Things Just KEEP Getting WORSE for the Padres…

Things just keep getting worse for the Padres’s as an embarrassing performance on most sides of the ball from these players have led to utter disappointment, embarrassment, shame, and other words that are negative. Let’s talk about it. Hi, welcome back to another episode of Padres’s Digest with your host Andrew. Today we once again are miserable. I’m upset. I’m not mad. I’m just glad it’s over. I’ve gone through the the five stages of grief already through this series and I don’t care anymore. I don’t care. It’s clear that it’s clear we’re not good against the Dodgers. We’re not right. It’s just like I said yesterday, there’s a mental block. There’s pure anxiety and it’s not from our entire team. Honestly, it’s our star players who have this mental block because obviously they were there last year, but we’ll talk about it more in a bit. But you Dodger fans, I’ll give it to you. You came in with a goal. You achieved that goal by beating the ever living piss out of us. So, you know what? Full fair play to you Dodger fans. You earned this sweep. Padre fans, I am sorry. Clearly, the dugout is not watching my videos, and they should be because I would inspire the entire locker room with my heroic, always right, just amazing analysis brain. I would I would be the best bullpen or the best manager of all time. Just saying. That’s just me. I’ I’d get them up. I’d light some fires on their butts, but they don’t they don’t recognize my talent. And that’s okay. We’ll get there eventually. Also, apply if you haven’t yet. Apply. Uh, but yeah, let’s just jump into the game. I I’m Listen, half the comments on the video yesterday, this is the yesterday’s video was the most commented video we’ve ever had, like 100 plus comments. I swear to God, half of them were Dodger fans and like 25% of them did not follow the rules and use the designated hate comment that I established. So, listen, can we try to at least out comment Dodger fans? Padre fans, just please just all I’m asking. Let us have one victory. Oh, Dodgers five, Padres’s four. Padres’s entered the weekend sole possession of first place. That was fun. Remember that? I remember that. They leave LA trailing by two games having lost the season series and the head-to-head tiebreaker rematch next weekend at Petco Park. I’m not looking forward to that. I’m not looking forward to that at all. LA hit homers. San Diego did not. No clutch this weekend whatsoever. Terrible and embarrassing. Flush it and get back on track this week because I don’t ever want to think about this weekend again. This and the last time we played them and got swept by them, which I think was lit, literally the last time we played them. Just awful, awful, awful. But let’s not get too deep into it. So, I know people might blame you Darvish for today’s game, but I forget or I forgot and now I remember that classic Darvish is lowkey sucks the first inning and then settles down and becomes really good, right? So, got to respect you Darish for locking in after a shaky start. D settles down and completes and competes unlike Dylan Case who couldn’t even get through four innings yesterday. But yeah, I mean obviously not the best start for you Darvish. the home run Freddy Freeman sucked and then the home run off or uh was it Pah? Yeah, Pah with a home run. Honestly, I was so pissed off. I turned the game off again and I switched the radio because like I couldn’t bear to witness what was happening. But then I calmed down and used my uh my brain instead of my overly reactive heart and it was fine, right? I mean, he did a better job. Five trackouts isn’t bad, especially against the Dodgers who have obviously a good offense. But I mean, it sucks, right? Obviously, we wanted to see Darvish like dominate and keep us in the game. And I guess relatively he kind of did, but still four runs is a lot of runs. I mean, obviously like we should be able to score more than four runs, and we kind of did, but I don’t know. I mean, you let’s put it this way. U Darish wasn’t the reason we lost, but he didn’t help. Let’s put it that way. That’s the best way I can put it. Uh, but yeah, moving on. Talk about Rammon Lauraniano, who is our best player by far on offense. has four homers in his first 15 games as a Padre. He’s hitting .327 and I’m pretty sure it’s gone up because this was when he hit the home run and a 1.038 OPS. Padres’s have cut the deficit 42. Ramon Lauraniano by far is our best player on offense and it’s not even close. And I’m so happy he has a club option next year because we should absolutely take that 6.5 million club option because I think he will be worth the money. I like Roman Lauraniano. I don’t love his defense in center field, which is what happened when Jackson Merrell got removed. I haven’t seen anything about it yet. I think he rolled his ankle yesterday and it’s probably the after effects of it. Uh but yeah, I