  5. Can someone explain to me why the run counted? I thought that a run on the third out didn’t count.

  7. So, I like diving into numbers. And yes, the Cardinals starting pitching rotation has by and large not been good enough to be a winning team. But our offense has also been pretty inconsistent, and weirdly different for each of our pitchers. We also have some pretty large home/away splits, including one of the weirdest I have seen for Mikolas.

But – one thing that makes the team not feel all that exciting is that we very often pair up bad offense with our bad pitching. We have lost what feels like a very large number of blowouts. For example, for Sonny Gray, some of his worst starts have also been games where we have barely scored.

A 7.27 ERA when we score 2 or less runs…that’s a recipe for a blowout. (The really weird thing with Gray is that the key number of runs in his good games is 3 – 5…if we score more than five, it’s also not exactly prime Sonny).

  9. I heard “Dr. Edward Feser” and wondered if they were bringing on Dr. Edward C. Feser, the Catholic philosopher.

But they’re actually bringing on Dr. Edward F. Feser.

  12. This might sound crazy but I think Masyn Winn is trying to play long enough to get the gold glove. He looks like he’s in a lot of pain with that knee. I’d be surprised if they don’t shut him down soon. He is too important for the future. This year is toast.

  16. I feel like ‘approach over swing’ is what we need Jordan Walker to do as well. We’ve tinkered with his swing to hell and back, but the issue is approach/pitch recognition as much as anything now. Maybe we need Gorman to work with Walker in the offseason to see if we can get Walker back on any sort of track.
