Terrible night for Cease and Padres vs. Snell, Dodgers

All right, the Padres’s they dropped game two of this series. They’ve already lost this series. It was Blake Snow on the mound for the Dodgers and Dylan CE on the mound for the Pods. And the question going in, what Dylan CE were we going to get? And we ended up getting the Dylan CE that we can’t trust come postseason time or at least that’s how I feel. And I felt this way going into this start and I feel only stronger about that coming off of this start. He had that good start against the Dodgers at Petco Park earlier this season, but at Dodger Stadium, remember the start before this last one started off really well. I think he struck out the first five guys and then didn’t have enough gas in the tank the rest of the way here. Turned into Blake Snell that we saw with the Padres’s at times. Way too many walks. I think he finished with six walks today. Unacceptable. Six walks. You don’t make it through four innings. He only gave up two hits. When you walk three times the amount of hits that you allow, that’s crazy. And then we know CE has strikeout stuff. He only struck out a couple of guys. Now, Snell, on the other hand, only struck out a few guys, but didn’t allow any runs. Six innings, five hits, no runs from him. Not surprised that Snell was able to dominate the Padres’s. Kind of what happens. That’s the feeling that I got going into this that yeah, Snell is probably going to be pretty darn good. Uh although Dodger fans just I mean I shouldn’t be shocked, but like they don’t understand what a quality start is. I tweet shocker something like this. Shocker. Blake Snell’s first quality start comes against the Padres’s uh as a Dodger. And then I got Dodger fans in the comments talking about how he struck out 10 guys against the Blue Jays in five innings. And I’m like, “You guys don’t understand what a quality start is, so just how about read what I’m saying before you reply, but they’re not the smartest bunch.” Um, but anyway, like back to the performance from Dylan CE. I mean, the three walks that he had there, the first three walks in the first inning, guess what? They come around to score. just free passes, fast balls left up out of the zone and just not make not being able to make the adjustment. Or if he knew he wasn’t going to be able to make the adjustment today, he, you know, don’t try to throw it in that spot and maybe try to throw it in a different location in the zone and try to throw those balls down, um, throw different pitches. It It just wasn’t working tonight. And man, I miss Joe Musgrove. If the Padres’s had Joe Musgrove as a starter, they could literally go with Paveta, maybe King, Darvish, and Musgrove as their four starters in the postseason. And then you wouldn’t even have to have Dylan CE on the roster if you didn’t want him to. You know, maybe you’d have him in the bullpen or something, but like uh now there’s that question. Um, I think they’d have Dylan CE on the roster, but the good thing is I think they’re changing the off days coming up in the postseason. So, you could get through a series with three starting pitchers and not have to use a fourth. Um, and also with this Padres’s bullpen, maybe they would get a great start from Paveta or something and he goes really deep and then they can have, you know, W and David Morgan start a game and, you know, you can throw Randy in there and you can get away with that. instead of having to throw to throw Dylan CE. If it’s Dylan CE against another team, whether it be the Mets or the Phillies or the Brewers or whoever, I’m more open to that. But if it’s against the Dodgers specifically, I don’t want Dylan CE anywhere near the mound in the postseason. And if he wants to if he proves me wrong, that’ll be great because that means he pitched well and hopefully the Padres’s win that game. But right now, don’t trust the guy. And it’s almost like I don’t really care what he does the rest of the season because I’m still going to have these Dodgers memories in these outings. And it sure seems like the Padres’s are going to face the Dodgers again in the postseason. That’s what it feels like right now. Um it’s not all on Dylan Cast though. Obviously they scored zero runs. Don’t score, you’re not going to win. So offense, you still need to see more. Um Jackson in center field dropping that ball. That’s inexcusable. Um they just forgot how to play baseball at times today. Uh really really not fun to watch. And then offensively or I should say on the base pass it’s not working. So let’s keep doing it. How does that make sense? You allow Will Smith to throw you out three times in the first two innings and one of those you had a runner in scoring position already with two outs with bogey up at the plate. How about you let him swing the bat and finish the atbat because Blake Snow would have thrown ball three there on the the pitch that ended the inning there. Manny gets thrown out. Was it was he safe? Could the Potteries have reviewed that and would they have won it? Maybe. Who knows? But what actually happened was he was called out. They didn’t review it and that was the end of the inning. Maybe let Xander swing the bat. And the aggressiveness is that because not very confident in this offense. So let’s get a guy in scoring position and you know get a hit and bring in a run that way. Okay. But you got to realize who’s behind the plate. As much as I hate him, Will Smith’s one of the best catchers in baseball. This is not some random guy getting called up and now he’s thrown into this big situation. Will Smith’s been in these situations. He he knows these Padres’s runners pretty darn well. So yeah, you would think after the first couple times they wouldn’t try it a third time and they did. Um so that didn’t set a great tone there early on. And then obviously I mean the first couple innings they Dodgers scored five runs there and it felt like the game was over already. But yeah, like just dug a hole and you you know that saying that that Mike Schil has about this Padres’s team and his last couple Padres’s teams these last couple years, how they they take everything, they give away nothing, right? Well, today it was the opposite. It was literally give them everything and take nothing. Give them outs. Give them free outs on the base pass. Give them free runs. Give them free base runners. Give them more plate appearances by dropping balls in the outfield. Give away everything is what that was tonight. So yeah, if they get swept, the good news is it’s still just two games back, but it would feel like a huge missed opportunity obviously. And if they want this division, they better play a whole lot better next weekend when the Dodgers are in in in town obviously at Beco. Uh but yeah, not expecting much success off of Blake Snow when he pitches against the Padres’s. Just not. And Dylan Cece, I don’t want him pitching against the Dodgers in a Padre uniform probably ever again. And that’s just how I feel about it. Not a fun game. took me a little bit to give a reaction because the Wave actually an entertaining team got a win at Bay and SDFC plays tomorrow at that same uh PayPal park against San Jose. So that’ll give us something to watch tomorrow as well. But uh I think 110 is the series finale tomorrow. Trying to get one win here. If they do, then obviously they will have avoided the sweep and then I believe it would be a tie for first place in the National League West. If they lose and then they get swept, then they’ll be two games back in the National League West. Right now they’re a game back. Dodgers run differential significantly better than the Padres’s plus 87. The Padres’s plus 45. That’s what I’ve got. Not a fun night. [Music]

