[Morosi] Manny Machado told me he pointed into the Padres dugout after his 3rd inning home run to thank Yu Darvish for the hitting advice he’d shared before the game. Manny said Darvish is one of the smartest teammates he’s ever had.

4. Having Yu on the team reminds me of when we had old fat Greg Maddux. Absolute pitching wizard and baseball genius and one of my all time favorite Padres.

   Bought an away brown Darvish jersey after his performance in the NLDS last year and still stoked with the decision.

5. Glad Manny is open enough to listen. Always a good skill to have that many “captains” lack.

6. Love Manny’s measured responses, while his enthusiasm comes through. Talked up Sheets and the fans too when asked. He’s grown into a really fine leader.

7. The Darvish extension pays off more than just him making starts and pitching. I hope he becomes a coach/front office figure for the Padres in the future.

11. I said yesterday in the game thread it looked like he called his shot the way he was pointing and laughing at the dugout.

    There was also a good shot of him and Yu talking once he got back in the dugout.
