It wasn’t that he couldn’t beat Moore, so much as Moore was useless on the right, the one he couldn’t beat on the right was Fautanu
He had a pretty good preseason, so hopefully that’s a sign of things to come.
The part in this write up that makes me wonder who wrote this is the “Unable to unseat Moore Jr” line. From my recollection, Dan Moore Jr couldn’t play RT, so they forced Jones to play it. The Steelers seem to love to play talented O linemen out of their natural position it seems… except DMjr for some reason.
The rest of the league is furiously scribbling in their notebook as we developed the left tackle of the future by playing him at right tackle for two years
Couldn’t unseat Dan Moore is not how I would phrase this.
Dan Moore couldn’t / wouldn’t play RT. So as a rookie when chuks stunk, he took over at right. Then last year, he didn’t get a chance to compete with Moore because fatanu got hurt, so he had to play the right side.
I thought he looked good his rookie season, but took a step back last year. He seems like a good kid and the raw talent is obviously there.
I’m cautiously optimistic.
I think him being pushed into a position he didn’t exactly know what a huge deal.
I do think this is his year he has to do something, though. He does have the physical ability but for me, he has to stop doing dumb shit like unnecessary penalties and mistakes as well as perform competently, which I think he has the physical tools to do.
If he keeps racking up self forced errors, that’s a sign he just isn’t the guy.
Jones was pretty good as a rookie and then immediately fell off when asked to switch sides. Hopefully a couple years in the league has given him experience he can bring back to his natural side and prove why we took him in the first
“Couldn’t unseat Dan Moore?” Moore either couldn’t or wouldn’t play right tackle, so Jones went there.
You guys are going to be really upset when you realize that the left/right thing is an excuse from the player and management for drafting a first round bust.

He just has to be good enough to get the job done with the help of chips and TE. We dont need him on an island or anything.
Ultimately, this is the correct “x-factor”.
Fatanu was also a question mark due to injury concern, but seems to be really excelling in camp and preseason. So really jones at LT is the only question mark on the line right now. It’s nice that they have Darnell as a potential aide for Broderick on the edge if needed.
It’s also going to be nice to have a quarterback that will get rid of the ball on time. The most infamous Broderick penalty was caused by Justin fields rolling out of a protected pocket and putting jones in a terrible spot (the Denver game).
Don’t do that. Don’t give me hope.
Jones definitely worries me from the o line stand point especially being on Rodgers blind side
Excited to see what the excuses are for him when he’s still ass this year
Blazing take
From watching all of his snaps in the preseason, he still has some of the same issues in his technique ( or lack there of) as when he was drafted. Still likes to drop his head ( which ALL Georgia Olinemen do).
Pros: Very quick to his set. Long arms help in redirecting players. Moves very well.
Cons: He has no sand in his pants. What worries me the most is that when bullrushed, he ends up in the QB lap very fast. He also lacks technique. When drafted, he was very raw ( i.e. no technique). 3 years in and still pretty raw,
I do predict he will be the weak link on the Oline. Washington will have to line up next to him when they play Cleveland and the Bengals.
Good point but there’s never just one… What if a season ending injury to TJ, or a handful of big play guys.. what if the offense struggles to get moving for the first 5 games… list goes on. To me it’s more game by game. Baltimore is looking so good on paper….but it’s the AFC North. I hope the O-line comes together and we can get a solid run/pass block combo…. Rest of it will work itself out as long as we win as many North games as possible.
What about the shitty Oline coach? Wasn’t he terrible elsewhere before we brought him on?
Moore wasn’t experienced playing the right; and rookies typically fill needs over established players.
