Cubs vs. Rockies Game Highlights (8/30/25) | MLB Highlights
So, the pitchers should have their work cut out for them here tonight. Speaking of the pitching matchup, Javier Assad will tow the slab, as they say, for the fourth time. Meanwhile, McCabe Brown making just his second major league start. McCabe Brown, a normal Illinois native, will start for Colorado. Here’s what he did in the minor leagues this year. 247 erra. Bush is retired. Kyle Tucker left-handed hitting slugger playing in right field. Here comes the 3-2 and that one missed though. Quzone had it as a strike. Tucker takes and it’s ball four. So he catches a break. So a one out base runner. Sea Suzuki is the hitter. Line drive into center field and that’s a base hit. So, Suzuki scorches one to center and the Cubs have two on and one out here in the top of the first. Get him early before he can settle in. And now it’s Ian Hap who had three hits last night including a homer and a couple of doubles. Two on, one out. And Hap hits it hard through the right side and that’s a base hit. Clinton Barry is going to hold up Kyle Tucker and the Cubs in business. Base is loaded and one out. Warner, two for four. Couple of doubles as you said, Ron. Best batting average in the lineup. Swing and a ball drilled out towards right center. Doyle on the move and he’s there to make the catch. Tagging from third and coming in to score is Kyle Tucker. And that right center field approach works for a sack fly and the Cubs top one nothing. Hands pulled in. Big explosive puff of air as he delivers the bat to the ball. Let’s see if Pete Crew Armstrong can do a little damage. And that is in there. Got him. Cubs get one on two hits, leave two after a half. Cubs are on the board, leading one to nothing. Fourth MLB season for Javier. A 342 career erra. Two up, two down. Here’s Hunter Goodman now. Just getting started here at Kors Field. Line drive right field and Tucker will go to collect it. So Goodman a two out single. Ruer takes off and on the 3-2 it misses. And now there’s two aboard with two outs and Ezekiel Tobar on the ground to third. Castro will run to the bag, step on it. That’s the inning. No runs on a hit. A couple are left. Kelly is out. Number one. Dansby Swanson coming to the plate. Solid contact all night long. And here we go again. Speaking of solid contact, Swanson stays hot. Stolen base standing up for Dansby Swanson. So backto back hit batters. Now this loads the bags for Seya Suzuki. Swanson, Bush, and Tucker on the bases. That one back to the pitcher. Brown picks it up, throws him out, and the Cubs leave him loaded as we go to the bottom of inning number two. One down for the Rockies and warming Bernabel coming up. Sevengame hitless streak goal for his last 24. This pitch is lying down that left field line. It’s a base hit. Forget the O for 24. All cut off by Haps. So holding at first base is Bernabel. Here is Yonio Fernandez who’s been swinging it back very well for the Rockies prior to this year. That’s a base hit into right field. Fernandez not stopping and the throw is cut off. And now Swanson. They get the tag there. Throw to the plate. There going to be some obstruction. I don’t think they’re going to allow that run to score. We’ll see. Maybe arguing. Maybe saying it’s just incidental contact. The Rockies get away with one there if this run scores. Just bad base running, but a poorly executed run down for the Cubs. You know, put himself in position to make a throw and a tag. Yeah, I don’t know. We’ll see. Yep. So, it would be considered incidental contact. Correct. Yes. And the Rockies have tied it up. Javier Assad working well so far tonight. He’s given up a run on three hits. It’s out number one. 01 to Tovar is lined into right field for a base hit. Tucker, who plays extremely deep, able to cut it off, send it back to the infield, but gets his second hit in the series, a one out base runner. Kyle Caros on the ground to short. Swanson to her to Bush. 643 and Jav’s got the ground ball pitch working at the end of four. It’s the Cubs one and the Rockies one. Tuck has walked and been hit by a pitch. It’s hammered to right and that one back. Freeman in. It’s over his head and off the wall and Tucker is to second and Kyle will stop there. It’s a double. Kyle Tucker pitch way outside. Cubs have something cooking here in the top half of the fifth inning. Made it first and second in half at the plate. No one out here in the fifth. Drilled to center. Doyle tracking back some more. It’s over his head. Tucker scores. It’s a rocket double to center field and the Cubs have the lead 2-1. Warren Schaefer out of the dugout and he’ll summon Jimmy Herget pitching change with seven straight scoreless appearances. One out, Warren Schaefer is going to intentionally walk Crow Armstrong to load the bases. Now you have the right-handed hitting Kelly. Line drive left center field towards the cat and Monia able to make the catch and the Cubs add a run. It’s 3-1. Castro retired. Top of the order. And here is Michael Bush. Fly ball center field. Doyle back some more near the wall and it’s off the top of the wall and Michael’s got a triple. Just missed getting it out of here. Well, we’ll see here. Bid for yet another course field home run for Bush. Comes up just a little bit short. Yeah, that ball’s behind him. Bush with his fourth triple. Line drive. Base hit right field. Kyle Tucker. Hush comes in and it’s 4-1 Cubs. Beat off man aboard here in the sixth for Colorado. Mickey Monia who’s at the plate. There we go. Highf fly ball deep center field to Mickey Clink one high off the wall. Coming home is Freeman. Mickey in the third with a triple. Four to two. We saw Brenton Doyle to center field and now Pete Crow Armstrong. He’s jumping up high and he came pretty close to being able to at least get leather on this. And he was close. Yeah. Now the tying runs at the plate. Outfield really deep. And this ball to center is going to make it a one-run game. And that’ll score the third run of the ball game for Colorado. And it’s a one-run game. Knowing the assignment, you want to get the ball out in the air to center field. There’s Nikki. Watch this stuff. Crow does. He was like, I got no shot. But if the guy falls over, you never know. They’ve cut the lead to one. Daniel Palencia on the mound trying to nail it down for the Chicago Cubs. Brenton Doyle leads it off. 3-2 pitch. And that is in there. Got him. And there’s one out. So Ezekiel Tovar now. Little roller up along first. Valencia puts the tag on it. How about that? Yeah, this ball rolling away from you is not easy. You see that pitchers mishandle that ball all the time. Danny Big thighs on the move. Great concentration. Very athletic play. Two down. Listen to these fans. Kyle Keros. Two down. Base is empty. Bottom of the ninth inning. Got him. Ball game. Cubs win a oneun win here at Kors Field. And the Cubs make it two straight. Big win here in Denver. They’re all big when you get to a certain stage of the season.
