What’s Going on with Harrison Smith?

[Music] What’s going on, Jeromes? So, for many years, Harrison Smith, future Hall of Famer, Harrison Smith has patrolled back into the Vikings defense. Also, he’s the man in the box, you know, 22 Harry the Hitman, all that stuff. Absolutely getting it done. The the other first round pick in 2012. We’ll talk about the other guy, but Harrison has been a mainstay of the Vikings defense for years. And even though he’s the last of a generation, you know, just those great defenses with Kendricks and Bar and Rose closed, Lindval, Joseph, Everson, B Rob, etc. Harrison running back for one more season. Absolutely. Time to get him a ring. Time to get Theelen a ring as well and something that’s going just going to be beautiful. But uh he has been missing in practice uh the last couple of weeks and starting to be a little bit concerned. All right, so Kevin Se for ESPN who’s not Carl Gment sources say Harrison Smith who who last practiced August 11th is recovering from a personal health issue as expected to make a full recovery. The Vikings haven’t put him on IR and he was named a 2025 captain will be evaluated uh weekly. Vikings open the season in 11 days uh at the Bears. And you know, follow-up question, you know, people people have questions, right? And they ask, is this a mental health issue? And like there’s no stigma attached to that anymore cuz I feel like that’s certainly gone away. I feel like uh mental health has definitely come to the forefront uh nowadays, which which is good. It’s beautiful. But uh Guestling uh said, “No, it’s not mental health related.” So, by saying it’s not mentally uh mental health related, it it seems like the beat writers sort of know what what’s going on and I’m sure that the details will come out eventually. But, uh situation right now, so hasn’t practiced since August 11th, is expected to make a full recovery, which is fantastic. And also, I I I don’t want to make like an old man joke. It’ be like, “Oh, it’s osteoporosis or it’s arthritis or it’s shingles or gout or something.” and then it’d be something really seriously like then, oh, I’m a jerk. Yeah. Uh, but also we’ll be evaluated weekly. So, that makes you raise an eyebrow just a little bit. Uh, the Vikings did sign two safeties to the practice squad, but that could mean nothing, right? Because, uh, you’re filling out your practice squad. Uh, Khalif Alassie definitely earned a spot and then they just signed Cavon Wallace yesterday. So, maybe it means something, maybe not. Maybe maybe it’s just business as usual, right? Uh and also like we said was not named on injur uh was not placed on injured reserve either season ending or short-term designated for return uh injured reserve. The Vikings put fullback CJ Ham and outside linebacker Tyler Baddy uh filling up those two spots. Also, he was named a team captain. Uh but also I mean you know players would have just voted for Harrison anyway not really knowing what the situation is going on. So does that mean something? Does it not? I don’t know. uh and is expected to play week one against the Bears. Now, we will get a formal injury report uh starting next week. You know, the Vikings practice Thursday, Friday, Saturday uh fly on Sunday ahead of their Monday night game on September 8th against the crooked Chicago Bears. So, maybe they’ll the more come to light. Uh maybe Harrison will will speak to the media. But you, you know, whatever is going on with Harrison, you know, just absolute prayers, good vibes, and and all that stuff, and hopefully he’s good to go. Uh, both as a player and a person like he’s Yeah, just get after it, man. Uh, anyways, your thoughts, our thoughts, what’s going on with Harrison Smith? Yeah, let us know comment section. You guys are the best. You know what to do. Skull production value.

The future Hall of Fame, 36-year old safety Harrison Smith hasn’t practiced since August 11th and is reported to have been dealing with a personal health issue.

  1. It may be that the "week to week" evaluation was just noted because of the roster rules, now that the regular season is upon us. I think they're saying that he will be evaluted for each weekly injury report and game availability.

  2. Harrison Smith still has a fully torn thigh muscle he has played through since 2015. If it's at all physically possible, I have zero doubt he will suit up. One of the toughest players in the league for a long time

  3. tbf he obviously had hairtransplant the last 1 or 2 years. there comes a certain medic plan with it. in addition to the substances he obviously is taking for his entire career. he isnt the youngest so now the long terms show up for these medications. get well soon harry

  4. That CB room…really? The team has invested so much in the offensive and defensive lines, but one injury away at CB from disaster. I know they are saving the cap space to counter next year's $50M hole, but something must be coming.

  5. They don’t necessarily need to be so secretive about whatever he has been going through. 100% of Viking fans completely support him. I’m just not really feeling this weird ass attitude that’s been floating around the last six weeks. People saying crazy stuff whether it’s Jets or Christian Darrisaw or van Ginkle. “ oh he doesn’t need to practice.. even if he doesn’t practice until the first game of the season, he’s going to be just fine.” Dude that’s not true at all. Yes, I agree We are talking about some of the best football players in the world right here but this is football not just riding your bike or picking up a pencil after years and writing your name. I completely trust the Vikings organization, and the players, but all these weird people talking about there’s no need for these people to practice is mind blowing. It makes me really question how low has the average IQ went down since Covid. It’s one thing after another but come on. Are you guys serious? We’re talking about key players that are supposed to support a developing quarterback and you guys are talking about they don’t need to practice all in every comment section in these videos that mention any type of injury that we got going on right now.

  6. He’s (nfl safety) old, he know’s he’s old and is taking advantage of whatever rest he can get, and the VIKINGS know this and WANT this. I WANT this. Why take meaningless, unneeded mileage when you don’t have to?
