Mitch Marner says family safety was a factor in Maple Leafs exit

So why not wave your no trade clause if you were so concerned?
But it wasn’t just the on-ice disappointment that weighed heavily on Marner. Minutes after returning home from what he suspected might be his final game as a Leaf, he received a disturbing phone call from his father-in-law.
“He goes, ‘I just want to let you know we’ve got people sending us screenshots of a guy posting your address online, saying if people want to come pay us a visit and say their goodbyes in a quotation way… here’s the address,’” Marner recalled.
The leak of his personal address and subsequent threats prompted Marner to hire full-time security for his home for two weeks. The winger, who welcomed a newborn son earlier this year, said the situation became untenable.
“The market’s very passionate… they love their team… I know it, I was born and raised there,” Marner said. “But when your family’s safety comes into question… I don’t think it’s acceptable.”
Marner admitted that the negativity on social media had become overwhelming, often drowning out the support he received from fans.
“Having full-time security at your house for two weeks after the playoffs, just to make sure no one’s coming around… even worrying about the safety of walking your dog and your child. It’s unfortunate… but, yeah, we all deal with this stuff sometimes.”
So you moved your family to the US. Hockey players are so intelligent

Well if he left years ago when he should have this wouldn’t have been an issue. Dork
People will be extremely normal about this in this thread
Yeah, when they mentioned they doxxed him online. It was very easy to see why family safety became part of the decision making. He had a pregnant wife and a baby on the way. Never mind people were vandalizing his property by throwing trash on it.
Nothing he’s saying is a lie. For some reason, fans can be fanatical. (The irony is not lost on me)
… and anyone would do exactly the same thing if they had the means. People move out unsafe places all the time and that’s ok. Even people without means try to get out of unsafe environments.
He had to go regardless, should’ve been gone 2 or 3 years ago. The way this Marner saga ended was really bad man
I’m unfortunate this happened but Marner also has a very long history of refusing accountability for his own actions and this is yet another example. He doesn’t want to be hated in his hometown so needs something to blame.
Lets post about this daily. Then proceed to complain about how terrible Leafs fans are. Then proceed to complain about how every conversation needs to be about the Leafs and their players even when said player is no longer a Leaf.
It’s funny when people especially Marner who is a massive loser thinks he’s important enough that the average person is gonna actually go out of their way IRL to hurt him for no financial gain or anything.
Yes there are crazy people in the world and you never know but dude why is this even worth mentioning. You play hockey for a living you make millions, yes it’s important to raise awareness for stuff like this but brother this is just pathetic.
Jeez. What happened to happy smiling old Canada where you don’t need to lock doors and what not.
The same fanbase that treats booing Tavares as a crime against humanity lol
Bullshit, he was already out the door when these horrific threats happened. No excuse for unhinged behavior by gambling addicts, but him trying frame this as a reason why he left is historical revisionism. He had already created a toxic atmosphere by that point.
Doxing Is already illegal, but maybe we should just move the team out of Toronto to be safe.
William Nylander riding subway to rink begs to differ
POS
This isn’t going to be any different in Vegas sadly.
It may get worse seeing as the gambling community is bigger there
