Utah and UCLA going off on Saturday night. Utah went five and seven last year for head coach Ken Whitam in his 21st season. The youths returned 17 starters from last year. Bad luck for quarterback Cam Risy the past two seasons just could not stay healthy and they retired from football. Utah averaged 21 points per game a season ago with struggles on the ground and inefficient passing. They defended well holding teams to 3.9 yards per rush and 53% completion rate. UCLA 5-7 in 2024 for head coach Deshawn Foster. That was in his second season. The Bruins returned 10 starters. Bruins had poor offensive showing last season as they put up 18 points per game, 3.1 yards per rush for Clay was accurate, but not a big downfield threat here. Defense kept the Bruins in some games as they held opposed 25 points per game and only 3.3 yards per rush. Mexico transfer Devin Dampier, they’re coming over to Utah and will start. He completed 58 58% of his passes with 7.1 yards per passing, but he’s a massive run threat. Look at this. 1166 yards rushing, 7.5 yards a carry. I know Nika Lima will start a quarterback from UCLA. Of course, the the Tennessee transfer last year. 64% completion rate, 7.8 yards for pass attempt. No dampers running ability could break down this UCLA defense. The Bruins lost a lot on offense. Must piece together receivers and linemen transfers filled the defense. We’re going to go ahead and lay it here with Utah minus 5 and a half.
