ASTROS POSTCAST: Houston Astros Bounce Back In The Proper Way Against The Colorado Rockies

This is the Astros Post, your instant game reaction for the Houston Astros, part of the Locked On Network, your team every day. [Music] After forcing everyone in the city of Houston to watch bad baseball to start the series uh on Tuesday, the Astros tonight went ahead and decided to play good baseball and get some big swings and get a great outing out of Frer Valdez and bounced back the absolute perfect way that they had to after such a terrible loss. And on a day where the Seattle Mariners already won to keep their lead in the American League West at a game and a half. Hello and welcome this evening to the Locked on Astros post. This is what you’ll be talking about. I think the biggest thing from this game tonight, we’re going to get to Yordon’s big swing. We’re going to get to Cam Smith having a big swing that he absolutely had to have. It is from Valdez pitching like Framber Valdez is supposed to pitch. Granted, yes, they did all of this tonight against the Colorado Rockies, but again, they lost to this team and I to go and you can only play what’s in front of you on your schedule. They needed Fromber to come out and pitch like an ace. And Frober Valdez gave you that tonight. He reminded you that he’s not completely useless sometimes like he has been of late. Seven innings of shutout ball, no runs, three hits, or of course no runs with shut out ball. Very nice my me. Uh, five strikeouts and two walks. Picks up win number 12 of the season. 3-18 the erra now on the year. Brian King behind him with a scoreless inning. Uh, a Bray was already hot. They go ahead and use him. I get it. Might as well. Um, probably won’t use him tomorrow, but who’s we’ll see what happens with that. uh you cross that bridge when it gets there. But Frober is the biggest piece out of this because if this team is going to find its way deep into October, there are there’s like one thing if I look at this baseball team. Now, of course, you could always come back and go, well, they got to hit. They don’t hit consistently enough. But they this team would have no chance in October without Hunter Brown and Framber Valdez basically going out there and being aces every single time that they pitch. That’s the only chance this team’s got to get deep. It’s not impossible to to get through it without that. But like I’m talking getting deep and going to another World Series. That is what it’s going to take. and he Fromber has to get back to being right as to what he typically is instead of the guy that he has been of late. I love the change up usage tonight. As always, his curve ball is electric, but the biggest thing with a curve ball tonight was that it was located properly. He could use it against anybody. He had command of the zone tonight. his sinker was doing what it does, getting guys to ground out, getting in on right-handed hitters, making lefties look foolish. I mean, he is just when he is right, and he is the the the the number one like hot button topic whenever it comes to Astros baseball over the last few years with people. And for the life of me, I will never I will never understand the amount of hate that that man gets. I just don’t get it. He’s great. Why do people hate somebody that’s great at what he does? It’s just stupid. Yes, he can be frustrating. Any pitcher can be frustrating. It happens. But when he is going, there might not be really anybody in baseball that is more capable of getting people to look foolish at the plate and basically do nothing. His pitches move maybe better than anybody’s pitches in all of baseball. and on a nightly basis, he can go out there and just absolutely dominate people. That’s the guy that everybody loves. That’s the guy that the Houston Astros, of course, need. And that’s the guy that showed up tonight. And that’s the guy that’s going to have to show up for another what, what’s he going to make, four or five starts the rest of the season? Probably more than that. I don’t I don’t have a calendar in front of me. Uh I’m trying to find it’s going to be probably five, six starts down the stretch. Five starts, whatever. Four starts. Don’t ask me to do math. That’s not what I’m here for. I just do other things. Um but they have to have that guy down the stretch of this season because I’m sitting here talking about October and getting deep and all those things. Yeah, they’re going to get to October. We know that they want to be in first place in the American League West and win the division and host in the wild card round because here’s the unfortunate truth for this baseball team. They are likely to I wouldn’t say likely, they’re going to end up being a wild in the wild card round probably playing Seattle and you’d rather do it at home. you just would you could still play the Yankees or the Red Sox, I suppose. But I’m going to go ahead and bet that we just get Astros and Mariners in the wildard round. And Frober’s