August 29th, 2025 – Free-For-All Friday #63
The OB Hello, welcome free for all Friday campus. Kelly Moore, Kelly, how are you? I am well. Looking forward to my maiden voyage on a freef fall Friday. I free-for-all Friday. I’m Although with me here it might be a freef fall Friday. Uh but yeah, bring it on. 2047806868. Let’s get it going. Jets at Noon is brought to you by Wash Method Car Wash 690 St. An’s Road. the VIP call with the best Jets take. It’s going to win themselves a VIP car washer. My good friends at WashMthod 2047806868. The phone lines are open. We’ll announce the winner during the call later in the program which is coming at you live from the Boston Pizza studio for gourmet pizza and pasta. Uh bring the team to Boston Pizza. So we always favor calls on free-for-all Friday. We always do. That’s just that’s the rule on free-for-all Friday. But uh we take text messages as well. 204780-6868 204780 uh 6868. Can we get to some uh Go ahead, Kelly. I was just going to say the the rules of engagement it can it be just free-for-all or it can be a text message. Jets related though. Uh no. Well, so we get people call about the bombers every now and then. We like Yeah, it doesn’t have to be specifically about I’m thinking just a hockey, you know, national hockey leaguewide type of thing. Yeah. Well, hey, we got we got a call already. Hey. Hey, it’s Justin. Hey, Justin. Welcome to the show. Hey, Cameron Kelly. Hope you guys are having a good day so far. We are. How are you? We are now that you called. How’s your day going so far, bud? I’m I’m out throwing nukes again. I called last week with NHL rule proposal changes. I got another one for you. Okay. Uh so the I don’t like how the system is now with the current offside challenges. Usually the challenge only happens after a goal and no one really likes that. I propose that you know you know when those Jeopardy contestants they got like a silent clicker. If the coach had a silent clicker and he pushed it in real time and it couldn’t go beyond 20 seconds or a whistle. if you if he pushed that button and then a little yellow light would come up on the networks, it would show like, oh, this coach is challenging. Or behind the net, instead of a red light, there’d be like a little yellow light and the fans would see, oh, the coach is going to challenge this. It kind of eliminates uh an offside challenge wiping out a goal because they only have a 20 second window or up until a whistle goes, if that makes sense to you guys. Yeah, it it does make sense. What do you think of that, Kelly? I I don’t mind that all that at all, Justin. But what do you think about the idea of if there is a challenge after a goal uh that it h the decision has to be made uh no later than 30 seconds into the review because if it takes longer than 30 seconds then it was a really really close play. I 100% agree. Like you got to leave the referee’s discretion in there. You’re just you’re looking for something like a foot offside, right? That’s what you’re looking for. Yeah, that that’s the idea, right? But it’s see I you kind of lose me when it takes a minute, 2 minutes, 3 minutes, 4 minutes, 5 minutes to go over tiny little frames just to find that little sh that little shade of white. And that’s when you start to lose me on this cuz it’s it’s beyond what the reason Okay, the reason for bringing in the video review was to the blatant absolute missed calls to take to make sure that those goals were discounted. It wasn’t meant to be what it’s become. That’s why like I I like any idea that’s going to shorten it 30 seconds anything because I I I just that’s why I don’t like video review at all because it just it’s such a let down. It’s such a let down. you want to get it right. But when it t that game four versus Dallas, that entire Leonard Skard song played uh at uh American Airlines Arena and back in the day when we didn’t have computers, that song was long enough for us to either have a bathroom break or go to the back door and get our pizza delivered. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. Those I think those are the kind of situations we want to avoid. Correct, Justin? That’s correct. I I like your idea. Let’s keep it at 30 seconds and if it’s inconclusive, call on the ice stand. Yeah. I mean, we have to listen, we we trust the referees to make uh judgment calls all the time on the ice when it comes to this sort of thing. And listen, a lot of the times the linesmen are correct. Like most of the time they’re correct. Absolutely. And we just got to live. I just hate it when it’s a skate blade or literally a nancond. the obvious and I know it goes back to that Matt off side but uh you know those you can those you can make a judgment on I know but we’ve let that one instance totally affect the the National Hockey League to I I