REKAP: ⚾️ Chicago Cubs 7-0 loss to Milwaukee Brewers. ‘They take on personality of the manager!’
Welcome into the recap of the Cubs getting their head kicked in in game one of their dayight double header. Part of a fivegame series that began today at Wrigley Field against the division leading Milwaukee Brewers. I’m David Kaplan. It’s brought to you by our great partners at Winrust. They are the exclusive home of Cubs Checking. Click that QR code that’s on your screen or winterest.com/cubs and get your very own Cubs checking account. They got punked today. That’s exactly what happened. You want to talk about a lifeless club right there. That team is lifeless. You see no enthusiasm and they feed off the personality of their manager. I’m not telling you Craig Council is an incompetent baseball guy because he’s not. He’s a smart baseball man. But there’s absolutely no fire with that guy and there’s no fire with that team. They look lost at the plate. And look, Kate Horton was the starter today and I was excited to watch him pitch. We’ll get into that in a moment. This recap’s also brought to you by our great partners at Tasty Trade. Stocks, crypto, futures, options do it all at tastyrade.com. I was excited to see Kate Horton because he’s pitched so well since the beginning of June. Unfortunately, he couldn’t last three innings. Not because he got battered about, because he had a finger issue and they had to pull him. He lost his command. He couldn’t get any type of spin really uh on a biting breaking ball. And the next thing you know, the Brewers have a one- nothing lead. Brewers get a two nothing lead. The Brewers get a three nothing lead. And then they went to the bullpen. They tried to hang in there, but they couldn’t get anything done offensively. They had an opportunity. Freddy Peralta walked the bases full. Owen Casey came up, worked it to a 3-2 count, and swung in a pitch. I know he’s a rookie, but it was that far outside. That far. And he swings and misses. They get a fly out. Inning over. And that was really the only time they threatened to score in the ball game. Let’s get right into this. how the Brewers turn the trick to take a ninegame lead in the National League Central Division. First of all, Brewers got a home run from Bryce Terang in the third. It’s one- nothing. In the fifth, Caleb Durban homers to center. It’s two nothing. In the sixth inning, Joey Ortiz, an infield hit. It was a throwing error by Luke Little. It was literally a little dribbler with two outs and he flips it to first and it goes right by the first baseman. Was not a good flip and down the line run scores. 3 nothing Brewers. And at that point, the way the Cubs are swinging the bats, 11 of 16 games in August, they’ve scored three runs or less. Inept, awful, awful offensively. And then in the eighth inning, Joey Ortiz with a hit that drives in a run. Bryce Terang with a hit. That drives in a run. Caleb Durban with a hit. That drives in a run. And then a wild pitch brings in Ortiz. Four more on the board. 7 nothing. And that will be all. Absolutely an awful performance. Let’s look at our Hooters winging it. Starting pitching matchup. Freddy Peralta. Six innings, one hit, no runs, six Ks, three walks. ERA on the season. now down to an awesome 2.78. And then they finished it up with their bullpen for the Cubs. Kade Horton two and two/3, a four hit, one run. It’s earned 3K, one walk. The one home run was the solo home run. The only run that he gave up. Pomearan’s an inning and a third of scoreless relief. Rogers went an inning with a hit and a run and two Ks. Luke Little, two innings of one hit, one run, unearned, but it should be earned because it’s his own error with four Ks and two walks. And then Hollowell was awful in two innings. He gave up three hits, four runs, all earned, two Ks, and four four walks offensively for the Chicago Cubs. Two hits going into the ninth. Two hits down 7 nothing. They got a hit from Suzuki early in the ball game and Owen Casey got a base hit, his first career hit. They’re in big trouble, folks. That team looks dead. That team looks lifeless and they’ve taken on the personality of their manager and that is absolutely a big problem. Our look ahead brought to you by our great partners at Studio41 home remodeling showroom studio41.com. They get another game tonight with the Brewers and then three more jump on the plane Thursday night and fly to California to take on the LA Angels of Anaheim. Not good. Nine back. This team, as I said, dead in the water. They look horrible. Take that.
The Chicago Cubs continue to go nowhere offensively after opening a huge 5-game series at Wrigley Field against 1st place Milwaukee. The Brewers took it to the Cubs, coasting to a shutout win and extending their lead to 9 games in the NL Central. The Cubs had just 2 hits, a season low and Cade Horton left his start with a blister on his middle finger. Kap says this team looks ‘dead’ and that they take on the ‘personality of their manager.’ Craig Counsell has no answers for a team that is under .500 after the All-Star Break. Owen Caissie did record his first MLB hit.
