Lakers governor Jeanie Buss and president of basketball operations Rob Pelinka attended Luka Dončić and the Slovenian national team’s final practice before his EuroBasket tournament begins on Thursday in Poland, showing the organization’s full support for Dončić’s participation.
“We just wanted to make a statement to Luka that we support what he does for his country. That’s really important to the Lakers when we have a player that’s the face of our franchise, just to show that support for him,” Pelinka said. “And it’s just great to see him with his teammates, interacting, having fun. As you said, he is in great shape, really committed to working hard this summer, and to be able to watch that in person was worth flying over the ocean to come be with him.”
Dončić, who has been preparing with the team since signing his three-year extension with the Lakers for max money on Aug. 3, said he had lunch with Buss and Pelinka earlier on Tuesday and was appreciative of them being here.
“It means a lot,” he said. “It’s a long flight. I think it’s like 11, 12 hours, so it means a lot for them just to be here to support me.”
Lakers assistant coach Greg St. Jean, who was also with Dončić in Dallas, is working with the Slovenian national team this summer.

Like they give a shit about him as a person. They are just money and power hungry, and willing to hop on a long ass flight for it. If Luka averaged 10 and 5, they would not be doing that. He could be 2x as more likable, and 2x as good of a guy, and they still wouldn’t show that support for him as a person.