believe a negative extent. Thanks so much for the call, Justin. Appreciate it. Great call. Yeah, thanks a lot. Way to get us started. Holy moly, it’s all it’s loaded here. Let’s Hey, Neil, what’s going on? Hey, two comments. Juan, I am so sick and tired of the NHL insiders saying that every player we have is going to Detroit. Yeah. Well, you know, I think you know what I’ve of course I’ve seen these about Kyle Connor going to Detroit. None of this is even close to substantiated or coming from any sort of credible sources. Not not a single one. And the one person who did come out and say was Frank Cavelli um who yeah is an NHL insider. Uh but he had said something along the lines of I could see this which is far from confirming anything. I that’s not even a report. No. So anyway, give Connor 12 mil. The second comment is I saw a report that they thinking about moving up the NHL season. 100% guarantee. I don’t unless I have a dog in the fight in June. I ain’t watching hockey and I’m a Canadian 50year-old guy. So if you don’t if you lose me, you’re losing a lot of people. Okay. How they’re going to do that, what’s your name again? Neil. Neil. Yeah. I just wanted to make sure we were talking on first person perspective. How they’re going to do that is next year they’re going to shorten up the preseason schedule to four games. So, theoretically, the NHL season season rather should start a little bit earlier. Uh but they’re also going to expand to 84 regular season games. So, the the season’s going to remain the same as it as it is. And of course, you always have to remember in some of those Sunb Belt states, uh, they have high school and and college football that they’re up against. So, uh, I’m not saying that it’s the issue that it was 20 years ago, but it is still there, uh, for some of those other markets around the National Hockey League. And they are they are looking to start the season in September in 26 27. I think Bill Daly was just recently discussing that. I don’t know if they’re going to be able to finish it any earlier. Well, no. I I I that doesn’t come by two games. Well, exactly. Just by because they’re starting it in September. They’re not coming anywhere close to saying that that the Stanley Cup is not going to be played in June, which I think is going to be what it’s going to be moving forward. And you know, Kelly, I was talking to uh to Ed Garcia with Power 97 just down the hallway. And he he was talking about the Stanley Cup being in June. It’s been going on a long time, and I I was actually surprised that it’s been happening for so long, but this isn’t a new thing that has just started being in June. Oh, it’s I I can remember sitting on Grand Beach uh my first year in Winnipeg back in the mid ’90s and uh uh the the New Jersey Devils. I know they were involved. It might have been Detroit as well. They played into July. Yeah. So, thanks a lot for the call, Neil. Appreciate it. Yeah. Let’s uh Oh, let’s squeeze one more caller in here. Let’s go to Gee. Hey, Gee. Hey, guys. How’s it going? Good. Good. How are you? Good. Thank you. I heard a rumor that the bombers are charging a hundred bucks to volunteer. Do you guys know if that’s true? I have no idea. I have not heard about that. Uh uh we’ll we’ll certainly I uh make an inquiry about that. But uh yeah, that falls under the old heading of don’t believe everything you hear. And when you start with the rword and it’s rumor, not report, uh then yeah, I would put it in the proper context. Yeah, I’ve not heard that either. Yeah. Something about paid for the jackets and stuff, but I’ve done tons of volunteering over my lifetime and I’ve never been charged to volunteer. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I I do know there are circumstances and I’m not saying it’s with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Uh I don’t know if this uh applies to perhaps Grey Cup week, but we’ll we’ll ask around. There’s a lot of times There’s a lot of time Yeah. There’s a lot of times where people just want to be a part of it and they’re happy to pay $100 to uh to help out, but also be part of the activity. So, it’s not uh it’s not anything new. Anything else, Kee? That’s it. Thank you. Okay. Thanks, Ge. And uh yeah, we could let’s squeeze uh let’s squeeze Nick on here. Hey, Nick. what’s going on? Hey, good day, guys. Love the show. Thanks for calling. Yeah, you know, I’m just thinking the uh the playoffs, right? The rules just fall to the wayside all the time. All year long, they battle and they’re beat up. And then when it comes to playoffs, they they’re in the battle royal. I think that the rules should should be tighter in the playoffs because our guys are just beat to heck, you know? Yeah, Nick. Nick, you know what? I used to feel I used to feel differently about this and I was of