Braves vs. Phillies Game Highlights (8/31/25) | MLB Highlights
Jesus Luzardo, a good starter, likely to go to the bullpen. Luzardo is, you know, kind of position a right now. Is he going to stay in the rotation in postseason? He’s got that kind of stuff also could be a great weapon out of the bullpen. We’ll see how that plays out, but the Phillies have a lot of depth to be able to withstand the injuries that they’ve had to the rest starting rotation swing and a miss his whiff rate has gone way up. And a big part of that is that sweeper, both two righties and lefties slowly, slowly, the second base makes it look easy and a weak contact out is making it look easy, five pitches, five strikes and he’s going to get a weak grounder again to start in a 1 to 2 to 3 innings and he did it on 10 pitches to face this rookie Hurston Waldrip who has really gotten off to a fantastic start and he’s gone and that right there is a big reason why the Waltrip splitter is nasty. It really is. We’re going to talk about that splitter and how successful it’s been. Here’s the grip right on the head. Look at how over the top it is and how straight down the action is not a lot of side to side movement. Goodness that splitter nasty. This is a big waldrup the games. He’s rung up. The great numbers haven’t been against an offense like this. Harper went into the ground fielded Eastly by Alves and we have a one inning pitcher’s duel and that’s a big test pass by Hurston Waldrip here in Philadelphia one down as Albs flies out, swing and a Miss sweeper get nasty down and away swinging a ground ball up the middle turner to his left. He’s got it turns fires to first. It’s in time to get the Speedy Eli White. A pump here on the home stand one for his last seven fly ball towards right. Eli White drifting suddenly back to the warning track circles off his route makes the catch coming off the bat. It looked like it would be a routine fly ball, but he suddenly went back to the track and that was cause for alarm momentarily, but that stays in the ballpark and one down and strokes one in the air to center field. Michael A comes in lunges for it and makes a knee high catch spreading to his left and able to run it down and it’s a 123 bottom of the second good defense out there by Michael to the first base runner of the night and a walk and swings at the first one, a tough play and Waldrip will not be able to make it Bader. Got good speed, Waldrip. He kept his head up there with Bader bearing down on him and his 1st and 2nd Castellanos held. Schwarber comes up with the bases loaded, nowhere to put him and he got him. What a pitch. Another splitter, not one in the dirt ended up thigh high and a huge strike out for Walter Harper’s turn with the bases loaded. Harper up the waist to the bag is one by nick Allen. What a job by Waldrip to get through a bases loaded situation like that. Good battle here left on left 3 to 2 again to changeup this time at 89 we’re seeing all of it from Lizardo tonight. His fourth strikeout. You see lefty on lefty. This is advanced class right here. We know about the sweeper. The last thing Olsen is looking for right there is a lefty on lefty changeup has done really well and he can field it too. Jesus Lizardo. He has been outstanding here through four innings two down as Brandon Mars comes up to the plate. This one is this one cutter and he sailed it into the bleachers in his eighth home run of the year and the Phillies lead it 1 to 0 inside. Wald has given up the homer and now a walk is Bader on a short hop field. Nice play Alvarez Jr who makes the play next pitch, that’s a called strike over the outside corner. That’s strikeout number five for Luzardo, that ball is through the first base runner that he has allowed all night. Torres. He was recoiling. I thought he was going to ring him up but not the case. It’s ball four. And so they are two on with one out and Nacho Alvarez coming up , we have been perfect into this inning fishing on a sweeper, wicked pitch. He’s got half a dozen strikeouts and that’s a helper. Is it the inning? Is the pitch count? Is the traffic? What’s the issue here with Rosso in the fifth? And Luzardo shouting as he comes off the mound as he works his way out of trouble. Turner and Schwarber coming up lined in the right field for a base hit, softly hit, but it’s a single and his board to start the inning just going to put him on. That’s a pretty smart move by the Braves have to deal with JT and they say he went so he struck out another decent inning for Waldrip with that silly splitter of his. Sardo is now in the sixth inning. He’s got a good pitch count for 76 and a swing and a pop up center field Bader broke back. Now comes straight in for it. He’ll get there. He makes the catch, there’s one away, slow one hit right back to Jesus and he will have trouble gets. The out goes 123 in the six. It will be Bone Marsh and cast will end up getting to first base and that nearly got him. You’re getting swings and misses on pitches that are in the strike zone. A strike out of a sweater that’s got a lot of the plate, a lot of the strike zone and you still get one 102nd pitch and that is in there for strike three. Castellano is gone. Nine strikeouts here comes Brian terrific performance out of her and Waldrum nine strikeouts giving him a one run and five and two thirds of an innings working in the seventh inning. Heads to palm. It’s a fair ball at third, avoiding the flying shrapnel and getting a speedy that’s level difficult. He goes sky high as Lizardo continues to live the kitchen. Harris the other way that’s down. He’s thinking about two. He will stop though as that ball is fielded out there quickly and thrown back in by Marsh Losso could not get Harris. The lefty Thompson is clapping as he’s about to get the baseball and so will the 44,000 on his last start, he was ejected. There’s no dejection tonight from Lisardo in one of his best starts of the year. That’s going to be an infield hit against Oan Kirke who is now into the game as Ghan came in and he delivers an infield single and that one misses ball four has completely lost the command has no feel for it whatsoever. The situation is this new pitcher banks, one of the hitters in the game. Matt Olson bases loaded Phillies lead it 1 to 0. This one to ST is only one play and the game is tied on that ground ball to ST that brings in Bruja. It’s 1 to 1 move the runner in scoring position. Now left on left versus Baldwin who has never faced jose Alvarado. This one to left that Marsh back. He’s at the wall on Drake Baldwin exit stage left touch of all time and the Atlanta Braves in the ninth inning, have a 3 to 1 lead. Iglesias working quickly. He’s thrown nine straight strikes last chance to keep it going. Bryson stunned he swings and misses and that will do it. Iglesias to end it and the Braves shock the Phillies.

Big Homer by Drake tonight Go Braves

Great performance by both starters
Olson running back to the dugout faster than he ran to the bag is kinda funny. 😅
🎉 hey 👋🏼😊 way to go braves ⚾🧢
Baldwin ROTY
What do you mean " and the braves shock the phillies" . The braves can't win a game? Heck the Phillies took 3. The braves ain't that bad. Makes it sound like it was a huge upset 😅
Baldwin not playing the whole game or at least batting is just crazy! He's to valuable to be sitting!
Waldrep could be the futute!! Great win!! 😊
Snit needs to go and take Hyers with him. GET WASH BACK. And of course probably too late to get Kevin Citer back… that was a huge mistake letting him go. He wasn't the problem.
Thank you braves to not get swept
Day six of asking my favorite player Sean Murphy to reply to this comment
Go braves ! 🎉
Phillies had bases loaded with no outs and couldnt convert that to even a single run. That lost them the game.
Still spent the last three days getting bent over.. big whoop. Don’t wait until spring training 2026 to figure out how to score runs
Always feels good to go into Philly and steal a win.
16-13 in August. Weird how the Braves lost 19-4 Thursday night….score 4 runs each game of this series and we win it easy. Anyway, let’s go 20-5 in September and finish with a winning record!
Phillies 3-1 series and the score was 3-1 😂
Whatever dumb Braves Phillies go nowhere
Baldwin signature card needed in mlb 9 innings game this season