Dylan Cease didn’t do his job tonight and it was just a sloppy, ugly game

  1. You know who was “not so smart” Sméagol? Peter Seidle! Who actually thought it was possible to bring a title to san diego,LMAO. I don’t know who was “ Not So Smarter” him or padre fans for believing him lmao 🤣 at least you can hang a banner for leading the division for a day or two 😂

  2. The padres offense reverted back to what they have been most of the year. Bottom dwelling offense… that seems to be the issue. I feel like the doyers are probably gonna go on a tare after they sweep us today, i doubt we win today. Doyers go on a tare and we revery back to having a horrible offense. That will be the way we lose the west. But what matters is how we do in the playoffs, gotta beat the doyers when it matters.

  3. Machado and company just folded . This Padre core don’t have it in themselves to rise to the big stage. Succumb to the fans in dodger stadium, succumb to will smith and the dodgers pitching. The Padres are postseason posers who choose to choke. Change my mind. Should’ve sold at the deadline.

  4. I would have much more respect if the Padres threw at their hitters like they did to Tatis and Arraez in the 8th . They better send chin music in game three at Ohtani , Smith , freeman , Betts , Teoscar. Padres need to stop being pussys

  5. Most fans with brains knew that Cease was terrible. They guy essentially gifted the NLDS to the Dodgers last year. Let's face it. This team isn't going to get it done. Machado and Tatis just aren't clutch players. No matter, come October, fans can move on to SDSU football, Darren Smith's soccer podcast, and the Chargers.

  6. This guy is a joke
Never played a single game in his entire life but he’s out here calling out mlb players like he matters
Again this guy is a crybaby

  7. Clearly the Padres were trying to come out aggressive from the start with those stolen base attempts. However, that was stupid of them considering how many hits they had in the 1st. They FAFOed pretty quickly. Then you have Cease giving 5 runs on 1 hit. I’m sure that was a moral killer. Anyway, LFGD!

  8. You want to get into a conversation about who has smarter fans the Padres or the Dodgers? Are you kidding me? You guys are literally, not virtually, the most uneducated (in baseball knowledge) Fanbase in all of baseball. You want to have your little show here and talk about the Padres go ahead, but don’t even get close to the conversation and the debate about who has a better baseball educated Fanbase. FULL STOP. You probably don’t know what that means so I’ll wait for you to look it up …Tapping Fingers…Okay, and another thing, L O L (I’m editing my Full Stop) – I love San Diego, I vacation in Coronado I love the people but under no circumstances are these people knowledgeable baseball fans. They are very excitable fans who like the aesthetics of being a fan, but it’s almost embarrassing how low their baseball IQ actually is. So don’t even. FULL STOP 😉

  9. Clown do you call the padres faithful? All this bandwagon don’t even know where Jack Murphy was or Qualcomm! They know baseball? Stop !!

  10. I was at Petco on June 10th and watched Dylan Cease 3-hit the Dodgers over seven frames. I was hoping that version of Cease would reappear! The trade deadline has passed, Dylan has been pitching better, but he couldn't keep it going…. Padres need to get out of LA with one of these games!

  11. Wait a minute… You hate Will Smith? What’s it like being in a club of one on planet earth. You can hate what he does to your team but there is not a better human being, less flamboyant and more respectful of fellow players and people in general than Will Smith. Is Nose-to-the grindstone modesty that foreign of a concept to you? Wow. Well at least it’ll be cheap when you order the “I hate Will Smith” jackets because you’ll only need one! And I say this with all due respect the more I listen to you the more whacked out you get. wow wow wow. Fittingly, you’re adding to the bad karma that Machado and Tatis blanket the team with every season – They’ve trained you well.