the opinion it’s the playoffs, it’s different style of hockey. You know, you got to let certain things go and you got to call certain things. I’m more of your opinion now as as I as I kind of look at things. Um, look at how the Jets season ended in game six. Yeah. And all that was a call that had to be made. And so I think that part of the onus too though, Nick, is on players and coaches to adjust, you know, to the the uh level of officiating. Uh and and it’s interesting when if something happens to the Jets, you know, then there’s the idea, well, you know, gez, they should let him play. If it’s the other team, well, why aren’t they calling that? I think that’s a fair statement to make, is it not? It is. Yeah. And the referees also, this is there’s a human nature component to this where the refs, they don’t want to be they don’t want to influence the outcome of the game, especially during a playoff game when everything is on the line unless they absolutely have to make a call. They’ll blow the whistle, but they listen, a lot of people think, we hear this all the time, refs want to be inserted in the game, maybe in some way. I don’t know. I think I think that happens more in the first round. I think, and you may or may not agree with me, Nick, but I think by the time you get to the second through fourth rounds of the playoffs, there don’t seem to be as many instances of missed calls or let them go calls as there might be uh in the first round. You know, that Blues series, it was so brutal to watch our guys just get hammered every single day. Yeah. And that pace just simply can’t be kept up uh uh the deeper the playoffs go either. I think you see the hit totals go down pretty significantly. Thanks a lot, Nick. Appreciate the call. Thanks, guys. Yeah, thank you. 2047806868. Hey, that VIP car wash is still up for grabs, so fill up those phone lines. 2047806868. You bring a dynamite take. Not to say that nobody brought some awesome takes in that first little bit. Oh, I tell you, Justin, he was at the top of his game. Yeah, but we we still have that uh that avail that that uh VIP car wash rugged friends and wash method available down at 690 St. An’s Road. Let’s take a break. Let’s come back on the other side. Kelly, we discussed this um earlier this week. Nick Eers and the Jets the self the rental. Yeah. Uh decision. We got some feedback. Good. I want to hear it. We’ll talk about that when we rec when we come back. Don’t go anywhere at noon with Cameron Pitress and Jim Toth on 680 CJ OB. Call the Boston Pizza Jets at noon hotline. Open 24/7 204780-6800. Come in for lunch every weekday to Boston Pizza. Get a delicious main side and high school drink for only 15 bucks only at BP. The number one caller will be awarded a $50 gift card to Boston uh pizza. Um we’ll have an answer uh on the the caller was talking about the ghee. Yeah, Gee was talking about that. We’ll get we’ll we’ll have an answer for you when we come back after 12:30, but I want to make sure we have time to get this in here. Uh these were some comments that we received yesterday uh over the course of the week in regards to uh Nikolaiers and the Winnipeg Jets not trading Eers at the deadline to uh uh acquire uh assets on a player that it was unlikely at that time to resign with with with the Winnipeg Jets. even though I I I don’t think it was a foregone conclusion that he was going to leave at that moment. Um but u it it certainly seemed that way. It was skewing that one. Yeah. Yeah, that’s I think that’s fair. Uh so this uh this uh textter said the self- rental philosophy on Eers is shortsighted. Same if they do it for Connor. If a player doesn’t want to sign with your team, he doesn’t want to be on your team. Get rid of him. Don’t rent a player uh who doesn’t want to be here. Another texture said, “Sorry, you can sugarcoat it all you want, but losing Eers is uh for nothing is beyond stupid and in other markets would get the GM canned. Myself, if id moved him uh in the previous offseason uh if I wouldn’t get if he wouldn’t sign my best offer, Chevy likes to play uh uh he likes to play games to get guys on the cheap like Shley and Halabuk, but it backfired on him. Backfires on him half the time. Pure idiocy.” That one from the Colt 533. What do you think? Well, if the Winnipeg Jets had not made any attempt and as I understand uh they received the call and this was from Kevin Chevov verified by Nikolai Eers uh during his availability after he signed with Carolina that he made that decision the day before it became public knowledge. So, uh I I don’t know that the Winnipeg Jets felt they were out of it until they were officially out of it. And uh for the uh caller to say other GMs would get canned in other markets. I don’t have the information in front of me right now, but I I will go back and I I