Rashan Gary believes ‘the sky’s the limit’ for Packers’ defensive front

How did you find out that the trade was was happening on Thursday? What were you doing? Shoot. Uh just finished uh where we had a scrimmage like practice. Just finish the scrimmage like practice. Um was going home studying film. Got a call from KC. He let me know the news. Uh it was bittersweet, you know. Went up to his house, made sure he was straight mentally. Wish him the best of his luck. But uh that’s how I end up finding out. So you found out from Kenny. Were you shocked? Was there a disbelief? What goes through your mind in that moment? Uh kind of crazy. uh lost for words at the moment. Um trying to process everything, but uh lost a friend, but like I said, it’s bittersweet. Sorry if Ryan asked you this, but do you know Micah? Have you been around with him previously at all anywhere? Oh, yeah. We’ve been around each other, work out a couple times in the offseason, but uh you know, we know each other, but about to get close. Where where did you work out with him? Dallas. Where do you think he can you know, what kind of impact do you think he can make on this team? you know, the accolades and everything, but I mean, that’s a star-studded player getting inserted into an already pretty good defense. Yeah. Uh, shoot, his, uh, play speak for itself. His name speaks for itself. Um, I feel like the sky’s is the limit for him. The sky’s is the limit for our defensive line group. And, um, just wait. Can’t can’t wait to see him go. How much less do you think you’ll be chipped, double teamed? You said what? How much less do you think you’ll be chipped, double teamed, whatever? Protection slid your way. I don’t know. I guess we going to see on the seventh, huh? What’s your excitement level for week one? Oh, yeah. Excited, man. Excited, man. All the hard work, um, all the long days in the offseason, man, it starts to pay off now because everything count. I know you said it’s bittersweet, but like adding a player like that and the commitment from, you know, the front office and it does that do anything for a locker room as you enter week one? What you mean? Like as in like, hey, they believe in us that we already have a good team. We’re going to add a big time player and, you know, maybe that could, you know, push us over the edge. uh you know the mindset uh period to go one and0 um and just you know adding a player you know that altitude uh for sure going to help the team and uh and basically just our camaraderie. When did you start to turn you say that full attention to the Lions and was there at all a sense of urgency or you know added boost knowing that you were going to open up with the rival? Oh yeah. Uh I really can’t tell you when but uh been watching the Lions for a while um couple weeks back. So we really just been uh you know going off of tape from last year. um you know little nuances that we seen preseason this uh this uh preseason that happened but uh that’s really it man but the line’s been on our mind for sure. Do you guys have a better taste in your mouth after getting swept by them last year or do you guys not think about that at all? Uh last year’s last year um you know of course we understand you know the feelings that we had and uh we get to write it write it differently this uh uh seventh. Is there a heightened sense of awareness and urgency for week one when you are starting against them, but you know that they are the team that you hunting from last year? Uh just a just an understanding you got another NFC opponent. Um you know love to start off the year the right way. Um other than that man just another game got to go one and0 with Micah the addition. Is this the best defense in the NFL? It’s scary. It’s it’s for sure scary with the pieces that we have the guys that we have. uh especially like our mindsets that we all have especially talking to them today of you know we’re kind of similar uh person in terms of mindset. So uh it’s going to be scary for some teams for sure. Why would this team is it so important to get after quarterback? They’ve had your number of late but the one Thanksgiving you got him. You had three sacks yourself. Uh what’s your question against the Lions? How important is it to get after the quarterback? And is there anything about this team specifically that getting him off his spot versus a mobile quarterback is just more Yeah. Uh, first off, man, Jared Golf is a great quarterback. Um, if you let him pat the ball away, make it seven on seven, he going to make it a long 60 minutes for us. So, you know, a part of the game plan, especially going this week, is uh just trying to get him off his uh spot and uh just make it uncomfortable for him to play quarterback cuz whenever he has time, he’ll make you pay. What have you seen from the uh DTackles in camp now that the loss of Kenny, you know, what guys are you going to be keeping an eye out on to step up and produce? Yeah, uh man, a lot of guys been stepping up. uh Kobe, KB, um you know, we got Stack, we got Dub, um you know, a couple young guys that got to pick up, but just their confidence, man, from joint practices, that’s really really seen uh you know, them take over from uh communicating, um playing the run, uh switch positions on spot, understanding the run strengths of the offenses, things like that. Uh so, you know, just having those type of plays and seeing them guys have the confidence, giving me more confidence in them. I know, you know what? I know that you’ve been here long enough to know that when you’re in this league and you you have strong relationships with your teammates, you got about five minutes to get used to something new, right? For sure. I mean, is that the way you’re kind of processing this? Like, I’ve been through this before. This is huge. This is a big change, but you got to do that in this league to survive, right? Yeah. Uh, you know, you just got to understand the bins of the league. Um, you know, and then just like I said, adding a player like that, you know, it makes things a lot easier, you know, other guys around the team. uh makes us more dangerous, you know, all the way around. So, like I said, it’s bittersweet, you know, losing a leader, you know, we still got great leadership here. Um Dallas’s got a great, you know, player in the leader there and we got one hell of a player. So, hell of a player for a hell of a player and like I said, just looking at a couple reps that one had today, it’s going to be real crazy and scary for teams. What was the energy like at practice today? Just just bringing a three time allpro in six days before the season starts. Uh any practice, uh I want to say it’s normal. I want to say it’s normal. Six days of the game, everybody’s hungry. everybody’s focused and um everybody, you know, can’t wait to see what he’s going to do. I know he’s excited with the opportunity that he has ahead of him, but uh man, just everybody’s excited, ready for week one.

  1. D.Wyatt besides this game on every pass rushing down. He should have 12 sacks this year being healthy We have to see if the guys beside can stop the run and quay in the intermediate

  2. If Gary and LVN ever got a 10 + sack season maybe they wouldn't have to go bring another guy in. A lot of potential talk year after year. Hope bringing in someone to push the QB Time to Throw numbers are sad against any premier team.

  3. Parson Gary Van Ness Wyatt brooks and a few more cooper quay got some sizes hopper McKinney hobbs javon Evans there's elite physical game wreckers and play makers all over this defense can't wait !! Parsons what a big-time move for youngster
