Lets hear it

  1. Either no Buch for Rangers legend Sammy Blais or no Mac + JT for Rangers legend Libor Hajek and whatever the fuck else.

I’d probably pick Stutzle over Laf or Seider/Boldy over Kakko, but whatever- none of that is a sure thing. On the other hand, Buch was already very productive, JT was on the cusp of popping off, and Mac still had some good years left in him.

  2. heh – it’s either the Buchnevich or McDonagh/Miller trades. They both sucked.

  3. The Buch trade is the clear pick for a trade.

On the draft front I won’t say passing on Laf for Stutzle because nobody even Ottawa would have done that.

There’s a pretty stark one when you think about how bad the pick they made was. Imagine if instead of taking “NHL ready” Lias Anderson at center, they took Nick Suzuki or Marty Necas? That would have affected a lot of later moves that had to be done when Lias was a total bust and we were light at center. Or Robert Thomas in the same draft.

  4. I mean this is pretty low hanging fruit considering the Buchnevich trade has been so disastrous it’s basically been a family tree of nearly 20 other roster moves to either try and fix it, or using the money from that trade in disastrous ways.

You can EASILY argue that trade doomed this entire core that’s now been taken apart when you see the type of players brought in with the money post trade and the entire box worth of band aids to fix it

  5. Keeping Girardi over Stralman. I will die on the hill we win a cup with this change.

Edit: I see now this was 11 years ago, but it still bothers me.

  6. Its just over 10 years but trading Carl Hagelin (2x cup winner carl hagelin, that is) was the beginning of the end of the hank rangers. They should have traded nash—i said it at the time—Imagine selling high on nash off a 42 goal season. The players AND cap space for him would have made the team SO heavier, tougher & deeper. ciuld have kept stralman. No need to trade McD. Maybe Miller matures sooner w extra playing time. Who knows. All i know is Carl Hagelin was a better player (at the price) than rick nash

  7. McDonagh probably would’ve been the perfect partner for Fox lol. Dude to this day is still one of the best DFD. At least he got a few cups down there

  8. McDonagh and Miller for me. McDonagh was a true captain, stalwart defensemen that brought a steadiness to the entire D corps and obviously a winner.

  9. I would go back and trade the 1OA pick for a kings ransom and make that team pay any salary we’d need.

  10. McDonagh trade, for sure. The Buchnevich trade would be second, but people always forget that we couldn’t afford to keep him and had to trade him. We didn’t have to trade Mac, and we certainly didn’t have to include Miller with him in the same deal.

  11. Signing trouba AND trading Pionk for him in the process

    Girardi over stralman

Giving Staal a similar contract as Girardi

    Mcdonagh trade was ASS

Trading Zucc for 2 2nds was also pure ass

Forcing Georgiev to be the “next backup we would trade high and get a couple 2nds for” at the expense of Georgiev becoming a complete asshat of a goaltende, a bitch of an individual, and eventually forcing Hank to be the 3rd goalie on the roster. I will never forgive Gorton for this

Gorton is responsible for pretty much all of these moves, he was AGM for quite some time before sather stepped down. The more I’ve looked at his tenure, the more I’ve realized he was SEVERELY out of touch with the reality of the roster we had

  12. I know the Buch trade is gonna be the most popular pick, but I think for me it’s the Mac + JT deal. I don’t know why we let Tampa fleece us every fucking time we decide to make a deal.

Honorable mention/hot take: trade the kakko pick. The 2019 draft was kind of weak all things considered, but with the benefit of hindsight, I’d just trade out of it for picks and prospects.

  13. Buchnevich trade, hands down.

Everyone in here talking about the JT/Mac trade… the whole point of that trade was to make the team bad! We hoped the prospects would pan out, they didn’t. That happens. JT said the trade was a wake up call and he’d never be the player he is now without it. McDonaugh is such a good defenseman he’d will the team to the 8th playoff spot even if the team was trying to tank. And no one could have predicted he’d be at this high a level this many years from now.

The Buch trade handicapped the team when it was GOOD and caused like 20 other moves to try and fix the gaping hole on the right side. All of which also failed and depleted our prospect pool for the exact moment we are now in: A retool.