mean, I don’t love Lauriano in center field, but we don’t really have many other options and Gavin Sheets in left is fine, right? So Gavin Sheets took a spot, played left field, and he didn’t do too bad, right? So Gavin Sheets and Rhino Herd need to play every single day. They have proved they can hit lefties, too. Play them. And I agree. I think Gavin Sheets having a career year is being squashed by him only having what, eight at bats before today’s game the entire month of August. I think that’s just crap. I think it’s embarrassing. And I think it’s worse and we’ll talk about it later, but I think it’s horrible that our best players are our bench players. Like no, I mean like Ara and Tatis didn’t have bad games, right? But they don’t they never come up like clutch. I mean Tatis had three strikeouts. I don’t want to call it a good game, but Arise actually had a good game, right? Machado, Patis, Jackson Merrill, our supposed best guys are playing absolutely horrible against the Dodgers. It’s it’s just apparent. It’s disgusting. It makes me sick. We’re paying all this money for players who just can’t seem to perform against a single team. And it’s such horrendous bull crap that it actually annoys me. Our bench players are literally carrying this team. Ryan O’Harn who’s technically a bench player according to Mike Schill. Gavin Sheets with a relatively good game to be honest. And Jos Glacis coming up clutch. Like our bench players are making this team. Our seventh hole hitter Lauriano is our offense. He’s literally our offense at least this series. So cool. Cool. Right. And we’ll talk about Mike Schill in a bit, but Mike Schult genuinely needs to realize that what we have working right now or what we have right now is not working. He’s not going to do a single thing about it because he, like I said yesterday, is ride or die for his players. He’s going to make it work or he’s going to die trying. And I think that’s such stupid, horrendous bull crap. But what do I know? I’m not the manager of the Padres’s. I’m just some guy on YouTube. Someone I had to delete this comment yesterday because it was like really mean. But this guy, how easy with the guy? This person commented, “Another fat pig on YouTube who’s talking about professional athletes when he’s not one.” And I was like, “What the hell? I don’t need to be a athlete to see how horrible we’re goddamn playing.” But okay, bro. Don’t be mean to me. At least like come on. Like I I don’t mind the uh the comments, but like at least keep it like semi-respectful. You know what I mean? But whatever, right? Uh but yeah. Uh words can’t ah yeah, this is what I was talking about. Uh, words can’t describe how frustrating it is to see the new guys being the only ones that seem to want to beat the Dodgers. What the flip? It sucks, right? And then talk about our our star players. Tough to complain about Manny because he’s had a great season, but he’s been awful this series. Padres’s likely win game one if he catches that pop bunt and he can’t come through on offense to give them a shot today. And obviously, there’s that one at bat where Manny got absolutely screwed on ball four. The umps were horrible the entire season. genuinely on both sides like Otani got off on some things that Ferm mean bump which was clearly a strike but he pulled it back but it was like a strike on both sides they were horrible so like at least they were consistent consistently horrible for both teams that’s why they’re getting the pass right they’re like not a great pass like I’m keeping my eye on them I’m mad at them but like I was gonna say something but that’s messed up let’s just say we’ll let them give the pass I don’t even want to say what I was thinking Uh but yeah uh yeah Manuelado rest of the team and the star players not great right I mean there are some good performances but overall a one good performance from our star players isn’t going to win us many games we need our star players to play like star players which might be a hot take for the Padres’s for our star players to play like star players but what do I know I’m just a guy I’m just a non-athlete talking about athletes uh okay but yeah Mason Miller why would you. Okay. Yeah, this pissed me off a little bit, not going to lie. But Mason Miller, why would you go to your closer nay fing of a tie game? Why did you even trade for Miller if not in this situation? I don’t understand some of Schultz’s decisions at all. So, at first I was like, okay, Suarez is coming in for the ninth to keep the game tied. And then I was like, wait, we’re the away team. That’s not how that works. And I just why? You know what I mean? Like what? Like genuinely, if you think about it, Wararez has literally never pitched well in a tied game. Literally has never pitched well in a tied game. I like we traded our entire like ecosystem in the prospect world for these players, especially for Mason Miller. And like