Take That!

Why did they get rid of Ross who as a player help win them a World series and he also love this team doing these few years I still don't understand
The value of all those Cub 2025 bobbleheads are sinking fast. Forget about selling them for $80 on eBay.
Have you paid that guy the 100 bucks back he gave you earlier in the season on your bet of 90 wins was it?
What the F happened to the home runs??? Feels like months ago. NO, it IS months ago! Apart from Busch and Shaw nobody hits it out anymore, here or on the road. This team really sucks! Even if they get in the Wild Card they are done. Can't hit good OR bad pitching.
Should’ve traded for Andrew Vaughn. 😢
Craig Counsell is a very dry human very dry i don’t see no life or motivation from the guy I personally think he doesn’t care he has his job secure he is making 8 million dollars per year so yeah it’s whatever with him so sorry to hear we just have a dead dry ass manager
Is this the same guy that says the bears are going to be better than the packers every year?
Man if I didn't know better I would have thought some fix of some type was in, but unlike the white soxs ball team with shoeless Joe Jackson no one got anything to gain from them losing, but maybe the owner.
Shout out to David Ross
It appears Counsell wasn't the missing piece for the Cubs' getting over the hump. It's the Brewers organization. Even Andrew Vaughn has been rejuvenated.
Go Bears!
Good thing the 2nd game got postponed. Could have been embarrassed for a second time in a day.
The Cubs keep playing like this, might miss the playoffs.
It’s like these guys are not even having batting practice, The Cubs better get their act together very soon!
I'm glad he's in Chicago now!
Counsell is not a leader. He doesn't hold anyone accountable. He doesn't fire anyone up. He cannot relate to anyone. Period. End of story. Two monumental collapses two years in a row. God I miss Joe Maddon. and if "Jedders" had any brains, he'd be on line one with him saying and doing anything it takes to get him back here as manager, because this manager and this current team ain't it. The AAA youth is our future. And who is better than anyone with them? Joe Maddon. Counsell needs to be fired.
BREWERS OWN YOU 😂😂😂 TAKE THAT !!!!!!!!!!
Upper management didn't do s*** at the trade that line.So the players don't give a s*** and a manager.Don't give a s**So guess what fans quit going to the games?Show them that you don't give a s***Then when they can't pay their salaries.Maybe they'll do something with this club or sell the f***** team.Because obviously ricketts doesn't give two shits
Cubs were fortunate the rain moved in because their bullpen was about to be obliterated.
Keep going to games Cub fans. Keep paying the monthly extortion fee from Marquee Network. Keep filling the pockets of the Ricketts family. They don't care. They are rolling in money. You fans are rolling in misery. Keep it up!
Ol Jed got a new deal for doing jack!
5:26 I'm so thankful Gordan Wittenmyer isn't part of this REKAP show. Time to return my W flag to storage. 😢😢😢😢
Completely Useless By September…..or is it August?🤣
I hope Counsel don't start Eberflusing things around us!! I'm getting angry!!
Maybe Steve Martin can come up with a new song about our King Tut! "Now when he was in Houston, he never thought he'd see … People fill the bleachers to see his sorry swing."
Thats right they are decomposing right in front of our eyes. We seen this coming and nobody stepped up, nobody added on. No reason for Kyle Tucker to remain here or any other prominent players to come here as well.
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. Counsell’s press demeanor is HORRIBLE. He sounds and acts like a perturbed cat who got caught in mid-sh1t. WIN OR LOSE. SAME THING. And it looks like they absolutely did become a reflection of him. They’ll be outta the postseason picture within a week of Labor Day at this rate.
Glad the 2nd game didn't play. HAve to see the massacre tomorrow, though
Craig Counsell is a bad manager remember he got the Brewers into the playoffs 5 times a 4 of those times despite having a top 5 offense and the best pitching and best closer couldn't get them out of the first round!!!
Counsell is a joke. I almost didn't even watch the game today because I already knew what was going to happen. SMH.
This is a .500 team and always has been. variance has now kicked in. They just ran hot in the first half, but math don’t lie.
And now they bench Tucker. When they may as well bench 95% of this line up if that's the case. 😂
TAKE THAT
He's Buck Showalter JR.
The Brewers rest their players, and the Cubs do not bottom line. Horton injured his finger because he was overworked early in his career, and when you are overworked early in your career, little injuries happen. No calluses built up on his pinky; equally, a blister. Rest is the difference between the 2 clubs. Most of the Crew’s starters are on a pitch count to save them for the playoffs.
Cubs' MVP of the game: Rain
I’d be shocked if the Cubs won a game this series
