Yankees vs. Cardinals Game Highlights (8/17/25) | MLB Highlights

It’s another hot one in Saint Louis. Cardinals. They try to avoid a three game sweep at the hands of the New York Yankees. They brought out the power sticks last night. How do you slow down a hot offense? Well, good starting pitching it. Boy, Miles Michaels has been very good at home in his last five, last five, a 191. a only three walks, you know, he’s a strike thrower. 21 strikeouts. Trent Grisham steps up to the plate and that one right back where it came from, knocked down at short and the foul first is just in time. What a play Mason Nguyen handles a rocket up the middle and out on a bang bang play the arm of Mason N shows up again. This one narrowly misses Miles Michael is knocked down, thought it was a sure fire hit. But the arm of Mason Nguyen who is, well on his way to winning a gold glove is the difference most outs above average of any position player that’s owned by the Cardinals shortstop’s Ben Rice last night, three for 57 RBIs taken down low. Ben Rice works a walk. Here’s judge, judge swings and he hits a high, towering fly ball deep right field on the track walker has it. He throws into second base with Rice to first that out at Yankee Stadium. That would probably be a fight for the about 1215, maybe 20 rows back. This one hit pioneer to center first chance for church. Welcome to the show, young man. No trouble at the edge of the warning track and Miles Michael works around a one out walk. Rookie will Warren last four starts. He’s been on a good roll going 23 and one third innings. Almost averaging 62 of a 1.93. Er, a right center field that’s down for a hit. Bellinger to his right thinks about it but wisely slams on the brakes. So there goes the no hitter, a leadoff single for the runner goes, the pitch is swung on and bounced to the right side of the infield. Chisholm clips to first to get the out on win but New is in scoring position. A first baseman left hand hitter chopper up the middle with a good play. Got the hop. He wanted good bars at third and Herrera bats with two outs. He got him 95 upstairs and herrera down on strikes as Warren is able to work around the leadoff single, Chisholm works the walk and that will set the stage for Paul Goldschmidt in his return, stepping out in front of the plate. Joel Poso allowing time for Paul Goldschmidt and the tip of the batting helmet for the Cardinal fans who give him a standing ovation so well deserved. Tough to hit with tears in your eyes. That’s pretty special tells, you know what this man meant to this organization. Runner goes and Chisholm is in there easily, Chisholm. Now his eighth steal in the last 14 games, six in the last six games, a swing and a line drive by Burleson. No chance to double JJ R off second base. The former cardinal first baseman lines out to today’s cardinal first baseman. One down. Here’s Jason dominguez, a high fly ball left field playable for Lars. He makes the catch back to second Jazz. Chisholm junior two outs. Ryan Mcmahon hit his first Yankee home run his 17th of the year in the game yesterday, five for 16 against miles. The 3 to 2 back up the middle right to Mason throw is perfect. Michael works around a leadoff walk a fly out and a ground out. Gorman and Walker are out here is joel poo poo. 28 years old is the oldest cardinal in the lineup. His ball hit right through the wickets up the middle. Jazz field throws got one right between Warren’s legs. Jazz is shaving towards the middle. Nice play by Jazz Chisholm a 123 2nd inning, a couple of hits against Warren in the third inning Jays on second. Now with Newport 2 to 2. So far , here’s Mason Nguyen shortstop , right hand hitter, brain ball swung on a big strikeout number two for Warren two out with two on in the third inning. This is a tough out because swings at the field. He does not k only about 14% of the time flies that into left dominguez towards the line makes the catch and end the inning. Warren able to work around the trouble, No score through three taken up and in it flips as bad as only he can all four. The fourth walk by Michael, he’s walked Rice twice and now Jazz nice for gold lined out hard to burl and there he goes as that ball is drilled into left center field and deep church looking up , it’s off the wall. Chisholm actually stopped at second. Now ends up at third gold there with a double and the Yankees with 2nd and 3rd 1 out. Not sure why Jazz Chisholm stopped at second base there. He does not peak in so he never finds the baseball. So once it’s hit, he’s got to find it with no where it is hit opportunity. Here one out here’s Dominguez runners at 2nd and 3rd swings bounces one up the middle of the plate. Charging is the second baseman throws not in time. Too much