I know he pitched two days ago, but like why? Why? I I’m sure the guy has enough dog in him that he could have pitched the eighth inning and then we could have gotten for Suarez in the uh the the close. Yeah. You know what I mean? The ninth inning. The bottom of the ninth inning. My only thought process is that Chil wanted to save Miller just in case we went to extra innings. That’s my only thought I can really give. But feel like it’s smarter to guarantee a win. And I mean, also, I guess in Mike Schulz’s defense, Robert Suarez is a professional pitcher and one of the best closers in the game, which I know doesn’t look like it sometimes, but he is. And you expect him to make pitches. But yeah, I mean, and Mookie, the pitch wasn’t horrible. Like, it wasn’t horrible. Like, it wasn’t middle middle. It was like middle uh in like it wasn’t great, but it wasn’t horrible, right? And fair play the Mookie Bets. He got on it and he smacked it out. That’s just baseball sometimes. And it sucks. It’s stupid and I hate it, but it’s baseball, right? So, I’m a Mike Shil fan, but that’s a really tough weekend from a managerial perspective. Made lots of interesting decisions and most if not all backfired. Sucks. I think genuinely what it is, and this might be a really stupid take, so yell at me if you think so. I think Mike Schil tries too hard. I feel like Dave Roberts like he has a certain tactic he like does against us and other games. I don’t know. I don’t watch him. I only watch him when he plays us, right? I think Mike Schil tries to be Dave Roberts too much. I think he sometimes overmanages games and it’s it’s I don’t know. It’s like it’s confusing. I don’t know if it’s right or wrong. It’s just like he looks at the stats and he’s like this is the best thing to do at this moment. I’m going to do it. This is the best thing to I just feel like I don’t know how to describe it. I just feel like he I wish he had a better sense of the moment and a better like feel for the team and the situations. Like I don’t know how to explain it. I just feel like something isn’t right and a lot of the decisions he made today were or just in general this weekend were highly questionable. I mean there were some good ones, right? Like Eacius for Croninworf. I know Croninorf has the iconic moment against Vessia, but he’s like one for 13 lifetime against Vessia. So the Glacius was a good call, right? I’m not saying that wasn’t him playing DH the first two games wasn’t. But him coming in at that moment was a good idea, right? I’ll give you props for that. But a lot of these decisions this week have just been icky, icky, icky. But I’ll let you guys debate that one. But yeah, uh, no, did that one already. So, there are plenty of reasons why the Padres’s are going to lose or possibly get swept this series. One of the more underrated ones, IMO, the do Dodgers ability to punish mistake pitches and the Padres’s inability to punish them. So, yeah, a huge thing we’ve talked about this year is we have zero slug. I heard on the broadcast that we have the lowest percentage of runs scored through home runs. So like we’re we scored the least amount of runs off of home runs in the entire league. So basically we can’t hit home runs. I mean we can but it’s very rare. I mean like our best players haven’t hit a home run since like two series ago or something like that. I think Machado has like one RBI in the past like two series. But the Dodgers, they punish good pitching. We reward bad pitching. I mean, look at Kershaw. Game one. Kershaw obviously great pitcher, right? I’m not saying he isn’t, but he wasn’t even that great that day. We just let him look like prime uh Kershaw. Like I this team just doesn’t know how to attack good pitching, I think. And that’s one thing I hate about Arise. And I know I keep bagging on a rise, but I hate when he just watches a strike go by that’s clearly in the strike zone, but then it’ll swing at the most dog crap piece of crap, I don’t want to say bad words. I’m so sorry, pitches I’ve ever seen. And sometimes they work out, right? Sometimes he got hits. Like he got three hits today. Some of them are awful, but like I wish you would swing at pitches that are inside the strike zone. Like that might be a hot take for the Arise stands, but I wish you would take better swings at better pitches. And sometimes Tatis watches pitches that are super down the middle. I remember Bogart’s watched a pitch right down the middle because it was strike one. I just like when your enemy makes mistakes, punish them. Don’t just let them get away with it. And I feel like it was so disheartening, too. Like we clawed our way back to tie the game and then to see them hit a home run immediately was such a gut punch. Like we just climbed Mount Everest and on the top your big brother just kicks you down the mountain, starts you from the bottom. It’s like you’re playing Peak. If you ever played Peak before, it’s