SIXERS’ VJ Edgecombe CHECKS Paul George For Jimmy Butler Comparison!
PJ, I am so happy for you. You told Slam magazine, “I came to America to play basketball, to feed my family. I don’t want to be in the percentage that doesn’t make it out. I want to be the one who sets the standard.” Is it hitting you right now that you set the standard? Yeah, it is. It is. I know you see the emotions on my mama face. She work too hard, man. Man, them long nights. Long nights. I’m telling you, we lived I lived off a generator. I ain’t had no electricity. I live with a generator for seven years. Man, seeing what she had to go through. It’s crazy. Hello everybody and welcome back to the channel. Well, VJ Edgecom was the number three pick in the 2025 draft for the Philadelphia 76ers. And while I’m not a Philadelphia 76ers fan, I actually will be pulling for VJ Edgecombone. Um because this brother has a very interesting story and everyone around him from his coach in college to um you know the different coaches that’s coached him with world basketball and different things they always say he puts in maximum effort which I think this makes it the perfect pick for the Philadelphia 76ers which is such a blue collar gritty city. Now, recently he was on Paul George podcast. Um, and he was compared to by Paul George, uh, Jimmy Butler and, uh, you know, even said he looked like him. And listen, he had to check Paul George on that. Take a listen here. You got a lot of like Jimmy Butler to me. You don’t like it? I’m sure I’m not the first one to say it. You’re not. I got the play like Jimmy. I look like Jimmy. I don’t like it. They just start telling me I look like him and all. I’m like, “Bro, come on.” Now, I’m not going to lie. The brother do look like Jimmy Butler how regardless of how he feel. And he was also asked in regards to who does he see as far as his game like modeled after Olad Depot. He’s with the Pacers. DW I like that one. Currently in the league, I watch a lot of Ant. I watch defensive clips. I’m watching Drew Holiday, Derek White, Lou Th. I’m watching them just trying to learn both ends of the floor. Now, that’s that’s pretty smart to kind of get an idea on what both ends of the court is like. And those are good comparisons and it really stands out because Jay Bilis actually said something very similar about VJ Edgecom. He reminds me a little bit of Victor Oladipo at 19 and he reminds me a little bit of Dwayne Wade at 19. Now, obviously, those guys went on to be a hell of a lot better later on than they were at 19, but I think that’s the sort of trajectory that that that is possible for for BJ Edge. So, I mean, recently VJ was, you know, throwing out the first pitch at a Philadelphia Phillies game, getting acclimated. I do believe his um tough nose, like gritty style, super athletic, loves both ends, wants to do the dirty work, not just a highlight player. The boy can fly. I mean, he has he he he got a over 40inch vertical. Um and he definitely has the game on the offensive end, but he wants to be a dog. Like he mentioned even looking at defensive players in the league. He said he studies film on Lud Door like that kind of grittiness is going to be very much welcomed in the city of brotherly love. A city known for their grit, known for the toughness. Um so let me know what you guys think, man. Um I think he’s going to really shock some people. He gets a chance to play. Him and uh Maxi really got a chance to be an exciting back court. Let me know what you guys think. Be sure to like, subscribe, hit that notification bell. I’mma holl at you guys next time.