am certain there are other instances where teams have held on to their rentals because they were contending for a Stanley Cup. Uh and it just made no sense whatsoever to not have those players in their life. What players would be available? I mean, you Nicolaiers, you would be trading to a team that was going for the Stanley Cup and you’re not going to get equivalent players on on on coming the way back. So, what’s available is prospects and picks and a team that’s chasing the Stanley Cup and in first place in a President’s Trophy position at that moment isn’t going to be trading away a guy like Nick Eers when you’re trying to win the Stanley Cup. We’re not trying to sugarcoat it. I do not believe that is sugar coating. But if you want to if you want to say we’re guilty of that. Hey, we got some callers on the phone line. Keith and George. We’ll get to you right after this. Don’t go anywhere. Free-for-all Friday here on 680 CG. Jets at noon brought to you by Wash Method Car Wash 690 St. An’s Road. VIP take on the text line or by call 2047806868. Want a VIP car wash from my good friends at Wash Method. uh as we’re coming at you live from the Boston Pizza studio for gourmet pizza and pasta bring the team to Boston uh pizza and uh Ghee came uh was on the line just recently talking about a uh a charge for great for great voluntary he had mentioned it was a rumor and we you know we said well report but and again this has been out there for a while so I apologize for not remembering right away me as well uh on the volunteer page for uh the Grey Cup Festival. Uh it outlines that there is a registration and fee of $100 plus GST uh to offset the cost of the volunteer package. So if you’re going to volunteer for Grey Cup week and you’re going to hit the commitment of a minimum of four shifts uh uh throughout the festival uh most of those shifts four to six hours. Yes. Then you are going to pay $100, but you’re going to have lots of memories and a lasting legacy with a volunteer package. Yeah, without a doubt. So, thanks thanks for uh for uh reaching out about that and getting that information out there. Let’s go to the phones. Let’s bring uh Keith on the show. Hey, Keith. What’s up? Oh, hey guys. Love your show. Um Keith, I just wanted to ma make a comment. I think one of your previous callers, Nick, was mentioning about the refs calling the game different in the playoffs than than the regular season. I think I got to agree with that. When when you look at some of the analysts as we get closer to playoffs, they all start talking about how certain teams are built for the playoffs. Well, how can you be built for the playoffs and not for the regular season if the game is called differently? And I guess my concern is that the size of these guys and the speed of the game, somebody’s going to get seriously hurt if they don’t put a stop to some of these huge hits and dirty plays. Well, the difference I think is, and I’m not necessarily disagreeing entirely with you, but when that that comment comes out about built for the playoffs in that short window of two months, the game is definitely played differently. And the Florida Panthers are the pollster boys for we don’t play in the regular season like we play in the playoffs. And that’s not dirty, that’s hard. Yeah, I I guess they’re they’re, you know, with trying to get those maybe harder big hits out of the game so guys aren’t getting injured. I remember years ago when Scott Stevens used to play Oh, wow. Yeah. Wow. Yeah. Scott Steven. Yeah. He wouldn’t be He wouldn’t be allowed to do what he did. And And the other thing I just want to throw in there, too, you know, it’s not all just uh uh earthshattering hits. You know, there’s heavy hockey and there’s physical hockey. And you that heavy hockey that uh involves prolonged battles along the boards and the amount of energy and fortitude that it takes to win a puck battle, that’s all part of it, too. And you don’t necessarily see that at the same level during the regular season. No. Yeah, you’re right. And and the other I guess one of the other comments would be try to get though that tippiness after the whistle in the playoffs. They’re they’re all trying to draw a penalty, but when when you get guys like Wilson poking guys in the face and sticking his tongue out and everything else, they should be calling that to get that out of the game and and not try and draw penalties. It would stop it pretty quick. Yeah. If they called them. Okay. Hey, Keith. Thanks a lot. I appreciate the call. All right. Thanks, guys. Yeah, thanks for calling. Uh, let’s go to George. Hey, George. Well, it’s always good to have royalty on the show there with Mr. Kelly Moore. Oh. Oh, my le Oh, sorry. Sorry, Kelly. I did not uh I I should have been calling you your majesty this entire time. Yeah, there