like that. You made it to the very top and then your friend flips you on a banana peel and you fall down and die. That’s what it’s like. I’ve never played Peak, but I watch streamers play. But yeah, if you get the reference, you get the reference. It It’s It just sucks, right? Uh but then finally, I saw this could very well see the series sending them into a tank and miss the playoffs altogether. No, they’re basically going to make the playoffs. It’s all about what seed we’re going to get. They gotta wake up and if they want anything better than a five or six seed, I think it’s like I think it’s a the percentage was like an 80 something percent chance we’ll make the playoffs. I think we’re going to make the playoffs, right? Let me find some wood. There’s some wood over here. Knocking on wood over there. I think we can. It we would have to go on like a 10ame losing streak to basically lose our spot, but if anyone can do that, it’s the Padres’s. So, I don’t know. I don’t know. I mean, I think we’re okay. Our biggest problem is just overcoming these mental barriers. But I do want to say this. I don’t remember if I have the stats on here. No. So, the home and away records for the Padres’s and Dodgers are like relatively similar. Obviously, we play better at home and so do they and then they play worse at away and we play worse at away. So, if by that logic, this is full copium, 100% full copium, uh we should sweep them at home. We’re not going to, but we should. I think we if we at least get two wins at home, I will be happy. If we can at least win the next series, I will be happy, right? But again, even then, and again, this is going to sound super uh little brother, baby boy of me, our overall goal shouldn’t be defeating the Dodgers. And like, if we don’t win, if we don’t win against the Dodgers, fine, right? Let’s win against everyone else. When the playoffs happen, anything happens, right? Obviously, we need to get over that mental barrier by the play or during the playoffs or I guess by the playoffs, right? We got to get over those mental barriers because we’re gonna have to face the Dodgers at some point. It’s probably guaranteed, right? Unless through some like seeding miracle. I don’t know. Maybe I Let’s Let’s put it this way. Let’s just let’s just decide right now that we’re probably going to play the Dodgers in the playoffs. Got to do something about it. We can’t just let our bench players play better than literally everyone on this team. We just can’t, right? It’s not It’s not going to happen. It’s not how we’re going to win games. It’s not how we’re going to win the World Series. If you want to win the World Series, especially for Peter, especially for the city, especially for us, you need to step the freak up because right now, star players, Manny Machado, looking at you guys, you’re not doing it for us. Sorry to say, I love you, but you’re hurting me. This is a toxic relationship, and you are hurting me. Okay. Was that all the pictures? Yeah. I mean, we can just look over it one more time, but just not a great game for us star players. Like I said, bullpen wise, everyone was pretty pretty good. Uh, Estrada did look a little shaky, but does his thing, gets him out of it. Robert Suarez, you hurt me. I still love you. You’ve pitched better, but you hurt me. I mean, he had do he did have two strikeouts, right? So, the home run was like the worst thing that happened that inning. So, it’s just bad voodoo magic. Now, we’re two games behind. Let’s just hope they get swept by whoever they’re playing next. I wish it was the Angels. It’s not going to be. And let’s just hope we can continue to play good against the Giants. I didn’t realize Robbie Ray had a negative or a sub three erra, but I I think we did good against him last time. I already forgot. But Nester Cortez, do your thing. Win some games. Let things happen. Sorry again for the super long video. You know me, I have a lot to talk about when it comes to these Dodger games. Uh but yeah, I was thinking of doing a podcast episode talking about the results or like the uh uh what’s the role I’m looking for? Uh god, whatever. The after effects, I guess, of the playing the Dodgers. I don’t know if you guys want to see a whole podcast of that. So, I’ll think of more stuff to do. But yeah, thank you guys so much for watching. Let me know how you feel about today. Do you think the Dodgers are our daddies, our big brothers, or do you think we just let them off the hook and we’re still better than them? Do you think that uh I don’t know, Ud Irish is a good pitcher? Do you think Robert Suarez is a good closer? Do you think Mike Schult’s an idiot? Let me know. I want There’s a lot of things I want to know from you guys and I’m super curious. So, let’s make sure we have more comments from the Dodger fans cuz they’re going to come in droves today, y’all. Droves. Okay. Thank you for watching. Go Padres’s. Not.

