[Jesse Rogers] Cubs notes: Owen Caissie is getting optioned for OF Kevin Alcántara, per source. The Carlos Santana signing will be official tomorrow. He’ll still be eligible for the postseason. And new pitcher Aaron Civale will pitch out of the pen.

  1. What was the point of calling him up if CC never had any intention of playing him?!! 24 AB over the course of a month, 8 AB on the road trip??

And now another young top OF prospect gets to sit on the bench.

I’m sure it’s these callups that are going to lead to the 2032 world title, though. 🙄

  2. Civale pitching out of the pen after asking to be traded when the Brewers wanted him to pitch out of the pen seems like it will work great.

  3. For those confused as to why Caissie is being sent back down it’s to keep his rookie time clock for next season active

  4. Caissie move makes sense since Alcantara can also be used as a pinch runner.

Don’t get the Santana signing though.

  5. I miss Davis Ross.

I’ve said it since they fired him…I don’t see Council as the wonder manager, it obviously wasn’t just him in Milwaukee or they’d be worse. They got better when he left for Chicago.

  6. They saw what Caissie can do and now they want to see Alcantara before the playoffs. Plenty of options left and pretty normal. You guys complain so much for a team that is positioned so well. It’s crazy.

  7. Cannot have both up at the same time, I guess

While it would be great to see more of Caissie, seeing Alcantara will be good too

Let’s see how much playing time CC gives him

  8. Not playing Caissie during a playoff/World series run and basically intentionally losing games by not playing him, because you want him to try and get Rookie of the Year next year sounds insane to me haha

  9. This time of the season when rosters expand and players get DFA’d/released across the league on mass is like Christmas for Jed Hoyer. A dumpster diver’s wet dream.

  10. Wait. You picked up Civale? So the White Sox really got nothing to show for Vaughn.
I like your Santana signing – good veteran pick up
