A’s vs. Cardinals Game Highlights (9/1/25) | MLB Highlights
Welcome to Cardinal baseball. It’s September 1st. It’s Labor Day and the Cardinals are hosting for the first time this season. The athletics as a pretty good team at this point considering where they started. They have a record now 63 and 75. So Sonny Gray and the Cardinals take the field. Sonny Gray, the starter for the Cardinals. He’s been so good here at home looking brad for his 13th win as he faces his former team. The A Today Butler 231 with 18 homers and 53 runs batted in. He’s on a four game hitting streak. Here’s the 32 pitch from the right hander that misses outside with the curveball. He loses Butler lead off walk and Then bring up Jacob Wilson pitch swung on. That’s hit into right field for a base, hit into second base goes, Butler getting into it quickly as walker and just like on cue hits the base hit to right its 1st and 2nd. Nobody out here’s Rooker Rooker 2 71 27 homers and 79 driven in , popped to center and church coming on, broke back in makes the catch. He travels a long way full extension to make that even threw out the dee initially to hold the runner but still able to get him that good closing speed on that ball. Four loads him up two walks in the inning for Sonny Gray. He’s going to throw at least 20 pitches and Kobe Thomas is next. He’s the ace left fielder swaying fly ball, center church going back. He’s got room and wiggles off the hook, one pitch, one fly ball to the center fielder. And that takes care of the athletics. And the man on the mound for the athletics this afternoon, Luis Morales fifth start for the right hander and chris, we have seen him just get better and better. It feels like each and every time he has taken the baseball when you ask, well, what kind of stuff does Luis morales have the kind of stuff that can get you through seven sparkling innings essentially on two pitches, three balls and two strikes, swing and a miss as Nolan Gorman slams down his helmet to discuss no runs, one hit a man left. We’re through an inning A’s and Cardinals no score. So he’s got back to back strikeouts. Sonny Gray, locating the heater this time. 95 got a little extra for glo nice sink piece on the back side. Athletics go 123 in the top of the second. That’s five in a row retired by , he struck out two so two outs in the second and that will bring up Pedro, the catch two to swung through and missed really for morales has been outstanding. Three strikeouts for him. Darrell, her walked his last time up, had a very patient at bat. Excuse me, checks went roll at third is Gorman bare hand throws to first. No chance infield single for her. Here’s struck out looking in the second innings drives one to deep. Right walker going back at the wall and THS away for J JB. JJ is the 11th of the year and the A’s strike first with a pair in the fourth. Just a great swing from J JB baby. Now it’s Gello as the 01 to zack Goff from Sony Gray now gel off to deep right walker back at the wall, back to back Gello shot to right center and when Zack is right, he goes the opposite way frequently and he does it for his second home run of the season. Three to nothing green and gold Cardinals trail it three and in the home fourth, it will be herrera Contreras and Nolan Gorman. It’s nine up nine down for Luis Morales and that one Hammer down the line there. That’s how he answered a long homer for. Well, you want to talk about being ready early, Herrera with a long blast. 418 ft shot into Big Mac land the 12th of the season first pitch fastball 96 miles an hour. He gets out of here a lot quicker than that. You go top of the sixth inning, are leading it by a score of 3 to 1 breaking ball and that’s hit underneath Nolan Gorman’s glove and the left and off the wall, her scorches one and pulls into second base with the leadoff double. So he has a two hit performance here on Labor Day. Colby Thomas has a pair of flyouts to center ground ball through into center for a base hit her streaking around third. He will come home to score. It’s cut off by Contreras and diving into second is Thomas but he dove off the bag and he’s out at second base. So an RB I single, Thomas is retired and it’s 4 to 1. Here is a drive to right two homer game for 5 to 1. JJ has broke out the whooping stick. Now, the second career two homer game for JJ blat here in the big leagues homered earlier in this game as well sprayed into left center. A base hit takes a turn around first and will settle for a long single, four straight hits for the green and gold. There’s Butler Lawrence is over to his walk bounced out and reached on an air by the second baseman. Runner goes helmet flying throw to second and over slide. He stole the base gello did but his foot did not hang on the bag. So the Cardinals fortunately get two outs and that will do it in the sixth inning. Luis More out for the sixth. He has a four run lead to work with. Now, third time through the order, Lars New up on the ground smashed past Soderstrom. New has got two of the Cardinals hits. He’s got half of the four we’ve tallied today and he made a mistake there. A