Today, Andrew is glad it’s finally over and glad that we can move on from this hellscape that is LA, please start winning more games now…

  1. Machado and the madres dont need the choke spanked out of them by the dodgers, they do a great job choking themselves 😂😂 madres got more choke onbthier game tgan I5 traffic at 4pm 😂😂

  2. Hey, you wanna trade ball pens anytime pal swore is in the eighth. I don’t think he pitched the series swear is the eighth if you get to Miller in the ninth Miller seems to be your closer so sore is in the eighth pretty simple man dodger fan here will take Suarez anytime you guys wanna give him up

  3. Clearly, you don’t have many thoughts, pal what’s the difference? The game is nine innings long if everything goes well you’re gonna need Suarez and Mason Miller flip-flopping who cares

  4. You have a point about the new Padres being less afraid of the Dodgers. Laureano and Fermin had good series. Not so much Cease, Merrill, Tatis and most of all, Machado.

  5. Padres fans 3 days ago: 1st place! Division is ours!

Padres fans today: the division doesn’t even matter anyway, we beat the Dodgers in 2022 without winning the division

    😂😂😂

  6. At this point it’s mental. Dodgers were ice cold going into that series and the Padres were scorching hot, yet the Dodgers played inspired baseball and the Padres were flat for most of the series. It’s time to take down that 2022 Wild Card banner, it’s embarrassing.

  7. Hard to act surprised about how things turned out. Padres had that prey animal energy again. They need Andrew to go into the locker room to tell them what's what. Schildt sure isn't ripping into his guys for being losers.

  8. majority of padres fans arent even fans. especially the reddit fans, some guy was like "I could have sworn that iglesias had way more homeruns" like uhhh do you even watch?😂

  9. The American story, the Padres. The bully story, the Dodgers. Nobody likes a team that wins it all the time. That’s in any sport. Folks like the small story.

  10. Did the Dodgers break the padres after last post season?
    Specifically tatis.
He went from wagging his tongue and laughing at dodger fans to being quiet and doing nothing all series.
    The man is broken.

  11. Adjustments need to be made to the lineup, for sure.

Arraez needs to DH and lead off. That was a winning formula last season, what are we doing? He’s not even a natural first baseman.

Tatis needs to be bumped down. Leading off never suited him, they are trying to make him our Ohtani and it just isn’t working. He lost all launch angle trying to adjust to leading off, he historically needs a rally to be going in front of him to feel any sense of motivation. He likes being in the position of cleanup with all eyes on him. He clearly sees leading off as a downgraded role. Bump him down.
Yes, he is a diva, but he’s our diva that needs pampering to perform, we gotta do whatever it takes to get him going again.

With Arraez DH, make O Hearn permanent first base. Arraez has been solid, but O Hearn is an all-star first baseman who can hit home runs. He needs to be a daily piece of the lineup.

Seems like Shildt is still holding on to his faith in the OG guys, and doesn’t want to push them out of the way for the new guys so soon. Even Suarez going out for the 8th for a non-save situation. WHY!? That’s 100% a Miller situation, then see if the offense answers back in the 9th, and THEN send in Suarez to maintain the tie or get the save.

  12. Honest question: are most of you fans since 2020? Let’s be honest. Padres haven’t been relevant since 2006 and had horrible horrible dreadful years where there was dysfunction and impossible to follow. I remember as a kid 98 with Tony Gwynn winning the World Series but after that another downturn. From an outsider, I think you guys have long term contracts on the books so you can have players and memories that can carry over for years to keep the fandom alive for years to come that before your organization wasn’t doing. I’d be genuinely curious how deep your guys fandoms have been 👍

  13. Padres don't have any swagg or identity and my Dodgers are living in their heads rent free. And it's not like all 3 games were not winnable for the Padres. They could have won any three, they were close. But thanks Padres for self-destructing 👏

  14. Look at the bright side. We are exactly in the same spot we were a week ago. Only 2 games behind 1st place in the west and within striking distance.
