on my team and he has doesn't have to apologize for anything he's a great football player not a role model but I don't have to like him personally either.

  2. Ok, but I don't think it's fair to exclude somebody like Suni Lee. Gymnastics IS a team sport, but regardless, I don't think that should have been a restriction in this draft.

  3. I live in Florida, but now I am thinking of driving all the way to Minnesota just so I can get that turkey cranberry sandwich at Quick Trip!! Sports Dad made it sound so delicious!

  4. Thanks to Jordan Addisons' selfishness, the Vikes can't take any chance on Jeffrson missing any time at all. He can't even practice. We can't roll out week 1 with a rookie QB missing WR #1 & #2. I hope Addison feels it deep down when he watches the Vikings play without him. I hope he wants to be out there so bad that he cries. It would be the best thing for his dumb @ss.

  5. Segment idea: "Good Question Judd", where listeners can suggest questions for Judd to ask players and coaches in press conferences, and the PD team deliberates and votes on the question.

  6. I understand why there are media narratives, and talking points they need to either create or cultivate. But every single thing this franchise has done since hiring this power infrastructure has been done deliberately to cultivate a franchise qb. They have had a plan since before JJ was drafted and that plan has continued ever since. No outside noise has ever changed that. This is a team w a very well established mission statement and plan of attack – it has all been strategically instituted and putting JJ against a relentless D on the other side of the ball is all a part of that plan. Nobody will ever convince me otherwise. Listen to the words they say. It isnt conjecture or reading between the lines, they have flat out told us since day one.

I appreciate that bc it enables me to drown out the background media cultivated noise that is purely to generate clicks. I am convinced the team knows and has bought into that too.

This is the year colon cowturd learns Kevin O’Connell’s name and stops referring to him as “tall sean mcvay” – bc that is the depth of Colon’s knowledge, depth, and character.

The Vikings are a better organization than all of that. Plain and simple.

  7. Honestly on the draft, missed a huge upside pick in Koi Perich. All Big 10 as a freshman and on the preseason all American team as a true sophomore.

  8. Another take on how Michigan fans feel about JJ. I’m a Vikings fan (now) and regular viewer of Purple Daily solely because I started following JJ’s progress summer 2024. Devastating when he was injured, but had become hooked in the team. Last Sat., I was visiting Colorado and found the Northern Colorado Vikings Fan Club as I looked for a spot for watching the game. Bottom line: JJ is a fun player to watch. He made it fun again to be a Michigan fan. My fingers are crossed for him for this season! Michigan Football became secondary for me after last year’s poor showing.

  9. Addison can be a legit number 1 on: Browns, Bills, Ravens, Raiders, Broncos, Chargers, Colts, Titans (maybe) Packers (lol) Flacons (maybe), Saints, Panthers (for now), Seahawks, (they may be eying him soon) Cards (I'm going there) SF (depending how Aiyuk bounces back) this can all change a year from now. But for now I said what I said.