speed. Dominguez scoring on the play is Jazz Chisholm Yankees lead one Goldschmidt. Now at third base, there’s still just one out and here’s where you have to stay away from the big inning. Here’s Mcmahon grounded out to short his first time back. One is through into right a base hit. Dominguez will head to third scoring is Gold Schmidt. It’s an RB I single for Ryan Mcmahon and the Yankee lead is now two to zero. Second time around, they’re getting better swings and because it’s 1st and 3rd and you’re having to hold the runner , he gets through the hole, the pitch is piling up for Michael as he’s one shy of 70 he’s not out of the fourth inning yet. Jose Caballero is the next New York batter. First pitch. He hits it through the right side beautifully done by Caballero. He scores Dominguez. It’s 3 to 0 a pitch away from him and he went with it nicely done. Three nothing Yankees that is four straight hits by the Yankees and now they’re back to the top of the order. Here’s Grisham, a couple of men on board one out. Thank you very much, Grisham can’t believe it. Nick Lentz is going to be hearing it from both sides. Now, Boone not happy with this one sinker in appeared to be well off the plate, but Michael gets it when he needs it the most. Aaron Boone, he’s getting close and now the third base umpire walks over the Yankee dugout and issues an ejection. Vick Carapazza just tossed someone from the New York bench. So a big second out for Michael. Now you got to cash it in, hit in the air to right center field and miles is going to get out of the inning eventually as church settles under it makes the play but a three run inning for the Yankees that’s taken low. He’s issued his first walk and the Cardinals have two aboard. One out. Yankees will make a mound visit here as pozos, the JC and Nathan Church are lurking in the Cardinals and that brings the tying run to the plate popped up. Might be playable. First base side will Warren right there, Warren and now Rice makes the catch sliding with Warren pretty much in his back pocket directly. At least the traffic. Somebody made the catch. That was the important thing. Well hit right going back. One run scores here comes walker. He will score. Bellinger played to shallow and si beats him. It’s a 3 to 2 game. Bellinger was played shallow and Then broke in. I think he was reading more of the swing there by Sasi than he was the actual bat off the ball. Thomas comes up big with two strikes that’s hit hard ground to short caballero. The backhand will throw out Nathan Church to end the inning but the Cardinals put two on the board. It’s three to two. Lars Barley is off the fifth. He’s two for two that’s grounded right side and JJ gets to it. He throws it away at first takes the turn to second and he is running for second base as the ball hit the base of the backstop and rolled over toward the Yankee on deck circle. So Nar is on with a hit and an error. The tying run is at second with nobody out in the fifth inning. Mason win strike three. Got him looking with a sinker for the first out of the fifth. Just the perfect pitch sinker up in the zone and hits the corner quadrant Burleson can pick up Mason N here into right center field down for a hit. They’re going to wave. Belling’s throw is cut off with the first pitch ties the game. It’s a 3 to 3 score. Warren was trying to get in there chip. He wanted to throw that sweeper back foot down and in is the sweet spot of the swing here for Alec Burleson. It is Devin Williams time he of the Airbender changeup. He’s on to face Nolan Gorman, a man aboard in a tie game that’s down and in ball four, the inning continues for Jordan Walker. Walker up with a chance to put the Cardinals in front runners lead to 1st and 3rd with two outs in the cardinal fifth. He got them 95 upstairs and walker couldn’t catch up to it. Williams comes in and does the job. It’s a 3 to 3 game through five. Dominguez and Goldschmidt have singles two on for Ryan Mcmahon on the ground could be two snagged by JC to throw to first and he needed that one pitch equals two outs. Now, we’ll see if he can leave Goldie stranded there at third. Jose cro he buzzes that one in and under. The Camilo Duval appears in his eighth game for the Yankees. He’s facing Joel Pozo in the bottom of the sixth swing and a magic wand of joel Poso. The Cardinals in front. Joel poso is fifth of the season to get the Cardinals. And that is a slider driven out of the ballpark by Joel 3 to 1 pitch that’s way high and a leadoff walk exactly what the Cardinals did not want. But that was a shame because two of those pitches were strikes to Trent Grisham. A just got tossed from the game. Nick Glen said come on out and Oliver Marmol is going to go at it. Ali is going to get his money’s worth. We’ve