you go. I’m simply a guest here. He’s King Moore. What’s uh what’s what’s up, George? Um I have a few thoughts. Number one, we should be doing Jets at noon for two hours, not one, because there’s just not enough time in one hour to do it. And you should add Kelly Moore with you and Jim to make it a three three amigo show. The other thing is, um, I would do that show for free, George, but go ahead. If Nick Eers were to be put onto the top line uh before he had left Winnipeg where he wanted to play with instead of Gab Valardi being there and Valardi going down to the second line, do you think Eers would have made a better decision to stay with Winnipeg instead of moving to Carolina knowing that he wants to play topline men? I I don’t think it would be a I don’t think it’s a better decision. Like I I I think Nick Eers made the decision that he felt was best for himself and as a UFA that was the decision that he made and you know the players he earned the right to make that call. Yeah, it was a time time for a change and I don’t know that you know maybe Nikolai Aers is also showing some loyalty to Winnipeg if he doesn’t give us the whole story on that. But I guess the the thing I’d come back at you on that with George is how well that number one line played for Winnipeg. who you know I if it’s if it’s a team game and it’s all about team success why would you have broken up that line to accommodate the wishes of one player? Uh, I don’t know. Like if if you look at the top lines and some of the other teams, they always have two top players with one that usually scores the most goals. And Eers, when he played on that top line was always around the net and it seems like he was always passing, you know, sort of like uh Cole Perfetti where he would just pass to to the players that know how to score the goals. But Eers, I think if he was on a top line, uh, we might have scored more points in the playoffs maybe. And I mean, look how many points he had in his playoffs, right? I guess we’ll find out in Carolina whether you know that comes into play or not, George. Yeah. My third thought is the World Juniors. Has anybody found out any Jets prospects that are going to be on the World Juniors this year? Well, we’re going to have to we’re going to have to wait. We’ll have to wait and find out. Well, yeah. For for team Canada, I would suspect not, but uh I’ll be shocked if Sasha Bouadian does not play for team Sweden. Okay. What about Kevin He? Uh Kevin He? Yeah, he possibly uh you know he he’d have to have a really really strong start to the year. I I I just don’t know if he’s uh on the radar that you know some of these other prospects are. They’ll there’ll be a number of guys that uh uh you know certainly led by Gavin McKenna and Porter Martone that uh will be coming back for for the coming tournament. Thanks a lot, George. Gentlemen, go Bombers. Go have a good bombers. All right. Thanks, George. Let’s go to Colin. Hey, Colin. Hi there guys. Hey, what’s up? Just quick just a couple of comments. Um I listened to a couple of the previous callers uh sort of ragging on Chevy. I don’t know how he doesn’t win GM of the year. Thought he was a finalist. Oh, I Well, yeah, he should have won it. I mean, Jim Nil winning it in Dallas is a joke if you ask me. I have to disagree with you there. I’m sorry, but uh I cannot I cannot stay silent on that one. Jim Nil is did an outstanding job with the Dallas Stars. Well, sure he did, but he’s also got a tax-free state with the warmer climates, the the handicaps that Chevy has dealt with year-over-year. Um, I don’t think you could compare the two jobs. Okay. I from that context, yes, but I’m not going to agree that Jim nil winning is a joke. That’s all I was the point I was making. Oh, fair enough. But I think that the issue is is that they discount anything that Chevy does with all the impediments he faces and the guy that has a tax sign. You know, the fact that that they were even in on Rantin just shows you how laughable it is. Yeah. And I think what you were referring to with Colin was again people saying like, oh, you know, why didn’t they get rid of Nick Eers? They lost him for nothing. And all that kind of stuff. It just I it’s again we we we hear a lot of this stuff and there’s just a lot of context missing because on on face value like oh yeah of course hindsight you should have traded him. Go back to the go back to 2024. Florida won the Stanley Cup by keeping rental free agent Sam Reinhardt uh Oliver Ecman Larson and Brandon Montour. Now they did resign Reinhardt but Ecman Larson walked to Toronto and Montour walked to Seattle. Yeah, you know, no, they absolutely had to play the odds. And if they had traded Eers before the deadline, everyone would have been up in arms if they had lost. Well, imagine what that does to the