going to have to be Frober because he’s going to pitch one of those two games. And even if it’s they’re in Seattle, he’s going to pitch one of those two games. He’s got to be that guy. So, we’ll see how that goes. The other things tonight that were big were some swings for a couple of guys. We’ll talk about those here in a brief second on the Locked on Astros postcast. Winner winner chicken dinner for the Houston Astros tonight as they take down the Colorado Rockies by a final of four to nothing. Holding on to their lead in the American League West at a game and a half over Seattle who won earlier in the day. The Astros of course will wrap up this series tomorrow day baseball 1:00 against these Colorado Rockies which will be with you when the game wraps up tomorrow as well like we were today. Jason Alexander are going to go for the Stros tomorrow against Kyle Freeland. So hopefully the Astros can pull that one. They have to. You can’t lose a series to Colorado period. Good signs tonight. Two big swings and actually we’re going to go ahead and give these guys. This is the locked on player of the game. All right. So I’m going to cheat again and I’m going to give it to three guys because I’m going to mix Fromber in there because he gave you seven shout out. From Cam Smith and Yordon Alvarez. All right. Let’s start with Cam Smith first cuz he hit his homer first. He had to have that. I mean, this guy has been so bad. His play time is starting to dwindle, which is understandable. The Astros are in a pennet race here and you can’t play guys that are um you know, not hitting the baseball and just been downright terrible at the plate. He’s great defensively, but man oh man, it’s been a struggle to watch this guy hit at the plate in recent days. And sometimes it just takes that one swing of the bat to get your mind right to put you in a spot where baseball starts, you know, starting to look like a beach ball again when you’re going well. Hopefully that’s the spark. We know all the work that he puts in. We know how hard he works when he shows up and all that. You know, they have to absolutely get something out of him occasionally or he will get to the spot where he’s just not going to play down the stretch of this regular season and then into the postseason. And we all want to watch him play. He’s always got that big smile on his face. He’s enjoyable to p to watch when he’s going right. and he’s a key part of this Astros’s future. And he had gotten so hot and he was playing so well before this, you know, slump came on and then it just, you know, it happened. And then there’s Yordon tonight. The big fella is officially back. I mean, first of all, he has gotten the Barry Bonds treatment in this series. The Rockies pitchers are literally wetting themselves every time he comes to the plate. He’s walked what, four times in the first two games. And they’re really not throwing anything near the zone to him at all. Uh was he two walks tonight? Yeah, two walks tonight after two walks the night before. And then of course finally they throw him one, which he loves to do. You cannot fool and he’s going to miss some of them of course, but like if there’s one thing we know about Yordon Alvarez now at this point of his career, change ups down and away. You’re not going to beat him on those. And for some I know that that’s the typical way that you beat lefties. You throw a change up down and away, get them to swing over the top and make them look foolish. Jordan has insane ability to sit back on it and to not get duped by it. And he did it again tonight and just rocketed one to deep center field. I mean, it just felt right. Right. It did. I absolutely loved seeing it. It’s great to have him back. His presence alone. And I do think that, yeah, look, they’ve been unbelievable at the plate in this series. No, they scored one run last night. They scored four tonight. But I think give it time. You get him hot, which he’s going to get hot, guys around him will start doing the same. And maybe, just maybe, the Astros can show signs of being dangerous at the plate consistently instead of sporadically. That’s the hope. One can dream if he wants to. I don’t know if he’ll play tomorrow. I’d imagine they’re probably going to give him a day off tomorrow. um because you know he hasn’t played a lot recently and it’s a day game after a night game. They gave Aluve the night off. I’m sure obviously Alt will be back in the lineup tomorrow and I’m guessing that Yordon gets the day off. We’ll see if any other regulars maybe Kareah gets a day off as well. We’ll see. Um somebody’s in a DH too. So there is that. When the game wraps up tomorrow afternoon, of course you can join me right here for the locked on Astros postcast. probably in that what four to five range tomorrow somewhere in there. Um so don’t be a stranger. Come on by and say hello. You guys have a great rest of your Wednesday night. We’ll talk after the series finale between the Astros and the
