What Samuel Basallo’s $67M Deal Means for the Baltimore Orioles Future
The Orioles have locked up top catching prospect Samuel Basallo with an 8-year, $67 million extension, the largest pre-arbitration deal ever for a catcher, and Orioles writer Andy Kostka of the Baltimore Banner joins the show to break down what it means for the franchise. From the growth of Baltimore’s international pipeline to the ripple effects on Adley Rutschman, Gunnar Henderson, and Jackson Holliday, we look at how this deal reflects ownership’s trust in GM Mike Elias, sets the tone for the Orioles’ pivotal offseason, and could mark a turning point after a disappointing 2025 season.

Good deal for Orioles
MMMMM…."Surprised that they haven't worked out long term deals with the young core of O's." Dude is a joke and isn't considering who is repping some of those stars. Mr Boras!!!
I’m a bit puzzled. What are the O’s doing? They are playing at home…..they just extended one of their best prospects to a 8 year contract extension…….and they don’t even have him in the lineup for tonight’s game??? Perhaps there’s a reason but what a missed opportunity. Do they even have a PR team?
He locked in generational wealth for his family. Guys playing catcher can get hurt or have bad knees. I’d say it was a smart and fair deal. If he’s still great at 29, he’ll get a MASSIVE contract.