room. Yeah. Oh, yeah. By the way, we traded we traded Nicola. We have a chance at a Stanley Cup and we’re trading Nikolai for picks and prospects because maybe he won’t resign with us. So, I Oh my god. Yeah, that’s a great point. I will say last comment guys is I do think Kyle Connor is an is an entirely different animal. We’re talking about dealers trying to peck at the second line. You know Kyle Connor’s I mean you go all in on him if I’m Chevy but I’ll leave that to you guys to have a great weekend. I I’ll be interested when and again I I’m of the opinion and I don’t think Kyle Connor is going anywhere but you have you have a guy that scored 41 goals last year. He is your number one winger. you’re going to pair him with your number one uh center. There’s no question about that. And when you have a guy like Gabriel Valardi who’s willing to go into the dirty areas, he’s going to go in front of the night. What’s that line? You’re just I I’m just I’m sorry I’m not making any changes there. Thanks a lot, Colin. I appreciate you’re sugar coating, Kevin. Yeah, I’m sugar coating. Colin, uh hey, do you want to do you want yourself win yourself a VIP car? You know what? I’ll give you the car wash. All right. All right. Thanks a lot for the call, Colin. Uh 2047806868. Colin, he’s got himself a VIP car wash. Did you remember to put him on hold or did you hang up on He’s on hold. Hey, he’s right now talking to our very good friend Jeffrey Forel’s on the line with him telling me, you know what, Colin, you’re so right. And those two knuckleheads, they’re just off the I want to get to some text messages here, but we got two more callers here. Let’s squeeze in Kurt. Hey, Kurt. Hey guys. Uh just uh wanted to comment about the offside stuff. Uh yeah, go ahead. The 30 sec the 30 second rule is is perfect, but I would add one more thing. I would say if you lose the challenge that it’s a penalty shot and and you can any player on the bench can take the shot and that would solve a lot of those uh iffy ones. Okay, that’s I you know the I like your idea, but there is no way ever uh that the National Hockey League board of governors and I even strongly suspect the players association wouldn’t feel comfortable uh with that type of arrangement and they have to approve every rule change. Oh no, I agree. But it’s just like it would solve all the problems. Yeah, if you had a fan vote now that’s totally different story. Well, how many penalty shots were there actually taken last year? Oh, I you know, I had I’m going to I’m going to I’m going to pull that up here. Yeah, I have the number last year. Uh but I I don’t recollect. I I do know that I think uh about a third of the penalty shots resulted in goals, though. Number serves me correct. Yeah. Yeah. Uh anything else, Kurt? No, that’s awesome. Thanks, guys. All right. Thanks for the call. And let’s just get James on the line. Hey, James. What’s going on? Hey, how are you doing today? Good. How what’s up? Awesome. I’m just calling not to rehash the Eelers thing, but just wanted to kind of get my two cents in. Um, go ahead. Eers, when he’s uh when he’s playing, uh, do you think he prefers to play more of a rush game or a cycle game? Well, more of a rush game for sure. Definitely. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He he he is a one-man uh breakout machine. There is no doubt about that. And when we talk about Mark Shley, does he prefer to play a rush game or a cycle game? Cycle game. my opinion he’s one of the best clearly one of the best players in the league at doing that. So when we sit back and we look that uh at at the way Elers’s played with Shley, clearly they played well together. Clearly they played a rush game uh at times with Wheeler back a few years ago with a best team, best line in the NHL. But that being said, is that really Shley’s strong point to be playing that rush game? And I’d say no. And the reason why Elus was consistently finding his way onto the second line was simply because uh Shley wanted to play that cycle game that he excels at that he’s one of the best at the league bat and if he makes the uh the uh team Canada it’ll based on on how strong he is at playing that game. And so the two really had nothing in common from that perspective. And when you’ve got other players like Connor that excels at that as well and Valardi that plays those deep areas that you were just talking about, I think it was just natural over the course of Eer’s time in Winnipeg to be on that second line playing with Patrick Lane, playing with Ryan Little. All right. Kurt, James, I mean analysis. I don’t know what else to add. Yeah. Yeah. I don’t know why that’s a strong contender uh for the the call of freeforall Friday. Yeah, it’s too bad ones. Yeah, I gave away the car wash already, James. I would have given it to you. Doing the best for last. I’ll see you again in the week. Okay. Well, calls tactics. You know what? Throw a coach’s challenge right now. Get Cam to review his decision. James, we’re gonna have to get you in here. We’re changing the rules here. You’re going in for a penalty shot. All right. All right. Thanks a lot. All right. 