walk to herrera. That is his first of those in the game. And now the Cardinals have something cooking here two on and nobody out and he’ll get it swing and a miss off the sweeper. That’s out. Number 18 strikeouts for luis Morales. This one a little further down than the one previous so 16. If you’re scoring at home, here’s Mason two on two out and a base hit Mason singles up the middle that brings home new Bar and brings the Cardinals closer. It’s a five to score delivers again with runners in scoring position and it’s now 5 to 2. Luis morales packing mark has made the call to the bullpen. It’s going to be Justin Sterner in the ball game for the athletics. Morales will leave two on two outs here in the bottom of the sixth, jammed him and popped him up. Goff is at second, he’ll drift back. He makes the catch in fair territory down the line, the inning is over and the A’s have him on the corners with nobody out in the seventh. Great situational hitting for Jacob wilson. We’ve seen that many times this year. Here is Rooker. Rooker is zero for three out struck out and flied out again. Right handed hitter, fly ball to deep right center field. Walker on the run. He’s still going one hop over the wall. Butler will come home to score an automatic double for Rooker. It’s a 6 to 2 game now. So that’s the end of the day for Sonny Gray and ryan Fernandez will come on and try to stop the bleeding as best he can. Soderstrom is zero for three with a strikeout and two groundouts. Soderstrom line drive base hit to center Wilson scores. Rooker held up at third and now lead for the Soderstrom 79 RB I and first hit of the game gives the a, a five run lead to get handle it as the day is aboard up Thomas. So get off in automatic double 2nd and 3rd. Nobody out here is Willie macgyver. The infield comes in. Mcivor a bouncing ball ranging over win, have one play to first as slides home and scores the eighth run for the athletics an RB I ground out for his eighth RB I of the season. Turn it back over to the top of the order and Butler 10 pitch line drive to right that will drop down for a hit off, comes around to score. Butler will settle for a long single and his first hit of the afternoon results in his 54th RB. I Wilson’s got another. Butler takes a turn for third. He’ll get there, Jacob into second. A double for Jacob Wilson his third hit of the game and the A’s keep the line moving. Soderstrom will come up in 2024 line drive the other way. A base hit in the left center field alley. Butler scores trotting around third is Wilson. The throw to second is a good one but Soderstrom dives in safely with a two RB. I double bottom of the ninth. The A’s up 911 to 2. The score, it’s mcguff again. JC has gone down twice swinging. He’s also popped out to no to third and that gets under the glove of her JC hustling to second wilson slides and tosses but late and so JC has a double under the third baseman’s glove , at least that’s how scored he’s on to start the night. Jose Fermin grabs a bat, he’ll pinch hit in the ninth inning. One ball, two strikes hammered to left. That’s going to get down for a base hit that will score. So JC remains good season to the plate continues. Cardinals get one of them back. It’s 11 to 3. You still got to love that. You just don’t stop just because the game it may seem to be out of. But you know, this is what you do for a living and Garrett Hampson represents the final out for the Cardinals payoff pitch popped up. They should do it right side of the infield. It’s Soderstrom and he’s got it. The A’s win game one of this series 11 to 3. It was an offensive outburst to say the least they start off the road trip. Hot and hand ST Louis their 71st loss of the season.

Wow I’m early
Now that's more like it 💚💛
athletic league
Cardinals stink. Saggese was a liability in the field. The bats couldn’t do anything today. A’s starters and bullpen dominated us. Fernandez and Roycroft weren’t terrible, but Sonny Gray got banged and wouldn’t make an adjustment. Mcgreevy is the only good starter, Liberatore is good sometimes. Gray, Mikolas, and Palante are terrible. Send Saggese down, Fermin should start at second. We better win the next two vs the A’s
Sell the team!!! To the people of Oakland.
Yay!🎉I wish the A's could win every game Jenny Cavnar doesn't call! (except the last series of course). Rangersforever❤
The Cardinals bats are fine! It's that no-account rotation that keeps dishing-up "batting-practice" to every bottom-dwelling team in Baseball!
Cards are pathetic. Fire Marmol.
Walker is a terrible outfielder !
A's taking there frustrations out after a tough weekend. Very well done
The amount of losses to bad teams this year is wild, take those out and they’d have a stellar record.
1930 MLB World Series rematch
1931 MLB World Series rematch
Didn't know until a couple of days ago that there is a 4th Generation Caray as the A's announcer. I think Chris Caray is very good, he is the perfect choice for the A's lead announcer, a young up & comer just like the team itself.
Thank you Lord for giving us ALL the talents and abilities to perform for your Glory. Amen.
