  1. Dk i respectfully have to disagree with you Nutting won't fire cherington he has saved him too much money that's what Nutting hired him to do.

  2. a new Gm means yet another rebuild and even lower salaries do we as pirates fans want to go through another very long rebuild no thank you I don't like Chumpington but i don't want to see another long rebuild.

  3. As a corollary to the "they can't hit" proposition. As much as I like Reynolds (the Pirates main hitting star) this is his 7th season. His bWar by year 4.2, 0.5, 6.0, 3.0, 2.4, 3.6 and 0.5 for this season (less than Davis 0.8). A total of 20.2 or about 3 War a year and he's our main guy. What does that say about the rest of this sorry offense?
    Side note: He finished behind hitters Alonso and Tatis in 2019 NL ROY voting.

  4. Who of any quality would want the job knowing that their hands will be tied by Nutting, not to mention that payroll is likely to go down even further next year due to the decrease in attendance? I am thinking unfortunately that Ben Cherington will return in 2026.

  5. Isn't Ben Cherington doing exactly what he's told? Why would you fire a "yes man"? I would believe that Ben wants to work for a winning team. Taking this job is career suicide. He has nothing to show to a future employer now. Zero.

  6. I just filled out the form yesterday to officially opt out of renewal and have now given up my seats and my tickets for 2026. Literally ANY other use of my leisure time and money is better than devoting most of my summer weekends to this clown car of a front office and the team they put on the field.

  7. I'd love to know what your scout friend thinks of Oneil Cruz having been identified as a building block, a center piece at shortstop and now in center field. Have a great weekend, DK.

  8. Hi, DK.

    I will offer you my perspective on Mr. Nutting and how he hires GM's. My take is almost entirely different that yours. I hope you don't mind. Here it goes.

    1- Mr. Nutting does not look for a bona fide candidate that knows baseball;
    2- Mr. Nutting looks for and hires GM's that can create, continue, develop a new five-year fallacy;
    3- Mr. Nutting wants to continue creating five-year cycles that create the illusion of wanting to get better and win;
    4- Mr. Nutting wants to keep people talking about the future (The neverending future, that is);
    5- Mr. Nutting wants people to continue looking at the player or players in the low minors or the Dominican that will look great five years from now;
    6- Mr. Nutting wants and needs a GM that knows how to talk about metrics;
    7- Metrics is always a great topic of conversation that keeps fans focused on something else;
    8- Mr. Nutting knows exactly what he is doing…, and is a master at that;
    9- And, yes, Mr. Nutting has almost completely taken my love for the game away from me;
    10- It is a shame how Mr. Nutting has almost singlehandedly "destroyed" what was once a very serious, and entertaining baseball franchise.

    In my opinion!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. I read a while ago that Reynolds would tail off as he approached age 30! Now I know that predictions are tricky, but maybe this person was a scout. It doesn't matter though it was just a projection.
