Minnesota Vikings Q&A: NFC North Arms Race? McCarthy Transfer? Greenard Contract?

[Music] What’s going on, Jerome? Beautiful day for some Q&A. Thank you everyone who submitted questions. Let’s fire it up. First one is Traveler. Do you think the reason Grenard hasn’t had his contract freshened up is because they’re looking for Turner to step in and get draft compensation for Grenard? I I don’t think that’s the case. I think what it is is so Gernard came in signed a four-year contract uh where Andrew Benko came in signed a two-year contract. So he’s in a contract year. One of the reasons why they freshen him up because he greatly outperformed it. And I I think as Grenard probably after this season, you know, the Vikings would look to make his contract, right? Because he’s making an average of 19 million per and you see Michael Parsons is making 47 now. uh J TJ as well as u as well as Miles Garrett both north of 40 as well. So Grard like he understands it like and you know the game is the game is the game and I feel like Gernard coming out and just having a balls to the wall amazing season 2025 defensive player of the year he’ll get taken care of right it’s not going to be a spot where oh you signed the contract so you honor the contract blah blah blah Vikings culture is not about that so I I think Gernard completely knows that and understands it like the business is the business so he’ll get taken care of and I think that’s a reason why it’s more I I feel like Grenard’s approaching this I’m going to prove to you why I’m worth the money as opposed to pay me f you pay me sort sort of deal hopefully that’s the case right and also Diamond Dallas turn just rising up and being fantastic that that’s a bonus next OG Jerome skull to you Andy uh I see snippets of Tom Brady talk about football and you could tell his whole life revolves around football his one true love in his life it wasn’t a Brazilian uh if he had the chance to join an average college football team today, let’s say Baylor, do you think he would have had the ability to get them to nag contention uh and first need to join? So, so we’re saying if Brady was like 18year-old kid from Northern California today as as a recruit, not as like a GM, coach, owner, whatever. Also, can I get a shout out to Al Texas State for blowing the brakes off of Max Crosby Eastern Michigan Eagles? Go Bobcats. Thanks for all you do, brother. Hey, thank you. OG Jerome. Um, was that the first Jerome’s meetup? There’s only been two. We should probably do more. But I I feel like it’s a scarcity principle. If we we only bring it back periodically like to make a rib, people will be excited about it. Yeah. But Texas State getting things done. That’s in Austin, right? I want to say Yeah. Uh, but Easter Easter Mass Crosby from Texas, by the way. Yeah. Awesome. Anyways, um, so I’m gonna bring this back to JJ McCarthy as well. Sir, first off, I feel like Brady would have thrived wherever he went, right? He went to Michigan. He was six, seventh on the depth chart and then eventually worked his way up. Had to battle Drew Henson, all that stuff. Could have transferred back to Cal and become the starter right away, but he didn’t, right? And that’s what makes Tom Brady Tom Brady. Now, McCarthy McCarthy is a different situation because he grew up an Ohio State fan growing up in in Chicagoland in the BBS and then Ryan Day was like, “No, no, no. We have Kyle McCord.” And then he’s like, “F you.” And then then he transferred to Michigan. Ohio State’s hater rival and the rest is history, right? But you know with McCarthy obviously all he does is win-win win no matter what. Had you know 23-1 record as a starter in college and the fact that McCarthy could have transferred somewhere else like he could have transferred to Oregon. He could have transferred to Tennessee. He could have transferred to Washington even and he could have put put up insane video game numbers and helped you know helped his draft stock. But he stuck in Michigan and that’s exactly what what he did. And same thing with Tom Brady. Like Brady could have uh transferred somewhere else, put up a ton of Lulu numbers and helped his draft stock, but instead he battled Hansen Hansen every single day and as well as uh you know beat Alabama in the Orange Bowl in his final uh college game. That was a big deal. And JJ McCarthy beat Alabama in the Rose Bowl, his second to last game that won a national title. But he didn’t throw the ball very often. Didn’t need to. He he does whatever the team needs as well as there’s so many other intangible stuff that the quarterback does that McCarthy has in space. You know, same thing with uh to Tom Brady. But Jay McCarthy go transfer to Tennessee and threw for 5,000 yards. That’s what happens. Next, Arfrey. Uh did the Vikings continue improvement this offseason help motivate the Grecip Packers to make the big Parsons move? They were at risk of falling behind in a tough division. Yes, I think that’s 100% the case where you look at the Vikings, you know, last two off season just going hard in the paint uh for a future franchise quarterback as well as future Talson on the edge, revamping that interior offensive line. You last year quite possibly the greatest free for agent class in NFL history with uh Cashman and ABG, Gernard, etc. I I I feel like this did turn into an arms race. Plus, I feel like the Packers made this trade because the the Bears were also sniffing around and it’s just like, okay, we’ll just make sure the Bears don’t have their guy and Lions are fading, so whatever. But yes, I feel like there certainly is an element of an arms race uh here in the NFC North and it’s going to be a lot of fun. Next, Imposter B. Besides injuries, what would derail the season? I don’t know. Like, if US Bank Stadium imploded, I guess probably not. Could be the case. They’ll probably play at T TCF again, right? And you the Wolves paid to put those heat coils in underneath the field. So those probably still work, right? I don’t know. I guess we’ll see. But you know, injuries are is the number one factor for a season being derailed for any team around the league. So whether it’s injuries, whether it’s suspensions, whether it’s arrest, whether it’s players being taken off the field, whether it’s in-house drama, uh locker room schisms is also another big one. ego is getting involved, but I feel like the Vikings won’t have that. I I feel like the culture is strong enough that it can withstand a little little bit of trepidation, a little bit of drama in there, right? Uh so other than that, nah. Uh lastly, Clinton Rising OG Jerome, can you predict the the most likely flex to prime time game or drop from prime time? Andy, I know this is one of the funnest challenges of the season for you. Um so early on there isn’t a lot of flexing. Uh I was it week six you can start flexing games something like that. Uh but I could see the co Vikings Cowboys being unflexed from Sunday Night Football especially later in the season. I could see the Vikings and commies being flexed into Sunday Night Football because the Cowboys I I know they do numbers nationally and and the Vikings be a big time game but the Cowboys if they’re ass Thank you. I I I don’t think it’ll be great. But say say the Vikings and the commies are two of the best teams in the NFC. I mean, that December 7th game starts looking pretty damn good. Uh, either flexing into the late afternoon slot, America’s game of the week, or Sunday Night Football, pretty damn good. Also, of course, Packers, well, probably not Packers because Packers will be out of playoff contention. They’ll they’ll they’ll be seven and nine and just trying to salvage 89 season. The Vikings will rest their starters uh after they beat the Lions on Christmas night. It’s going to be good. It’s going to be good all the way around. There you go. Anyways, that’s it. That’s it. Uh Q&A for this beautiful, wonderful Monday. You guys are the best. You know what to do. Skull production value.

  1. Happy Labor Day.
You see that play from Montana St.?
Center, QB behind center, RB behind QB.
Center snaps the ball in between QBs legs into RB's hands, throws ball over top to receiver, TD!! Insane!!
