Did The Edmonton Oilers Get Better This Off-Season?

The Edmonton Oilers made plenty of moves this offseason, but the big question remains: did they actually get better? With Andrew Mangiapane added to the top six and Evan Bouchard locked up long-term, the Oilers doubled down on their core while looking to inject more speed and skill into the lineup. At the same time, they said goodbye to veterans like Evander Kane, Viktor Arvidsson, and Corey Perry, leaving questions about depth.

Tyler and Coomzy break down changes from the summer, whether the Oilers’ roster is stronger heading into the 2025–26 season, and if management did enough to support Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl in their pursuit of the Stanley Cup.

What position do you think the Oilers still need to improve?

  1. For me the team is slightly better offensively but physically they are weaker, and that is what will hurt them most – especially in the playoffs. They did get younger, but lost experience and that will hurt them also. What will hurt the Oilrs most is goaltending – all the best teams have Top half goaltending, Oilrs are bottom half in goaltending

    Howrd replaces J.Skinnr
    Mangiapan replaces Perry
    Savoi replaces Arvidssn
Tomask & Q Hutsn have some upside

  2. Corey Perry shot at 19% last year. The year he won the hart he shot 17.2% and his career average is 12.9% He is not doing this again.

  3. Here is the reality, last year with Perry, Skinner and Arvidson they were already at the height of their potential. All we could ask is they do as well as they have before. Now we have a bunch of young guys that have a much higher but unproven potential. It also sets us up for the future years, so we are much better off now than we were last year. Yeah new goalie would be fun, but lets see what the new coaches do. I think its pretty easy to say Savoie and Howard will each get 15 goals, Mangi and Freddy I imagine can do more as well.

  4. Oilers should have traded draisaitl for a kings ransom. Friendships be damned. Vegas won a cup by being asshats to their players. Its not ideal but your goal is to win the cup. Everyone outside of your bubble knew this was the play and it didnt happen.

  5. No I am afraid it’s all down hill, oilers lost more than they gained, same crappy defence, same crappy goaltending hands are tied no cap room for anything

  6. Many of the key roster players are now a year older and very likely on the decline. Injuries- especially ekholm – can be huge negatives.

Lots of young players with little to no nhl experience that have to deliver. That’s a big gamble.

This year is very likely the last best chance at a cup for years.