20478 Thanks. 2047806868. 2047806868. Uh Jerry Texas showing says uh why doesn’t the NHL put its best teams in the national spotlight in reference to the Winnipeg Jets not being a part of any of the uh US national television games. Uh the NFL makes sure top matchups get prime time. Feels like the NHL is missing a big chance to showcase its strongest club. That one from Jerry as if the Well, and and again that’s a network decision. That’s not a National Hockey League. And I have to think TNT and ESPN and ABC like these guys crunch the numbers. They’re they’re they’re not just picking willy-nilly and saying, “Oh, these are the best teams. We’re going to showcase them as much.” They they’ve done the they’ve done the due diligence to realize which teams would do the best. Yeah, they’re making a major investment here. So, they’re certainly not going with the idea, yeah, we’ll put on a couple of teams from Podunk or Pod Dunksville, rather, and just lose a bunch of money on the broadcast. Let’s squeeze one more in here. This one from Tom. Tom says, “If Taves ends up playing most of the season, he is the front runner in my mind to the Masterton uh Bill Masterton trophy.” Everybody, he says, “Everybody would eat that story line up. Hey Cam Hungarian Paul here trying to win that gift certificate to Boston Pizza. Please call me back. Go Jets. Go blue. There you go. Hungarian Paul, congratulations. You’re our uh you’re our winner of the Boston Pizza Jets and Hotline $50 gift card to Boston. Did you call him back? I did. No, me and Paul actually had a very nice uh very nice conversation. No. So, I always that’s one of my favorite parts of the week, Kelly, is calling the the winner back and having a little chat. Uh great to great to talk to some of the listeners. Uh let’s wrap up the show with this take here, Kelly. This one comes in from an unnamed texter who says, “Hot take. Connor is holding out for a letter or he walks.” Well, everybody is is entitled to their opinion. I will say this though, uh I have had the great privilege of uh having a professional relationship with Kyle Connor for about the last I don’t know seven to eight years, whatever it’s been, you know, covering the dressing room when he’s been in there. And there is no indication whatsoever from his demeanor, from how he has carried himself and what he has shared with us that that would be anything at all on his mindset. He is probably one of the most unselfish high-profile athletes I’ve had the pleasure of covering in my career. And uh so he’s comfortable as a leader without a letter. And the other part of part part of that too is if you if you were the team, you are not going to take letters away from Adam Lowry, Mark Schaefley, or from Josh Morrisy. Yeah, you just aren’t. No. No. And uh yeah, that’s I I just again I do not know Kyle Connor. I I do not know Kyle Connor personally, but just understanding who he is a little bit as much as I do, I don’t think a letter matters to that guy. Yeah, he he’s like this. He’s a modern day version of the Sydian brothers. If you give him one, he’d say, “Okay, I’ll take it.” But is he going to be in there, you know, pounding his fist on the table saying, “I need that to be a part of this team moving forward.” No way. High-profile, lowmaintenance. That’s the best way I can describe Kyle Connor. Kelly Moore is going to take you all the way until 2:00. Thank you for much to everybody for participating in a wonderful, awesome free-for-all Friday. Tons of calls. Really love that. Thank you much Jeffrey Forte for producing the show. That’s it for me. I’ll be back same time on Tuesday. Great Labor Day to everybody.
It’s Free-For-All Friday!
Cam and Kelly (in for Jim Toth) are opening up the phone lines and reading your texts to dive into the topics that matter most to you.
Plenty of fans are still frustrated about losing Nikolaj Ehlers for “nothing,” wondering why the Winnipeg Jets won’t have a single game on U.S. TV next season, and already making the case that Jonathan Toews is the early frontrunner for the Bill Masterton Trophy.
What else is on today’s episode? You’ll have to tune in to find out!
All that and more on this edition of Jets at Noon!

It’s easy to criticize the decision to keep Ehlers now because we know they didn’t win but if they had…
Mitch Marner was not traded for high value when the Leafs had a chance but failed to act. The Leafs had to settle for a 4th line center after they dealt Marner in an 8 year sign and trade contract.