had somebody tossed from the Yankees, one of their catching instructor and Ali. So Ben Rice will, that’s a check swing but a called strike three fo him with that location and he couldn’t pull the trigger and a big strikeout right handed reliever is Riley o’brien. He takes over and he has a tough assignment. Aaron Judge, best player hitter in the American League going on , hit to right field. A base hit a little dunk shot off the bat of Judge Motoring to third is Grisham and the Yankees have something going here, one out runners at the corners down a run 4 to 3 top of the seventh. Here is Bellinger Bellinger drive that in the air to center. Grisham will tag here’s church in his major league debut. Loading up, firing home. Not in time as Grisham scores. It’s a 4 to 4 game on the sacrifice fly from Cody Bellinger judge advances to second and we’re all square in the seventh. Jazz two walks swing and a miss got him to chase that slider the back foot slider and o’brien gets through the inning. So Weaver gets the call to face the Cardinals here in the bottom of the eighth inning one out and Jordan Walker will be the batter swing and a miss top of the zone strike three on walker two outs here in the eighth grounded to short backing up. Caballero goes the short way and just able to get Pozo who does not run well for the final out of the inning. And now it is Jojo Romero pitching in the top of the ninth inning getting this left handed lane. He’s going to face Caballero, Grisham and Ben Rice high chopper to second. He throws it away. Caballero going to scamper to second and he is there on the E four and the Yankees now set up in the ninth Grisham showing bunt and he gets away from Pozo and Caballero is now at third as the go ahead, run a swing and a ground ball to the first baseman Burleson steps on first and Abro was not going on contact. He’s at third with one out and Stanton coming to the plate. Stanton is coming to bat for the first time in this series as he played the outfield at Yankee Stadium with the size of this outfield elected not to play him inside ball. Four A B the next pitch Lowe two balls and no strikes on judge just doesn’t feel like there’s a good choice. They’re going to walk him now. They are. They’re going to go ahead and put him on the bases are loaded for Cody Bellinger hits that hard to the right side and it skips the hit to right field. Two runs are going to score judge to third. The Yankees lead. It hit 64 in the ninth. Oh, my goodness, that was, that should have been eaten alive by Burles in the first baseman. Couple of runs score and the Yankees have a 64 lead. What a break. One out runners at the corners. Who’s Chisholm that’s rolled slowly to, is he going to try and turn it into two? Just one judge scores the Yankees tack on another run and it’s a 7 to 4 game he’s on with two down facing Paul Goldschmidt lined into right field. That’s a base hit rounding third and coming home is Chisholm Goldschmidt into second with an RB I double Paul Goldschmidt returns to ST Louis and has a three hit day. It’s 8 to 4 Yankees two down. The Cardinals are down to their last out and here is Mason win. Here’s Pitt swing on the centerfield Gris right in his tracks, shielding his glove, shielding his son with his glove makes the catch. And that’s the ball game victory for the New York Yankees 84. They sweep here in ST Louis, their first sweep of three games since beating the Mariners back in July and their first road sweep since early June at Kansas City. What a great win.

  4. The Cardinals accouncer said judges fly ball to right center would be gone in yankee stadium when its 385 to that part of the park in yankee stadium and the Cardinals is 375. Not very good math from them.

  5. What the ownership and management has done to the Cardinals should be criminal.. They have completely destroyed this team… I still love my Cardinals and will always support them.. Been going to see the Cardinals since the early 80s.. It is time for new ownership and management..

  6. Bad fielding, bad umping, wild pitching, wild swings. And what's with Boone wearing a hoodie in 94-degree weather? Fashion statement or just an id.iot?

  9. Look at those empty seats. A lot of Cardinals fans have moved on to other things. I want to thank the Cardinals ownership and front office for a job poorly done. It's hard to win games with only 1 starting pitcher on the team.

  10. Thank you Mozeliak, for being so cheap you let a former Cardinal NL MVP and future HOF'er (Goldschmidt) leave the team instead of meeting the free agent market price to keep him in StL.
Just goes to show Cardinals fans how badly you've been disrespecting and treating players that every one of them who leaves has way better than average comeback years.
