Marlins vs. Nationals Game Highlights (9/1/25) | MLB Highlights

Starting pitcher. That guy right there. Andre Alvarez scheduled to make his major league debut in just a few moments. His starting catcher today CJ Stubs, a guy he is so familiar with from AAA. The two of them both making their debuts today. So this Marlins line up against the 632 15. Andrew Alvarez, thanks for taking that away from me there. Alvarez coming off a fantastic six game stretch. You see the whole numbers, but the last six starts have really been indicative of how he’s going to attack today. Last start coming against Jacksonville, who’s Jacksonville. It’s a AAA team for the Marlins. He’s got a good four seamer 9093 little two seam run on it too as well. Ready for baseball on Labor Day here in the nation’s capital. And that’s a called strike, a high slider at 83 miles an hour. Edwards doesn’t like the call back out of the box and immediately takes time out chopper right in front of the plate. Edwards can fly. Stubbs pops out on the run and nicely done there by the catcher in his first big league. Chance. No big deal right there. CJ Stubs bounce out of there, make a great play on a fast runner and the Marlins are already on the home plate umpire , Clay mccullough out of the dugout on the warning track because Edwards was still barking about the previous pitch and it’s in there for a cold strike. Oh, who got tossed? Somebody just got tossed right away. Clayton mccullough just got ejected from the game by Brendan Miller. The home plate umpire that happened five pitches into this contest. What just happened here? Wow. Clayton mccullough might have been barking at Brendan Miller a little bit and Clayton is out, he is as hot as he has been all season long. Carson Vitale is out there. The bench coach for the fish is trying to deescalate but Clayton , I, I mean there was no warning. There was no back and forth from Brennan Miller, the home plate umpire. It was a simple man. You’re gone five pitches into this game. Somebody got tossed very quickly and it wasn’t Clayton mccullough who’s still at the top step of the dugout. So who got ejected from the game? Was it? Xavier Edwards, a fair tapper over to third Brady House will whip it across and the bag held by Chaparro for the second out. Jacob Marcy guy has been in the big leagues for a month and he might win rookie of the month. Get out to left James Wood cruising to it three up, three down for andrew Alvarez to start his major league debut. It in attendance on this special day in DC. All right. Bottom of the first inning. We believe we’ve got to the bottom of whatever transpired in the top of the first Javier. So has at second and Joey Weimer’s gone to right field. Xavier Edwards was the player ejected. Here’s the pitch he didn’t like. And here comes Edwards off the field and you could hear Brendan Miller say he started it, not me. And Blake is starting this one. A ground ball out to second base. Who’s that guy javier? So is out there now, garcia Junior leads off. Garcia hooks one out to right and the first hit for the Nets comes leading off the second. Here’s hits one well at the left center chasing after it. Garcia running looking out to left field. Now he’s going to get waved home by Ricky Gutierrez and Daylan Lyle the third easily with an RB I triple. It’s one nothing Nets and a baby. Here we go day and Lyle with the absolute roaster out to left field. Now, this is one that I was looking at, it looked like Marcy had a beat on it and he ends up stopping giving way to Hill. Remember too that Hill is playing center field. So if he’s calling for the ball , he has privilege over the left and the right fielder here is Andre Chaparro Lyle leads from third. The pitch. A fly ball well, hit right center field chasing back is Weaver. This will be plenty deep enough. Weaver makes the catch. He’ll fire it in toward the infield as Lyle Tags he will score and the nationals lead two to nothing to prove that he can be a guy that can drive it runs. He did exactly that, that will bring in Robert Hassell the third in one out and the 12 coming is one good fastball strike three. Boy, now, Lake baker doesn’t know how many outs are. All right, if you go back to freddie TNO yesterday, he didn’t realize the game was over in the night. He was walking back to the dugout. Jacob Marcy did not know how many outs there were and now Lake B doesn’t know how many outs there are. I got to get it together here in B there. You could see him kind of shaking his head right now. This is a situation where you might have to have a little meeting in the dugout and say, all right guys, what’s going on here? One ball and two strikes the count on Brady House and there’s a swing and a miss strike three in the inning is over. The Nationals get two and two. Derek Hill leads off against left hander andrew Alvarez. Ground ball left side deep in the hole. Abrams has got it and he hops it to first and can’t pick it. Derek Hill is three quarters of the way down the right field line and he might have to come out of this. He’s not feeling good. He just kept going. It’s almost like he couldn’t put the breaks on to get himself back to first or to even stop to maybe take off to second. Here comes the trainer in Clayton. Yeah. I mean, he was grimacing as he continued to run down that first base line he’s running all right. Oh, he pulled up at the last second right before he hit the bag. He had to pull up. Yeah, he’s gonna have to exit this ball game. He’s had a rotten season full of injuries. Well, here is Joey Weimer batting out of the leadoff spot. There you go. First big league strikeout for andrew Alvarez. He loves it. Big breaking ball. Look where it pops top of the zone. Yeah, the batter now was Augustine ramirez. Andres Chaparro will give chase into foul territory and a nice adjustment fighting the sun, fighting the wind and Andrew Alvarez works around the leadoff error behind him. Jacob Mary leads off the top of the fourth inning. There’s another strikeout for Alvarez. It’s one of the hottest hitters in baseball right now. There’s Lopez in there with the breaking ball back to back strikeouts for Alvarez here in the fourth and now three in his last four hitters faced. Now, here’s Connor Norby still without a hit swing and a drive right field. Lyle moving in, he’s there and he makes the catch lines out to right. A 123 innings for andrew Alvarez. Bring up Lyles line drive hit in the air to left field, moving in though on a fly and diving and making the catch is Mesa, nice play. A lot of folks think he might have some gold down the road in the future. He can really go get it in the outfield. That was a under control sliding ground. There’s ball four got to get something going here against andrew Alvarez. Now, Victor Mesa Junior, that one lifted out to left field falling quickly. That is down for a base hit. That’s the first knock against Alvarez in his major league career. Here we go. Give him his applause. That’s what he needs. They’re at the corners with two down. Now there goes the runner at first, the 32 pitch is high. No, it’s foul tip into the a late call by the home plate umpire brandon Miller Weaver was headed down to first. He is stunned. I mean, Miller didn’t react right away. The home plate umpire that he, that he emphatically said it ticked off his bat. And so that is strike three and Weber is out and the inning is over, huge strikeout and a huge break instead of bases loaded the inning over and we were out on strikes high fives and hugs from andrew Alvarez who looks like he’s done after five, scoreless innings allowing just one hit two away here in the bottom of the sixth inning and josh Bell will come up and he flies one in the air to left field pretty deep mass going back and he’s got it nice catch. Victor Mesa Junior made a sliding catch coming in on a ball a couple innings ago and he looked like he’s been playing at Nationals Park for years. Ferrer is on to try to close it down as we go to the top of the ninth Nationals two. Marlins Ferrer who does not often walk batters. Just his 13th walk of the season could not put away Lopez give the Marlins a chance with a tying run at the plate swing and a miss, he struck him out and Ferrer strikes out Norby for the second out 13,008, 35 making, wanted to see Ferrer close it out. Hernandez lines one to left James. What is there waiting for it? What makes the catch the nationals win? Two to nothing. And, and Alvarez is a winner in his major league debut. The eight game losing streak is over and CJ Stubbs has a first big league start game debut, shutout pace.
